THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
A. J. HAMMER, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: A book that will probably never make Oprah`s book club, written by her father. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
BROOKE ANDERSON, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: And why are some of O.J. Simpson`s clothes for sale? I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.
HAMMER: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the transformation of Brangelina. The one-time wild child and Hollywood hunk are now bonafide Hollywood royalty, with big movies in the works and a major change in the works for Angelina. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT looks at how Brad and Angelina have become the king and queen of celebrities.
Has Paris Hilton found her higher power? Just two weeks before she reports to jail, is Paris getting help from God? Forget the good book. Does she have her own book deal in the works for a jail diary? Tonight SHOWBIZ TONIGHT throws the book at Paris.
Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
ANDERSON: Hi there everyone, I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.
HAMMER: Brooke, this is truly unbelievable. In the beginning, of course, God created man and he saw it was good. And then he created Paris and, well, you know the rest. Coming up, is Paris` turn to prayer just a ploy for public sympathy? And that`s on the way.
But first tonight, all that noise you might be hearing from across the Atlantic is all the buzzing over Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie over there at the Cannes Film Festival. But there`s big news tonight. Angelina is thinking of leaving Hollywood behind to take care of her family.
ANDERSON: That`s right, A.J. But don`t worry, it`s not for long. You know, Pitt and Jolie have spent most of their time lately adopting children, giving birth and talking about various humanitarian causes. But as they become the big deal at the Cannes Film Festival in France, they`re showing even if Angelina decides to take a break, they still have star power to spare.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
ANDERSON (voice-over): We have seen them as tabloid fodder, international do-gooders and serial child adopters. But at the Cannes Film Festival, we`re seeing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in a way we hardly see them anymore, as glamorous, true blue movie stars.
AMY ARGETSINGER, "THE WASHINGTON POST": Brad and Angelina show up in Cannes and it`s like they`re bringing this much need dose of glamour to this dumpy little seaside film festival.
ANDERSON: All joking aside, Brad and Angelina are making it clear with their splashy appearance at Cannes, they`re Hollywood`s number one undisputed it couple.
ARGETSINGER: You see them and it`s like back to Liz Taylor and Richard Burton showing up somewhere. It`s like that though. They were the Brangelina of 1963.
ANDERSON: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT brings you the very latest on the international storm we`re seeing as Brangelina drops jaws in Cannes and reminds us why we all started talking about them in the first place.
ARGETSINGER: It`s interesting to see them on an actual red carpet. We were sort of forgetting what it was that they are stupendously famous for, making movies.
ANDERSON: Not that you should get used to scenes like this. Here`s what`s new tonight: Angelina Jolie tells "People Magazine" that she will soon be taking a year off, away from all this, to spend time with her growing family. But for now, Brangelina is front and center, and Brad Pitt tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT the throngs of the media aren`t bothering him.
BRAD PITT, ACTOR: It`s a bit of a triumph to come to Cannes. It`s the pinnacle of the festivals.
ANDERSON: But Brad and his Oscar-winning companion are not at the ritzy film festival just to look pretty. They`re both promoting new movies. Pitt is in "Ocean`s 13."
PITT: Let me tell you what you don`t want, your hotel in a twisted heap of steal and glass.
ANDERSON: And Angelina Jolie is starring in the more serious film "A Mighty Heart."
ANGELINA JOLIE, ACTRESS: He had an interview and he`s not back. HE didn`t come home last night.
ANDERSON: It`s the true story of Mariane Pearl, the widow of "Wall Street Journal" reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and beheaded by Islamic militants in Pakistan in 2002. Pitt is producing the movie and the "Washington Post`s" Amy Argetsinger says even this serious film couldn`t escape the sometimes tawdry Brangelina rumor mill.
ARGETSINGER: This is a project that originally belonged to Brad and Jennifer Aniston when they were married and they had a production company together. And so the word that Angelina would be starring in this movie, which apparently Brad got in the divorce, there was this immediate buzz of, ooh, Angelina is stealing Jen`s Oscar role.
ANDERSON: But now Pitt and Jolie are using their star power to promote their labor of love. And with the real Mariane Pearl at their side in France, Jolie is praising the woman who inspired her latest role.
JOLIE: I highly doubt there is anybody in this room who has more reason to hold hate inside herself than Mariane, and she doesn`t. She is a very compassionate, thoughtful person.
ANDERSON: But Brangelina`s glamorous reemergence at Cannes is doing more than promoting "A Mighty Heart." It`s also promoting the couple themselves, who have seen their share of negative stories.
DAVID CAPLAN, CELEBRITY JOURNALIST: There have been so many nasty stories written in the past few months. Everyone knows everything about their personal life that now is the time for them to be like, hey, we`re going to return to our roots. We want to be perceived by the public as just actors.
