THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
A.J. HAMMER, HOST: Shocking news. The man Gary Collins hit the night he was busted for DUI has died. And showbiz wedding watch. Two big celebrity weddings that happened and one that didn`t. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.
On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the unbelievable meltdown of Grammy nominee Amy Winehouse. They tried to make her go to rehab. She says no, no, no. But tonight, her mother is saying, yes, yes, yes. Her mom`s remarkable and heartbreaking plea to get help. Her husband in jail. Her tour canceled. Is Amy Winehouse becoming Britain`s Britney on a collision course with train wreck city? Tonight SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is dialing celebrity rehab 911.
The five most humiliating celebrity moments ever. You think you`ve having a bad day. Well, tonight the mess-ups and the mix-ups that made these stars want to crawl into a hole and disappear. But what is the most cringe-worthy, the most embarrassing, the worst of the worst? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT counts down the top five most humiliating celebrity moments ever.
(MUSIC)
HAMMER: Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City. And the outrage over comments suggesting that Jennifer Love Hewitt has weight issues exploded again today because now the 18-year-old star of "Heroes," Hayden Panettiere, is jumping into the fat fight. Hayden, The Hero`s powerful words are coming up.
But first, tonight Amy Winehouse, call home. Your mother wants you to go into rehab, and don`t say no, no, no this time around. Just days after Amy Winehouse got nominated for six - count them, six, Grammy Awards - her mother is making an emotional plea to get her train wreck daughter into rehab. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT begins with the first call to celebrity rehab 911.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: Britney Spears?
BRITNEY SPEARS, SINGER: Where is the party at?
HAMMER: Amateur. Lindsay Lohan? Child`s play. And Paris Hilton? Not even on her best day. When it comes to making music, making trouble and worldwide news -
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE NEWS ANCHOR: The singer Amy Winehouse is never far from the headlines.
HAMMER: No one, but no one, holds a candle to Amy Winehouse.
MICHAEL YO, "E! RADIO": Amy Winehouse is pretty much the Britney Spears of the U.K.
HAMMER: But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, the woman who made a joke and a hit song out of refusing to go to rehab -
AMY WINEHOUSE, SINGER (sung): They tried to make me go to rehab and I said no, no, no
HAMMER: And just scored a half dozen Grammy nominations in the process, is now in danger of being consumed by alleged drug use that appears to be spiraling out of control.
YO: I mean, she is just a lost cause right now.
HAMMER: "The New York Post" and papers all over the world ran this shocking photo of the music superstar wandering the streets of London barefoot, wearing jeans and a bra and appearing very disoriented.
KATIE DARYL, TMZ TV: Amy seems to be going down a really dangerous road.
HAMMER: Katie Daryl of TMZ TV tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT Winehouse`s decline has been very fascinating and very public.
DARYL: We`ve seen photographs of her with white powder in her nose, whatever that may be. We`ve seen the photographs of her wandering the streets of London at night in the bitter cold. This girl is going down a rocky road, and we`re getting to witness this all.
HAMMER: Now, Amy Winehouse`s mother is stepping in, desperately begging her superstar daughter to get help before it`s too late. In an open letter to Winehouse, appearing in the British newspaper "News of the World," Amy`s mother, Janice writes, quote, "Early fame has overwhelmed you. It`s dizzied you and muddled your mind. For a moment, forget you`re a superstar. You`re also young and vulnerable. Remember you`re just an ordinary human being, no stronger than any of the rest of us. You think you`re strong enough to get through this on your own, darling, but you`re not."
DARYL: That letter that Amy`s mom wrote was very heart-felt. When I was reading it at my desk, I, you know, definitely got a little tinge of emotions in there.
HAMMER: Just as she was beginning to hit it big in the States, Amy Winehouse sat down with SHOWBIZ TONIGHT and told us her song "Rehab" was based on her real life and no, no, no, she really didn`t think she needed to go.
WINEHOUSE: I might as well at that time, just kind of stepped into it, being the good guys, like stepping in and strong arming me into a rehabilitation center, but she didn`t really need it.
HAMMER: But it wasn`t too long before we started seeing headline after headline of Amy`s alleged drug use with her husband, who now sits in jail on charges stemming from a bar fight. And, yes, she did go to rehab this past summer without much lasting success.
DARYL: It was funny at first. You know, I`m not going to go to rehab, no, no, no. Unfortunately, I think everyone is just thinking, man, she needs to listen to that and she needs to say yes, yes, yes.
