SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: In Iraq now, meanwhile, a U.S. soldier from the 101st Airborne Division was killed today. The soldier died in a small arms attack.
CNN's Jane Arraf is live for us in Baghdad with the very latest on that.

Jane, good morning.

JANE ARRAF, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Soledad.

The U.S. military says that soldier was killed when he was trying to stop looters, apparently, from entering a grain storage warehouse. Now, he was shot dead, according to the military. Mosul is normally quite quiet. That soldier with the 101st Airborne.

But in Fallujah, where we have seen a series of incidents, another one again today. Witnesses say that a roadside bomb, an improvised explosive device, exploded on a bridge near Fallujah about 35 miles west of Baghdad. No reports yet of casualties. There appear to be no fatalities. The military says it's checking into it.

Now, as those attacks appear to be escalating and increasing in recent days, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz has arrived in Baghdad. He's meeting with troops. He's been here several times so far this year. And this visit is aimed at trying to increase the number and deployment of Iraqi police and other Iraqi troops so that those 130,000 U.S. troops can, perhaps, go home a little sooner -- Soledad.

O'BRIEN: All right, Jane Arraf for us this morning. Jane, thanks for that update.
