Bobbi Kristina Brown Update
Aired February 05, 2015 - 20:00 ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
NANCY GRACE, HOST: Breaking news tonight. We go live. American songbird superstar Whitney Houston's lookalike daughter in a coma, found
unconscious, face down in her bathtub, doctors telling family prepare for the worst, Whitney Houston's family telling us tonight they are holding out
for a miracle.
While doctors say the situation is, quote, "bleak," this is what we know at this hour. Just eight days to the three-year mark of her mother,
Whitney Houston's, death, also found submerged in a bathtub, history repeats itself.
Bombshell tonight. Sources take us to the moment Bobbi Kristina is found face down in that tub of water, and we go inside that bathroom where
her near lifeless body was dragged out of the tub.
And tonight, was there a fourth person in the home when Bobbi Kristina is found who witnessed the whole thing? Tonight, we obtain text messages
from Bobbi Kristina herself detailing in her own words family fights over her mom, Whitney Houston's, millions.
We go live for the latest on Bobbi Kristina's fight for her life, as at this moment, she still lies in a hospital bed hooked up to life support,
hanging in limbo between life and death.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And it's just a waiting game right now.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Bobbi Kristina Brown was unresponsive in a bathtub.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The chances that someone saw or heard something that day are pretty high.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Max, he pulled her from the water, pulled her out of the tub, immediately called 911.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It was eerily familiar. Her mother died in a similar scene almost three years ago.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: And live, (INAUDIBLE) suburbs, child abuse, used diapers, scattered trash, solid mattresses, the filthy house were three young
children, one just a few months old, abandoned by both parents with no heat, no food, padlocked from the outside-in, the three young children,
including an 11-month-old infant, alone, locked in a filthy home, starving, shivering in temperatures as low as 40 degrees, two of the tots under a
single blanket, the other, the baby, body temperature 94 degrees, in the throes of hypothermia. Tonight, we locate Mommy and Daddy, and we want
justice!
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You can see all the garbage there blocking the front door.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The children, ages 7, 3 and 11 months old, were locked inside with no food or heat.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The school district did call child protective services three times.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (INAUDIBLE) wrecked (ph) inside, feces and stink.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: And Fort Lauderdale as the search turns desperate for a gorgeous young music teacher, Lisa Hayden Gordon (ph), nicknamed Noodles
(ph), last seen at a small music performance. Tonight, her loved ones call in the psychics. Where is music teacher Lisa?
Good evening. I'm Nancy Grace. I want to thank you for being with us.
Bombshell tonight. Sources take us to the moment Bobbi Kristina is found face down in a tub of water and take us inside that bathroom where
her near lifeless body was dragged out of the tub. And tonight, was there a fourth person inside the home when Bobbi Kristina's found who witnesses
the whole thing?
Tonight, we obtain text messages from Bobbi Kristina herself detailing family fights over her mom, Whitney Houston's, millions. We are live for
the latest on Bobbi Kristina's fight for her life as she still lies in a hospital bed at this hour, hooked up to life support, hanging in limbo
between life and death.
Straight out to Melanie Bromley, chief news correspondent with E! News. Melanie, is it true there was another person in the home when Bobbi
Kristina is dragged out of that bathtub?
MELANIE BROMLEY, E! NEWS (via telephone): Yes, it is true. We were told that was a cable man who was there at the house in order to fix the
security system. This has only just come out that we've discovered this. But obviously, there were more witnesses to what happened in those final
moments what (ph) we were initially led to believe.
GRACE: Melanie, I'm stunned that there is yet another person. Now, you're telling me that this is a cable guy that happened to show up to work
on their security system and sees the whole thing unfold?
BROMLEY: That's right. He was in the house at the time when it happened. And that was when Max, who is Nick Gordon's friend, went up to
the bathroom and knocked on the door because Bobbi Kristina was not responding. But yes, there was a cable man who was there at this time.
GRACE: You know, very interesting what you just said Melanie Bromley. You said when Nick Gordon -- did you say when Nick Gordon, the fiance, goes
and knocks on the door, or his friend, Lomas?
BROMLEY: It was his friend Max went and initially knocks on that door because (INAUDIBLE) because he wasn't getting any response, walked in,
found Bobbi Kristina, and then called for Nick. Nick was somewhere else in the house and ran to the scene, and that was when he performed CPR and 911
was called.
