ANDERSON: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Alec`s apology. Alec Baldwin shows up on "The View" for an explosive interview. He says he`s sorry for that blistering voicemail to his daughter and talks about what drove him to the edge.

Happy Friday, everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York.
VARGAS: And I`m Sibila Vargas in Hollywood. A.J. has the night off. We`ll get up to the minute details on Sandra Bullock being the victim of an alleged stalker in just a minute.
ANDERSON: That`s right. But first tonight, though Alec Baldwin speaks. The actor has pretty much been laying low since this that angry and disturbing voice mail he left for his 11-year-old daughter was leaked to the public. Today in a shocking interview with bombshell after bombshell, Alec apologized.
And to top it off, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has the surprising but thoroughly logical place Baldwin has turned for help in this emotional divorce dilemma.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
ALEC BALDWIN, ACTOR: I want to say that I`m sorry to anyone that was offended.
ANDERSON (voice-over): It was a contrite and emotional Alec Baldwin who appeared on ABC`s "The View."
BALDWIN: You are a rude, thoughtless little pig, OK?
ANDERSON: Since the bitter message Baldwin left for his 11-year-old daughter Ireland was leaked to the celebrity Web site tmz.com, Baldwin has been blasted by the public and temporarily ordered to stay away from Ireland, his daughter with his ex-wife, actress Kim Basinger.
BALDWIN: My deep, deep, deep and seemingly endless frustration about this situation, which is complicated, led me to end up saying something to someone that I really meant to say to someone else.
You made me feel like (EXPLETIVE DELETED).
ANDERSON: And as Baldwin tries to repair the public and private damage from that outburst, he`s dropping this bombshell about his role on the NBC sitcom "30 Rock."
BALDWIN: So I`ve asked NBC to let me out of my contract and let me leave the show.
BARBARA WALTERS, "THE VIEW": Have they said yes?
BALDWIN: Wait a second.
ANDERSON: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT tells you if Alec Baldwin will get his wish. Plus you won`t believe the famous face Alec is turning to for help in his family situation.
During his pre-taped interview with "The View," Baldwin claims once again that his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, is turning their daughter against him.
BALDWIN: What you learn in parental alienation is that affection for the alienated parent is portrayed as betrayal of the custodial parent, and that parent communicates that this person is not a part of my life and I don`t want to have anything to do with him and I don`t want you to either.
ANDERSON: It`s a charge Baldwin has made often in and out of court during his six-year custody fight with Basinger. In a recent statement to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Basinger fired back saying, quote, "Everybody is always asking why this custody battle has been going on for so many years, and now they have the answer. The issue is not about Kim or the alleged alienation that Alec constantly refers to, it is about his ongoing aggressive behavior."
New Yorkers pretty much told me the same thing when I hit the streets asking them what they thought of Baldwin`s rant.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think that maybe he should have extensive psychotherapy.
ANDERSON: Now it seems Baldwin is taking that advice. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has confirmed that Baldwin is getting some big-name help for his family problems.
PHIL MCGRAW, TV PSYCHOLOGIST: It`s got to stop.
ANDERSON: TV psychologist Dr. Phil McGraw. Just days ago on LARRY KING LIVE, Dr. Phil offered to help resolve this high profile custody mess.
MCGRAW: I can resolve this situation. I know - I volunteer to do it right now.
ANDERSON: Baldwin and Dr. Phil talked soon after.
BALDWIN: And I don`t need any more stress in my life right now.
ANDERSON: Baldwin is also trying to get NBC to release him from his contract on "30 Rock."
BALDWIN: If I never acted again, I couldn`t care less. I would like to devote myself to the cause of parental alienation.
ROSIE O`DONNELL, "THE VIEW": Will they let you out of the contract?
BALDWIN: I have no idea.
ANDERSON: NBC is making its answer clear. To paraphrase the movie "Dreamgirls," it`s telling him he`s not going.
BALDWIN: I have only one regret. I should have worked more.
ANDERSON: For his role as an off kilter TV executive, Baldwin has already won a shelf-full of awards. In a statement to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, NBC says, quote, "Alec Baldwin remains an important part of `30 Rock.` We look forward to having him continue his role in the show."
Still, Baldwin says he wants to be a spokesman for fathers in his situation.
BALDWIN: I have had tens of thousands of men contact me over the months who are victims of parental alienation.
ANDERSON: And he`s offering advice to divorcing couples.
BALDWIN: I say to everyone out there who is contemplating divorce or who is getting divorced, the quicker you can get to peace and just dignity for the sake of your children, there`s a place you`re going to want to get to, I promise you from the bottom of my heart, the quicker you get there, the better off everybody`s going to be.
ANDERSON: And maybe one day Baldwin and Basinger can follow that advice as well.

