SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Turning to some business news now, one of the world's biggest auto makers stalls.
Andy Serwer has the story. He is minding your business this morning -- good morning.
ANDY SERWER, "FORTUNE" MAGAZINE: Good morning.
One is stalling, another one's accelerating. We probably anticipated this for quite a while, Soledad, and that is that Toyota has taken over the number two spot in worldwide car sales from Ford.
Let's take a look here at how it breaks down. Basically what's going on is Toyota is growing like crazy and Ford's been slipping a little bit. There it is, the numbers for 2003. And you can see G.M., of course, number one. They're not going to catch them for a while, although not too long. Toyota and then Ford.
What happened last year, Toyota up 9.9 percent, Ford down 3.6. So that'll happen. Ford, of course, includes Lincoln Mercury, Volvo, Jaguar and -- what am I missing? Land Rover. Not Mazda, though, because they don't own enough of that.
But, you know, basically what's happened is Toyota has been selling a lot of cars in the United States for years. They make the cars here, of course, so you can't bash them anymore about that. They've been making trucks here now, doing very well. And the Lexus, of course, is doing very well on the high end. So they just continue to keep doing well.
O'BRIEN: Across-the-board they're doing well.
SERWER: That's right.
