BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: From Colorado a bit later today, the Kobe Bryant case may go away this afternoon or it may become a full scale criminal trial. A Colorado D.A. expected to announce whether or not the NBA star will be charged with sexual assault.
Brian Cabell live in Eagle, Colorado for more on this -- Brian, good morning there.

BRIAN CABELL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Bill.

It's been a long two weeks, as you well know, for Kobe Bryant, ever since he was arrested, exactly two weeks ago. A long two weeks for his accuser, a long two weeks for the district attorney, who has a number of options before him today.

Number one, he could talk about a number of varying degrees of sexual assault here. He could charge them with any number of those. He could charge them with other counts, possibly unlawful confinement. He could come up with no charges whatsoever, saying that either there was no sexual encounter or that the sex was consensual. Or he could, and this is an outside chance, he could send this to a grand jury because sometimes in cases like this, high profile cases, that's what they do. Again, that is an outside chance.

After that announcement at 3:00 Mountain time, then we expect about an hour later that Bryant's attorney in Los Angeles will have her response. We're not sure whether Bryant himself will show up. If there are charges in this case, we expect Bryant to show up here August 6 to face those charges, and we've been told if, in fact, there are charges and there is a trial, to expect that maybe six to nine months down the road. And that would come during the NBA season.

But, again, all of this is open to conjecture right now, Bill. We don't know yet whether there will be charges and we'll find out at 3:00 Mountain time, 5:00 Eastern time this afternoon.

HEMMER: We await for that.

Thanks, Brian, live in Eagle.
