SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Business news now, this could be a key day of testimony in the Martha Stewart trial.
Andy Serwer is off, but Christine Romans is here minding your business -- good morning.
CHRISTINE ROMANS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning.
Today is a big day. Douglas Faneuil -- he is the assistant Merrill Lynch broker to Peter Bacanovic, who was Martha Stewart's broker -- is expected to testify later today. This is important testimony for the prosecution. They're trying to prove to the jury that Martha Stewart got a tip from Doug Faneuil passed on by way of, from Peter Bacanovic, passed on by way of Doug Faneuil, that Martha should sell her ImClone shares. There was a suspicious stock trade in December 2001 that has sparked all of this, of course, and Martha Stewart is being charged with lying to prosecutors about an investigation into the sale of those ImClone shares.
We'll hear from Doug Faneuil this afternoon. We were expecting this late last week. It was delayed. This is the important testimony that everyone's been looking for.
O'BRIEN: Sort of the whole entire case has hinged on what he is going to say.
ROMANS: Essentially. There are three players -- Doug Faneuil, Peter Bacanovic and Martha Stewart -- and Doug Faneuil is pretty important here.
O'BRIEN: Why was Rosie O'Donnell -- I mean, Barbara Walters the week before.
ROMANS: Right.
O'BRIEN: Rosie O'Donnell now, hanging out in the courtroom.
ROMANS: Rosie O'Donnell showed up at court yesterday. Rose O'Donnell was stopping by to talk to the press, to give her support for Martha Stewart. She even had a bag of M&Ms and sort of jokingly tried to bribe the prosecutor, saying, listen, buddy, you're going to be known for the rest of your life as the guy who tried to take Martha Stewart down. How do you feel about that?
This is what she had to say about her support for Martha Stewart.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) ROSIE O'DONNELL: Yes, we actually receive -- yes, I e-mail her back and forth and I leave messages, as she did for me during my trial. And I think she's an amazing woman.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ROMANS: For the many, many reporters that are covering that trial and watching this every day, it's been pretty interesting. Barbara Walters showed up last week. Also, there's been, of course, Martha Stewart, now Rosie O'Donnell. And Mark Schwartz (ph), he is the CFO of Tyco. Remember Tyco?
BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Yes.
ROMANS: He's been on trial since September at a nearby courthouse. He even stopped by yesterday.
O'BRIEN: He swings by when he's not on the stand.
ROMANS: Apparently. It's just corporate crime watch all over the southern tip of Manhattan these days.
O'BRIEN: OK. All right.
Christine, thanks a lot.
ROMANS: You're welcome.
