HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: We are going to get a check on the travel weather this holiday. Chad Myers is standing by at the CNN Center now. And the script says gobble, gobble. I guess we're going to Chad after we go to Maria, who we already know is enjoying some wonderful weather in New York City for this, the Thanksgiving Day Parade. You know it, you probably heard of it, the Macy's Parade. She's joining us now from the start of that parade.
Hey, Maria, things are shaping up quickly.
MARIA HINOJOSA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: You know what? Actually, I can talk about the weather, because you know Heidi, I've been doing this for several years now. The crowds today are pretty extraordinary. And that's because everybody knows that it's so gorgeous outside, that it's one of these chances when you get to see the parade and you're not freezing.
So we've actually -- I'm actually seeing larger crowds than I have seen in the past several years. So it's very, very exciting. Now, of course, a lot of people are talking about these balloons that are coming back from the '30s, '40s and '50s. You're going to have the Marx Brothers, which I just adore. And a lot of people are talking about this. That's why you're seeing so many crowds out here, because in New York this is really something of a tradition. There are people who are watching. They know what balloons have been here in the past. They keep tips on this. The daily news publishes a whole supplement on this. So there are real parade experts.
And it's also about tradition and what this parade means to you at a very particular and special way. And we've got Claudia, Kate and Andy Parasini, who have a very special story to tell us. This was, for your father, a very special event, right?
CLAUDIA PARASINI, PARADE GOER: Absolutely. Get us up every Thanksgiving morning and we had to sit there and watch the parade.
HINOJOSA: And you're all from Buffalo. And your dad passed away a couple of years ago. And you came down this time, why?
C. PARASINI: Just to honor his memory and to be here live so that he could enjoy it through us.
HINOJOSA: And for you, Claudia - Kate, right -- what does it mean for you to finally be here after spending this time with your grandpa and watching this parade on TV?
KATE PARASINI, PARADE GOER: It's living his dream. And he was so special to us. He was larger than life. And he's here with us in spirit.
HINOJOSA: And for you, Andy?
ANDY PARASINI, PARADE GOER: I just love seeing my family be this happy to see this come true.
HINOJOSA: You know, isn't it extraordinary that you can actually be in New York City, surrounded by what's going to be two million people and everybody looks happy?
A. PARASINI: Yes.
C. PARASINI: And then to see the wiggles on top of it, that just capped it off all off.
K. PARASINI: It's a wiggly party.
HINOJOSA: See now, I want to get paid the big bucks for going like this.
But you know, that's what it is, Heidi. It really is a time when New Yorkers kind of shed those grouchy selves. And they just have a chance to be with each other and celebrate, especially after what we've been through in these past couple of years. It's really chance for New Yorkers to look at each other and say wow, we can still take back this public space, we can still be ecstatic, be outdoors.
And yes, there are issues of security, lots of police around. We've been seeing them from very early in the morning. But so far, everything looks like it's going great. And like I said, the weather is fabulous. So we're ecstatic -- Heidi?
COLLINS: All right, it is an excellent day, that's for sure. Spirits very high. Maria Hinojosa, thanks so much for a look at the start of the parade.
