GRACE: Good evening. I`m Nancy Grace. I want to thank you for being with us.
Bombshell tonight. A 13-year-old school girl vanishes from home. Family finds a nightstand pushed against her bedroom door. In a bizarre twist,
focus on two V Tech students, superstars, engineering majors, track star, NASA intern.
Evidence tonight this was no spur-of-the-moment killing, both the male and female Virginia Tech students planning the murder up to three weeks.
Bombshell tonight. No bond. Female NASA intern, V Tech student in court as the explosive motive for murdering a little school girl is revealed.
Did the V Tech killers turn deadly when the school girl unwittingly reveals their so-called love relationship?
Bombshell right now. The female V Tech student is in up to here. It`s not just the male student, it`s her, too. We are learning tonight that she
helped plan. The two were at a cookout, the V Tech students. They leave the cookout to plan the murder and dumping the body, even going to a
Walmart to get the items they think they`ll need to murder and discard the little girl`s body.
This is going on far in advance of the killing of a 13-year-old school girl. I`m talking star students, track star, NASA intern. This little
girl is dead, and now we learn the two of these connived and planned the whole thing far in advance. I guarantee you they`re caught on Walmart
video. That`s like being in a casino. They`re caught buying the tools to kill and hide this little girl.
Joining me right now, Annie Anderson with CNN affiliate WSET in court today. She`s standing by at the funeral home where the funeral for little
Nicole took place. Annie, what happened in the bond hearing where the judge said no bond to this female student?
[20:05:05]ANNIE ANDERSON, WSET CORRESPONDENT: Well, after hearing arguments from the commonwealth`s attorney and Natalie Keepers herself and
both her parents took the stand. But the judge said that he agreed with the commonwealth`s attorney, citing that the one tie that Natalie Keepers
had to this community is now gone. That`s because she`s been banned from the campus of Virginia Tech.
GRACE: Also with me, Moriah Balingit. Thank you so much for being with us, the education reporter at "The Washington Post," also in court today.
Moriah, thank you so much for being with us. What else did we learn today in court? I`m very surprised she even asked for a bond.
MORIAH BALINGIT, "WASHINGTON POST" (via telephone): Yes, I mean, we didn`t really have a good sense of what her nexus to this case was, what her nexus
to this killing was. And the commonwealth`s attorney basically laid out that from -- they put the date at January 4th on out -- these two began
planning this murder.
They decided on where they would -- where the murder would be committed. They decided where to dump the body, according to the prosecutor. She, as
your correspondent said, went with him to purchase a shovel and cleaning supplies at two different Walmarts.
And then she actually physically assisted in moving the body...
GRACE: Oh!
BALINGIT: ... once this murder had taken place, into his -- into the trunk of his Lexus, and then also discarding the body in North Carolina. So her
-- the prosecutor basically laid out that she was intimately involved not only in disposing of the body but also in the planning of this murder.
GRACE: With me is education reporter for "Washington Post" Moriah Balingit.
I want to go now -- oh, everyone, what you`re seeing right now we believe is Natalie Keepers`s, who`s just come out of a bond hearing, YouTube page.
This is something she filmed for her own YouTube page, we believe. It`s hard to take on that this girl, this star student, helped plan a murder and
then hid a body of a little girl.
Martin Savidge, CNN correspondent, they`re saying -- and we`re learning all this in court. We`re learning this was planned far in advance of the
little girl going missing, that we think a possible motive is because the little girl was telling people, Oh, guess what? I`ve got a boyfriend, and
here`s his picture. And it`s David Eisenhauer, Natalie`s friend, Natalie Keepers`s friend. And so they hatch up a plan to kill the little girl and
dispose of her body.
This is what I don`t get, Marty. They`re saying in court that Natalie was part of the pre-planning. She`s accessory before the act, she`s accessory
after the act, and that she helped dispose of the body? That says to me she was there during the killing because the killing happened and then the
body, we think, was disposed of that night. So what? She`s in on the whole thing, Martin!
MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: She is. No, she`s in up to her neck, in the words of, really, when you listen to the state attorney here. And
even though -- and this is one of the weird things about it -- it is maintained that she absolutely never had contact with the victim while the
victim was alive.
But as you pointed out, she helped to carry that victim and placed her in the trunk of David Eisenhauer`s car. And all of the planning that went in
before, and all of the actions that went in afterward, according to the state attorney...
GRACE: Martin! Martin!
SAVIDGE: ... she was there.
GRACE: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Martin, Martin, look at what we`re -- look at the screen, if you can see it. That`s a mock-up of Eisenhauer`s
car. So if she helps dispose of the body, they went back to Walmart, Martin. That`s what we`re learning in court today.
And you guys correct me if I`m wrong. You were in the courtroom. So they go to the Walmart in the Lexus with the little girl in the trunk? Martin,
is that right?
SAVIDGE: It`s astounding. I mean, I couldn`t come up with the words when I heard this depiction of what Natalie was supposedly a part of.
And the other amazing thing is that if you listen to Natalie`s background - - and in no way does it excuse her actions, but she almost sounds very similar to the kind of struggles that she had emotionally. She was bullied
in school. How could she be a part of the death of this 13-year-old girl who, too, suffered bullying?
GRACE: Hey, hey, hey! Martin Savidge, save it for defense closing arguments, OK, because don`t start with me about how she`s a victim,
Martin, OK, because you know...
SAVIDGE: Well, I`m not doing that at all, Nancy.
GRACE: You know what you -- you just reminded me of something. You reminded me of something. With me from "The Washington Post," Moriah
Balingit. Moriah, isn`t it true in court today, just before we go to air, this girl charged in connection to the murder of a school girl`s father
actually says he complains about her pillow in jail not being hypoallergenic.
[20:10:13]This little girl`s funeral has just happened! It just happened. And he actually tells people he`s upset about his daughter`s pillow? She
helped slit the throat of this little girl. She helped plan it and dispose of the body. And she`s actually complaining her pillow in jail is not
hypoallergenic? Please tell me I got my facts wrong!
BALINGIT: You know, the detail about the pillow I missed, but I was also frantically writing and trying to take notes and had a little difficulty
hearing. You know, they did point out that she wasn`t getting her proper dosage of Prozac, that she does have gluten allergy and that...
GRACE: Wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wait, wa-wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! Moriah, hold on. Moriah Balingit joining me, "Washington Post." Forget about the
hypoallergenic pillow. They`re complaining about a gluten intolerance?
BALINGIT: Yes. They said that she has a gluten allergy and that she`s not being fed gluten-free food in jail. And this is in the...
GRACE: Michael Christian...
BALINGIT: ... the context of an argument being made that she should be able to stay at home.
(CROSSTALK)
GRACE: So on top of the gluten-free problem that this alleged killer, who helped plan, according to police, slitting the throat of a little girl and
dumping her body in the woods to decompose -- what can you tell me about the hypoallergenic pillow?
MICHAEL CHRISTIAN, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER (via telephone): I think it was actually a mattress. But you`re right, Nancy. And you will love this,
too. She took the stand in the hearing and promised if they let her out on bond, she wouldn`t commit suicide while she was on bond.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
[20:16:04]SAVIDGE: Police are saying that they believe this 18-year-old suspect and this 13-year-old girl met somehow via the Internet. As a
result of that, the 18-year-old used that to his advantage, lured her, you could say, out of the home because it appears on the Wednesday that she
disappeared, she left at midnight, pushed the dresser up against the door and goes out the window. And then the next time she`s found, she`s dead.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: That reporting by CNN correspondent Martin Savidge, joining us live right now. Martin, thank you for being with us. Martin, we learned so
much in that brief, very brief bond hearing today for the co-defendant, Natalie Marie Keepers, the what I thought was a star student at Virginia
Tech. Martin, what else did we learn?
SAVIDGE: You know, one of the critical elements here is that authorities, as they began zooming in on Natalie and also on Eisenhauer, they went to,
apparently, Natalie`s dormitory. Originally, they found her with her boyfriend. And they said, Look, we want to search your dorm room. And she
apparently said OK.
