Britney Reunited With Mother; Lindsay Lohan Out of Rehab
Aired October 08, 2007 - 23:00 ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
A.J. HAMMER, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: A former co-host of "The View" opens up about why she once felt like an addict. And Britney` Spears` dramatic reunion with her mom, her kids and her sister. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.
Tonight, on an explosive SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Britney`s bizarre weekend caught on tape. See Britney held captive by the paparazzi with her kid sister. See Britney get a flat tire in the dead of the night. See Britney attacked with coffee.
Pam Anderson marries the guy who made a sex tape with Paris Hilton and SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has got Pam`s angry ex-hubby Kid Rock.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
KID ROCK, SINGER: I always knew there was a lot of problems there, just up here. You know, payback is a bitch.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Jennifer Lopez, is she pregnant or not? SHOWBIZ TONIGHT goes right to J-Lo.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I have to ask you about the rumors that are swirling about you being pregnant.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Plus, Lindsay Lohan out of rehab again. Will it work this time?
Danny Bonaduce`s reality star smack down, ouch. Danny right here tonight unplugged. The interview you`ll see only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Let the fireworks begin.
Hello. I`m A.J. Hammer broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City. And there is so much going on tonight, from Lindsay Lohan leaving rehab to Pam Anderson marrying the guy who made a sex tape with Paris Hilton. It`s hard to know where to begin. All right, I lied. I know exactly where to begin, with Britney Spears` bizarre weekend, and it`s all caught on tape. You just have got to see this.
Now, if you were someone whose slightest wrong move could endanger the kids that were actually taken away from you, wouldn`t you -- I don`t know - - maybe lie low out of the public eye for just a bit? Not Britney Spears.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What if you were watched every moment of your life?
HAMMER (voice-over): That was the big question asked in the 1998 movie "The Truman Show," where Jim Carey`s entire life was a reality show watched by millions. But a wilder, real life reality show is unfolding before us. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT brings you the Britney show.
Online and in magazines we see Britney Spears every moment thanks to the army of paparazzi that follows her everywhere. Not only do dozens horde around her to take her picture, they are her protectors, her chauffeurs. And sometimes they provide a kind word.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I like your hat, Britney.
HAMMER: Now SHOWBIZ TONIGHT shows you how over one typical weekend Britney`s wild life and her wild, wild relationship with the paparazzi are captured for the whole world to see.
ALICIA QUARLES, ASSOCIATED PRESS: It`s really an odd, kind of sick relationship.
HAMMER: Check out the mob scene in this video from Hollywood.tv. On Friday, as Brit stops at a Starbucks for a cup of Joe, a good samaritan tries to get the paparazzi to stop blocking Britney`s car.
(INAUDIBLE)
HAMMER: The assorted photographers respond in their own colorful way.
(INAUDIBLE)
HAMMER: Language, people. But the Britney defender has her revenge when she takes her own cup of coffee and hurls it at the paparazzi.
QUARLES: Britney`s fans might be just as crazy as she is.
HAMMER: Early Saturday morning, another mob scene, this time in front of Britney`s house. On her way out the door, she actually poses for pictures with the paparazzi, actually edits the digital photos one photographer snapped of her. The photographers pay her back by fixing the flat tire on her car.
QUARLES: These guys almost kind of look after her in a weird way.
HAMMER: And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT brings you the wildest moment of all. In this footage from TMZ.com, we see Britney and her visiting little sister Jamie Lynn go on a Sunday sushi run when they`re accosted by an upset woman.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Nobody wants you in this neighborhood.
HAMMER: As the Britney basher is shouted down by the paparazzi, little sis chimes in.
JAMIE LYNN SPEARS, BRITNEY SPEARS` SISTER: Well, then move the (EXPLETIVE DELETED) out.
HAMMER: Yes, Britney`s little sister ain`t so little anymore. And you won`t believe what happens next. A shaken Britney actually asks the paparazzi for protection.
BRITNEY SPEARS, SINGER: Don`t let her come by me anymore.
HAMMER: OK, so Britney`s relationship with the paparazzi may be weird. But Alicia Quarles of the Associated Press tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT it may be the most lasting relationship Brit has ever had.
QUARLES: Her relationship with Justin Timberlake didn`t work out. It didn`t work out with Kevin Federline. She`s not really close to her mother anymore. Her kids have been taken away from her. The one constant in Britney`s life all these years has been the paparazzi.
HAMMER: It seems the paparazzi will always be there for Britney, insuring that the Britney show will be a long-running one indeed.
SPEARS: I love you guys.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Well, if you think that`s plenty of drama for any one human being, I can tell you tonight not when it comes to Britney Spears. So much more to tell you about. Britney has finally reunited with her estranged mother, Lynn, who came in from Louisiana to check in on her daughter over the weekend. Britney has also had a visit with her two young sons for the very first time since the judge took them away from her because of her erratic behavior. And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has learned that Britney has taken and passed two court-ordered random drug tests.