GRACE: Now, what we are hearing from the chief correspondent at E! News Melanie Bromley -- HLN has not confirmed this yet. There is a fourth
person, a third witness emerging from inside the townhome where Bobbi Kristina is found face down in a tub of water.
We're also learning and pinpointing tonight the accuracy of reports that it was not her fiance, as was first reported, but his friend, Lomas,
the one that's come under fire for having a rap sheet -- that it's Lomas who actually pulls her out of the tub and starts efforts to save her.
Take a listen now.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Max was the one who got her out of the bathtub because he is the one that found her there. He looks over and he sees his
very close friend in an apparent lifeless state in a bathtub. The first thing anyone would do is exactly what he did, is he reached in literally
and pulled her out of the tub as fast as he could, started calling for help, even called 911 to alert the authorities to send paramedics.
And that's exactly what happened. He reached in and physically grabbed her person and pulled her from the water. And at that point in
time, he realized that there was something very, very wrong. She appeared to be lifeless. Her color was abnormal. He called 911 and then, of
course, called for help from others in the house. And eventually, Nick came in, and resuscitative measures were begun and continued until EMS
arrived on scene.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: OK, this is contrary to all of the reports that we have been told so far. We knew that both of these men were in the home, and that
would be the fiance, Nick Gordon, and this friend -- you're looking at him right there -- Max Lomas. We were told all along that Gordon pulled her
out. Not true, according to Lomas's lawyer. Max Lomas I guess decided that Bobbi Kristina was not answering to his calls. He goes in, he sees
her, he, quote, "drags" her out of the tub. He also says that she had an abnormal color.
Joining us, in addition to Dr. Bill Lloyd out of Sacramento tonight, Dr. John Boockvar, Dr. Boockvar, neurosurgeon, professor of neurological
surgery in New York. Doctor, thank you for being with us.
DR. JOHN BOOCKVAR, NEUROSURGEON: Good evening.
GRACE: What does that mean, that her color, her body was abnormal?
BOOCKVAR: Well, ultimately, she is a drowning victim. And ultimately, that means you have decreased oxygen to your body, both your
body and brain. And that's a lifeless situation and one that needs to be resuscitated, like you talked about.
GRACE: OK, now, hold on. Why would her whole body be an abnormal color, Dr. Boockvar?
BOOCKVAR: Well, what oxygen does is it gives you a pinkish or a red hue. And when you have no oxygen to your body, you become blue. And
you've seen this in -- in other reports, whether children drown in a pond or in this situation like this.
GRACE: With me, Dr. John Boockvar. Also with us, Dr. Bill Lloyd, Dr. Boockvar, neurosurgeon, professor of neurological surgery. Doctor, how
long would it have taken for Bobbi Kristina's body to actually turn a different color, to have this abnormal color?
BROMLEY: It can take as little as five minutes. And ultimately, that's when the brain starts to lose its function. And so it's imperative
for the body to restore its oxygen supply within minutes, particularly to vital organs like the brain or kidneys or the periphery.
GRACE: Now, that's five minutes if she was drowning. What if there was another problem?
Everyone, you're seeing Lifetime "The Houstons on Their Own."
What if her ailment is not due to drowning? What if she had a seizure, a heart attack? What if she fell and slipped in the shower and
hit her head? I mean, would she still have that abnormal color in just five minutes if one of those had happened?
BROMLEY: Well, obviously, there would be other signs, for example, of injury or trauma. But if she were to have a seizure or a drug-induced
episode, these would be masked by the effect of drowning, and the change in the body color could mask any other signs or -- any other signs of injury.
GRACE: Tough question, Dr. Boockvar. If she had had heart attack, would she be in a coma like this?
BROMLEY: She absolutely could.
GRACE: OK.
BROMLEY: And if she had a heart attack in the bathtub and now is, you know, a drowning victim, she'd be in the same state. In fact, it really
doesn't matter what caused her to lose consciousness and to submerge herself where she couldn't get herself out of a tub of water. It's almost
irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, the brain will perish under water without oxygen in as little as five minutes.
GRACE: OK. If she had had a heart attack -- let me ask you this, Doctor. She's 21 years old. I believe she turns 22 in around March.
