BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Now to a special Golden Globes edition of "90-Second Pop." With us today, B.J. Sigesmund, staff writer for "US Weekly."
Nice to see you, B.J. Welcome back.

B.J. SIGESMUND, STAFF WRITER, "US WEEKLY": Thank you, Bill.

HEMMER: Jessica Shaw, "The Shaw Report," "Entertainment Weekly."

Nice to see you, Jessica.

JESSICA SHAW, "ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY": You, too.

HEMMER: Jessica and Jessica last time.

Toure is back with us. Out of the Witness Protection Agency, he emerges. Contributing editor for "Rolling Stone." Where have you been?

TOURE, CONTRIBUTING EDITOR, "ROLLING STONE": Well, I was actually in Con (ph) with Beyonce over the weekend, so...

HEMMER: Oh, well, that was just the weekend. You've been gone for months from here. We missed you, man.

SHAW: In Con (ph).

HEMMER: In Con (ph), oh, life is...

TOURE: It's a tough life. Before that (UNINTELLIGIBLE). It's a fun life.

HEMMER: OK, all right. Well, listen, let's talk first about "Lord of the Rings." It seemed to be the big winner last night. Well deserved?

SIGESMUND: Absolutely. I mean, this has been the movie of the last three years, really. Everyone has been waiting for this, for the year for "Lord of the Rings." And here it is finally.

HEMMER: You saw it.

SIGESMUND: Yes, I mean, it's all there on the screen. It's made over $300 million. This has looked like the winner of the Golden Globes and the Oscars for six months now.

SHAW: Also, this is the first time it's actually getting the award. I mean, for just the three years it's been dissed.

(CROSSTALK)

TOURE: Oh! Oh!

SHAW: Toure is not a fan.

TOURE: Oh, god, this boy without courage fighting monsters that he can't beat, and he beats them over and over. Do we have to watch it three times?

SHAW: Why are you (UNINTELLIGIBLE)?

TOURE: Oh, god! Why doesn't he have courage like Harry Potter? Him I like.

SIGESMUND: This is just the first movie that Toure is not going to like this morning. We can move on.

HEMMER: "Lost in Translation," was it deserved?

TOURE: Oh, god! What is everyone so excited?

HEMMER: What was wrong with that movie?

TOURE: It is so racist. The heart of it is racist.

HEMMER: Racist?

TOURE: It hates -- it is hating the Japanese people. They're all stupid. They're all soulless. Only the white people have souls in this movie. And I'm not the only one who feels this way. I was disgusted at how all of the punch lines were the Asian people being stupid.

HEMMER: What about the sense of loneliness that this movie is trying to portray?

TOURE: I mean, Bill Murray was brilliant. Scarlet was brilliant. But I'm disappointed in Sofia making this movie that is racist at its heart.

HEMMER: Whoa!

SIGESMUND: Wow! People do talk about the acting performances as being the best part of the film -- Bill Murray. And he got his award last night, you know, and Scarlet Johansson was nominated.

HEMMER: Let's talk about another movie that's getting a lot of acclaim for its acting: "Mystic River." Sean Penn wins last night. So does Tim Robbins.

TOURE: It's a good year for Boston.

(CROSSTALK)

HEMMER: He probably should have his (UNINTELLIGIBLE), right?

SHAW: Yes, that was a movie that was -- I mean, everyone, the critics loved that movie, and people loved Sean Penn, And like Clint said when he accepted the award, Sean Penn doesn't tend to get awarded that much, and he's probably the best actor working.

SIGESMUND: He also doesn't tend to go to many award shows.

SHAW: I know. And I thought that there was a family emergency up north.

SIGESMUND: Yes, I don't know what that was about.

SHAW: I'm not going.

TOURE: Right.

SIGESMUND: Yes, I know. He has so often blown off the Oscars. He hasn't gone to them, and, you know, he'll probably be nominated for an Oscar tomorrow morning, and we'll see if he shows up.

HEMMER: Let me run through a couple of things real quick, if I could. "Cold Mountain," eight nominations. It did not do as well as a lot of people had thought.

SIGESMUND: This just wasn't really the year for "Cold Mountain." I mean, Renee Zellweger won for best supporting actress.

SHAW: Didn't she look like she was so surprised? Like, oh, my, god. I can't believe it.

(CROSSTALK)

SHAW: The one shoe-in award.

SIGESMUND: Right, right. But, you know, Nicole Kidman, she really didn't stand a chance against Charlize Theron. It's like a steam truck, this movie, "Monster," and Charlize Theron.

TOURE: Yes, I'm so happy about Charlize Theron, because, of course, she's African-American. I love to see her win.

HEMMER: You're going with this all day today, aren't you? You're allowed. You've been out for a month.

TOURE: Yes.

HEMMER: "The Office" surprised a lot of people. Is this something we've overlooked? Should we be checking this out, giving it much...

SIGESMUND: Yes.

SHAW: Great show.

HEMMER: Yes? SHAW: Great, great show.

TOURE: You know, no matter how great "The Office" is, and I know it is, for "Sex and the City" not to win is like for Shaquille O'Neal not to win MVP. Come on.

SIGESMUND: Yes.

SHAW: Well, Jessica won. I mean, they -- she got...

(CROSSTALK)

TOURE: That's good.

SIGESMUND: And it could also win next year, because it can be nominated next year as well.

HEMMER: And I know two months ago when we sat here you guys were really big on "Angels in America," and it won last night. It did great, too.

Let me move on to fashion, Jessica. That's your area.

SHAW: Yes.

HEMMER: You have a list of the good and the bad, and I've got your list here.

SHAW: Hit me.

HEMMER: Hit me. Easy. We're on TV.

SHAW: Well, I think the big controversy of the night is going to be Nicole Kidman. That's -- people are either going to love it or hate it. I personally loved it.

HEMMER: Yes.

SIGESMUND: I did not love it.

SHAW: B.J. hated it.

TOURE: I liked it.

SIGESMUND: I think it...

SHAW: I loved the gold sequins, the flapper look.

TOURE: The flapper look? The hair?

SHAW: Beautiful.

SIGESMUND: I didn't like it. I didn't like the headband. I thought -- what was that weird thing down the middle? Plus, her breasts seemed...

SHAW: It's called sexy.

SIGESMUND: No, her breasts actually seemed to be falling out of it at one point, I thought.

SHAW: No, no, no.

HEMMER: It's cable.

SHAW: No. Charlize Theron was beautiful.

HEMMER: Who was bad?

SHAW: The bad -- I feel like all of the men were having a serious bad hair day. You had Johnny Depp in that hat, Al Pacino in that horrible ponytail.

TOURE: Ponytail.

(CROSSTALK)

SIGESMUND: Can we talk about Cynthia Nixon and that weird ball...

SHAW: Yes, the weird ball.

SIGESMUND: ... or whatever she was wearing? She had extra hair.

SHAW: Tom Cruise sort of looked like he was balding. And, like, he's got to stop chewing gum so much on camera. It was like...

TOURE: Wait. But how uncomfortable was he when Nicole announced his name, and they're like cutting right on him.

SHAW: Oh I know, exactly.

(CROSSTALK)

HEMMER: Actually...

TOURE: I know. That was great.

HEMMER: ... how surprised were you that Cruise did not win that? Because, normally they will set that up where they will announce, nominate...

SHAW: Yes.

HEMMER: ... and then watch for the moment. Hey, thanks. You guys were not short of opinions today, were you? B.J., Jessica, Toure, come back anytime, all right, later in the week.

SHAW: Thank you.