With me here in New York tonight, "Access Hollywood" correspondent Tony Potts. Tony is also the host of "Celebrity Expose" on My Network TV, which this week has an unbelievably revealing look at Britney`s life. Also with us tonight from Hollywood, "In Touch Weekly`s" Kim Serafin. Kim, Tony, appreciate you guys being with us.
Tony, on your show, one of the featured interviews is this incredibly revealing interview with Britney. This was from 2004. In it, she talks about how amazing her mom is, and she gets very emotional. I want to take a look at this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You got emotional about your mother.
SPEARS: I did. It is. It`s stupid.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No, it`s not. My mom is here, and I would be doing the same thing. My mom gets me through everything too, so you make me cry with you. She`s a good mom.
SPEARS: Yes.
(END VIDEO CLIP
HAMMER: It`s sweet. I know you have known Britney for years. You have known her mom for years. How did things go so wrong between the two is them.
TONY POTTS, "ACCESS HOLLYWOOD": It`s interesting to see what happens. I think when you get drugs involved and maybe get post-partum depression, what have you -- we don`t know exactly what`s going on with her -- you don`t make sound decisions. If you and I were given drugs and come back in an hour from now, you and I would be completely different people and probably a bit goofy. And that`s what happens.
There are no rationale decisions when you`re like that. I think that`s kind of what happens. You push away -- usually towards the last two things you do before you hit bottom, A.J., is you go and you push away your family, so you can continue to do what you want to do, the behavior they don`t want you to do, and then your work suffers. That`s usually the last thing. We saw what happened at the VMAs.
HAMMER: And this estrangement with her mom really dates back to -- I guess it was in June when Brit apparently handed her mom a letter, which reportedly asked that Lynn, mom, stay away from the kids. So after all this time, they`re finally reunited. I see that as a good thing, but, Kim, what do you think? How significant a step is this for Britney in getting her act together and straightening up?
KIM SERAFIN, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": Oh, I think it`s very important. I mean, even look at just the other news of today, the fact that Lindsay Lohan is out of rehab, but part of that process was reuniting with her father. And especially with Britney; her mom has been such a big, important force in her life back to "The Mickey Mouse Club" days even. And her life really started to spiral out of control, even go back to around June. Things just took a dive for the worst since then.
She`s pushed a lot of people out of her life and cut -- her mom and her sister coming back into her life definitely an important step. Even you mentioned at the beginning of the show the visit with the kids happened. Maybe some of that had to do with her mom being in town as well.
POTTS: I can tell that the mom and the family are very encouraged -- very encouraged by the meeting that they`ve had. And would I tend to think that rehab will probably be on the horizon very soon.
HAMMER: OK, so you think that`s a foregone conclusion. Yet, we hear, despite that, they say they`re encouraging things happening. She has her first visit with the kids today, which is terrific. Get them back together. Then we hear reports that she doesn`t want to meet them at the house. She wants to meet them at the Beverly Hills Hotel. But she`s not at the door when they come to the house.
I still have to wonder, and I don`t know if this is a substance issue as well, why it is that she seems to be making it so difficult.
POTTS: I think if you are on drugs and you have that mentality, I think it`s hard to make rationale decisions. And everything that`s done -- I mean, she checked into the hotel, went out at 4:00 in the morning and left again and did all of that. That`s very irrational and erratic behavior, like you said at the top of the show. Apparently the call box on the gate of the door wasn`t working, so they never heard that the security was there with the kids. And that`s the version that I`m given.
HAMMER: All right. We can only go with what we hear. A lot of it is speculation.
POTTS: You would think security would have the code to get in.
HAMMER: You would think. Well, it is good news that we got later today about the court-ordered random drug testing that Britney was supposed to do. And apparently she took and passed her first two tests, as we reported. So, Kim, given al her erratic behavior, are you confident that Britney will keep on doing this?
SERAFIN: You know, it sounds like she`s taking some steps in the right direction, but you also have to look at her behavior this weekend. I know you have been showing video of it. You know, she was out and about. She was at Starbucks and she was shopping, and she was at Taco Bell and joking around with the paparazzi. And even from a PR standpoint, it doesn`t seem like a woman who is taking this very seriously. It doesn`t seem like a woman who looks really upset that she just lost custody of her kids.
HAMMER: It seems if there was ever a time in your life to truly lay low, this would be the time. We`ll wrap it up there. Tony Potts, Kim Serafin, thank you so much for being with us tonight. Tony is sticking around. You are not going to believe what he has got for us tonight.
With Britney such a mess now, it`s really amazing when you take a look back at some startling Britney interviews from the past. And you really can take a look and see if you could have ever predicted what has happened to her today. Coming up at 45 past the hour, we`ll have that and advice for Britney from Britney. It`s a revealing celebrity expose.