ANDERSON (on camera): Apparently Dr. Phil is living up to the hype. In a statement to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Alec Baldwin`s representatives say, quote, "Dr. Phil publicly offered constructive, balanced analysis of the situation before privately offering counsel to Alec," end quote.
As for Kim Basinger, her reps tell SHOWBIZ TONIGHT she will not be accepting Dr. Phil`s offer to talk with her, too.
And tonight, high drama and a major development in the Anna Nicole Smith baby battle. Larry Birkhead is heading home and with him Baby Dannielynn. This, after Anna Nicole`s estranged mother, Virgie Arthur tried to block him at the last minute. "Access Hollywood" correspondent Tony Potts was in the courtroom and he is with us tonight from the Bahamas. Larry Birkhead must be a very happy man.
TONY POTTS, "ACCESS HOLLYWOOD" (on phone): He`s very happy, Brooke, except for one thing. He`s not actually going home yet. There`s been yet another snafu here in the Bahamas.
ANDERSON: What happened?
POTTS: Well, he got the birth certificate. I was with him today when he got the birth certificate. Which made him, as you can imagine, very happy. He was ecstatic. As a matter of fact, I can tell you that when he walked out of the registrar`s office here with the birth certificate, tried to get in a car to go back to his lawyer`s office, people started saying, oh, it`s Larry, congratulations. We heard that you can go home. He held the birth certificate out the window and people went crazy, started cheering him on the streets of downtown Nassau.
It was just amazing, saying, "Congratulations, we wish the best to you." But the second step in al of that is he has to go to the U.S. Embassy to get the passport, to be able to get off this island. Apparently, they are having an awards banquet this afternoon, the entire Embassy, and are unavailable until Monday. So he cannot leave now until Monday because there`s an awards banquet. And therefore, I can`t leave either.
ANDERSON: If it`s not one thing, it`s another. My goodness.
Well, let`s talk about that birth certificate and that name change. The baby`s previous name, old name was Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern. Larry changed the name of the baby to Dannielynn Hope Marshall Birkhead.
Why did Larry leave in the name Marshall? That really raised a few eyebrows, Tony.
POTTS: It`s interesting. I`m not sure why he did that. Maybe something down the road with that U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that has that whole case of Anna. And Dannielynn having a say in the $500 million in the estate of her former husband.
I wondered about that, too. I never got that question in to him. But I thought that was weird. But also on the certificate which is kind of weird, is if you look up in the upper right hand part of it it says the number of kids that she has as of the birth of Dannielynn, which was three days prior to Daniel`s death, was only one. So if it is interpreted correctly, there may be a technical snafu in the birth certificate, but nobody has noticed that yet. And I think it looks goods for Monday and he`ll be heading home late Monday afternoon.
ANDERSON: Well, despite this new delay, I`m sure that Larry is overcome with relief and with joy. Tony Potts in the Bahamas. As always, we appreciate your insight.

VARGAS: And an amazing star`s disappearing act. Have you noticed that stars seem to be able to lose a lot of weight really quickly? How they do it? That`s coming up in show biz weight watch?