ANDERSON: As they set the world talking, Brangelina is once again showing us that they`re not just actors or even tabloid topics. They are, in a classic sense of the word, stars.
CAPLAN: The golden age of Hollywood is coming back and you see it with Brad and Angelina.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
ANDERSON: Now, there is tons of hype surrounding Angelina`s movie "A Mighty Heart." But is it any good? At 42 past the hour we`re going to get a first review from "People Magazine" film critic Leah Rozen.
HAMMER: Well, tonight SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is exclaiming Holy Hilton. With just two weeks to go in the Paris Hilton countdown to lockdown, the embattled heiress may be turning to a higher power for help. She was spotted leaving her home toting a Bible and the non-fiction best seller "The Power of Now." Could this all be a sign that she`s in fact turning over a new leaf or is it all just a publicity stunt.
Joining me tonight from Los Angeles celebrity publicist Howard Bragman of 15 Minutes PR, and also from L.A. investigative journalist Jane Velez- Mitchell. She`s the author of the upcoming book "Secrets Can Be Murder," in stores this summer. Howard, Jane, it`s a pleasure to see you both.
Now, most of us are just glad to know that Paris owns a book and that she, in fact, can read, even though she never read the ticket that got her into trouble in the first place. But I have to say, when I saw this shot of her walking with the Bible in her hand, my first thought was, you have got to be kidding with me. Jane, the cynic in me, and I try not to be too cynical, but it makes me think it`s another publicity ploy from Paris, which is really tough to say. Do you think she`s playing up to the cameras here?
JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: I`m trying not to be cynical too, A.J., but I can`t help it. This obviously is staged. Who walks out of their house with two books where you can read both titles perfectly, not just one title, or one and a half titles, but both titles are clearly visible. This is a girl who knows how to play to the camera. She`s done it all her life. She has publicists. She knows public sentiment has turned against to the tune of in the 90th percentile anti- Paris. She`s trying to do something about it and this is her method.
Now, that doesn`t mean that she`s not actually reading those books. I certainly hope she is.
HAMMER: Hey, Chris, can you put that shot up once again, because, as Jane just said, she`s very savvy when it comes to the paparazzi. She knows they`re always going to be nearby. They`re waiting to get that big money shot, to get it in the papers, get it on TV, just like this one. Howard, take a look at how she`s holding those books. It`s unbelievable to me! It`s obvious that she`s holding those up for the cameras and obviously a shot like this is very easy to set up. Do you think it`s a strategy to mend her image, Howard, or are you not as cynical as we are?
HOWARD BRAGMAN, 15 MINUTES PR: Well, first of all, Paris does know how to accessorize, doesn`t she? Let`s start with that. I`ve said all along that the real tragedy of this would be if Paris didn`t get a little enlightenment out of this. I talked to people close to her and I believe that Paris has really realized that things have to change, and she`s really going to use this as an opportunity. So I`m not quite as cynical. We always say Paris is a bad role model. She`s carrying books around. She`s carrying books that can enlighten and help people. You go on Amazon and the books are selling, so she is a role model and people are buying the books whatever she does.
HAMMER: Howard, thank you for bringing such positivity to our program, really. You`re doing a tremendous service, just like you think Paris is. Let`s talk about that other book, "The Power of Now," which we mentioned, which we saw in the picture. This is essentially a book about overcoming depression. We`re talking about a woman here who finds her degree of self-help on Rodeo Drive or out in the clubs. Jane, I know you`ve read this book. What could Paris possibly learn from this?
MITCHELL: Well, actually, this is the perfect book for Paris to be reading right now. It`s all about living in the moment. And the basic premise is all we have is this moment. So don`t fret about the past or worry about the future. Try to live in the now. What could be better for a young lady facing the prospect of going to jail for 20 some days? Stay in the now. Don`t worry about what might happen in jail. And don`t worry about what you did to land you in jail.
You can have the moment now and you can make changes in your life right now. And it also allows you the God shot, where you look down on your problems from a higher perspective and you put your problems in context and in perspective, so they don`t seem so big. It`s a very, very powerful book, and it has a great message for Paris. I hope she takes it to heart.
HAMMER: I don`t know why it`s making my head hurt just hearing about it. But what she might do in jail, if she pays attention, is we are hearing she might be writing a diary, a jail house diary, Howard. Now I`m thinking if she`s trying to rehabilitate her image, maybe this would back fire, because obviously she has the right to write a book. This is America. But people already think of this woman as an opportunist. She might be profiting from what ultimately was a DUI, Howard, which I think is pretty disgusting.