And they went over there, and as they`re knocking on the door to get into her dorm room, she is allegedly texting one word, all caps, sending it to
David Eisenhauer. And that is word is "POLICE."
GRACE: OK, Martin, I want to understand what you`re telling me. You`re saying they were executing search warrant or they`re looking for Natalie?
SAVIDGE: They were executing a search warrant at this particular time, according to what was said in the hearing today. This is coming from, of
course, the state attorney. She also says that that search warrant, when it was served, when they searched her dormitory room, they found the
cleaning supplies, which we`ve already talked about that were purchased at Walmart. And they found something else. It was a blanket. It was that
Minion blanket...
GRACE: Oh, no.
SAVIDGE: ... that belonged to Nicole.
GRACE: To Nicole, her own Minion blanket.
SAVIDGE: How does that get there? That`s what (INAUDIBLE)
GRACE: And that`s in -- did you say that`s in Natalie Keepers`s dorm room?
SAVIDGE: Correct. That`s what authorities are saying.
GRACE: So she kept -- unleash the lawyers. Robin Ficker, defense attorney, Maryland, Riya Greathouse (ph), defense attorney, Atlanta.
First to you, Ficker. She kept a souvenir. You know, she kept a -- did you just hear what Martin Savidge said? This star student, NASA intern,
blah, blah, blah, kept a little Minion blanket from this dead girl? We`re learning -- we`re learning her throat was solicit, according to the Roanoke
papers. Her throat was slit. And she kept a souvenir, Ficker?
ROBIN FICKER, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: This brilliant student is innocent. That blanket could have been found anywhere on campus. Obviously, this young
girl, who lived only two miles away, was frequenting the campus not just to see Mr. Eisenhauer, but also other people. That blanket could have been
found anywhere.
GRACE: Is there any evidence -- Annie Anderson joining us in front of the little girl`s funeral home, where her service was scheduled, joining us
from CNN affiliate WSET.
Annie Anderson, you were in court. You studied all the facts, all the evidence. Is there a shred of evidence to back up what Robin Ficker just
said, that this little girl had been visiting boys, men at the campus of Virginia Tech? Any evidence at all she was ever there?
ANDERSON: You know, I`ve been following this case since it first started, and that -- I have not heard anything like that. In fact, what came out
today in court is that it was Natalie Keepers herself who signed that Miranda waiver. And she`s the person who told police where to find these
things and that the Minions blanket was in her dorm. She told police exactly her part in it and how that Minions blanket got to be in her dorm
room in that suitcase. So that`s the first I`ve heard of it.
[20:20:04]GRACE: Annie, Annie, Ficker was just making that up there. There`s no evidence to that whatsoever. That`s what defense attorneys do.
Hold on. Back to Martin Savidge, CNN correspondent, and Ficker and Greathouse, I want you to hear this. Martin, let me understand correctly
what you said. As police were going to effect a search warrant at Natalie Keepers, the co-defendant`s, dorm room, she texted one word to her friend,
David Eisenhauer.
SAVIDGE: Correct.
GRACE: "POLICE." Is that right?
SAVIDGE: In all capitals. So clearly, that`s her emergency signal to Eisenhauer, They`re on to me. They`re on to us.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: After days of searches and vigils, police arrested David Eisenhauer, a Virginia Tech freshman majoring in engineering who is a
standout athlete. Prosecutors charged Eisenhauer with murder shortly before Lovell`s body was found.
[20:25:04] UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Nicole was a very lovable person.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: At this hour, the little girl`s, Nicole Lovell`s, funeral has just been completed. Joining me outside the funeral home is Annie Anderson from
CNN affiliate WSET. Martin Savidge, CNN correspondent also on the story, Moriah Balingit from "The Washington Post."
I want to look at one thing. And to you three crack reporters, tell me if we should be inserting anything into the timeline.
Oh, that shot of her in the bed, it looks like she`s just about to go to sleep. That`s just breaking my heart.
Let`s take a look at the timeline. And Moriah, Martin and Annie, listen now. Jan 26, Eisenhauer and Keepers go to a cookout, and at the cookout,
they step out to discuss murdering the school girl. And they leave, and they go to Walmart and purchase a shovel.