HAMMER: And soon the young talent, whose voice took the world by storm, turned into this. In this heart-breaking video from a concert in Amy`s native England, we see a slurring, stumbling Amy Winehouse mumbling through her lyrics and actually getting booed off the stage by some of her fans.
DARYL: Her behavior is not just affecting her personal life, but it`s affecting her professional life as well.
HAMMER: Now, Winehouse has canceled all the concerts and public appearances for the rest of the year. But Winehouse`s mother says her family remains ready to help her. In her open letter, she writes, quote "All you have to do is come to us, Amy, and we`ll do everything in our power to get you well again. After all, you are still my baby and you always will be."
DARYL: This is definitely a hard time not only for Amy, but, obviously, for the family.
HAMMER: And although some, including Amy herself, have suggested that Amy`s troubles go hand in hand with her art -
UNIDENTIFIED MALE REPORTER: You can`t create good music without some drama in your life, right?
WINEHOUSE: I would say not.
HAMMER: The fear now is that Amy may join history`s list of talented musicians whose problems with addiction robbed us of their talent way, way too soon.
DARYL: We don`t want to lose, you know, any person, let alone someone that has so much talent.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: As if Amy Winehouse wasn`t bad enough, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is picking up the phone and calling celebrity rehab 911 because we need help here, fast. Shocking news today, that a man involved in Gary Collins` DUI accident has died just days after Collins was hauled off to jail. And a judge has issued a warrant for Daniel Baldwin`s arrest after he didn`t show up to give the court an update on how he is doing with his drug rehab.
Joining me tonight from Hollywood, Jane Velez-Mitchell, investigative journalist and author of the book "Secrets Can Be Murder." And joining me tonight in New York, Lola Ogunnaike, entertainment correspondent for CNN`s "AMERICAN MORNING." Lola, Jane, I appreciate you both being here.
Let`s start out with Amy Winehouse, and this remarkable contrast that she is in such bad shape just days after getting the six Grammy nominations and now you have this amazing and really heart-felt plea from her mom. Jane, tell me what can be done, if anything, to rescue her here?
JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Well, you know, that`s in her hands, A.J. This is living proof - Amy Winehouse is living proof that addiction has nothing to do with external circumstances. Here`s a woman swimming in Grammy nominations. She should be on top of the world.
Instead, she`s running around London in her underwear. And her mother has been forced to issue a public plea, "Darling, come home. We love you. We want to take care of you."
This is also an example of the wreckage that drugs create. It`s not a victimless crime. Look at this poor mother who has tried everything else and is now reduced to actually appealing to the tabloids to write a letter to her daughter. It`s horrifying.
But you know, that`s the way addiction is. You drink because it`s sunny. You drink because it`s rainy. You drink because you got nominations for Grammys. You drink because you didn`t. You use because your husband went to jail. You use because he got out of jail.
HAMMER: Yes, and you mentioned the walking around in London in her underwear. You know, when we saw that, we couldn`t help but draw these comparisons to Britney Spears. She`s been called the Britney Spears of London. And, of course, we saw Britney shaving her head when she was having a time of her own. What do you think, Lola? Who is in worse shape here, Britney or Amy? It`s both pretty ugly.
LOLA OGUNNAIKE, ENTERTAINMENT CORRESPONDENT FOR CNN`S "AMERICAN MORNING": Actually, you know what, A.J., I`m going to have to give it to Amy Winehouse. Even Britney at her worst, her mother never reached out to the press to facilitate a relationship. You know that you have hit beyond rock bottom when your mother has to go to the press to actually get you to even speak to her. And there`s no guarantee that that`s even worked. She`s unreachable right now.
And you know, the other thing that`s so unfortunate is that she is actually really talented. And whereas Britney Spears has always thrived on making upbeat dance music and all of her choreography, Amy Winehouse just has a beautiful, beautiful voice.
And most of her music and her lyrics come from a place of pain, so she may think to herself, "Well, I won`t be able to create necessarily if I get clean, so that may be another struggle that she`s dealing with right now.
HAMMER: That`s really sad, yes, and fed by the fact that, as we point the out in our story, her biggest hit, the "Rehab" song, was from her own personal experience.
Let`s talk about Gary Collins here because here is a guy - this is another really sad situation, a beloved television host. He just pleaded no contest to DUI last week, stemming from the car crash we was involved with. Now, he`s serving a 96-hour jail sentence.