BRAGMAN: What I said to Paris`s mother once is Paris could save a bus full of school children from going over a cliff and somebody is going to find something to criticize her for. I think she might write something in jail. This is a business that has to keep generating revenues. You can`t take 23 days off. But I think we`ve got to give people a chance. People can change. She`s a young woman. She`s gone through a lot. Maybe this is her moment. Maybe she`s accepted it and maybe I`m wrong. I`m just a happy optimist. I`m a publicist. What do you want.
HAMMER: Yes, you are a happy optimist and you get paid handsomely for it. Howard Bragman of 15 Minutes PR, investigative journalist Jane Velez- Mitchell, I thank you both for being here tonight.
Now we want to hear from you for our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Paris Hilton, would you read her jail diary? You can vote at CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT. You want to e-mail us? The address is SHOWBIZTONIGHT@CNN.com.
ANDERSON: So, A.J., speaking of Paris` jail diary, if she were to write one, tell the truth, would you read it?
HAMMER: Not a single page unless we were doing it for the purposes of this particular program.
ANDERSON: Research purposes only. Well, listen to this: there is even more Paris in our near future. "The Simple Life" is coming back.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Those two are going to drive me to drinking.
NICOLE RICHIE, "THE SIMPLE LIFE": We`re tough bitches.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ANDERSON: Hopefully tough enough to survive your upcoming jail sentence, right Paris. The new season is about to get under way and we have your first look straight ahead. I know you`re excited about that, A.J.
HAMMER: I`m so excited. You can`t see me right now, but I`m dancing. Also ahead, are O.J. Simpson`s clothes really up for sale? Why would that possibly be true? Well this is a story that made me pretty mad and you`ll probably have the same reaction.
ANDERSON: Also, I`m looking forward to seeing this, Michael Moore`s new documentary "Sicko," highly anticipated. And the controversy already heating up over Moore taking on health care. That`s next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Yes, it`s time for another story that made us say, that`s ridiculous. It`s about O.J. Simpson`s suit, and for the first time, I think, we`re not talking about a lawsuit. We`re talking about an actual suit; a shirt and tie he wore when he was acquitted of murder. Yes, there`s actually a sports memorabilia dealer that tells TMZ that he wants to sell it for 25,000 dollars.
Now, it`s not exactly clear how this guy got ahold of it. But one thing is clear, we all think it`s in poor taste to try to make money off of it. In poor taste and, yes, I will say, that`s ridiculous.
ANDERSON: And now we`re off to the Cannes Film Festival in France, where Michael Moore has unveiled his new documentary, "Sicko." It takes aim at the health care industry in the United States, and even before the movie hit theaters here in June, Moore could already be in some trouble with the government.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Even with insurance, there`s bound to be a bill.
ANDERSON (voice-over): Michael Moore says he didn`t believe "Sicko" would create as much of a stir as his previous films. For one thing, he personally appears much less in this film about the American health care system.
MICHAEL MOORE, DOCUMENTARY FILM MAKER: I really thought, finally I`m going to have a movie that`s not going to be controversial. And I can have a little rest. You know, it`s about health care. It affects everybody, regardless of their political stripe.
ANDERSON: But as things are turning out, that`s not exactly the case. It seems wherever Michael Moore goes, controversy is sure to follow.
MOORE: Members of Congress, this is Michael Moore. I would like to read to you the USA Patriot Act.
ANDERSON: The provocative film maker riled conservatives in "Fahrenheit 9/11."
MOORE: I want the account where I can get the free gun.
ANDERSON: And so did his targeting of the National Rifle Association and the gun culture in "Bowling For Columbine." Now his target is the U.S. health care system.
MOORE: This is Rick.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I was ripping a piece of wood and grabbed it here. And I hit a knot.
MOORE: The hospital gave him a choice, reattach the middle finger for 60,000 dollars or do the ring finger for 12,000. Being the hopeless romantic, Rick chose the ring finger for the bargain price of 12 grand.
ANDERSON: A lot of the controversy surrounded Moore as he premiered "Sicko" at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend is because he`s under investigation in the United States for shooting part of it in Cuba. Moore says he took ailing 9/11 rescue workers there in March to make a point.
MOORE: The point was not to go to Cuba but was to go to America, to go to American soil, to Guantanamo Bay and take the 9/11 rescue workers there to receive the same health care that they`re giving the al Qaeda detainees.
ANDERSON: Nevertheless, Moore and the 9/11 rescuers ended up on Castro`s side of Cuba. And now the Treasury Department is investigating whether the trip violated the trade embargo against that country. Moore asserts he broke no laws.
MOORE: I made a documentary. That`s a work of journalism. The law says that journalists can go to Cuba. You don`t need permission. You don`t need a license or anything.
ANDERSON: From the French Riviera, Moore had a message for officials back home.
MOORE: I`m going back there tomorrow. I`m going to fight this and they`re not going to get away with it.