Jan 27, 12:39 AM -- now, remember, this is the night Nicole is kidnapped and we think murdered that same night -- the last reported interaction
between Eisenhauer and Keepers. Let`s move on. 27, between midnight and 7:00 AM, it`s discovered Nicole has vanished from her home.
Between the 27th and 29th, Eisenhauer and Keepers go back to a different Walmart -- this is all on video -- and buy cleaning supplies. And while
they`re at the Walmart, as Martin Savidge was just telling us, we believe the little girl`s body is in the trunk of the car! I wonder if they drove
through McDonald`s and got a diet Coke on the way? 29, Eisenhauer interviewed. 30, search warrants go down.
Eisenhauer denies he`s involved, but says he saw -- saw Nicole come out of the window and gave her a side hug. So he says he sees her the night she
goes missing and gives her a little hug? What`s he doing at her window?
Jan 30, 4:00 PM, Nicole`s body found 100 miles away in North Carolina. That day, Eisenhauer charged with murder one. Jan 31, Natalie Keepers
arrested for improper disposal of a body. Her charges have now been upgraded.
And Martin Savidge, CNN correspondent, from what I can tell from what they`re saying in the bond hearing -- Natalie Keepers is the real enigma
here to me, how she could get involved in this. But she was part of -- she`s charged with accessory before the fact and accessory after the fact.
So what happened? Did she go deaf, dumb and blind during the killing?
SAVIDGE: You know, that`s the thing that is so difficult to try to process. We don`t know. We really haven`t understood how did these two
come to meet. And I`m talking about Eisenhauer and Keepers. All we know is that somehow, quickly, they became friends, apparently not boyfriend and
girlfriend kind of friends, but friends, tight, so much so that when in October, Keepers suffered appendicitis, he drove her to the hospital.
And that`s when Keepers`s family shows up at the hospital and sees this boy and says, Who the heck are you? That`s the first they know of him. But
apparently, a tight bond had been formed. And from there, according to the prosecution, comes murder.
[20:30:00] (COMMERCIAL BREAK)
GRACE: Missing mom of two, Nique Leili`s body found unclothed, decomposing under leaves not far from her upscale home she shares with husband and two
daughters.
Why wasn`t Nique reported missing immediately? As we go to air tonight, we obtain bombshell secret recordings of violent struggles inside what we
believe is the murder home.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
MATTHEW LEILI, NIQUE LEILI`S HUSBAND: I did not put my hands around your throat.
NIQUE LEILI, VICTIM: Say what the (BEEP) you want to, but you had your (BEEP) hands around my throat and pinned to the (BEEP) wall.
M. LEILI: Please. You like this (BEEP) life, you really do.
N. LEILI: No, I don`t.
M. LEILI: You must (BEEP) enjoy it.
N. LEILI: No, I don`t.
M. LEILI: You keep it up. You create it.
N. LEILI: No. You create it.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
GRACE: There you hear the escalation of the domestic violence inside that home just before Nique Leili goes missing. Bombshell evidence all day long
in the courtroom. But first, I want you to hear the secretly recorded calls we obtained from inside the home that Nique Leili shared with her husband.
Listen.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
M. LEILI: Lower your voice.
N. LEILI: Don`t tell me I didn`t let it go. I know for a fact I let it go.
M. LEILI: Lower your voice. Lower your voice. Lower your voice. Lower your voice.
N. LEILI: Shut up and listen.
M. LEILI: No. I got it on tape.
N. LEILI: You`re not gonna tell me what I ...
M. LEILI: I got it on tape.
N. LEILI: On tape in the car. What you did to me in the car?
M. LEILI: I got it on tape.
N. LEILI: What have you got on tape?
M. LEILI: I got it on tape that you said in the bedroom ...
N. LEILI: That was the third time I`ve been attacked with it.
M. LEILI: In the bedroom, you said to me, no, Matt. We can`t leave things alone in the doctor`s office. We have to bring it home.