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York.
In Sandra Bullock`s next film, she`ll actually play the role of a stalker. But in real life a stalker caused Sandra major drama. Authorities in California say this woman, take a look, 45-year-old Marcia Valentine. They say she appeared to be so obsessed with Sandra Bullock, and that she tried repeatedly to run over Sandra`s husband, "Monster Garage" star and motorcycle mogul, Jesse James.
Joining me from Hollywood with all the details on this bizarre story is "Inside Edition`s" Jim Moret. Now, Jim, give us the latest. Police say Jesse James found the woman lying in his driveway. In their driveway at their home. Shouting obscenities. And then it just got worse.
JIM MORET, "INSIDE EDITION": And apparently it wasn`t the first time this woman had done so. According to neighbors and according to police, this woman has been outside their home on a number of occasions, and on this occasion, lying in the driveway. Jesse James was leaving their house on Sunday. Opens the garage. And this woman starts shouting at him. And then jumps into her car, which is a fairly late model Mercedes.
And according to the police, tries to run him over by going forward, then backing up two or three times. And then speeds off. Jesse James got out of the way each time, wasn`t hurt. But clearly this was terrifying not only for him but also for Sandra Bullock and James` 10-year-old son who saw this happen from their home.
And as you say, this is not the first stalking problem that Sandra Bullock has had. She has a stalker who is in custody right now in Tennessee in a mental facility, has been there since 2003. This is simply the latest incident for her.
ANDERSON: Well, what do we know about this woman? The press has made a big deal that she was driving a silver Mercedes. Oh, she was driving a silver Mercedes. She can`t be crazy. But obviously, potentially she can be. What do we know about this woman?
MORET: She once worked at a dental lab down in South Beach. And the most important thing to know is this -- when you`re a celebrity, you`re a target. Sandra Bullock and her husband live in a beach community. It is not a gated community. They live right on the beach and their home isn`t gated. Out of respect for them, we didn`t show their home or show the street they lived on.
But they try to have a normal life. They have children, they come and go, they have a life just like you and I do. And fans think because of these films they can approach these folks.
This particular woman, when you show that mug shot, mug shots are never very flattering, but that one is particularly eerie. The blank stare you often see on some of these mug shots.
According to police, this woman is an obsessed fan. She`s been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, which is her car, because, let`s face it, your car is a potentially lethal weapon. We don`t really know a heck of a lot about her except that she was held on $25,000 bail and got out on Thursday. And her court hearing isn`t for a few weeks. And obviously of greatest concern for Sandra Bullock and her husband is that this woman doesn`t come back.
ANDERSON: Absolutely. Out on $25,000 bail. All right. Jim Moret from "Inside Edition", thanks for joining us tonight with your perspective.
OK, even though Angelinia Jolie and her father, Oscar-winning actor, Jon Voight are still estranged, he says he is very proud of his daughter and all of the important work she does for children all over the world.
When I sat down with Jon right here in the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT studio, he really opened up about being a star and having his personal life played out in the headlines over the years.