ANDERSON: Apart from Cuba, Moore shot footage for "Sicko" in Canada and Europe, attempting to send the message that America`s health care system is driven more by greed than concern about people`s well-being. In Britain, he visited a government-funded hospital.
MOORE: What did they charge you for that baby?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, no, everything`s on them. It`s not America.
MOORE: "Sicko" is scheduled to open in the United States on June 29th. Moore predicts audiences will find it to their liking.
MOORE: I want to guarantee that when people go to see my movie, they`re going to have a great time. It is going to be entertaining and it will be over before you know it, painless and you`ll leave the theater wanting to go shut down an HMO.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
ANDERSON: And Moore has until next week to officially respond to that Treasury Department investigation.
All right, anybody who`s ever gone through a break-up knows how painful it can be when your ex moves on. Well imagine if your ex is Kevin Federline and his new girlfriend is Britney Spears. That`s what happened to a very pregnant Shar Jackson, who had to hold her head high as every detail of K-Fed and Britney`s new relationship unfolded in the tabloids and on TV.
I sat down with Shar today and asked her how in the world she dealt with that and what she thinks of Britney.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP
SHAR JACKSON, EX-GIRLFRIEND OF KEVIN FEDERLINE: Honestly, I don`t know her that well. I mean, I know her enough that when she was around everything, hey, how are you doing. I kept everything very, very nice. She was a nice girl when I did spend time with her. But we really didn`t - - like we didn`t go out for tea or anything. Just -- I mean, there`s only so much. I`m human too. So there`s only so much that you really want to put yourself -- you know, a position you want to put yourself in.
But we`re really nice to each other when we do see each other. That`s fine. That`s pretty much -- we don`t need to be BFFs or go get bracelets.
ANDERSON: Speaking of being friends, you and Kevin seem to be friends. You helped celebrate his birthday. Are you there to support him as he`s going through another difficult time?
JACKSON: You know, before we were romantically linked, we were friends. And luckily we have that foundation and we`re going to be friends forever. You know what I mean? I love that guy. At the end of the day, I love him. He`s one of my best friends in the world. OK, our relationship didn`t work out. Obviously, that`s not what we were supposed to be, but we`re still in each other`s lives and we`re still the best of friends. If he needs to talk to me, call me. I`ll listen for a minute.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ANDERSON: Shar`s got a great outlook and she is helping other women and men mend a broken heart and get back on their feet after a difficult break-up in the new reality show called ex-wives club on ABC. It debuts Monday on ABC.
HAMMER: Well Brooke, you know when Oprah picks a book for her book club, it`s an instant best-seller. But what do you think happens when she does not like the idea of a book? Well, her father may soon find out. Coming up, the book that he`s writing that she didn`t even know about. We`ll also have this --
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Those two are going to drive me to drinking.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re tough bitches.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ANDERSON: Hopefully tough enough to survive your upcoming jail sentence, right Paris? It`s the return of "The Simple Life." We have your first look at the new season, straight ahead.
HAMMER: And also ahead, the cat in the mat. It`s a surprise guest on the field at Shea Stadium. That`s coming up in the SHOWBIZ Video of the Day on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, which is coming right back.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
ANDERSON: Oprah Winfrey`s dad is writing a book. But it looks like Oprah won`t be adding it to her book club anytime soon. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has confirmed that Vernon Winfrey is writing a book about Oprah`s life and never even told her about it, the book that is. The "New York Daily News" ran a story saying Oprah was shocked when someone from the newspaper called to say they heard her dad was writing a book. But low and behold, it`s true.
Harpo told SHOWBIZ TONIGHT today that Oprah wasn`t aware he was writing it, and wishes he would have told her in advance. Oprah left her mother`s home in Milwaukee when she was 14 and pregnant and went to live with her father in Nashville. The "Daily News" quotes Oprah as saying she has a good relationship with her dad, but he`s the last person in the world who should be doing a book about her.
HAMMER: Well Brooke, I was surprised today to hear that Keith Urban told a crowd of people that he drank some wine, especially after his well- publicized stint in rehab.
ANDERSON: He did?
HAMMER: Yes, but it turns out there`s a perfectly good explanation for all this. And that`s still to come on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. We`ll also have this --
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Those two are going to drive me to drinking.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re tough bitches.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ANDERSON: Tough enough to survive your upcoming jail sentence, hopefully, right Paris? Ah yes, the return of "The Simple Life." The new season is about to get underway. We have your first look. Plus, Paris makes a list of billionaire heiresses. But I was shocked to see who else is on the list. We`ve got that straight ahead.
HAMMER: And star hookups. You know, they happen all the time, but what can you learn from them so you can help your own relationship. It is possible for you to look to the stars, from Denise Richards dating her best friend`s husband, to Brad and Angelina getting together after working together. We know that goes on all the time. Lessons in love from star couples. That`s coming up. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT coming right back.