N. LEILI: That`s not what I said and how I said it and don`t take my words out of context. When we got in that (BEEP) damn car ...
[20:35:00] M. LEILI: Lower your (BEEP) -- (BEEP) damn it. (BEEP) damn it. (BEEP) damn it. (BEEP) damn it. (BEEP) damn it. (BEEP) damn it. (BEEP) damn
it! Lower your voice! I am not gonna sit here and listen to this (BEEP). You`re driving me (BEEP) nuts!
I`m not gonna change. I`m not gonna be passive and turn the other leaf and sit there and let you abuse me.
N. LEILI: Fine.
M. LEILI: Because that`s what you. You abuse me.
N. LEILI: OK. If what I do to you is abuse ...
M. LEILI: Look what you did tonight. You didn`t even hesitate. Oh, I`m gonna take the (BEEP) money out of the bank account and put it on a bank
account that he`s not on.
N. LEILI: And what happened before that, Matt?
M. LEILI: You are so (BEEP) hateful.
N. LEILI: What happened before that, Matt? You tellin` me you should`ve killed me, puttin` your hands around my throat and all this other (BEEP)
(BEEP).
M. LEILI: I never said.
N. LEILI: Calling me a (BEEP).
M. LEILI: I never said that.
N. LEILI: The words out of your (BEEP) mouth. I should have let you kill yourself so I didn`t have to (BEEP) do it. Don`t (BEEP) deny it because
those are the exact words that came out of your mouth you.
M. LEILI: I said I should`ve.
N. LEILI: You are a (BEEP) liar.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
GRACE: Joining me right now, before we play the rest of that explosive and very disturbing audio, Mike Duffy joining us on the scene.
Mike, it just keeps hitting me over and over and over how he is pinning her down by her throat. And when her body is found, there is this deep, deep
bruises around her shoulders and neck.
I don`t know how the medical examiner can`t say that this was homicide. All the medical examiner would say is it`s suspicion of homicide. I`m not
suspicious. This woman was murdered. She`s found naked, totally covered up with leaves and branches. What, she killed herself then covered herself up?
There is her head underneath this huge mound of leaves and branches. This is how her naked body is found. And we hear these audios, Mike Duffy, where
he`s strangling her. He is putting his hands around her neck.
And she is - what`s so weird about it is he`s denying everything. He is recording all this. She`s fighting with him but he knows he is being
recorded. How is the family, her family reacting to all of this?
MIKE DUFFY, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Nancy, it`s horrifying to hear, even a second time. I`m just brought back to the moment that family was clutching
each other. They were shaking. They were crying. Can you imagine this happening to someone you love? That violence, that level of utter violence.
GRACE: You know, I just -- I just can`t imagine what she was living through. And then suddenly she turns up dead, and people are saying, ooh, I
wonder who did it. Listen to this.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
M. LEILI: You think I`m gonna harm you?
N. LEILI: I don`t know, Matt. You tried to tonight.
M. LEILI: I did not!
N. LEILI: (BEEP). You don`t -- you sit and be me 98 (BEEP) pounds with 6 foot 5, 250 (BEEP) plus pounds with your hands around my throat.
M. LEILI: My hands were not on your throat.
N. LEILI: I don`t care what the (BEEP) you think, but it was my throat they were around.
M. LEILI: Well, get it through your head, they were not around your throat. Stop telling that story like that.
N. LEILI: (BEEP) (BEEP). You can justify that (BEEP) to yourself all day long, but your (BEEP) hands were around my throat. You had me pinned to the
(BEEP) wall. You threatened to kill me.
M. LEILI: I threatened to kill you, too, OK.
N. LEILI: I should have let you kill yourself so I didn`t have to do it.
M. LEILI: Right, that`s what I said.
N. LEILI: Yes.
M. LEILI: Sure.
N. LEILI: Those are the exact words that came out of your mouth.
M. LEILI: No. Those are the words that you heard.
N. LEILI: No. That`s what you (BEEP) said.
M. LEILI: No. I did not say that.
N. LEILI: You`re (BEEP) twisted.
M. LEILI: I did not say that.
N. LEILI: Yes, you did.
M. LEILI: My hands were not on your throat.
N. LEILI: Get the recorder out of the car.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
GRACE: Unleash the lawyers, Robin Ficker and Riah Greathouse, both defense attorneys out of Maryland and Atlanta.
