SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Now we turn to Iraq, where a popular Baghdad restaurant frequented by both Westerners and Iraqis is nothing more than rubble this morning. It was blown apart in the midst of a new year's celebration last night, killing at least seven Iraqis.
For more details, we go to the Iraqi capital, where Satinder Bindra is standing by for us -- Satinder, good morning.

SATINDER BINDRA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Soledad.

We have more details and these details being provided by the police chief here in Baghdad. He says it was a suicide bomber last night. The suicide bomber loaded one ton of explosives in a car then he drove this car right next to the restaurant. When he exploded the bomb, several buildings, at least three buildings in the neighborhood were badly damaged. The restaurant was completely smashed. You mentioned seven people dead, most of them Iraqis. Twenty people were injured.

Now, among the injured, Soledad, at least three journalists with the "L.A. Times." Their condition is now OK. Their injuries are not described as life threatening.

Now, this is the fifth bomb that has gone off in downtown Baghdad over the past few days. All these bombs have gone off in crowded neighborhoods and many Iraqis here are very upset. They say this is no insurgency. They're describing what happened last night, Soledad, as plain and pure terrorism -- back to you.

O'BRIEN: Satinder Bindra for us this morning from Baghdad.

Terrible pictures there.

Thank you for that update.
