SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Turning to Iraq now, there is practically nothing left of a once popular Baghdad restaurant, where Westerners and Iraqis had gathered last night for a New Year's party. A car bomb ripped through the restaurant, killing at least 7 Iraqis, injuring at least 20 others.
Satinder Bindra joins us this morning from Baghdad with more on this.
Good morning.
SATINDER BINDRA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Soledad. A very somber mood here in Baghdad, all through last night and indeed this morning.
This morning, we have more details of this bomb attack right outside a popular Baghdad restaurant. The police chief here in Baghdad describes this as a suicide bomb attack. The suicide bomber, we are told, packed a car with one ton of explosives. It's still not clear whether this was C-4 or TNT, but what we can tell you is the nature and the scope of the blast.
These pictures, Soledad, were shot this morning. They show several buildings surrounding the restaurant were completely flattened; several cars as well. All that's left of them just blackened charred hulks.
Now, as you mentioned, at least 7 people killed here, 20 people injured. Soledad, amongst the injured, three reporters with the "Los Angeles Times." Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, but there is a great deal of anger here in Baghdad about such attacks. Many people are angry with insurgents staging such attacks in crowded downtown areas. Over the past five days, Soledad, three Iraqi children have been killed.
Back to you now.
O'BRIEN: Satinder Bindra for us this morning. Thank you.