To you, Riah Greathouse, did you hear what she said? She says, in a highly emotional state, you said I should kill myself so you wouldn`t have to do
it for me.
I got to tell you something. As much as my husband and I may disagree on something, we have never once talked about -- I hate to even say it. "I
wish you commit suicide so I wouldn`t have to kill you." I mean, just saying that, thinking about, you know, the father of your children and the
mother of your children. And now she is dead? I mean, what more does the jury need?
RIAH GREATHOUSE, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Well, Nancy, the thing is, here, couples are different. Everybody fights differently, you know. And this is just a
snapshot. We don`t know the context. We don`t know anything about it.
GRACE: Snapshot.
GREATHOUSE: It`s a snapshot where the jury is going to have to speculate. They don`t know the full story.
GRACE: They hear it.
GREATHOUSE: It`s a tragic ...
GRACE: It`s like this woman
GREATHOUSE: ... tragic situation.
GRACE: ... speaking from beyond the grave. You know, Ficker, I see you smiling. I want -- I want you to hear this, Ficker. Mike Duffy, you`re on
the scene. What can you tell me about mysteriously deleted video?
DUFFY: Nancy, we heard from the state`s final witness, computer expert detective Christopher Ford, today. He explained to the jury that nearly
seven hours of home surveillance video was deleted from the morning that Nique Leili went missing.
In total, 154 videos from the time period between midnight and 6:57 a.m. were purged from the system. According to detective Christopher Ford, this
deletion was done intentionally by someone within the family home.
[20:40:00] GRACE: OK. Did you hear that, Ficker? That`s 12,000 video clips. Twelve thousand video clips are intentionally deleted in the time leading
up to Nique`s disappearance.
ROBIN FICKER, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Someone that is going to commit a murder isn`t going to record this. He`s trying to show how psychotic and foul-
mouthed she can be. If the medical examiner can`t decide how she was murdered, how is the jury going to figure that out?
GRACE: OK. I want to talk about that. I want to talk about that. To Dr. Bradley J. Marcus, Chief Medical Examiner, Richland County.
You know, Dr. Marcus, I totally disagree. You`re seeing some of that home recorded, 21 cameras this guy was recording. He was recording himself
watching T.V.
Dr. Marcus, this woman clearly died of homicidal violence. She`s naked. She`s covered in her husband`s DNA, which I believe is going to be sperm.
She had deep tissue wounding, hemorrhaging around the deep musculature around her neck.
She was face-down, covered in leaves, which makes it physically impossible for her to cover herself up. Her body was disposed there. How can that not
be homicide, Dr. Marcus?
BRADLEY MARCUS, CHIEF MEDICAL EXAMINER, RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C.: Well, right there you said it. She was found out in the woods like that, you know,
covered up. So certainly, homicidal violence is your high suspicion.
But because she was decomposing and she was laying face-down, the blood tends to pool down with gravity. So the discoloration of the body could
also cause that. And it`s hard to say when you have a decomposing body whether it`s really bruises or not.
Certainly it`s suggestive of it. But what I can tell you probably, she didn`t have a fractured hyoid bone. If she did have a fractured hyoid bone,
you could definitely call it strangulation. But not every time you get a strangulation do you get a fractured hyoid bone.
GRACE: Larry Fishelson, tech expert at DynaLink Communications, how are those thousands and thousands of images just coincidentally deleted at the
time she goes missing we find out murdered?
LARRY FISHELSON, DYNALINK COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY EXPERT: Well, Nancy, I mean, obviously he wanted the stuff to disappear and go away. So he had it
set to be deleted. But, you know, it depends on where it was kept. If it was just kept on the computer and deleted, then it would be gone. But a lot
of times it`s set up to the Cloud. And if it`s set up in the Cloud, which is a network sitting on servers, then it still will be able to be gotten
at.