All right, roll the video, Charles. Every time I see it, I feel the pain in my own teeth. Danny Bonaduce dumping a big reality star right on his face. Yes, well, Danny is right here tonight. I`m going one-on-one with him. I have to find out what really happened after he sent that guy to the hospital. We also have this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HALLE BERRY, ACTRESS: I`m having a baby with this man. I must be in love. It must be what I`m doing. So to deny it or ignore it, I think wouldn`t be doing justice to my relationship.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Halle Berry is pregnant. We`re all very excited for her. Coming up, I get her to reveal just what she`s most looking forward to about becoming a mom. I bet she`s going to be great at that too.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Now, Meredith stopped by at "The View" today. This was her first time visiting that show since she left a year ago to take over on "The Today Show" for Katie Couric. And one of the things her former co- workers wanted to know is how is she adjusting to that brutal early morning show.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MEREDITH VIERA, "THE TODAY SHOW": It`s hard. I was off for two weeks, and I was so -- when you are on that schedule and then you have a break, you live a normal life. And that night before I was going back on, I got so scared that I found myself in the bathroom chugging Nyquil. And I felt so bad about it. I couldn`t go to sleep. About midnight I went in the bathroom and started chugging. Well, that`s like an addict.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes, I`m sure that huge 10 million dollar paycheck, give or take a little, is also some pretty good medicine for those nasty morning hours.
Well, tonight Lindsay Lohan is out of rehab after nearly two months in the exclusive Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah. Lindsay started her third stint in rehab after crashing her car this summer, getting arrested for two separate DUIs and for having cocaine on her. If Lindsay thinks she`s out of the woods, she has another thing coming.
With us tonight from Hollywood, Ken Sealey, interventionist from the A&E show "Intervention," and here in New York, clinical psychologist Dr. Judy Kuriansky. Judy, Ken, it`s always good to see the both of you.
Ken, let`s have straight at it with you. Less than 60 days in rehab; did she leave a little too soon? What do you think?
KEN SEALEY, "INTERVENTION": A.J., she left way too soon. I think she needs a lot more treatment. And what I normally suggest to the clients that I work with for 17 to 24-year-olds is at least a year of follow-up care. So to go back to work next Monday is way too soon.
HAMMER: What do you think, Dr. Judy, in terms of the amount of time she actually spent in rehab, because originally it was thought she was going to get out earlier than she did, and she ended up staying those additional days.
DR. JUDY KURIANSKY, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: I`m real glad she stayed those additional days, but even that`s not enough. A.J., you even said three times. We`ve got a revolving door here. And 28 days, six weeks even, is not enough. People have a whole life to reconstitute here. Poor Lindsay admits she`s been an alcohol and drug addict, and still is and always will be and needs to continually get help. If you are going to dig down into all the problems, all the life issues, all the problems with her parents and how they are misbehaving, even though she`s seen her dad, that takes a lot of time, not just a few yoga sessions, group therapy, a couple of, you know, intensive therapeutic discussions.
It takes a long time. She needs to be in a residential center for a longer time, and then follow-ups.
HAMMER: Yes, and as we talked about on the show, that revolving door not uncommon. In fact, Danny Bonaduce has been around the revolving door. Danny is going to be joining us on the program in just a little bit. She is definitely not out of the woods. Now, earlier today I had the opportunity to speak with Former Miss USA Tara Connor. We all know Tara almost lost her crown. She went into rehab, and she finally admitted she was an alcoholic, something she previously had been denied.
Tara is about to star in this new MTV reality show called "Pageant Place." And given her own experience, I wanted to know from her what she imagines Lindsay is going through right now, post-rehab. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
TARA CONNER, FORMER MISS USA: You know, she`s going to have, like she`s always had, a huge microscope on her. And that makes it hard enough to deal with. No one wants to, you know, get sober and then have everyone sit there and watch every single move that you make because it`s for you. You`re getting sober for you, not for the world.
You know, I didn`t get sober so that everyone could like me again. I got sober because I had to in order to live. I`m extremely proud of her for staying as long at the rehab as she did. And I`m hopeful that she will stay sober.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: I think we all are hopeful of that. Ken, she talks about being under the microscope and that being a bad thing. Am I crazy to look at the flip side of that, and say maybe it`s a good thing because she`s always going to have everybody watching what she does, and she`ll kind of be looking over her shoulder before she does anything?
SEALEY: I think Lindsay and Britney are both very fortunate to have everybody watching because that`s going to be their bottom. When they see their behavior and they turn on the TV and watch the media covering their behavior, that`s going to be their bottom to say this is unacceptable behavior. So I disagree. I think it`s a great thing, as you do.
HAMMER: I have about ten seconds here, but do you think the spotlight is a positive or negative?
KURIANSKY: It`s a positive thing because we all can act as a support system. They both need sympathy and a lot of encouragement and a lot of love. And we can give it to them.