Statistically, how often does a 21-year-old have a heart attack, a mortal heart attack?
BROMLEY: It's very, very uncommon.
GRACE: Or a stroke.
BROMLEY: Exceedingly uncommon.
GRACE: OK. So if we ruled out...
(CROSSTALK)
GRACE: If we ruled out heart attack and stroke -- everyone, you're seeing Bobbi Kristina's Twitter account, and from Lifetime, as well.
If we ruled out heart attack and stroke, you're saying that regardless of why she fell into the water, her body would then take on this abnormal
color that Lomas is talking about.
BROMLEY: Exactly. The color and the way the body turns is due what we call a hypoxic state. And it's because she was submerged as if she was
submerged in a lake or a pond. This would be the state that her body would take.
GRACE: Everyone, we are showing photos that we have obtained of Bobbi Kristina. At this hour, we understand that Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother
and her grandmother, is now en route to the hospital. We also learn at this hour, according to E! News chief news correspondent Melanie Bromley,
there is a fourth person in the home.
Here is Bobbi Kristina.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Twenty-one-year-old female in the bathtub, face down.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Maxwell Lomas was in the house when Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: His attorney says that it was Lomas and not Nick Gordon who found Bobbi Kristina and called 911.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (INAUDIBLE) CPR in progress.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm standing right in front of the home of Bobbi Kristina. This is the SunTrust bank, where police reportedly asked the
employees if they saw or heard anything that day. Now, we've also heard reports that police are looking into surveillance video from local
businesses.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: Welcome back, everyone. At this hour, we are positioned around the hospital, trying to find out the latest.
Straight out to Martin Savidge, CNN correspondent. Martin, if you go on line, you see that she's off life support, that she's doing much better,
that she's near death, that the family has been called to say goodbye, while the family says, No, that's not true. What is the truth, Marty?
MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: The truth is that we know that she is in a very serious medical condition, Nancy. We also know that according
to her family, she's been fighting her life. And as you've already pointed out, she was found to be in that bathtub where she was face down in water,
and according to authorities up there in Roswell -- that's the community where she lived -- she was unresponsive. They mean that she had no
heartbeat and that she wasn't breathing at the time.
Emergency responders clearly were able to revive her, but now she's in a medically induced coma, and her family has said that they have remained
by her side. We should also point out she's in the neuro intensive care unit at Emory University hospital. That alone would suggest that her
medical situation is dire, Nancy.
GRACE: And you know, Marty, she couldn't be anywhere better. That is the 12th best neurological institute in this country, according to "U.S.
News & World Report." She was moved there from the North Fulton Hospital, where she first went.
And you pointed out something very important in my mind, Martin, that when -- when we first thought it was Nick Gordon, the fiance, that pulled
her out, it's not. It's the friend, the friend that's been taking so much heat for having a rap sheet. He's the one that pulls her out, and he says
that it was a lifeless body. That goes along with what you said. She didn't have a heartbeat. I didn't realize that she had no heartbeat,
Martin.
SAVIDGE: Yes, that's what the authorities up there in Roswell have said. So that only demonstrates to us all just how much on the brink of
life and death she was at the time that she was discovered. It doesn't necessarily say how long she was face down in the water, and it doesn't
necessarily explain everyone who was in that house or why they were in the house when they were. That, of course, is part of an investigation that's
under way.
It should be pointed out that Chris Brown (ph) -- he's the attorney for Bobby Brown -- has said that there is -- he's implied, rather --
another investigation under way. He's implying that it's a private investigation either being conducted by or through the family, Nancy.
GRACE: You know, interesting that you're referring to an investigation because what we understand, Martin, is there is a full-
fledged police investigation going on, which is very unusual if everybody's agreeing that this was just an accident.
Tonight, we go inside that bathroom and we find out what happened exactly when Bobbi Kristina was pulled out of the tub, according to the man
who pulled her out. And I'm talking about Max Lomas. Take a listen. Here's his lawyer.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: 10:20 in the morning on January 31st, Max went into the bedroom, looking in on her, checking on her welfare because she
was not answering when they were sounding (ph) for her. So not seeing her in the bedroom, he walked further into the bathroom, and that's where he
found her. After that, he pulled her from the water, pulled her out of the tub, immediately called 911 to begin the process of getting the medical
attention that she so desperately needed.