ANDERSON: You`ve had a long, illustrious career, what, more than 70 films you`ve done?
VOIGHT: They say that. I can`t believe it. I think it`s a lie.
ANDERSON: It`s incredible.
VOIGHT: I really don`t know how many films. I can`t believe it`s 70, though.
ANDERSON: We took a look at your resume. It`s pretty long. And when you walk down a red carpet, everybody knows your name. They say, there`s Jon Voight. But along with that, Jon. comes a lot of focus on your personal life. How do you constantly deal with that?
VOIGHT: Well, for myself, I`ve always been available to the press. You know, I know you guys have a job.
ANDERSON: Right.
VOIGHT: And there`s nothing really wrong with that except that sometimes you know in the pursuit of getting attention for their magazine, they`ll distort the truth or, you know, they`ll sensationalize it and that`s not so good.
ANDERSON: No, it`s not. Well, you`re a very fascinating person and .
VOIGHT: I`m fascinated with you as well, Brooke.
ANDERSON: Thanks, Jon. And you`re talking about people getting attention in the press and the media. And I`m sure you`ve heard, recently, Alec Baldwin in a bitter dispute with his ex-wife over this voice mail that he loves his daughter Ireland. He loves his daughter.
VOIGHT: I`m sure he does.
ANDERSON: You love your daughter.
VOIGHT: I`m sure he wants to see her.
ANDERSON: And you have wanted to see yours. If you could give a words of advice or comfort?
VOIGHT: I don`t know if I can give him words of advice or comfort. He`s in a bit of a spot where it seems that there`s -- my view of it seems that the child is being used in a way that is not so proper. And I just wish -- I wish there is healing and I feel that he`s very sincerely a loving dad and wants to be with his kids.
ANDERSON: He seems genuinely sorry. And you both have it in common, you want to see your family.
VOIGHT: Listen, if you can`t see your child, there`s nothing that makes you more angry than somebody keeping the child from you.
ANDERSON: How is your situation?
VOIGHT: How is your situation?
ANDERSON: No one cares about me, Jon, we want to know about you.
VOIGHT: Let`s talk about Brooke.
ANDERSON: I can`t speak from a parents` perspective. I hope to one day.
VOIGHT: I hope you do, too. The greatest thing to have children.
ANDERSON: And how is your situation.
VOIGHT: I don`t talk -- I send my daughter my love and certainly my prayers. And she does a lot of wonderful things on behalf of other people. I`m impressed with that aspect of her life and I always wish her well with Brad and their child and their children, I wish them well, too.
ANDERSON: Jon, in this movie you play a fanatic Mormon leader. It was hard for me to watch at times. "September Dawn."
VOIGHT: Yep.
ANDERSON: And you have said that this movie has parallels to 9/11 and what we`re experiencing today. Why do you say that?
VOIGHT: First of all, the movie - well, it is about a group of religious fanatics who use their religion as a rationale for murder.
And the way the thinking produces that result is the subject of the film. And the irony of the film -- I got the film. I read it. I was shocked. I didn`t know this was part of our history. And then I went to look at all the background, and it`s a very, very well documented true event in history. And the ironic thing, it`s 150 years ago this year on September 11th.
ANDERSON: Yes.
VOIGHT: So as if I was not - you know, able to put together the reference to today and understand its relevance, that should have been a signal perhaps.