HAMMER: Yes, it certainly does add to the pressure, I`m sure. But at the end of the day, if they had more people around them cheering them on, as we`re trying to do right here, hopefully it will be a good thing in the end. Ken Sealey, Dr. Judy Kuriansky, I appreciate you both being here tonight.
SEALEY: Thanks, A.J.
KURIANSKY: Thanks.
HAMMER: You`re welcome.
And now we would like to hear from you. It`s our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Lindsay Lohan out of rehab; do you think it`s going to work this time? Let us know at CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT or email us at SHOWBIZTONIGHT@CNN.com.
Well, Britney Spears has done her time in rehab. And you know, here`s a really interesting question. I mean, everybody is so shocked about what happened to her, but could it be we just missed all of the signs that she was heading for disaster? Well, coming up at 45 past the hour, a revealing Britney Spears celebrity expose. We are digging up some amazing Britney interviews you won`t want to miss, to investigate just where she went wrong. Also this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BERRY: I`m having a baby with this man. I must be in love. It must be what I`m doing. So to deny it or ignore it I think wouldn`t be doing justice to my relationship.
(END VIDEO CLIP
HAMMER: There you have one of my favorite people in Hollywood, one of the warmest people I have ever come across, Halle Berry. And she looks great. She`s glowing, in fact, possibly because she`s going to be a mommy. And tonight Halle is opening up to me about her pregnancy, and she tells me what she is most looking forward to. Stick around for that.
And speaking of babies, all right, J-Lo has really been keeping all this talk about her being pregnant on the down low. We want to know, is Jennifer Lopez expecting? Well, we are going right to her and we`ll hear what she says in her own words coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: All right. So we`ve been hearing all kinds of talk that Jennifer Lopez is pregnant. And J-Lo, of course, is married to singer Mark Anthony. She`s been wanting kids for a long time. Now, CNN "American Morning" entertainment correspondent Lola Ogunnaike caught up with Lopez right here in New York City today. She and her husband are on tour together. Lola asked J-Lo point-blank is she expecting?
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
LOLA OGUNNAIKE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: I have to ask you about the rumors that are swirling about you being pregnant. Do you care to clear the record right now?
JENNIFER LOPEZ, SINGER: No. No.
OGUNNAIKE: No?
LOPEZ: No.
OGUNNAIKE: If I ask you in Spanish?
LOPEZ: No. (INAUDIBLE)
My answer would still be no.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right, so in any language, Lola just couldn`t pry it out of her. But my money is on yes, J-Lo is pregnant. Not exactly sure why she`s hiding it, though. But J-Lo, we`ll respect if you want to keep it to yourself. Anyway, catch more of Lola`s revealing interview with Jennifer Lopez on CNN`s "American Morning" tomorrow between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
Well, Halle Barry is happy about her pregnancy. She`s so happy that she basically is shouting it from the roof tops.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BERRY: I`m having a baby with this man. I must be in love. It must be what I`m doing. To deny it or ignore it I think wouldn`t be doing justice to my relationship.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: She`s happy. We`re happy, guys, right? Everybody is happy for Halle Barry. And tonight she`s really opening up to me about becoming a mom. She`ll tell me what she`s looking forward to most. That`s coming up.
The Danny Bonaduce`s reality smack down. My face hurts every time I see this video. Watch closely now. Danny Bonaduce tossing another reality star on to the floor. Danny right here tonight with me. I`m going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.
Also, Danny has a lot to say about Britney Spears` meltdown as well. Danny, of course, has bounced back from rock bottom himself. But here`s the question; was Britney giving off warning signs all along that she was in trouble? And did we miss them? We are digging into some startling Britney interviews from the past to find out. Tonight, a revealing celebrity expose of Britney Spears.
(NEWS BREAK)
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Kid Rock goes of on his ex, Pamela Anderson.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
KID ROCK, MUSICIAN: I always knew there was a lot of problems there. And when it`s affecting your son, that`s when I step back and go wait a second.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: No kid gloves here. Kid Rock comes out swinging at his ex- wife Pam Anderson just as she gets married to the guy who starred with Paris Hilton in her infamous sex tape. You just can`t make this stuff up.
Speaking of sparring. Danny Bonaduce right here. This guy never pulls any punches. And that`s why we love him. Tonight Danny on his unbelievable smackdown on stage with another reality star and his harsh advice to the likes of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. Tonight it`s Danny Bonaduce unplugged.
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for Monday night. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer broadcasting tonight, and every night, from New York City. This is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.
And tonight Danny Bonaduce unplugged. Roll the video, Charles. Who can forget this? Danny Bonaduce throwing "Survivor" star Johnny Fairplay over his shoulders at FOX`s reality awards show. Yeah. Well, Fairplay said it was a joke. Danny Bonaduce said he was attacked.
Danny, joining us tonight from Hollywood where you can catch him every single morning on the Adam Carolla (ph) Radio Show.
