BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Back to this British Airways flight again. The flights have become the focus of security officials.
CNN's Elaine Quijano live at Dulles International in Washington, D.C. to find out what we are learning today, if much, there -- Elaine, good morning.

ELAINE QUIJANO, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning to you, Bill.

Well, some long lines at the British Airways counters here at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. after security concerns prompted changes to scheduled flights. Now, U.S. authorities are not commenting so far, but yesterday two British Airways flights were canceled, flights involving Dulles Airport, one heading to and one coming from London.

Now, on at least one of those flights, a request from the British government resulted in that cancellation. But, again, at this time, U.S. authorities are not commenting on that situation.

Now, one day earlier, a flight from London en route here to the Washington, D.C. area was escorted by fighter jets. And once it landed, the passengers were kept on the plane for several hours. A law enforcement official says about a dozen names on the passenger list for that flight apparently seemed to match names on a terror watch list. Authorities interviewed passengers and determined that they posed no threat.

Meantime, in Alaska, the U.S. Coast Guard has resumed the transfer of oil onto tankers at the Port of Valdez after a temporary shutdown on Wednesday. A spokesperson attributing that move, the shutdown, to the nation's elevated threat level.

Now, as for the code orange terror alert, law enforcement officials are saying they believe that it will likely last until most of January, at the very least -- Bill.

HEMMER: Elaine, thanks.

Elaine Quijano there.
