BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: I want to get back to Iraq right now -- a number of stories to cover today. Two more U.S. soldiers were killed earlier today. Their Humvee hit another one of those explosive devices. There has also been another car bombing in Baghdad -- this one only a few hours ago blowing up near an Iraqi police station.
Rym Brahimi, watching all of this, live from the Iraqi capital with more.

Rym -- what do we know now, a few hours later?

RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Bill, well, we've just found out that actually one person died in that bomb blast, and the hospital that received the injured says 18 people were wounded.

Now, the blast occurred in a car park right by a police station. That's not far from the police academy in the central-east of Baghdad.

A major from the police station said that a thick wall was separating the car park, where the bomb went off, and the police building itself. So, he says that that somehow limited the damage that could have been.

That said, a lot of people at the scene said it was a huge explosion. Let's listen in.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): There was a huge explosion, immense fire, smoke and glass flying over us from every direction.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Those close to me fell on me. One fainted because of the intensity of the blast.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BRAHIMI: Now, some people also, who were at the scene, say that four of the cars that were around the car bomb that exploded were also very damaged. And it happened at about -- at a time in the late hours of the morning when many of the former police -- former Iraqi police would have gone to that police station to go and pick up their salaries. Salaries are distributed here on the 1st and 2nd of each month.

And so, a lot of former police officers would have gone there to get their salaries, and also looking for jobs. So, there were quite a few people -- Bill.

HEMMER: Rym Brahimi in Baghdad.