And we just learned that the person who he crashed into has died. But we`re also told now Gary is not going to be facing manslaughter charges. Jane, help me understand that.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, it doesn`t make a lot of sense to me. Apparently it would be a case of double jeopardy because he has already pleaded no contest to DUI. Hello. What`s that about? People often have car accidents and linger months and months and die months later. So why isn`t there a contingency so that this family can get justice after the fact?
It doesn`t make a lot of sense to me. And I suspect that if he were some poor defendant and not some rich celebrity, they may have figured out a way to throw the book at him. Once again, we have a two tier system of justice in this country. One for celebrities and the affluent, and another one for everybody else.
HAMMER: And that has got to stop. All right. One last person we have to call celebrity rehab 911 on Daniel Baldwin. He`s been through rehab about 10 times already. And now, he is appearing in the upcoming VH1 show called "Celebrity Rehab." A judge wants Daniel arrested because he didn`t show up for a progress report. Lola Ogunnaike, Daniel says he`s out of the country shooting a movie. I say that`s a bad excuse.
OGUNNAIKE: The old, "I`m-out-of-the-country-filming-a-movie" excuse. I mean, come on, only an actor would be able to get away with something like that. At this point, he`s been in rehab ten times. Sobriety should be his first priority. The movies might actually be getting in the way. He should focus on staying sober before he tries to resurrect what semblance of an acting career he has left.
HAMMER: Let`s hope all of these guys get the celebrity rehab that they really indeed need. Jane Velez-Mitchell, Lola Ogunnaike, I appreciate you joining us tonight.
OGUNNAIKE: Thank you.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Thanks, A.J.
HAMMER: All right. So the outrage still at a fever pitch over the disgusting things that people have been saying about those photos of Jennifer Love Hewitt in a bikini. Now, Hayden Panettiere has gotten into the act. I`m going to tell you how Hayden is striking back against this ridiculous pressure to be stick thin. That is coming up. We`ll also have this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
PARIS HILTON, ACTRESS: The most humiliating experience of my life.
HAMMER: Oh, Paris, how could you narrow it down to just one? Paris names her most humiliating moment. You know what, she`s got plenty of company in cringe-worthy star history. The mix-ups, the mess-ups. Coming up, we are counting down the not to be missed five most humiliating celebrity moments ever.
And it`s the showbiz wedding watch. Two big celebrities this weekend and one of them didn`t make it to the altar. Well, one of three, anyway. I`ll tell you all about that still ahead on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Coming right back.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HAYDEN PANETTIERE, ACTRESS: Sometimes I have these days where you wake up and you`re like, "Oh my god, I look so horrible. I can`t take it. I look fat in everything."
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: That was "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere talking about the pressures that she feels to be thin. Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
Tonight the Hollywood war, a weight war explodes once again. Jennifer Love Hewitt fired back big-time over nasty comments that were made about her body. It is the cover of the new issue of "People" magazine, Hewitt saying, "Stop Calling Me Fat." Well now, Hayden Panettiere is joining in on Hewitt`s fight saying enough is enough. I couldn`t agree more.
Joining me tonight from New York, someone who feels the same way, model Emme, author of "What Are You Hungry For?" And from San Francisco tonight, editor-in-chief of "Commonsense Media," Liz Perle. Emme, Liz, thank you for both being here tonight.
We know this all started when a web site post this unflattering picture of Jennifer Love Hewitt with some really nasty comments. And I want to read to you again what Hewitt wrote on her blog, because I thought this was terrific.
She said, "I`ve sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women`s bodies are constantly scrutinized. To set the record straight, I`m not upset for me, but for all the girls out there struggling with their body image. A size two is not fat, nor will it ever be, and being a size zero doesn`t make you beautiful."
Well said. Well, now Hayden getting into the act as well. Here`s what Hayden tells "People.com," "It just goes to show you the pathetic people in this world. I give Jennifer Love Hewitt all the support in the world. She`s beautiful." Very well said. Emme, the women of Hollywood are just fed up, aren`t they?
EMME ARONSON, PLUS-SIZE MODEL: I would think so. It`s really sad that we go and get entertained by these beautiful women, talented women and at then every chance we can get, we do pot shots. I think it`s just unfair. It`s very, very unhealthy to do that.
I hope that people who are actually publishing these pictures and actually - you know, the crazy thing is that this is reality. Every woman, I think, has cellulite, and because of air brushing that`s out there and every time that you see an image, it`s always very, very made perfect. And whenever you see someone being natural and real, like all of us, it becomes a huge story. Hopefully, it doesn`t have to be that way going forward.
