SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: The Muslim fasting month of Ramadan is drawing to a close, and it has been a violent time in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq. Three American soldiers died in hostile fire Iraq yesterday, but two deaths in Mosul were particularly disturbing.
Christiane Amanpour is in Baghdad live for us this morning.
Christiane -- good morning.
CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, CNN CHIEF INTERNATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Soledad.
And indeed, the U.S. military is still investigating the precise details surrounding the deaths of those two soldiers in Mosul, which happened yesterday. What happened, that they can tell us now, is that there was gunfire. The two soldiers were driving in a civilian vehicle, apparently from garrison to garrison. There was a traffic accident, and they were killed.
But then, eyewitnesses say that the bodies were dragged from the car and robbed of their personal belongings and their equipment. And there are other reports that say that the bodies may have been shot at close range as well. We're still waiting for official confirmation by the U.S. military on that.
There's been another incident. Reports are coming in, and we're trying to nail this down. But a military spokesman in Mosul is saying that today a soldier was injured as one of these IEDs, these improvised explosive devices, was set off along a road in Mosul -- again, damaging a vehicle and injuring a soldier. Those are the latest details we have from Mosul -- Soledad.
O'BRIEN: All right, Christiane, thank you for that update.
