BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Let's get to Nevada right now. A missing person case in that state stumping police. A 3-year-old boy, his name is Andrew, turned up in a parking lot on Monday morning, bleeding from his head, saying that he saw someone kill his mom. His mother, Bertha Anguiano, has not been seen since she dropped off another one of her sons at school that same day. Her car was found nearby. Her husband, Phil Anguiano, and the Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong with us now from Carson City, Nevada, to talk about this.
Gentlemen, good morning to both of you. And thanks for your time.
And, Mr. Anguiano, my sympathies to you at this time. I'm certain this has caused a lot of stress to you. Your son Andrew says that he saw someone kill your wife. What do you make of that statement your son gave?
PHIL ANGUIANO, HUSBAND OF MISSING WOMAN: Well, that's what he said, and that's what we've been going on. He seemed to be all right. His spirits were -- they were in good spirits. So, I have no idea how true that statement could have been. But that's the statement that he gave at the time.
HEMMER: How much detail did he offer?
ANGUIANO: As much as he possibly could. That's all I could recollect from him. He just mentioned that mommy was dead, and that was about it.
HEMMER: Did he also mention seeing three men? Is that accurate? And if so, what did he say about that?
ANGUIANO: That's what he claimed, and that's what he told me when I first talked to him when I was first able to see him. And that's what we've been going on. I really don't know if there was three or there was only one. I have no idea.
HEMMER: Your son was found bleeding from the head with a head wound. How did that happen? Do you have any indication?
ANGUIANO: No, I don't know how it might have happened.
HEMMER: Is he doing OK now, or not?
ANGUIANO: Yes, he is.
HEMMER: That's good news, certainly. To the sheriff, what can you tell us for right now about how your investigation is proceeding?
SHERIFF KEN FURLONG, CARSON CITY, NEVADA: We've used the media quite a bit. The information that we have is that Andrew has said Juan hit him in the head, and that Juan inflicted injuries on his mother. We're proceeding on that premise. We've gone out to the media to attempt to identify this person, the only information we have is it's Juan Carlos, and it's a very common name.
So far, it's been fruitful. We've gotten a lot of tips in from the community, people who believe they might know something, or suspect that they may have information that may assist us.
HEMMER: You said something there, sheriff, the name Carlos. Clear that up again, how did that come up?
FURLONG: It's one of the names that was provided to us, Juan Carlos. But we have done inquiries on that name, and we're just getting an awful lot of near misses, as we would say, or close hits on the name. That name is not a complete name.
HEMMER: Sheriff, I understand also you're looking into at least statements that have been made between the couple. What more can you add on that?
FURLONG: Statements between the couple?
HEMMER: Between Mr. And Mrs. Anguiano, yes.
FURLONG: We've looked at what's been going on in their home life, as well as at business, and the circumstances that led up to Monday morning's event. Everything has indicated to us that as of 8:00 Monday morning there didn't seem to be anything out of the norm, normal occurrences of events. We don't have information that leads her away from the school where she was last seen, or why she may have left.
HEMMER: To Mr. Anguiano and to the sheriff also, many times in these cases, oftentimes, sir, the husband is considered a suspect. Have you been cleared at this point?
ANGUIANO: Do you want to answer that, sheriff?
FURLONG: Mr. Anguiano been cooperating with us fully, and we appreciate that. He is not a suspect at this time. He has been instrumental, as a matter of fact, in providing us with information that we believe right now is assisting the direction of the investigation, as well as the hopeful opportunities down the road.
HEMMER: I wish you the best of luck, OK. And thank you for sharing your story in the state of Nevada, again. The word has gone out now on national TV as well. Hopefully something will spring from it. Phil Anguiano and the Carson City Sheriff Keith Furlong, thanks again.