ANDERSON: Well, while you`ve been promoting this movie, you`ve made it a point to let everyone know that you do support the U.S. fighting in Iraq. Now, I know in Hollywood, you`re in the minority. Is it difficult for you?
VOIGHT: Well, you know, I think that there are a lot of people in Hollywood that probably share my point of view but they`re a little afraid because inroads -- the left has become very extreme and it`s made deep inroads. And you don`t know who you are talking to and stuff like that.
With myself, I have to say maybe I`m a little older now, and if I`m going to speak out, I`d better speak out now. And perhaps I`m in a position where it can`t hurt me that much. So perhaps it`s up to me so say some of the things that are on other people`s minds.

ANDERSON: He`s very passionate about his politics, his beliefs. And you have to hand it to him for not being afraid to speak out. Jon Voight`s new movie, "September Dawn" opens on June 27th in select theaters.
Alec Baldwin says he`s sorry, again. Baldwin has made another apology for his blistering voice mail to his daughter, but is it sincere? That`s the question we`re asking. That`s at 31 minutes past the hour.

VARGAS: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT", TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. One of the strangest stories that broke this week. Richard Here in trouble with the law in India, because he kissed a Bollywood star. And now, Gere is apologizing. This all started at an AIDS awareness event, where Gere hugged and kissed an Indian actress. He says the embrace was a failed parody of a move from his movie "Shall We Dance." But what he may not have known is that public displays of affection there are largely taboo.
Well, then all hell broke loose. There were public protests, where some demonstrators even burned Gere in effigy. And if that wasn`t enough, a judge in India issued a warrant for Gere`s arrest for violating obscenity laws. If he`s convicted, he could face a fine or even up to three months in prison. Now today, Gere said in a statement that it was never his intention to offend anyone, but, quote, "If that has happened, of course it is easy for me to offer a sincere apology."
Oh, and for the record, legal experts in India are saying the arrest warrant is ridiculous and that the judge is just trying to get publicity.
ANDERSON: Alec Baldwin is saying he`s sorry, again. Baldwin has made another apology for his blistering voicemail to his 11-year-old daughter. But is it sincere? That`s the question everybody wants answered. And that`s next. We`ll also have this .

VIRGNIA CHA, CNN HN ANCHOR: Hi. I`m Virginia Cha with your "Headline Prime" newsbreak. New Your State police say a trooper who was fatally shot earlier this week was killed by friendly fire. Now, police initially believe he`d been killed by an escaped convict when troopers stormed the house where the convict was hiding. They say trooper David Brinkerhoff died from a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Now they`re not sure whether the fatal bullet was a direct hit or a ricochet.
In another friendly fire incident, a House panel is asking the White House and Pentagon for documents relating to Army Ranger Pat Tillman`s death. Lawmakers want to know how and when the Bush administration learned about it. The former NFL star was killed in Afghanistan in April 2004 but the truth about his death wasn`t revealed until five weeks later.
And liveleak.com has published never before seen video of Private Jessica Lynch`s rescue from an American hospital. It shows Lynch with the U.S. soldiers who helped her escape. That`s the news for now. Thanks for joining us. I`m Virginia Cha.