GRACE: There`s 512,000 videos, Matt Zarrell, deleted, 512,000. Well you have -- no, there are 512,000 video clips that the police went through,
none of them showing leaving the home.
The deleted files, there are 154 files that were deleted from the system, the expert looked at the time frame, they were in a four-day period. The
only files deleted were the ones from that six-hour window when she was last seen, 154 total deleted.
And following up on that, Joey Hudson, WGTK, joining us. What did we learn today, sworn testimony, about all these deleted files from a computer
expert?
JOEY HUDSON, WGTK, 94.5 HOST: Well, Nancy, we know that Matthew built his own computers. He was an expert at this and so we learned from the expert
that during this six-hour window, that there had been video there.
It`s obvious it`s been deleted. And it`s obvious that Matthew had to have deleted that. He set these up to be deleted at certain times and he also
had software on there that would -- that would just really wash it clean so that hopefully they could never be recovered.
[20:45:00] (COMMERCIAL BREAK)
GRACE: Mystery surrounding the murder of a gorgeous young doctor, Teresa Sievers murdered in her upscale Florida home. Husband and two little girls
out of town. Sievers` husband`s best friend from childhood, arrested. As police say, Sievers` husband is involved but not arrested.
Breaking now, we obtain secretly recorded police interrogation tapes of key players in the Sievers murder investigation.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And then when you walked inside the house, you said the blood was dry, or what did you say?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That half the blood is dry, half is wet. And she is cold. She is dead cold.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: All new tonight. This 911 call ...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m afraid somebody is in the house. I mean ...
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Somebody killed her.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It`s a murder. She is bashed in the back of the head.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
GRACE: We also obtained the 911 call that leads authorities to Dr. Sievers` body. Remember, her husband and two little girls out of town when she`s
murdered. Listen.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Tell me exactly what happened.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My friend, Teresa Sievers, she is a doctor. I`m a doctor. She came home last night. Her husband is in Connecticut. And she
was supposed to go to work at 9:00 and he called me. I was on my way in to work so I swung by, and she`s dead on the floor. And there`s a hammer at
her side, and she`s bashed in the back of the head.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Sir, are you inside the residence then?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, I am not. I`m standing in the driveway.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK. And then when you walked inside the house, you said the blood was dry, or what did you say?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That half the blood is dry, half is wet. And she is cold. She is dead cold.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK. And is the hammer sitting next to her and you left it? Did you touch anything?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, I did not touch anything. I touched her. I shook her a little bit.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And she was cold.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
[20:50:00] GRACE: Joining us, in addition to Bob Alexander with FOX News, is Sheriff Mike Scott, the Lee County sheriff. Sheriff, thank you for being
with us.
MIKE SCOTT, LEE COUNTY SHERIFF: Yes, Ma`am.
GRACE: Sheriff Scott, what a tangled up mess this murder case is. So who exactly is it that finds the body and why were they at the house?
SCOTT: Well, that was a friend of Dr. Sievers and her husband, Mark. Mark had called him and asked him to go check, indicating he was unable to get
in touch with Dr. Sievers. So he asked him to stop by the house.
GRACE: OK. So the husband says, hey, go check on my wife. And then he -- what a coinkydink, finds a dead body. OK, listen to one of the suspect`s
girlfriend under police interrogation.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Do you swear to tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth?
TAYLOR SHOMAKER, GIRLFRIEND OF THE ACCUSED: Yes.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Throughout the entirety of your statement?
SHOMAKER: Yes.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Thank you very much.
SHOMAKER: I said did you shoot her? And he said no. And I said then how did you kill her? And he did this little chuckle that he does and then said
with a hammer.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He said with a hammer?
SHOMAKER: Yeah.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GRACE: Ugh! Sheriff Scott, he laughed about it?
SCOTT: Well, that`s what she said. And again, this has been tragic from day one. That was sergeant Downs and sergeant Lebid leading that investigation
in Missouri, speaking with her and matter-of-factly explained that that`s what he said.
Again, that`s part of the ongoing investigation and the evidence that we`ve gathered thus far.
