SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Authorities in New Hampshire believe they are closing in on where two missing children may have been buried. Their father, Manuel Gehring, was extradited to Concord yesterday, and is now charged with their murders. Investigators are releasing some very specific information about the possible burial site.
CNN's Jason Carroll is live for us in Concord this morning.
Jason -- good morning.
JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: And good morning to you, Soledad.
Investigators say they are looking for one burial site, not two. And they're asking for the public's help to try and find it.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
CARROLL (voice-over): Manuel Gehring arrived back in New Hampshire on Tuesday, wearing a striped jail uniform and a bullet- proof vest. He'll face charges he shot and killed his children, Sarah, 14, and Philip, 11.
Investigators released details about where they suspect his children are buried. They retraced Gehring's cross-country trek along Interstate 80, and are focusing their attention on Ohio, Indiana and an area in Joliet, Illinois.
PETER HEED, NEW HAMPSHIRE ATTORNEY GENERAL: And you have in front of you the results of our investigation, which gives us a number of clues as to where these bodies of the children are. But we need the public's help.
CARROLL: Near the gravesite, police say, are several cement cylinders, a six-foot-high wire fence, an old water pump and a large yellow or tan building. Also, they say, the seats to Gehring's minivan are missing. They might be found near the interstate in Nebraska.
CHIEF JEROME MADDEN, CONCORD POLICE DEPARTMENT: Our appeal to you today is based upon an exceptionally strong desire to provide some degree of resolution to the family and friends of Sarah and Philip.
CARROLL: Police say Gehring killed his children, possibly over a custody dispute involved his ex-wife. She is in seclusion.
Flowers are collecting at the children's home left by neighbors, many of whom are unable to believe Gehring is charged with murder.
REV. CHARLES HESLAM, WEST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH: Just total shock for us in terms of that in this family and these people who we knew something of this nature could happen.
CARROLL: Police would not confirm if Gehring has been helping them with their investigation. They're hoping the children's bodies will soon be found, but even without them, police say there is still enough evidence to charge Gehring with their murder.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
Law enforcement officials won't confirm if Gehring can't or won't say exactly where his children are. Gehring will be arraigned on child custody charges this morning and on murder charges either later this week or early next week -- Soledad.
O'BRIEN: Jason Carroll in Concord, New Hampshire -- Jason, thank you.