Danny, it is a pleasure to welcome you back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. We have missed you, my friend.
DANNY BONADUCE, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: It`s always a pleasure to be here. Thank you.
HAMMER: So I got to say every time I see this video, and you`re tossing Johnny Fairplay over your shoulders and he is crashing on his head. It hurts just kind of looking at it. Now, a lot of people -- you know, this has been debated ad nauseam -- as far as I`m concerned. A lot of people say it looks like he was just giving you a hug. You say --
BONADUCE: Really?
HAMMER: -- he was attacking. That`s what some people are saying.
BONADUCE: Can you roll it again? And find out what part of rolling his genitalia rapidly against my stomach and chest looks like a hug?
HAMMER: That`s what I`m saying.
BONDADUCE: You`re watching right now.
HAMMER: This was an attack, right?
BONADUCE: Here we go. Watch. Here we go. Watch. That`s a hug? Do you hug your mom like that? Do you hug your sister like that? If you hugged a strange woman like that, wouldn`t you go to jail? The man had no right to touch me like that.
HAMMER: I think human resources at a place of business would probably take issue at that.
BONADUCE: I think, maybe.
HAMMER: So, as far as you`re concerned, an attack?
BONADUCE: No. I don`t know that it was an attack. I didn`t wait to find out, you know -- reaction time versus action time is very different. I didn`t wait to see if I was under attack. He jumped on me and when he wrapped his armed around me -- because when he first started to run at me I thought -- is he going to hurt me? What`s he going to do? I cocked my fist back, and I wear a lot of junk jewelry for fun, I just think it`s neat looking. And I had all these pirate skull rings. I thought, if I hit this guy, it`s really go to hurt.
So I put my hands dead at my side like a tin soldier, you`ll see, to show him, I don`t want any of this, don`t do this. This is a bad call. See the hands at my sides?
HAMMER: Yes, yes.
BONADUCE: And once he jumped on there, my hands were pinned. I thought -- his arms are around my neck, and I thought is he going to do this? I just straighten out my arms, and there he goes. I`ll be honest with you, I am not sorry for a moment that I did it. I`m sorry he got hurt. There`s no reason for anybody to get hurt, but he took a shot, and it was a mistake.
Nobody -- you know, you don`t jump on grown men and do what he calls a "monkey hump" on me. That`s what he called it.
HAMMER: I know that --
BONADUCE: If you want to hump me, you should probably ask my permission.
HAMMER: I would agree. Particularly if it`s in front of, you know, a televised audience. But I have to say -- and he called it the monkey hump. I was not aware that Johnny Fairplay has signature moves.
BONADUCE: That`s what he said.
HAMMER: He calls this one of his signature moves. Let`s look at what he told TMZ about this whole thing. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JOHNNY FAIRPLAY: Danny Bonaduce came up behind me, and he was -- he said -- cause if you were booing -- because I`m a bad guy, say boo. They`re booing you because they (EXPLETIVE DELETED) hate you. I said I know. That`s good.
So he sort of walked off, and I was, like, hey, Danny. I ran and jumped and hugged him with my arms and legs, like I`ve done it on pretty much every show I`ve ever been on. It`s a nice thing. He was, like, (EXPLETIVE DELETED) you. Threw me over his head as hard as he could. I didn`t have time to put my hands or anything, and I just went mouth first into the stage.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Well, he claims that a tooth was shattered in eight places and he had two and a half hours of surgery, and he said he was doing a nice thing, but I think we pretty much settled this, Danny, you`re not feeling any guilt over this.
BONADUCE: No, no. I`m feeling sorry that he got hurt, but I have -- he pressed felony battery charges against me that night in the hospital, and if you go to TMZ or any of them right now, the district attorney report is on there. And it says physical contact was initiated by Mr. Fairplay and Mr. Bonaduce acted purely in self-defense.
So I`m sorry he got hurt. But the way I look at it is he jumped on top of me, pinned my arms to my side, made a disgusting gesture, and I helped him to the ground with a great deal of velocity.
HAMMER: Case closed. Let`s move on.
Danny, how are you doing, by the way? Since "Breaking Bonaduce" has gone off the air, for those of us that can`t hear your radio show every day, we`re not aware of whatever is going on in your life. But since the show has gone off, you have split with your wife. We know about your continued struggles with rehab. How are you doing?
BONADUCE: Actually, I don`t currently -- if you look at my extended periods of time I don`t have current problems with rehab. This is the longest I have ever been sober. I think I`m coming up dangerously close to two years, or something ridiculous like that. I have split up with my wife, which is unfortunate, but we get along great.
As a matter of fact, she said today -- she called the radio show and said will you do me a favor? I really need to start dating, and people are afraid of you. Can you go on the radio and tell people it`s OK date me, and that you won`t do anything mean to them?