(NEWS BREAK)
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
ANDERSON: And I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. You are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.
Well, A.J., with all the Hollywood break-ups, the stunning scandals, there are actually some things we can learn from all of this hopefully.
HAMMER: Like there`s a little silver ling to all of their drama, I guess.
ANDERSON: Yes, there are. Because of that, straight ahead, big stars with some big love lessons, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Christie Brinkley, Denise Richards and more. We`ve got them.
HAMMER: And Brooke, we know that Paris Hilton is a billionaire heiress -- even though she`s heading to jail, she`s swimming, and I mean swimming, in tons of green. But tonight, I`ve got the surprising list of who else has some serious coin -- we`re talking about the hottest billionaire heiresses. One on the list will truly shock you. Stick around for that coming up.
ANDERSON: You mentioned, A.J., Paris is scheduled to report to jail by June 5th. She`s gotta serve her time for violating probation, in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. Paris has already had her sentence shaved down from 45 days. Now SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you she`s looking to is a higher authority, maybe to reduce her sentence some more.
Paris was spotted in Los Angeles, carrying a couple of books. Take a look at this. One a self help book; the other, the Good Book itself -- the Holy Bible. Kinda looks like a PR stunt if you ask me. I mean, who carries books facing outward like that? But if Paris truly has found prayer, we do wish her the best. Good luck to her.
Anyway, pretty remarkable coincidence, the new season of "The Simple Life" is about to premiere, that`s Paris`s reality show with on-again/off- again best friend, Nicole Richie. This season, they`re camp counselors, even at a camp for people with eating disorders.
Oh, the horror. Here`s your first look.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Best friends forever again.
But there are hard times ahead. Their next challenge?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Good morning, campers. Time to get up. Rise and shine.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Summer camp. Paris and Nicole will live and work in a family-run camp in the middle of nowhere.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You two are going to drive me to drinking.
PARIS HILTON: We`re tough bitches.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This summer they run into all types of campers, with all kinds of demands. Big --
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: How big is the thing going up my (BLEE) -- ow!
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And small.
HILTON: She looks like she is going to murder me.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You don`t teach my six-year-old how to flip people off.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Will life as counselors keep Paris and Nicole close, or tear them apart?
Good luck, girls.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ANDERSON: I don`t even know where to begin. But if you do want to check it out, the season premiere of "The Simple Life" on E! begins Monday May 28.
We`ve been asking you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Paris Hilton: Would you read her jail dairy? Keep voting. CNN.com/showbiztonight. Write to us showbiztonight@cnn.com. HAMMER: Well, Paris Hilton may indeed be going bye-bye for a few weeks, but you know that didn`t stop her from making her way onto Forbes.com`s second annual list of "The World`s 10 Hottest Heiresses". This is a list that includes a SHOWBIZ shocker. It`s definitely going to surprise you. Joining me tonight from the "Forbes" newsroom in New York, the magazine`s Lea Goldman.
Good to see you, Lea.
LEA GOLDMAN, "FORBES": How are you?
HAMMER: I`m good. I love the name of this list. I remember when we did it last year. The world`s 10 hottest heiresses. I see that name, and I wonder how you come up with the people on this list because obviously you`re not just talking about heiresses like Paris Hilton, who is on the list. But these are people with not only bling but buzz as well, correct?
GOLDMAN: Exactly. So we looked at the children and grandchildren of some of the wealthiest people in the world, the ones really players on the social scene. Then we measured also their media exposure. We did that by looking at web hits, by looking at media references on television and radio, and whatnot. We have a special algorithm, a top secret algorithm that calculates all of that, and comes up with the list of the hottest billionaire.
HAMMER: The scientists are sitting down with their computers, figuring it all out.
All right, Lea, well, you mentioned media exposure. So let`s go right to the top of the list. Am I reading this right, Paris Hilton is number one? Which is astounding. How much is she really worth? I know she makes a lot of money herself, but I guess she does have an inheritance coming to her?
GOLDMAN: That`s right. Paris Hilton is the granddaughter of William Baron Hilton, who is running the Hilton Hotel empire. And the family itself is worth $1.3 billion. It doesn`t mean she`s worth $1.3 billion, but certainly she is an heiress to it and will see some money once the grandfather passes.
HAMMER: It`s a family affair here. A lot of people, by the way, are saying that jail is not going to be hurting Paris at all. It`s actually just going to give her another way to market herself. What do you think? Is going to the slammer going to boost her buzz factor? She can`t get any higher on your list, obviously.
GOLDMAN: The question is, how much money could she make off of it? And Paris has certainly mastered the art of making money off her name. So, the question will be how much will she make in appearances? I bet people will throw money at her to show up at clubs and at various parties. So, that I don`t think will stop. I don`t think the blue chip sponsors will be knocking on her door. She`ll keep making money.
