BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Back now again to one of our top stories this morning. Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy disappeared back in mid-June. Now, his friend and roommate, Carlton Dotson, Jr., has been charged with his murder. Dotson, taken into custody last night near his home in Maryland, is scheduled to appear later today at a bail hearing.
Kathleen Koch live at the courthouse in Chestertown, Maryland, with more there.
Kathleen -- good morning.
KATHLEEN KOCH, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Bill.
Well, Carlton Dotson apparently contacted police here in Chestertown, Maryland, Sunday night, calling 911 and asking police for assistance. Police Chief Walter Coryell (ph) says that officers then took Dotson to the hospital for evaluation, where he spent the night. And while he was there, police say that Dotson asked to speak to the FBI.
Now, at that point, police in Waco, Texas, they say that they issued an arrest warrant for Dotson. Dotson has been in custody since that point in time. He's charged with murder and intended death in the death of 21-year-old Patrick Dennehy, his former roommate who has been missing since mid-June.
"The Dallas Morning News" this morning is reporting that Dotson called a Baylor professor Monday night, a professor who taught both he and Dennehy, and told him -- quote -- "I want you to know that I've turned myself in to the FBI." And the professor said that Dennehy sounded -- excuse me -- that Dotson sounded upset, that he sounded confused. And he went on to say -- quote -- "Have everyone pray for me so that I can have safe passage wherever I go from here."
"The Dallas Morning News" is also reporting that Waco police say that Dotson confessed in that he told police of an area that they might search where Dennehy's body might be found. And, again, according to "The Dallas Morning News," Sergeant Reinhold (ph) said the police were searching that area last night. Now, they won't say anything else today. They are going to be having a press conference later on this afternoon.
And, of course, we'll be here this morning for the 8:45 extradition hearing and possible bail review hearing for Mr. Dotson.
Back to you. HEMMER: An hour and 45 minutes from now. Thanks, Kathleen Koch, in Maryland.