I actually went on the radio and said I love my wife, and I want her back, but she is not coming. So the best thing you can do for me is marry her and get her off my payroll, so if you marry my wife, I will pay for your honeymoon. I will send you anywhere in the world if you are the guy that marries my ex-wife.
HAMMER: So you`ll have no problem. You come face-to-face with a guy who is making the moves on your ex-wife, you`ll be totally cool with it?
HAMMER: You -- you have actually reworded that for fear of hurting my feelings. I appreciate that. You wanted to say, I think, if I`m guessing, if you come face-to-face with a guy that`s making love to your wife, the fact is if he is making love to my ex-wife. And she`s no longer getting $16,000 a month of my money, that she was going to get anyway -- I was never going to get her back, I will shake his hand and kiss him right on the mouth.
HAMMER: I`m here to help as well, Danny.
BONADUCE: Thank you.
HAMMER: This will further your wife`s cause.
Let`s move on because I know you have obviously heard about -- you talked about Lindsay Lohan, just released from rehab herself after a couple of months. You know, as we talked about with you on our show, you have been there, done that. Is Lindsay deluding herself to think she can go back into her Hollywood life as she knew it and actually stay sober?
BONADUCE: Yes. She is absolutely -- the quickest answer you are going to get. Yes, she is delusional. I`m a guy -- you`re supposed to be in a 12 step program. You`re not supposed to use the two vowels, but I assume you know the meetings I`m talking about.
I had a guy ask in a group of people, is it OK if I just do a little cocaine, as long as I don`t drink anymore? And I was like, is that a real question? Does Lindsay Lohan really think she can go back to that lifestyle and not slip up and have one drink, which will turn into one drug, which will turn into one this? There`s no way. It is not possible. It cannot, as far as I know, be done. And as a matter of fact, compared to Britney and Paris and Nicole Richie, I find Lindsay the most dangerous of the four horsewomen of the Apocalypse. And I do not give her a long shelf life. It`s sad because I -- she`ll straighten up, which is unlikely, or she`ll die, which is possible.
HAMMER: No, and that`s what we`re constantly talking about is some real tragedy may have to occur before somebody, you know, has their wakeup call.
You know, you mention Britney, and she just does not seem to be acting in the best interest of, well, a person who, you know, just had their kids taken away. A lot of people are saying she needs to go to rehab. And she`s saying, no, no, no. What do you think? Would that be a good move for her right now?
BONADUCE: Well, rehab will give you 28 to 31 days, or how long you choose to stay of a confined living space with some rules. I`m sure she could use that. I`m not sure that Britney Spears is a drug addict or an alcoholic. I think she married an idiot. Tony Potts was much kinder than I would be about K-Fed. I think he is an animal. I think he leaves pregnant women to impregnate other young women, and leave them. I think when he said the one thing that I agreed with Mr. Potts, who I like a great deal, the timeline does kind of show K-Fed coming in when she fell apart.
He is my absolute -- he is the absolute target on his back for me and my hatred if he has taken a little girl who was having a crisis and pushed her to the edge where she is now because you`re right. She is not lucid, and I don`t believe she`s a drug addict or an alcoholic. I think she`s been pushed to the brink of insanity.
HAMMER: We hope it doesn`t get more tragic than it already is. Danny, it was great seeing you. We have to wrap it up there because I`m out of time. I appreciate you being with us tonight.
BONADUCE: It was a pleasure. It always is.
HAMMER: If you had any doubt that romance is still alive in Hollywood, here`s a little story that is sure to warm your heart. This is a classic story of two people with sex tapes falling in love and getting married in Vegas between magic shows. I`m talking about Pam Anderson and Rick Salomon. You know Rick as the co-star of Paris Hilton`s sex tape. Pam and Rick got married over the weekend. The bride wore white denim. The I dos were said between the 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. shows where Pam is starring as a magician`s assistant. I love it.
Pam has recently been in the headlines because her ex, Kid Rock, has been talking about their four-month marriage. He says while they were married she faked a miscarriage. And that wasn`t the only thing that made him think that maybe this wasn`t the woman of his dreams. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
KID ROCK: I always knew there was a lot of problems there, just up here, but I thought that might just be a result of who she was, and where she came from and probably some dark thing in the past there. I don`t know. Really I just kind of brushed it aside. And say, hey, I`m in love with this person. What can you do?
Then when things start to come to light like that, and then when things start to affect your family. Like, you know, and she`s putting down my mom and my sister. These are two people that are vocal in my life and helping me in my son a lot. And when it`s affecting your son that`s when I kinda step back, and I go, wait a second.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: We did ask Kid what he thinks about Pam and Rick`s relationship? He said, he doesn`t care.
Well, tonight some advice for Britney Spears from Britney Spears.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BRITNEY SPEARS: Well, I think that there are some things that you wish you hadn`t done, but I think you learn from those things.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Wait until you see what else Britney said way back when. We have the host of "Celebrity Expose" right here coming up next with the stunning interviews and inside story of how Britney went from bright-eyed young star to train wreck. That is coming up next.