ANDERSON: Of course I do. And I also wonder, Sibila, what kind of message does that send to the rest of us.

ANDERSON: That`s coming in the SHOWBIZ "Weight Watch."
And, rock stars and their wives. Yeah, you probably think no chance of those marriages working. But you`d be surprised. Straight ahead, I`ve got the secrets to how music`s biggest stars are making their relationships work.
But first, Alec apologizes. As I told you earlier, after a week of relentless criticism over his outrageous voicemail rant towards his 11- year-old daughter, Ireland, Alec Baldwin went on "The View" today to say he`s sorry. He`s also shockingly revealed that he wants to leave Hollywood and work for the rights of divorced parents to see their kids.
So is Alec`s sorry sincere? With me tonight in New York is former New York district attorney and family court judge Jeanine Pirro.
And in Hollywood tonight, investigate Pat Lalama.
Jeanine, Pat, welcome.

ANDERSON: All right. Before we get started, I want to take a listen to some of what Alec said today on "The View."

ANDERSON: OK, Jeanine he blamed his ex-wife. He blamed the media for making it public. Is it me, or did he not blame himself at all for issues he may have that caused him to lash out at his daughter?
JEANINE PIRRO, FORMER WESTCHESTER CO., N.Y., D.A.: Well, I think he took responsibility. And I watched that - I watched the show. He clearly is, I think, devastated over this.
And - and let`s start at the beginning. Everyone agrees that it was inappropriate. It was outrageous.
ANDERSON: Right.
PIRRO: But what he`s saying is, `Put it in context. I`m suffering from parental alienation. I spent two weeks, two great weeks with my daughter. And then for the next 10 days, the phone is turned off.`
And when you peel back the layers of the onion, Brooke, what you have is someone who has 12 contempt charges against the mother for doing this very thing. And what we`ve got to do is make sure that the courts work for these couples in difficult situations, so that at the end of the day the child is the one who at least some normality.
ANDERSON: Yes, you`re right about that. And - and he seemed very frustrated about the situation he`s found himself in.
Pat, some though may have looked at him on `The View` and said, `I don`t know. He kind of looks like he was acting, that this was a script.`
Do you think he was sincere?
PAT LALAMA, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Well, here`s an answer for you, and it comes for a lot of different angles. I remember when he was on trial for allegedly punching the paparazzo who took his picture - his baby`s picture.
ANDERSON: Right.
LALAMA: We all remember that.
ANDERSON: Mm-hmm.
LALAMA: Now when he was in the courtroom at counsel table, he played to the jury. And I remember sitting back and going, `Dang, this guy really knows how to play - you know, the smile. He`s handsome.` And he would look at the jury and go - like, `Me.` And he was great at it.
But the fact of the matter is, he`s a great actor. And he can also be a sincere father.
I happen to believe he - if he could possibly take this back, he would take it back. And I got to tell you something: unless you`ve experienced what it`s like, both as a child and as an adult to be in the middle of this kind of contentious.
ANDERSON: Right.
LALAMA: .and just angry stuff, it is bad. And I think he was driven to a breakdown point.
ANDERSON: And he has said that. He`s said, `You don`t know what I`ve experienced..
LALAMA: Yes.
ANDERSON: .with parental alienation unless you`ve gone through it.`
LALAMA: Absolutely.
ANDERSON: He said he doesn`t wish that upon anybody.
LALAMA: And he`s more vocal than Kim. He`s more out there.
ANDERSON: Yes, he is.
Well, speaking of Kim, Jeanine, he accused his ex-wife, Kim, of alienating him from his daughter. But not only him, he accused her of alienating her from other family members.
You know, to me, did he have to go there? It - it seemed like an attack on Kim, when this is really about him.
PIRRO: Well, you know, I`m not so sure about that.
You know, as a - as a judge, one of the first things I would do in this case, Brooke, is I would put Kim under oath and find out if she is the one who is responsible.
LALAMA: Yes.
PIRRO: .for the release of that tape. And I`ll tell you why. Because if indeed she is, because of this bitter struggle that`s going on, what she has done is she has subject this 11-year-old girl to public ridicule.
LALAMA: Yes.
PIRRO: You don`t think the friends in her class are saying, `You`re a rude little pig. You`re a rude little pig, Ireland.`
And the second thing I would do is make sure that every part of that case is sealed so that this is not subject to public discussion.
And third and final point, when you look at Kim`s statement she says, `I didn`t release it, but it wasn`t seal.` Translation: even if I did, it was OK. And she takes the opportunity to say, `I hope he addresses his unstable personality.`
There`s a lot of shots in this thing.
LALAMA: Yes.
PIRRO: And you got to read between the lines here.
ANDERSON: A lot of lashing out.
Pat, what do you think? Do you think this act of contrition on Alec`s part could play in his favor in the custody battle?
LALAMA: Yes.
And first let me say, Jeanine, it`s so on the money. Girl, I am with you.
PIRRO: Thanks, Pat.
LALAMA: I mean, you know, it`s - it`s - I`m not taking sides in this case, and I don`t think Jeanine is, either.
PIRRO: No.
LALAMA: I - I just think, if we`re not hearing the whole story - and let me tell you why I think there`s a chess game going on here. Jeanine mentioned the contempt of court charges. Well, she went into court and tried to get those charges dropped. The commissioner said, `Nope, sorry, they stand.`
So then - now, because it`s a civil case, it`s up to Alec pursue it.
Here`s what I think happened: I think now in the wake of the release of this tape, he looks like such a bad guy that - that maybe he`ll not pursue it, and then she - and then they can go, `OK, goodbye, we`re over with this.`
It`s really - it`s bad.
PIRRO: You know why you can`t do it, Pat? That`s a - that`s a good observation. But he can`t do it because that puts in the context the parental alienation issue - `That she has done it so many times, she has separated me from Ireland so many times, we must pursue it, Pat.`