HAMMER: It`s interesting on your 10 hottest heiresses in the world, that sister -- Paris and Nicky, obviously, right there, but not No. 1 and No. 2. Paris is No. 1, Nicky is No. 3. I`m not feeling sorry for her at all, but why didn`t she make No. 2?
GOLDMAN: She didn`t make No. 2, because she doesn`t have the same kind of exposure as Paris has. We`ve seen that, that she`s taken a back seat in terms of media. You don`t see her out as often as Paris, and she`s trying to take on more serious ventures than her sister. She`s trying to actually adopt more of the family business. She went into hotels, not with great success. But, nonetheless, she`s looking at more credible business ventures than anything Paris would.
HAMMER: Well, No. 3 is not so bad. But we can`t talk hot heiresses without bringing up Ivanka Trump, she`s at No. 2. Now, Donald Trump loves bragging about how much money he has and that he`s always busy building buildings. Obviously, that bodes well for Ivanka`s net worth, doesn`t it, Lea?
GOLDMAN: I mean, the second biggest thing that Donald likes to boast about is Ivanka. She`s got the brains, she`s got the looks. She`s a former model who graduated with an econ major from Wharton, one of the toughest schools to get into. And now she`s a vice president in the Trump organization. So, she holds her own. She`s unlike any of the heiresses on the list in that she really has the chops of a business woman, and could land herself independent of Donald Trump in the pages of "Forbes" magazine.
HAMMER: That would be nice to see.
Let`s get to the SHOWBIZ shocker, Julia Louis-Dreyfus? I can`t believe she`s on the list. Everybody knows her as Elaine from "Seinfeld". She has her show on CBS. What`s the deal here? She obviously has a lot of her own money but she`s a big-time heiress as well? I think that would shock a lot of people.
GOLDMAN: Yes, not a lot of people know this, but Elaine -- "Laine" -- is the daughter Gerard Louis-Dreyfus who is a multibillionaire. He`s worth over $3 billion in the commodities business. This is an old family fortune. It goes back to banking, back to real estate, back to commodities. She`s his daughter. So, heir to the throne, so to speak.
HAMMER: Let`s do the Elaine dance together? Oh, never mind.
GOLDMAN: I`m sorry.
HAMMER: Lea Goldman, thank you so much. It was fascinating. If you want more on the "Forbes" hot heiress list, visit forbes.com.
ANDERSON: I can tell you the friendly skies why a little too friendly for country star Keith Urban. He got some great service on a recent Qantas flight in his native Australia, he was offered a free bottle of wine. Yea, the problem is, Urban, who`s married to Nicole Kidman, got out of a three-month rehab stint in October, for alcohol abuse.
Now, Urban wasn`t mad. He even joked he drank the entire bottle. But he didn`t have one sip. The airline says it made a simple mistake. The flight attendant didn`t know who he was. But maybe next time, what do you think, they should stick to the peanuts?
HAMMER: That and a hot towel, I guess.
Well, Brooke, this could actually be Angelina Jolie`s most emotional role ever, the one where she plays Marianne Pearl, the widow of Daniel Pearl, "The Wall Street Journal" reporter who, of course, was killed by radical Islamic terrorists. She said it was the most difficult role of her life for sure.
ANDERSON: I`m sure it was. It looks to be a very compelling and heartbreaking movie.
HAMMER: How good is it? Coming up next, your very first review of "A Mighty Heart" on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
ANDERSON: Also, A.J., even though the way Angelina and Brad Pitt hooked up is still considered very controversial. Remember, Brad was reportedly still married to Jen Anniston. Well, we can actually learn a lot from it. Love lessons from the most shocking star hookups and breakups, I`ve got that next.
Plus, I`m going to show you a really cute kitty caught up in carpet. Take a look at this. The fur is really flying in our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT video of the day. Coming up next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.
Time now for the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT video of the day. Talk about taking a cat nap! Somehow this cute little kitten -- you`re about to see the cute little kitten -- snuck into a Mets/Yankees baseball game, hiding in an Astroturf batting practice mat.
When a groundskeeper, as you see, rolled out the carpet, out popped a kitty. Talk about "un-fur-ling" a surprise. Nice. Thanks, Chris. Now even though the cat didn`t have a ticket for the game, the Yankees weren`t mad. In fact, they wanted to know if this puss could pitch, because they`ve been doing so lousy.
Anyway, a cat in the mat, probably a very dizzy kitty, that`s our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT video of the day.
HAMMER: A bunch of the buzz over at the Cannes Film Festival, going on right now in France, is being reserved for Angelina Jolie`s new movie, "A Mighty Heart." Angelina stars as Marianne Pearl, the widow of slain "Wall Street Journal" reporter Daniel Pearl. Angelina said it was the most difficult thing she has ever had to do.
