BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: One of the big stories from yesterday, a follow-up again today, the Max Factor heir Andrew Luster is being held by authorities in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, run down by a bounty hunter and arrested on Tuesday. Luster on the road for five months, and on the run, convicted in absentia of drugging and raping three women. He faces 124 years behind bars.
And Charles Feldman is in L.A. to talk about the latest there.
Charles, good morning. What do we know?
CHARLES FELDMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, good morning, Bill.
Well, according to officials, it was sort of like a race to the finish line. It turns out that a tourist couple in Mexico notified last week both the FBI and the bounty hunter that they thought they had located Andrew Luster. So both the FBI and the bounty hunter are now racing to get to and capture Andrew Luster.
Well what happens? The bounty hunter, a guy by the name of Duane "Dog" Chapman from Hawaii ends up beating the FBI to the punch, and apprehends Andrew Luster.
But they get into a fight, according to authorities, the FBI has to come along, sort things out, or at least Mexican police have to do that. And so now, everyone's in jail, Andrew Luster is in jail. Duane "Dog" Chapman is in jail, and this story, Bill, is obviously far from over -- Bill.
HEMMER: Charles, when we talk about these rape charges, 124 years behind bars if convicted on this, what happened? What is alleged right now?
FELDMAN: Well, it's alleged that Mr. Luster put some date rape drugs into the drinks of some women in Santa Barbara, California, where he lived. And then not only raped them, but also videotaped that. And they used that videotape at the trial where he was ultimately convicted of raping three women, and as you said, he was sentenced to 124 years. But in reality what that is, of course, it's a life sentence -- Bill.
HEMMER: The pictures from Mexico much different from the ones we're looking at now from several months ago. Thank you, Charles, Charles Feldman in L.A.
FELDMAN: Thank you.
