BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: There are four presidential candidates locked down right now in a virtual dead heat in the state of Iowa. It's three days and counting now for the caucuses there. The latest polling numbers show Howard Dean at 22 percent, John Kerry at 21, then Dick Gephardt and John Edwards both at 18 percent. They're all in Iowa, all pushing for strong support Monday evening.
Bob Franken is there again this morning live in Davenport on the election bus as it rolls on through the Iowa state there.
Hey, Bob, good morning. How goes it?
BOB FRANKEN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Good morning.
And the election rolls on, and ever since we've started pondering the campaign, we've talked about this really as a four-person race. And, sure enough, as we come to the end of the Iowa campaign, that's exactly what has transpired.
Howard Dean, of course, has been the person who had rocketed into the lead over the year, and he continues probably to be considered the favorite, which might work to his detriment.
But now, we have John Kerry, the man who was the early favorite, but slipped so much. He is gaining traction, and the polls show that.
And the other man who is now showing up, who hadn't really been for a while, is Senator John Edwards. He's making a strong showing. And you can tell it when you watch him campaign at how it's revved him up.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SEN. JOHN EDWARDS (D), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: I can't do it alone, but you and I can do it together. We can change America. And there is so much energy and excitement around this campaign. You don't have to go any further than this room to feel that. It is everywhere -- absolutely everywhere. But the best test -- the best test is I'm now being attacked by everybody.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
FRANKEN: And, of course, there's a lot of energy also in the Gephardt campaign. He has a lot of union support, and those supporters particularly from the teamsters union have been, and they held a very boisterous rally last night. This is really revving up. There are about three and a half days to go, and probably it's going to be decided in those three and a half days -- Bill.
HEMMER: Bob, thanks -- Bob Franken in Davenport.