The movie premiered yesterday at Cannes and "People" magazine Film Critic Leah Rozen was right there, one of the first people to see it. She called us with her very opinionated review.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: So, Leah, Angelina has said this story has been an affair of the heart for her. Did she get it right?
LEAH ROZEN, FILM CRITIC, "PEOPLE": Yes, she did. And I have to say, I was thinking this one could go wrong in a lot of ways. And it surprises you with how effective it is, and what a non-sensational approach is taken. This is the story of Marianne Pearl, who is the widow of Daniel Pearl, the slain "Wall Street Journal" reporter.
And when he is kidnapped by Islamic terrorists in Pakistan, she is just sort of thrown into this vortex of the search for him, which unfortunately we all know how it ended. Well, there`s a scene where -- when she does find out that she`s dead. And she just goes into her room and sort of just, you know, closes. The door and lets out this just -- this unending sort of shriek and cry of grief. And it`s really the only time that, you know, she just lets loose that way.
But the film, it really has a sort of near documentary look. You`re just suddenly in the middle of all these people sort of helping her, this complete confusion about what`s going on. And she is there at the center using all her journalistic talent to try to figure out what`s going on, but at the same time to sort of try and stick -- stay on message with what she and her husband Danny Pearl always believed about there is good in the world, and hate gets you nowhere.
HAMMER: Which I wanted to ask you about, because obviously, it tells a very disturbing story but Marianne Pearl has said all along that this films is not so much about her and her husband, but about something much bigger. What was the big message that you walk away with from this film?
ROZEN: The big message is, you know, you have to keep talking. You have to try and understand what is going on. And that journalism is about seeking greater truth. It is not about taking sides. It is about finding out what things are, and telling the truth.
HAMMER: And how`s the reaction been? Marianne is a local in France. So is it an award-worthy film as well as buzz worthy over there?
ROZEN: It may end up garnering some awards. We`ll see what else opens in the fall. But it`s really quite moving. Angelina Jolie does well. The film is about -- it`s about her, but she`s in no way the -- it`s not your typical biopic, in any way, and yet at the end it has real impact.
HAMMER: Brad and Angelina just treated like royalty over there, aren`t they?
ROZEN: Well, yeah. Every one does everything but bow.
HAMMER: Leah Rozen, thanks as always.
ROZEN: You`re welcome.
HAMMER: If you want to see "A Mighty Heart" for yourself, the film will open here in the U.S. on June 22nd.
Well, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT cameras were right there, at the Cannes Film Festival in France, as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made a splashy entrance for the "Mighty Heart" premiere.
Now they way they originally hooked up, on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," has always been controversial. But they are not the only Hollywood A-list couple whose unconventional path to love can teach us all a few things. So right now, I`ve got SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s "Four Lessons of Love", from the most shocking and surprising star hookups and breakups. Joining me tonight from New York, the co-author of "You Can`t Have Him, He`s Mine," Marlene Browne.
That title, right off the bat, those words a lot of people can familiarize themselves with them. Marlene, welcome to the show.
MARLENE BROWNE, CO-AUTHOR, "YOU CAN"T HAVE HIM": Thank you for having me.
ANDERSON: Our first SHOWBIZ TONIGHT love lesson. The first is "L" for long term goals. Now, Brad and Angelina seem to share common goals, family and their humanitarian work. They met on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", as I said, while Brad was still married.
What do you think, Marlene, is this a classic case of romance and work and how it can be a dangerous place for keeping your marriage intact?
BROWNE: Well, work is always dangerous, no matter if you`re a celebrity or regular person. But what Brad and Angelina did is a classic problem. What they had were closely, deeply personal, intimate discussions. Now, that`s a problem. Why is that? Well, when you disclose, you breed intimacy. When you breed intimacy, you breed secrecy.
And when you have secrecy between you and someone else`s husband, that`s never good. If you`re the wife and on the outside of that, like Jennifer must have been, that`s a terrible thing. So you have to be on the lookout. If you think your husband is finding solace on someone else`s arm or trying on someone`s shoulder, you have to stop that.
ANDERSON: Yes, and recognize those signs. And some workplaces even forbid personal, romantic relationships and that leads me to the next lesson. That`s "O" for the office romance. Peter Cook comes to mind, you know, Christie Brinkley`s ex. He had an affair with his employee at the office, while married to Brinkley, the most famous supermodel on the planet.
Marlene, why, why, why? Do men like him just have issues?
ROZEN: Yes. Aside from being a 19-year-old, emotionally, I think, I think you have to look at the dynamics of what`s going on. Married to Christie Brinkley, I don`t know if Peter got all the attention he wanted. Now, his assistant, his 19-year-old assistant, wanted to have a music career. So she had an agenda and Peter got a chance to play powerful power broker. So I think that probably gave him the ego strokes that he might have been lacking with Christie.