Max realized something was wrong when Krissy (ph), as he calls her, would not respond when she was being called for. He realized that she was
in her room and was not being responsive when her name was called. Out of concern for her wellbeing, he went into the bedroom to look for her, and we
know what happened from that point going forward.
When the authorities arrived, they initially began CPR and eventually transported her to the hospital. The police, of course, were on scene.
And Max -- and I can't speak for anyone else, but I know Max was asked questions for quite a long period of time at various parts of the day on
that Saturday and spent most of his day that day answering police questions.
We've personally been in touch with investigators as recently as yesterday, and we have plans to continue our dialogue as much as is
necessary in an effort to completely cooperate in whatever way we are needed to going forward.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: All right, there you hear that this guy that pulls her out of the tub has been going through hours of police questioning voluntarily. We
also know that police go to the surrounding businesses. It's just over a high fence -- we just showed you video of that fence -- outside this
enclave, this upscale gated community. There's a whole strip there called the Ellard shopping mall -- and there's a bank, a SunTrust, there's a
Starbuck's. It's just that fence right there.
And police go to all of those businesses along the way asking, Did you see anybody jump that fence around the time Bobbi Kristina is pulled out of
the water? Do you have surveillance video? It's very unusual to me that those kind of questions are being asked if this is considered just an
accident.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The daughter of Whitney Houston remains in a medically induced coma.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The events that led that her being hospitalized are being investigated.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The husband located her in the bathtub, along with a friend.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We don't know if anyone else was in the home the day that Bobbi Kristina was found.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's very much an open question as to who was in the house, exactly when they were in the house, and at what point various
people might have been inside the house.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: We are live and taking your calls, bringing you the latest in the vigil for Bobbi Kristina.
Out to the lines, Marcia, Pennsylvania. Hi, Marcia. What's your question?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hey, Nancy. This is my question for you. In Whitney's autopsy, it mentioned that she had a heart condition, and I'm
unfamiliar with it, and I was wondering if it's a condition that Bobbi could have inherited from her mother.
GRACE: You know what? That's very, very interesting. Hold on, everybody. That's video of Whitney Houston with Bobbi Kristina as a baby,
from ABC News.
That's interesting, Marcia, because, yes, heart conditions can be hereditary. But also, we were puzzled the other night as to whether being
prone to addiction can be hereditary.
Let's go straight out to Dr. Bill Lloyd, surgeon and pathologist, and Dr. John Boockvar. Dr. Lloyd, what about it? Can a heart condition be
inherited?
DR. BILL LLOYD, SURGEON AND PATHOLOGIST: Oh, there's many different types of inherited heart conditions, whether you have a problem with the
pump itself or the different chambers of the heart, or problems with the muscle or the metabolism of the cells inside the heart. Also, about the
inheritance of addiction problems, as well.
You know, we heard earlier from my expert colleague how it's unusual for someone who's only 22 to have sustained a heart attack. So when an
anomaly like this happens, you have to think of the unusual causes, and probably number one on the list would be illicit drug use.
GRACE: With me, Dr. Bill Lloyd and Dr. John Boockvar.
You know, Melanie Bromley, chief news correspondent, E! News, we have learned of Bobbi Kristina's obsession in the weeks leading up to this
incident with the three-year mark of her mother's death. And I am in no way suggesting that this is a suicide attempt because I don't believe that
it is. I really do not believe this was any sort of attempt at suicide. But what was her frame of mind?
BROMLEY: You know, I've spoken to people who are very, very close to her and (INAUDIBLE) talked about, actually, how she was very excited. She
was mentally (ph) flying to Los Angeles this week in order to record some music. She was very happy and wanted to continue her mother's legacy. She
had been working on this new music for a long time, writing, singing. There was no indications that there was anything wrong. She was just
happy, actually.
And of course, it was the anniversary coming up of her mother's death. But I was told that she always missed her mother. She always talked about
Whitney 100 percent of the time. And it wasn't something that was kind of exaggerated in her last few weeks.
GRACE: Everyone, you're seeing Whitney singing with Bobbi Kristina on Polish television, TVP-1. We also know that, according to some sources,
leading up to this bathtub incident, Bobbi Kristina had been plagued by the recollection of her mother's death. In eight days it will be the three-
year mark since she loses the person she loves and who loves her the most. Her mother, Whitney Houston.
