[08:30:10] MICHAELA PEREIRA, CNN ANCHOR: Good to have you back with us here on NEW DAY.
Freddie Gray's family still waiting for answers about how he died while he was in police custody. We're joined now by two mothers who sadly know exactly what Gray's mother is going through, Valerie Bell and Sybrina Fulton. Valerie Bell's son, Sean Bell, was shot to death, as you'll recall, by police at his bachelor party in 2006. Sybrina Fulton's son, Trayvon Martin, was shot and killed in his neighborhood by George Zimmerman in 2012.
It's a terrible club you belong to, the two of you.
VALERIE BELL, MOTHER OF SEAN BELL: That's right.
PEREIRA: Have you met before?
BELL: Yes.
SYBRINA FULTON, MOTHER OF TRAYVON MARTIN: Yes.
PEREIRA: Several times now. You've sat and talked about this several times.
Sybrina, I want to start with you and ask you about, when this happened weeks ago, what was your initial thought? How did you react?
FULTON: My initial thought was, you know, certainly that this country is in a crisis, and now it's Baltimore. I mean it seems to be just going on in every part of the United States. And it's like people just aren't listening. The right people aren't listening to change the laws, to try to make a difference, to try and do something about these tragedies that continues to happen.
PEREIRA: Valerie, you've said that every time this happens, and it has happened several times since your son died -
BELL: Yes.
PEREIRA: It re-opens that wound for you. Help us understand how a family can cope through this kind of thing?