What can any wife do? Well, you want to make sure your husband`s needs are being met at home.
ANDERSON: But you don`t have to revere your husband, do you?
ROZEN: Oh, no, you don`t have to revere him. And I`m not forgiving Peter for what he did to Christie. That`s never good. What I am saying, as a wife, there are guarding strategies to employ. And keeping your finger on your husband`s pulse, his ego, his needs, is a very smart thing for a wife to do.
ANDERSON: Very important.
The third lesson "V" for vixen, Denise Richards was a vixen to Richie Sambora and you know some say not really the best friend to Heather Locklear. Denise and Richie have now broken up. But best friends hooking up with ex-husbands it happens all the time, though, right?
ROZEN: It certainly does. Friends, neighbors, co-workers, they can be danger places for a marriage. But, boy, being a vixen will get you even worse press than you can imagine.
Denise did not break up Heather`s marriage, but she certainly failed the best female friend test by pouncing on Richie the moment he became available. I think Denise is probably a lesson for all of us. If your girlfriend tells you to drop your guy, well, maybe you shouldn`t dump him, because maybe she`s not giving advice good for you. Maybe it`s advice that`s good for her.
ANDERSON: Now Denise doesn`t have the guy, or the best friend.
All right --
ROZEN: That`s another one -- I`m sorry. These marriages or relationships often fail 70 percent of the time. So home-wrecking is never a good thing.
ANDERSON: No, never. Very last one, "E" for easily attracted. Very quickly, Anne Heche falls into this category. She and her costar James Tupper met on the set. She`s married. So is James. This isn`t good. It`s dangerous.
ROZEN: And it`s also a common thing. If you`re guy has a wandering eye and you know this, you want to make sure you keep the lines of communication open. Know who he works with, make yourself known at work, plaster pictures all over his work area so people know your guy is taken, he belongs to you.
ANDERSON: So that problems don`t arise. Marlene Browne, thanks so much for joining us and sharing your love lessons with us.
BROWNE: Thank you.
ANDERSON: And you can pick up a copy of her new book, "You Can`t Have Him, He`s Mine," It`s in bookstores everywhere.
We all love Jessica Alba here at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. She`s absolutely beautiful. She`s very talented. And you know what, she is fed up with people thinking she`s a bimbo. Because she`s not. Coming up next, Jessica Alba on beauty, brains and growing up bi-racial. We`ve got her shocking childhood secrets.
That`s coming up next. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for a Tuesday night.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Tonight, Jessica Alba is opening up like never before about her tough childhood being raised in a bi-racial family. Alba`s dad is Hispanic, her mother Danish-French. And in a revealing interview in the new issue of "InStyle" magazine, Alba talks about how she became an outcast growing up in Texas, not quite Hispanic, not quite white.
Alba says her father used to walk her to school so other kids wouldn`t beat her up. Alba also takes a dig at those in Hollywood who think that beautiful women can`t also be smart, saying sarcastically, quote -- "Obviously, if you have a womanly figure, you`re not allowed to have a brain, or any idea of the world, whatsoever. You just have to be hot and use your body to get ahead."
Alba`s in the new movie "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," it`s coming out in a couple of weeks. And you can read more of her revealing interview in the June issue of "InStyle," which hits newsstands this Friday.
ANDERSON: Yesterday we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Farrah Fawcett`s cancer battle exposed. Are the tabloids too invasive? An overwhelming 96 percent of you say yes. That means only 4 percent of you say, no, the tabloid aren`t too invasive. The e-mails:
Mamayauk from Canada says: "Of course the tabloids are too invasive, look at the lengths that the `stalkarazzi` are taking to get the pictures that these tabloids are purchasing."
And Tamara from Wisconsin, "At a time when our civil liberties are being taken away, I find if ridiculous that celebrities must deal with such invasions of their privacy."
We do appreciate your e-mails.
HAMMER: It is time now to find out what is coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Tomorrow, model and actress Angie Everhart. She is opening up about Hollywood and body image, her shocking divorce, and how she`s helping others with their splits, by giving them a total physical and emotional makeover. That`s tomorrow.
Also tomorrow, the summer of sequels, with a new "Die Hard," with the "Shrek" movie out, "Spider Man." I gotta ask, is Hollywood flat our of fresh ideas? What`s old is new again. So why can`t anyone seem to come up with any fantastic, original script? That is what we`re investigating, tomorrow.
HAMMER: And that is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thanks a lot for watching. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
ANDERSON: Have a great night, everybody. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.
"Glenn Beck" coming up next right after the latest headlines from "CNN Headline News".