VARGAS: Now it`s time for the SHOWBIZ "Weight Watch." SHOWBIZ TONIGHT covers Hollywood`s obsession with body image like no other entertainment news show.
Tonight, Hollywood`s most amazing disappearing acts. We`re not talking about magic here. These are the stars whose bodies disappear right before our very eyes in a very short amount of time. Whether it`s a celebrity shedding pounds for a particular role or simply because of a personal choice, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the secrets of the rapidly shrinking stars.
The who, the what, the how and the why.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
VARGAS (voice-over): We`re used to seeing our stars explode onto the big and small screens. But when their body, not their body of work, disappears right before our very eyes, we begin to wonder what kind of work they`re doing to their eyes.
DOBSON: When people seeing celebrities losing weight losing so incredibly quickly, and losing so much weight, it really sets unrealistic expectations for the rest of us.
VARGAS: But not all celebrities drop the weight for their health. Sometimes it`s for their healthy career.
DOBSON: Christian Bale normally weighs 185 pounds. And he lost more than 60 pounds for his role in the movie "The Machinist."
VARGAS: And sometimes the celebs shrink down so fast SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is asking what they did, how they did it, and if it`s safe.
FELICIA STOLER, "HONEY, WE`RE KILLING THE KIDS": It`s never safe to lose a large amount of weight quickly.
VARGAS: Courtney Love shocked the world when she recently unveiled her bikini-clad body, or lack thereof.
DOBSON: Courtney Love has everyone talking. She recently lost 44 pounds. She says she lost it in just four months. And not only that, but she says she wants to lose another six to 11 pounds.
STOLER: I would say that if Courtney`s going to lose any more weight, she`s going to start looking anorexic.
VARGAS: But what would drive any celebrity to shed so many pounds so fast?
DOBSON: Courtney Love says one of the reasons she lost so much weight was she fell in love with a pair of designer pants. So after she lost the weight, she was seen on the red carpet wearing them, and she said, `They`re designer, they`re straight of the runway, and they`re sample size.`
VARGAS: Some really wonder whether Love lost the weight through diet and exercise as she claims, or if she had some type of gastric surgery.
STOLER: The truth is, if you`ve had the surgery, admit it. Plenty of people have had it. It`s not the - it`s not brand new that people are having this type of surgery.
VARGAS: The surgery question is one that`s dogged former "View" co- host Star Jones ever since her dramatic weight loss.
DOBSON: When Star Jones lost a lot of weight, everyone believed it was surgery, and she denied it.
LARRY KING, CNN HOST: Did you ever consider, like, surgery?
STAR JONES REYNOLDS, TV PERSONALITY: I considered it all. And I - that`s when I went to my doctors.
KING: And what did you do?
REYNOLDS: The whole world wants to know that now.
VARGAS: We do want to know want to know, Star. Just tell us how you did it. Who knows? You might inspire someone.
STOLER: If you have had it, people need to know that you`ve done it. Because it`s better for people to understand how to lose weight in an - in an appropriate manner.
VARGAS: Then there are the stars whose bodies disappear for that movie role they so desperately want.
When Beyonce scored a leading role in the hit movie "Dreamgirls," she also took some extreme measures to make sure she fit into her character`s shoes.
DOBSON: Beyonce lost 20 pounds for her role in "Dreamgirls," and she said she wanted her character to go through a total transformation from the early years to the later years.
STOLER: Well, Beyonce, has acknowledged that she did the master cleanse diet, which she has told people that she did, but she does not recommend that others do it as well. And it`s like a water diet. And it`s really unhealthy and it`s unsafe to do.
DOBSON: It sounds really disgusting.
VARGAS: One celeb who`s gone from soft and chunky to hard and funky is Janet.
DOBSON: Janet Jackson lost an incredible amount of weight over just a few months. And she says it was because she had gained a lot of weight because she was auditioning for a movie for which she needed to be heavy.
VARGAS: Janet revealed the secret to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
JANET JACKSON, ENTERTAINER: How? Eating everything I wanted when I wanted. Ooh, that sounds good.
VARGAS: So why are we so obsessed by celebrities` incredibly shrinking bodies and they do it?
STOLER: When we look at their struggles with weight loss, we want to relate that.
DOBSON: Celebrities definitely have an inside track on losing weight fast. But celebrities will use different diet pills, or they`ll use pills that are meant for horses.
(HORSE NEIGHING)
STOLER: I think the lesson that can be learned from the stars is they`re - they`re people, too, and they have the same type of struggle that everybody else has with weight loss and weight gain.
VARGAS: And as long as these stars keep disappearing so quickly before our very eyes, we`ll keep watching and wonder, because.
DOBSON: What really makes these disappearing acts so amazing is not just that celebrities lose tons of weight, but that they lose it so quickly.

