SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: We begin in Iraq, where a series of deadly explosions have rocked Baghdad. Coalition and Iraqi officials telling CNN right now that at least 31 people have been killed, including at least two U.S. soldiers.
Jane Arraf has the latest for us from Baghdad this morning -- Jane, good morning.

JANE ARRAF, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Soledad.

Well, 12 of those people at least were killed here, outside the International Committee of the Red Cross, when what appeared to be a huge suicide bomb slammed into the street near the barricade.

Now, tragically, this was a truck packed with explosives. The truck was a symbol of the Red Crescent, the Muslim version of the Red Cross. It happened on the first day of Ramadan and the people inside still in shock that what they thought was an apolitical humanitarian organization without even armed guards would be the target of such an attack -- Soledad.

O'BRIEN: Jane Arraf updating us from Baghdad this morning.

Jane, thanks.
