SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: The deaths of Saddam Hussein's sons was hailed by U.S. officials as a turning point in Iraq. But it has not yet stopped the bloodshed. As we've been reporting this morning, three more U.S. soldiers were killed when they were attacked in northern Iraq.
CNN's Rym Brahimi has more for us from Baghdad.
Rym, good morning again.
RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning again to you, Soledad.
Well, clearly, there are groups out there that are keen to send the message that they will not be deterred by the deaths of Uday and Qusay Hussein. That incident involving three soldiers that lost their lives in the north. They were in a convoy heading to a town known as Al Gayar (ph) near the city of Mosul, which is, as you know, the city where Qusay and Uday Hussein were killed.
Now the soldiers were apparently fell under small arms fire, and also under fire from rocket-propelled grenades. Three of them died. Some of them may have been wounded. But, clearly this -- clearly, again, this sends a message.
Also, as you know, the soldiers were that were killed were from the 101st Airborne Division, that same division that conducted the raid that killed Saddam Hussein's two sons. Now that's obviously -- there's a series of incidents that's been taking place, attacks against U.S. soldiers on a daily basis. More than 40 U.S. soldiers have been killed, Soledad, since President Bush declared major combat operations over in Iraq -- Soledad.
