DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN ANCHOR: It'll be a busy day at the nation's malls today. Post-holiday sales promise big savings. And, of course, there are always those gifts you want to return.
Our Adaora Udoji is at a mall on New York's Long Island.
Adaora -- good morning.
What's happening out there?
ADAORA UDOJI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Sanjay.
We can attest that at this Gap, before eight o'clock, people were lining up to get in early on those sales. This would be the Roosevelt Field Mall and that is mall with a capital M because is it the fifth largest mall in the United States, which says a lot, because, of course, we know there are lots of big malls.
There are 260 stores, so it means it's not a place for the feint- hearted shopper. On the other hand, for those die hard shoppers, stores are hoping to pull them in today with big discounts, up to 50 percent. We've seen lots and lots of signs. This is, of course, accounting for, this week after Christmas, for retailers, 15 percent annual sales. As you said, there will be lots of returns today. Fifty percent of Americans just didn't like their gifts. And they'll also be spending a lot of money, because gift certificates this year were up big time. People are still on holiday. They have lots of time to shop and lots of good weather -- Sanjay.
GUPTA: Our Adaora Udoji at the mall.