VARGAS: And don`t stress when you see stars lose all that weight very fast. After all, you got to remember, they have trainers and personal chefs who prepare their meals.
ANDERSON: Great point, Sibila.

VARGAS: Not necessarily. What`s that saying? Sex, drugs, rock `n` roll?
ANDERSON: That`s it.

Time now for a story that made us say, "That`s Ridiculous!"
Oh deer! A couple of deers went through an open door at a Pennsylvania retirement home. They ran all over the place, and kind of scared the employees and the residents. One broke through a window and ran away. The other was shown the door.
Now I don`t know; maybe the deer sat by to win some "doe" at bingo? Or wanted to pop in for an early dinner with his "antler"?
OK. We can joke around, even if they`re bad jokes, because no one was hurt.
But we still got to say, "That`s Ridiculous!"
ANDERSON: Now, "Making It Work," SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s continuing coverage of stars who make their relationships work in Hollywood and beyond.
Tonight, we`ve just got to ask: how do rock star couples make it work? I mean, with all the groupies and the partying, what are the secrets to making these rock star relationships solid as a rock?
With me in New York, developmental psychologist and syndicated radio host Cooper Lawrence.
Cooper, great to see you.
COOPER LAWRENCE, DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGIST: Great to see you, Brooke.
ANDERSON: All right. Our first couple, award-winning singer Seal and his beautiful model wife Heidi Klum. I`ve spoken to these two numerous times, and they are always beaming with love, speaking so highly of one another.
What`s their secret?
LAWRENCE: I think the fact that they both respect each other, because they both are at the - they`re at the pinnacle of their careers. I mean, Seal - it`s Seal. So who else could be with Seal but a Heidi Klum? You have to be Heidi Klum to be with Seal.
Because the idea of being a rock star is you`re up there, there`s 80,000 people watching you. It`s sexy. So you got to have a really sexy wife.
And I think he does.
ANDERSON: So there`s no competition then.
(CROSSTALK)
ANDERSON: Because they`re independently successful.
LAWRENCE: Exactly.
ANDERSON: Great point.
OK, Gene Simmons and his girlfriend actually, ex-"Playboy" model Shannon Tweed. You know, these two have been together for years and years, have kids, but they`ve never married.
Is that part of what makes it work for them?
LAWRENCE: For them, I think that`s absolutely what makes it work. Because it`s the idea that - you know, the - once the commitment is there for some people, it changes everything. Once they - they took that away. So they`re parents together, but they`re not husband and wife. So the stress is off.
And there`s always that sort of, like, Hmm, I wonder where this relationship`s going. Even though it`s been - what? - 20-something years. You still wonder. I hope it still works, you know?
ANDERSON: So it is a mental thing for some people to sign that marriage certificate?
LAWRENCE: Absolutely.
ANDERSON: OK.
LAWRENCE: There`s something about the complacency of that for a lot of people that as soon that happens they go, `Uh-oh.` So there`s no "uh-oh" in their relationship.
ANDERSON: Well, there you have it, Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed.
OK, now we`ve got Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. You know, they`re rarely photographed together. They never hit the red carpet together.
Is this a strategy do you think to make a relationship work?
(CROSSTALK)
LAWRENCE: I think for her. Because, number one, she was with Brad Pitt. There were paparazzi everywhere.
ANDERSON: Everywhere.
LAWRENCE: And it`s very different to be with a rock star than to be with an actor. Because, see, rock stars, they don`t have to follow the system. They could shy as a wallflower. They could be drug addicts. It`s - we still like them.
ANDERSON: Rebel in whatever way they want to. Exactly.
LAWRENCE: Exactly. And it`s still cool.
ANDERSON: As long as they can sing and play music.
LAWRENCE: Right. An actor can`t get away with it. And for - for someone like Gwyneth, who has just been, like, hounded by paparazzi, how nice for her to actually have a husband and a family and a life.
ANDERSON: Yes. Exactly.
You know, why in general do these relationships work? Because many times, you do see a gorgeous, leggy supermodel, and then you see a rock star, and a lot of times they seem so mismatched.
LAWRENCE: Right.
Well, you`re talking about couples that - I think they both got to the pinnacle of their careers separately. So by the time they got together, it was like, "I`m ready. Me, too. You - you and I pretty much equals.`
And there`s no competition. And there`s not one person trying to make their career happen, and the other person is there and famous. They`re both very famous. Let`s - let`s move on past that. What`s the next challenge?
Well, the next challenge - let`s make a relationship work. That`s a huge challenge for some people.
ANDERSON: Focus on that.
LAWRENCE: Yes, and it`s exciting.
ANDERSON: Yes, it is exciting.
Next couple - very exciting couple - David Bowie and his wife, Iman. Now these are two very successful people in their own right. Seems like they waited a little bit later in life to get together, get married. Maybe - is it a maturity thing?
LAWRENCE: That`s it with them. Absolutely. It seems like it, right?
Because first of all, they`re a fantastic couple. Every time we see them together, they just make you smile because you just - the body language. They`re just obviously so into each other.
But they both waited until they were little older. And the same thing like I was just saying, you get to the point where you`re just ready.
ANDERSON: Yes.
LAWRENCE: And then you turn to the person next to you and you go, `Wow, you`re ready, too? Well, let`s do this.`
ANDERSON: If you could give them advice, what would you say?
LAWRENCE: Have lots of kids, because you`re a great role model for a kid.
And - and that`s thing, because a lot of these people, we don`t know that much about them. But they`re great role models. So maybe we should know more about the better role models, and stop hearing about the people that keep screwing up.
ANDERSON: Hmm, good point.
LAWRENCE: Mm-hmm.
ANDERSON: Developmental psychologist Cooper Lawrence, as always, thank you for your insight.
LAWRENCE: Thanks, Brooke.