Also we learn money problems brewing.
Problems? That's not quite the right word. Her mom had left an $80 million fortune according to estimations. But we obtained texts from Bobbi
Kristina that show arguments going on regarding money.
"Grandma says she's tired of the drama. That you should call her your own damn self, Bobbi Kristina. Yes, I need to get in touch with her.
She's falling for Pat's S-H-I-T. But little does she know that was Pat who has control of my money and everything. Grandma thinks I'm in charge of.
There's a lot going on. A lot going on. OK. I know I need to call her. Thanks for the advice. LOL, you just don't want to be at anyone's funeral
regretting. No one's perfect not even Grandma."
So that's a portion of what we know about the arguments ongoing over money.
To Clark Goldband, make some sense of it -- Clark.
CLARK GOLDBAND, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER, COVERING STORY: Yes, Nancy, these texts were supplied to us by someone close to the family who claims
they were sent by Bobbi Kristina.
Now we also obtained a police report, Nancy, from the Alpharetta Police Department in which the aunt of Bobbi Kristina tried to file
harassment charges on the fiance of Bobbi Kristina, Nick Gordon. Now authorities ultimately had decided there were no course of action to file
charges but if these text messages hold true they certainly jive with some of the claims she made in the police report that at the very least, Nancy,
there was some tension about family finances.
GRACE: Her life in turmoil greatly due to all that money.
Tonight pray for B.K., this is from Bobbi Kristina's Twitter.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And it's just a waiting game right now. The daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Bobbi Kristina Brown was unresponsive in a bathtub.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: The chances that someone saw or heard something that day are pretty high.
PHILIP HOLLOWAY, ATTORNEY FOR MAX LOMAS: Max, he pulled her from the water, pulled her out of the tub, immediately called 911.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: It was eerily familiar. Her mother died in a similar scene almost three years ago.
HOLLOWAY: Max was the one who got her out of the bathtub because he is the one that found her there. He looks over and he sees his very close

(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: At this hour we are in and around the hospital trying to find out the very latest on Bobbi Kristina still in a medically induced coma.
Contrary to reports that she has been taken off life support, that she has died. That is not true. From what we're learning she is still on life
support. She has been semi-responsive. She's by no means dead and the family is sending me messages tonight. #stillprayforbk, and that is our
request tonight.
You know, we got it from the horse's mouth, from the man who pulls her out of the tub. But when we ask the question was water coming out of her
nose or mouth, this is what we learned.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HOLLOWAY: Was water coming from Bobbi Kristina's mouth and nose? There was a lot going on. It was a very dramatic and traumatic scene. The
exact details of how things happened, physically, medically, how things transpired is all part of the investigation that's being conducted by law
enforcement. With the assistance of course of the medical personnel involved. So those are details that right now are perhaps not completely
known.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: OK. Why wouldn't he answer that question?
To Dr. John Boockvar, neurosurgeon and professor of neurological surgery.
Dr. Boockvar, when someone has been submerged face down in water, whether they had a stroke, a heart attack, a bump on the head, whatever,
shouldn't water come out of their nose and mouth when CPR is performed?
DR. JOHN BOOCKVAR, NEUROSURGEON: I mean, ultimately yes, because the lungs will fill up with fluid and you can see some water come back up
through the respiratory tract through the nose. But not necessarily. If it's so deep in the -- in the depths of the lung you may not see it with
just normal chest compressions.
GRACE: OK. We are taking your calls. Out to Sophia in Texas.
Hi, Sophia. What is your question?
SOPHIA, CALLER FROM TEXAS: Hi, dearest Nancy. First of all, very quickly, I want to thank you so much for rescuing so many people from these
evil criminals. And as a great grandmother I'm just absolutely stunned that there was no one in this enormous family of Bobby Brown and as the
entourage of friends, between quotations, that didn't realize that she needed therapy and she needed someone to hover over her.
I lost my son 20 years ago. And it is a rollercoaster of emotions. You think you're fine, you put on a happy facade and then you go down. And
you know what I'm talking about, Nancy. You suffered a tremendous loss, too. So this was avoidable, period.
