SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: To Iraq, where there are reports that U.S. troops have mistakenly killed some Iraqi police officers. The incident occurred at the checkpoint near Falluja and Nic Robertson joins us by video phone from Falluja -- Nic, good morning.
NIC ROBERTSON, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Soledad.

Details still sketchy about exactly what happened. According to police, they were chasing a car that had opened fire on that police station. They were proceeding up the main highway outside of Falluja. Then, the details become very sketchy. For some reason, U.S. troops opened fire on them in that area. The Jordanian field hospital, run by the Jordanian military, just right behind me, thought they were receiving fire. They returned fire.

In all of that confusion, we are told, eight Falluja protection force personnel were killed, two seriously wounded. Seven Iraqi police who were out patrolling with that Falluja protection force, seven Iraqi police injured, one of them seriously.

Also, the Jordanian information minister has said one Jordanian officer at the Jordanian field hospital was killed, as well as four Jordanian officers injured.

The situation is still confusing. There are still many details to be learned. But family members we've seen turning up here to claim the bodies of their loved ones killed overnight have been very distraught and very angry towards any Westerners they've seen around here -- Soledad.

O'BRIEN: Nic Robertson updating us on the story.

And, of course, we'll continue to follow that, as well.

Also this morning, CNN has just confirmed more violence against U.S. forces in Iraq. Two U.S. soldiers were reportedly killed in a shootout in Ramadi. Seven other troops were injured. That comes to us according to wire reports. We're going to have more information as it becomes available to us this morning.