GRACEL: Bob Alexander, anchor with 92.5 FOX News. Bob, in the law enforcement files, it says the husband is involved. Now, Mark Sievers has
not been arrested. He has not been charged. Nothing. Why not?
BOB ALEXANDER, 92.5 FOX NEWS ANCHOR: Well, Nancy, Sheriff Scott has been adamant from the very beginning that they want to get all the T`s crossed
and all the I`s dotted before they make any further arrests, but he`s also maintained that of course there could be several arrests still down the
road.
That`s really all that we know, and that`s all that he`s been able to talk about up until now. But certainly with the release of all these hours of
video and audio that we`re seeing, brand new details are coming out that we have not had the chance to see before. And it`s just unbelievable how many
twists and turns there are in this thing.
GRACE: Dr. Charles Sophy, psychiatrist out of L.A., author of "Side by Side." Dr. Sophy, thanks for being with us.
Dr. Sophy, how do people ...
CHARLES SOPHY, PSYCHIATRIST: Yes?
GRACE: ... believe they`re going to get away with murder?
SOPHY: Because they`re in a delusional state where they`re all ramped up and they believe what they believe and they`re going to get through it. The
bottom line is it`s delusional, it`s not reality-based, and they end up getting caught.
[20:55:00] (COMMERCIAL BREAK)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK. And you didn`t see anything else, I mean, other than ...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, I didn`t. I didn`t go in the house.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I mean, I`m afraid somebody`s in the house. I mean, jeez, somebody killed her.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I mean it`s a murder. She`s bashed in the back of the head.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You know, I -- I can`t see her falling or anything like that.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Right.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I just -- I just looked, and I thought, my God, you know, she`s my friend.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Right. Exactly.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
GRACE: So Dr. Teresa Sievers` husband sends a mutual friend to go check on Dr. Sievers, and he finds her dead, murdered. Again, Mark Sievers has not
been arrested or charged as of tonight.
Matt Zarrell, did somebody actually get a T-shirt souvenir in this scenario?
MATT ZARRELL, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Yes. So Jimmy Ray Rodgers`s girlfriend told police that her boyfriend, when he came home from Florida, brought
with him a white Fort Myers Beach shirt for her as a gift.
The next day, there is a raid on the other suspect`s trailer. The other suspect, Curtis Wayne Wright, calls Jimmy Ray Rodgers and tells him about
the raid. The girlfriend tells police that Rodgers then takes the shirt and the black shoes that he bought at Wal-Mart in Florida, wraps them in a
towel and throws them in a dumpster.
GRACE: Sheriff Mike Scott, Lee County Sheriff`s office, a souvenir T-shirt? Was that T-shirt found, Sheriff?
SCOTT: Well, I`m not going to discuss that specifically. Again, the state attorney`s office will continue ...
GRACE: OK.
SCOTT: ... to release information ...
GRACE: I respect that, Sheriff. But I know somebody that will talk. Bob Alexander, FOX News. Is there a T-shirt in this scenario, and what do you
know about the items seized?
ALEXANDER: Well, Nancy, the one thing that Taylor Shomaker, the girlfriend of Jimmy Rodgers, says on this video is that one of the things that was
brought back from Florida was the rolled-up jumpsuit, a dark blue jumpsuit, which is the one that Jimmy Rodgers had her throw out the window of the
truck after he had come back from Florida.
GRACE: Mm, mm, mm.
Let`s honor, American heroes, Cincinnati District 3 officers comforting and clothing a toddler boy found alone wandering on the side of the road. The
little tot barefoot, wearing nothing but P.J.s. Officer Will Nastold, Officer Jamie Landrum, buying clothes out of their own pocket, playing with
the tot until he`s placed with relatives. Cincinnati officers, American heroes.
And tonight, I`m wearing this red pin to support the American Heart Association`s Go Red For Women National Wear Red Day. Heart disease, number
one cause of death for women. Go to goredforwomen.org.
Thanks to our guests, but most of all to you for being with us. Nancy Grace, signing off. I`ll see you tomorrow night, 8 o`clock sharp, Eastern,
and until then, good night, friend.