Also coming up, my one-on-one with the lovely, the talented, and the mom-to-be Halle Barry. Really one of my favorite people in Hollywood. I asked Halle what she`s looking forward to the most about motherhood. And I got to say, I love what she had to tell me. You have to hear Halle in her own words coming up.
First, time for the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "News Quiz". I want you to take a look at his video. This is a church in St. Louis, Missouri, where people took their dogs, birds, and even hamsters. Here`s what we wanted to know. What are these animals doing in church? Are they praying, getting blessed, getting marriage licenses, or trying out for a pageant based on Noah`s ark? Stick around. We are coming right back with the answer on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Thank you, Charles.
It is time for the answer to the SHOWBIZ "News Quiz". This is St. Louis. People brought their pets to church here. We wanted to know what the heck are all these animals doing in church? Were they praying, are they getting blessed, getting marriage licenses? Maybe they were trying out for a pageant based on Noah`s ark? The answer is, as you see, B, the pets were part of the annual blessing of the animals in honor of Saint Frances of Assisi.
Well, tonight a shocking look at Britney Spears in her own words. In the amazing new show "Celebrity Expose", on My Network TV, we hear directly from Britney Spears about her life in the spotlight. I want you to take a look at this clip from 2001 with "Celebrity Expose" host Tony Potts.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SPEARS: I`ve just do what I do because I love -- I love to sing and dance on stage. And I know the other stuff that goes along with it, but as I -- if I can just do this and be happy, then, hello, I`m still -- I`m in it for the long haul. Definitely. I love it.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: So could there have been signs back then that Britney was already in trouble? With me tonight the host of "Celebrity Expose", "Access Hollywood" correspondent Tony Potts.
Tony, thank you for sticking around with us tonight.
TONY POTTS, HOST, "CELEBRITY EXPOSE": You know, A.J., that was back stage, at Gundt (ph) Arena in Cleveland. That was when I was with her backstage. Her mom was there. Her little sister was there, and everything was fine. She does understand what comes with fame. And she does understand if you make mistakes, you do grow, and you do come back. Now we`ll see if she can come back from this.
HAMMER: What`s so interesting, though, about watching this show and watching the clips that you play, the interviews are really telling, in so many ways.
First one I want to show is from 2004. Britney and K-Fed had just gotten married.
POTTS: Oh, yeah.
HAMMER: You are talking to them about how great it is to be married. Let`s watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
POTTS: Let me ask you, how great is it to come out here tonight as a married couple? I`ll ask you first, Kevin.
KEVIN FEDERLINE: It`s wonderful. Wonderful. Best thing is just being in love.
SPEARS: Oh. Hey, baby. You`re sweet.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: That looks real, looks genuine.
POTTS: Yeah.
HAMMER: Do you think they ever could have expected that things would go so wrong?
POTTS: I don`t think anybody ever does. That was their first time out being married. And they were so in love, and you could see the way she was looking at him. But I can tell you, if you look at a definitive timeline of Britney being great, and then when she started to slide, you can see it was -- you can make the argument it was, when Kevin Federline came into her life. From then on, it`s always been a little erratic behavior, and there has been that downturn, and the huge slide we have now.
HAMMER: That`s interesting. Because we`ve been looking back, trying to figure out what was that turning point?
I want to play another clip, this one from 2006. Britney just had Sean Preston, and you are talking here -- this is what Britney said about motherhood. Let`s watch.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SPEARS: Words can`t, you know -- words can`t explain. That`s all I can -- you know, you just -- it`s just -- it`s amazing. It`s awesome. I`m very blessed.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: There`s a whole different glow to you.
SPEARS: Thank you.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You really do.
SPEARS: Well, thank you.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: I got to say she doesn`t necessarily look in that clip like she`s the gushing mother, and along this whole process a lot of people have questioned her maternal instinct, if she even has one. Because she just doesn`t seem to be fighting so hard for her kids. What do you think?
POTTS: I think she does. In talking to Tony Barretto, her bodyguard. I think she does to an extent. But I also think that with the nannies and what`s been going on with her life, it`s tough for her to have quality one- on-one time, focus time with the kids. But look how different she is back then, with the first one.
Not gushing, I think, maybe because she`s been in the public spotlight so she knows if she brings them up too much, and shows pictures, and they`re out there. But that was followed by her, of course, being out everywhere with the first one, Sean Preston.
We`ll see. I mean, maybe she`ll have a chance now. Rights the ship, and gets into rehab and comes out of that, and could be a fantastic mom. I can tell you from the time I spent with her prior to this, from `99 up `til now. She`s a wonderful human being. She`s got a huge heart, and she`s a very sweet gal.
