BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Back to Iraq right now, another American soldier dead northeast of Baghdad. The U.S. military says the soldier was killed and two others injured in a bomb attack there.
Harris Whitbeck live in Baghdad to talk about this incident and also the latest operation under way in the Sunni Triangle, as well -- Harris, good afternoon there.

HARRIS WHITBECK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Bill.

The soldiers were patrolling a police station near Baquba, which is northeast of Baghdad. They belonged to the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division. And apparently a homemade bomb, what the Army refers to as an improvised explosive device, was launched at them. One soldier was killed and two more were injured.

Now, the 4th I.D. is launching a new operation to try to find those who might be launching these type of attacks against their forces. The operation is called Ivy Lightning. And basically what they're doing is branching out, fanning out from urban areas in northern Iraq and going into the countryside to look for Saddam loyalists or those who might be launching attacks.

The military says that it believes it has flushed some of these people out from cities like Tikrit and Baji (ph), and that's why they need to go out -- they are now going to go after them in the countryside -- Bill.

HEMMER: Harris Whitbeck live in Baghdad, where the situation continues to show a very vulnerable side right now for how this peace is being forged.

Thanks.
