DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Now to California, where the suspect in the abduction of a 9-year-old California girl is scheduled for arraignment today. Enrique Sosa Alvarez is being charged with kidnapping and sexual assault.
Our national correspondent Charles Feldman is in San Jose with the latest -- Charles, good morning.
CHARLES FELDMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Daryn.
And since we have a little over six hours until that arraignment, I suspect we have a little time to review what's going on here. As you mentioned, later today there is going to be an arraignment on charges ranging from kidnapping to sexual assault of Enrique Alvarez, although he has a number of aliases. Apparently he is also known in the area as David Cruz and maybe some other names. So that mystery is still being sought out.
Of course, this is a case involving the kidnapping on Friday of a 9-year-old San Jose, California girl from her very home and that captivity lasted almost two days. And it's pretty extraordinary how police managed to track down her alleged kidnapper. She, of course, was dropped off at a local store. She remembered that her alleged kidnapper had ordered pizza from a local pizzeria and that helped the police here go to the house where they eventually found the suspect in this case, Enrique Alvarez.
But he was not exactly willing to surrender. And, in fact, they found him hiding upstairs in his house. He was bitten by a police dog, allegedly, I guess we should say, and had to go to the hospital quickly for some treatment before being hauled off to jail.
But now he faces probably the most serious charges of his life thus far, which is, as I said, kidnapping and numerous counts of sexual assault.
We, of course, are not going to mention the name of the 9-year- old girl or show her face now that authorities are saying that she was the victim of a sexual assault.
So at about two o'clock local time, Mr. Alvarez or Mr. Cruz or whatever his name really is will be arraigned on those very serious charges -- Daryn.
KAGAN: Charles Feldman very early in California, in San Jose.
Charles, thank you for that. TO ORDER A VIDEO OF THIS TRANSCRIPT, PLEASE CALL 800-CNN-NEWS OR USE OUR SECURE ONLINE ORDER FORM LOCATED AT www.fdch.com