HAMMER: All right. Well, speaking of life in the spotlight, back in 2004 you had another clip here where Britney is talking about that kind of a life, and if she had any regrets -- I find this very interesting. Let`s watch what she said.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SPEARS: Well, I think that there are some things that you wish you hadn`t done, but I think you learn from those things. And you just kind of -- I wouldn`t be the person that I am today and I wouldn`t, you know -- I think hardships sometimes are good for people.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Now, given the way she`s acting today, do you think she would have the same sort of response? I mean, it`s been so wild to watch this ride.
POTTS: I think, A.J., when they right the ship, when she does again, she`ll be able to realize that, and learn from al of this. And it may be a bit of an embarrassment, because there`s a lot of video out there on her. But I think she`ll look back at this, she`ll grow from this, and she`ll be better. And if it makes her closer to her children, then that`s probably all she would want at this point.
Also, too, if you look at Kevin Federline, he is not out. You saw the video you guys have -- of -- he`s not out. He is playing the smart role, at least legally, and for the judge not to see clips of him anywhere out, you know, partying what have you.
HAMMER: Not to go too off the topic here, but I`m curious to get your insight on that. Do think that`s because he has people in his corner saying do this, or do you think he just instinctually knows that that`s the right thing to do? We both know K-Fed. What`s your take?
POTTS: I think it`s lawyers saying, look, here`s the game plan. You got to adhere to it. If you are going to go party, go to Phoenix, or go somewhere else. Just get out of town. But don`t go crazy, if there`s one time in your life, one stretch if your life not to do that, this might be the smart time. The problem with Britney, as you know, because she has went through now, this is her third lawyer -- Mr. Trope (ph) is her third lawyer -- that she has not listened. And that is why her management team dropped her as well. So, if you don`t have somebody who listens to you, you can`t counsel them.
HAMMER: We only have about 30 seconds, but looking back at these clips that you have in your show, do you think that we ever could have, or she ever could have known that her life would become the celebrity train wreck that it did?
POTTS: I have a snap shot in my mind from she and Justin. Both dressed in denim. I think it`s 2000. They`re both -- they`re careers ahead of them. It`s fantastic, the sky is the limit. And you look at what happened at the VMAs. He gets awards, and she has a debacle. Who could have thought of this one?
HAMMER: Tony thanks for being here. I appreciate it.
POTTS: My pleasure, A.J.
HAMMER: Tony`s show is called "Celebrity Expose", it will air Monday nights on My Network TV.
Well, we`ve been asking you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day". Lindsay Lohan out of rehab. What do you think? Is it going to work this time? Let us know by voting at cnn.com/showbiz tonight. Got more to say? Our e-mail address is showbiztonight@cnn.com. We`ll be reading some of those emails tomorrow.
Coming up my one-on-one with the lovely, the pregnant Halle Barry. I asked Halle what she was looking forward to the most about motherhood, and I got to tell you, I think she has great perspective on it. That`s coming up next on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
Well, life is truly great for Halle Barry these days. She`s starring alongside Benicio Del Toro in a new movie called, "Things We lost in the Fire." I happened to catch the film on Friday. Her performance is emotional. It`s very powerful.
I got to say her maternal instinct really comes through in the film. She plays a mother to two young kids in the movie. And in real life, you probably know by now, Halle Barry is pregnant with her first child. She definitely has that glow. When I sat down with her I asked her what she was looking forward to the most about being a mother. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HALLE BARRY, ACTRESS: You know, just experiencing what motherhood is all about, unconditional love in my life, to raising a human being that I hope will be someone who adds something wonderful to this world in which we live in. And that`s like the biggest challenge I can think of in life right now, is raising another -- if I get to raise a man, to raise a decent man in the world. Like that would really be a full circle moment for me.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: I love her so much. Halle told me that so far she`s enjoying being pregnant. She`s feeling wonderful. You can see Halle Barry in "Things We Lost in the Fire." It will be in theaters October 19.
Last week we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day", and here`s what we were asking. Britney Spears, is she trying hard enough to keep her kids? Not surprisingly, here`s how the vote went, 5 percent of you said yes; 95 percent of you said no.
A lot of email came in. Here are just a few of them. One from Whitney in Texas who writes, "The more I hear about Britney, the more I think she doesn`t even really want the responsibility of having kids."
Jane from California writes, "Britney will get her act together and rise above of all this. She is very talented and she loves her children."
Thank you for your emails.
Time now to see what is coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Tomorrow, beauty and the scandals. Why former beauty queens caught in big scandals, including former Miss USA Tara Connor, decided to live together and their surprising comments about the likes of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. When being a beauty queen gets ugly. That`s tomorrow in the interview you`ll see only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Also tomorrow, the book on Rosie. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is right there for Rosie O`Donnell`s first big public appearance since releasing her painfully revealing and controversial memoir, "Expect the Unexpected". Tomorrow on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Well, that is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thank you very much for watching. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