GRACE: Everyone, that is Lifetime's "The Houstons: On Our Own." And I noticed something, Sophia. And I don't know if what you're saying is
right or wrong in this case because I'm not in the home. But I noticed on the Lifetime video of their -- Bobbi Kristina's reality show that there is
a moment everybody's got wine around her. Everybody's drinking around her.
Here is Lifetime's "The Houstons: On Our Own." And at one point you see Bobbi Kristina reach for a glass of what looks like wine. And we see
them take it away.
Now watch this, watch this, Sophia. That was it. And look at her in this video. You decide. She can hardly keep her eyes open according to
professionals that have looked at this video.
What does it mean?
Sophia, I don't know if you're right or wrong, but to Dr. Bethany Marshall, psychoanalyst. Can an entire -- look, look, there we go with the
wine again. Can a whole family be blind? I think they can.
BETHANY MARSHALL, PSYCHOANALYST, AUTHOR OF "DEALBREAKERS": Nancy, maybe they weren't blind. Maybe they were trying to stage an intervention
and because of that she was cutting them off. I think what makes her vulnerable at this time is that this is the third year anniversary of her
mother's death.
And she may have been having what we call an anniversary response, which is an intensification of grief, anxiety depression at the three-year
mark of her mother's death. And because of that attempts to cope like gathering people around her, numbing out. Vulnerability, not being fully
in charge of herself, in charge of her whereabouts. This was a time she really needed her family. I wish she could have embraced them.
GRACE: Joining me right now as a special guest, this is fiance Nick Gordon's cousin, Joseph Savoy.
Now Gordon has been under a lot of fire. He was first named to be her husband. Then the father Bobby Brown gives a statement he's not her
husband. He is in the home. He is not the one that pulls her out of the tub. What if anything does that mean? We don't know.
With me, Joseph Savoy.
Joseph, you say you are here to support Nick. What can you tell us about Nick Gordon?
JOSEPH SAVOY, NICK GORDON'S COUSIN: Nancy, thank you for having me. What I want to share with the public is that I'm here because I'm very much
involved in the entertainment industry. Working with the biggest names in fashion, film and sports. And people know he's my cousin. And so people
were waiting for me to make a public statement years ago. And what I want to say is that my cousin, he cared for Krissi a lot.
And he was very passionate about her and for her. And all the speculation, you know, I get phone calls 2:00 in the morning, 3:00, 4:00,
5:00, 6:00, nonstop of questions and wondering and, you know, speak up on your cousin's behalf if, you know, he's not involved. So I just want to
let the world know, America know that my cousin, from what I know, you know, I saw him last in 2006. We spoke. He called me from London when
Whitney was in London performing and we spoke to him. Once he found out my involvement --
GRACE: Joseph, I want to hear about Nick.
SAVOY: Sure.
GRACE: You are here to support Nick Gordon.
SAVOY: Sure.
GRACE: He's been under fire.
SAVOY: Sure. Lots of fire.
GRACE: What can you tell me?
SAVOY: I can tell you that whatever's out there, the negativity, the speculation, in my heart, I know it's not true. What people are saying
about him and his personality. It's unwise that in social media when -- you know, he's -- you know, things like he's an opportunist. And he really
had a passion for -- for Whitney and her daughter.
GRACE: What I want to know is this. One thing.
SAVOY: Yes.
GRACE: Did he love Bobbi Kristina? Did he want to marry her?
SAVOY: From what I know, yes. 100 percent.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
GRACE: Yesterday, we posted this photo on Facebook and Twitter asking you to guess which serial killer acted as his own lawyer at trial. You
sent us answers using hashtag #crimeIQ. Answer, Ted Bundy.
Congratulations, Arkansas Facebook friend Melissa Pattison. You got it right.
Hopefully, we'll be able to stop you guys next time around.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: We've also learned that Bobbi Kristina Brown is in the intensive care unit.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Her friends and her family speaking out saying no, Bobbi Kristina is a fighter.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: In a medically induced coma after she was found face down in a tub.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: The third anniversary of her mother's death still weighing heavily on her mind.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: Welcome back. We are watching and hoping and praying as Bobbi Kristina remains in a medically induced coma.
Tonight is her father Bobby Brown's birthday.
To Martin Savidge, CNN correspondent, what are we learning from Bobby Brown's lawyers?
MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, they're saying a number of things. First and foremost, they pointed out, as you've already discussed
there, that this apparent marriage that Bobbi Kristina had talked about between her and Nick Gordon, Bobby Brown is denying through his attorneys,
said that they are not married and says that they never had been married.
Then on top of that, the attorney also came out today and told CNN that there apparently is a second investigation that appears to be under
way. In other words, saying that this was not the police, or perhaps you might call it the official investigation, but that there is a private
investigation that the family has instigated to try to find out how is it that Bobbi Kristina ended up as she has.
GRACE: Unleash the lawyers, Shireen Hormozdi, Atlanta, Alex Sanchez, New York.
Alex Sanchez, what difference does it make if she's married, engaged, boyfriend, girlfriend or broken up to this guy?
ALEX SANCHEZ, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: It makes a lot of difference because if she passes away, unfortunately, if she's married, the husband would have
final say. Let's say the husband may have final say in determining whether or not she should be taken off life support.
But, Nancy, I'm a little surprised at something you said. You seem to be surprised that there's a criminal investigation going on. And there
should be a criminal investigation going on here. Because if she died of drugs, the person that supplied her drugs, that person is facing criminal
liability. And if she's in a tub and she was taking drugs because somebody gave it to her, you know what, that person is in trouble. And they should
be in trouble.
GRACE: Hey, you know what? You're preaching to the choir. So you don't start up with me. What I'm saying is, this degree of a police
investigation is very rare when it's agreed all around that it's an accident.
Do you disagree with that, Shireen Hormozdi?
SANCHEZ: No, no, I don't see it that way.
GRACE: Are you Shireen? You're not.
SHIREEN HORMOZDI, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: I don't think they're criminally responsible for her death. But they could be responsible for dealing her
illegal drugs.
GRACE: OK. There's nothing so far that supports any suggestion that anybody had drugs in the home or were using drugs. But what Sanchez said
is right.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
GRACE: A bedside vigil reports her grandmother Sissy has now come to join the vigil. Here is a photo that we have just obtained, it's just
eight hours before she's found unresponsive in the tub. This is -- a photo she posted on Instagram, 2:00 a.m., just less than eight hours later, a
little over eight hours later, she's unresponsive, near death in the bathtub.
Now according to "USA Today," Bobbi Kristina Brown is not, quote, "brain dead."
To Dr. John Boockvar, what does that mean, not brain dead?
BOOCKVAR: Well, our body has certain brain stem reflexes. And we cannot declare a patient brain dead unless they meet all of those criteria.
So she may be having some basic brain stem function that is preventing her doctors and Emory from declaring her brain dead.
GRACE: Agree or disagree, Dr. Bill Lloyd?
DR. BILL LLOYD, SURGEON AND PATHOLOGIST: Well, certainly, there are some basic activities that the brain can do even if you're unconscious,
reflex type activities. And so you can't call them brain dead until they actually are. They're going to do a variety of diagnostic tests, EEGs,
looking for the electrical activity in the brain as well. And as long as she's demonstrating some primitive neurologic function, they're not going
to call her brain dead.
GRACE: So are you saying that an EEG would show she has brain activity even though she's in a medically induced coma?
LLOYD: Absolutely. But we understand now that the electrical activity has actually become quite diminished over the past few days, again
from the results of this acute brain injury brought about by lack of oxygen. But nonetheless, she's still demonstrating those brain stem
functions that do not permit them to call her brain dead at this time.
GRACE: To the lines, Ayanna in Pennsylvania. Hi, dear. What's your question?
AYANNA, CALLER FROM PENNSYLVANIA: Hi, I have a question. Was Bobbi Kristina naked or does she have clothes on?
GRACE: Well, my guess is, since she was in the bathtub, she's naked. That's my guess.
Martin Savidge, yes, no, maybe?
SAVIDGE: I think, yes, absolutely you're right. However, that is a key point. I mean, if she was found in the bathtub with clothes on, it
suggests something more sinister. If she's found without clothes, it doesn't. That has been a point that's been raised. It's never been fully
clarified. I believe, though, it is pretty strongly suggested she was not wearing clothes.
GRACE: You know what, it has not been clarified, Martin. It has not. You and the Ayanna are actually right. No one has said whether she was
clothed or not.
Everyone, the vigil continues as do our prayers for Bobbi Kristina and her family asking us to post this, #stillprayforbk.