HAMMER: And we`ve talked about this time and time again, but, Liz Perle, for some reason Jennifer Love Hewitt`s comments have really hit a nerve, haven`t they?
LIZ PERLE, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, "COMMONSENSE MEDIA": They sure have, in part because look at the media. It does matter. It`s influencing our girls. Not just as a professional, but as a mom of a 17-year-old, you know, I want daughters like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hayden Panettiere because they`ve got their heads screwed on right. You know, these are as aspirational things to be beautiful or thin, perhaps, but the meaning -
ARONSON: It`s not everything.
PERLE: It sure isn`t. And the media is a super peer, and we`ve gotten to the point where it`s influenced little girls enough that the average age they start dieting now is age, or even younger.
ARONSON: Twenty years ago it was 14.
HAMMER: Yes. And I want to talk about that. First, I want to read to you more comments from Hayden Panettiere, because these are remarks that she made when she was at an event in Washington D.C.
She also said, "There are parts of my body that I don`t mind, and there are parts of my body that I absolutely can`t stand. And I don`t need somebody pointing them out to me! And the fact that you don`t have anything better to talk about than my thigh fat is absolutely absurd."
And of course, how terrible that this has to happen. And going back to something Liz was just saying, Emme, you know, you can elaborate on this. It`s a really dangerous thing that`s going here.
ARONSON: It is. It`s absolutely crazy. There`s so much more to someone`s value than just someone`s body part, for god`s sake. We`ve got to remember that when we reflect just images over and over again with products or whatever and now we`re starting to shed light in such a negative way on these incredible gifted entertainers, that even the entertainers themselves are afraid to go beyond a size zero or size two, you start driving kids and young - very young children at age 5 start questioning, "Do I have too much fat on my body?" What`s going on?" Because that`s all they hear when the TV is on or when the magazines are open. And it`s a very, very dangerous plight in our country right now.
HAMMER: Let me ask you this, Emme, because we certainly have championed this issue here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT -
ARONSON: Thank you.
HAMMER: Talking about the weight issue and how things need to change in terms of the message that`s out there. But sometimes I`ve got to tell you, I feel like I`m banging my head against the wall. What needs to be done here?
ARONSON: I think we really need to write our letters. We need to get - and sit down with our girls and their friends and say what ads promote good self-esteem? What ads tear it down? Tear out the ads. Send them in. Talk to your magazines through letters because we`re the subscribers. We give them money to stay alive and afloat.
If we don`t use our voices - and we also don`t need to buy any of those magazines and bring them home or watch the television shows that only tear down, you know, the young ladies and women in Hollywood or anybody else. We need to be able to use our voices and make it heard loud and clear.
HAMMER: I`ve got to wrap you up there, Emme, but I guess we also need to also just keep talking about it and hope we`re making difference.
ARONSON: Oh, yes.
HAMMER: Emme and Liz Perle, I appreciate you being here tonight.
PERLE: Thank you.
HAMMER: Well, last night, we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT Question of the Day, "Hollywood and body image: Are women`s bodies scrutinized unfairly?" Here`s how it went. Yes, look at that, ninety-one percent of you say yes. Nine percent of you say no.
Among the e-mails, we received one from Sandy in Florida who writes, "It`s disgusting that we point fingers at stars with cellulite and saddle bags. However, I think the criticism is a necessary reminder of how out of shape the rest of us truly are." Interesting.
OK. Nancy in Minnesota writing, "People should stop showing skinny images to the public, because if God made us all the same shape and size, it wouldn`t be fun."
HAMMER: So what do you think it takes to embarrass Paris Hilton?
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HILTON: The most humiliating experience of my life.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Believe it or not, she is not talking about that sex tape that got out there. Paris names her most humiliating moment, and she`s got plenty of company in cringe-worthy star history. We`ve got the mix-ups, the mess- ups all coming up as we count down the five most humiliating celebrity moments ever.
HAMMER: Also, Oprah on the campaign trail. You know, she tells you to read a book, it`s an instant best seller. She says she likes a certain brand of moisturizing lotion, it sells out. But can the power of Oprah get Obama elected? That is coming up next.
And tonight, it`s the showbiz wedding watch. Two big celebrity weddings and one that didn`t happen that was supposed to. Exactly who tied the knot and who did not? I will tell you, coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: So, Oprah Winfrey has hit the campaign trail. Oprah spent the weekend campaigning with Barack Obama with big rallies and speeches in South Carolina, Iowa and New Hampshire. Oprah said she doesn`t know what effect she`ll actually have on the election. It`s just the first time she`s been inspired by a candidate enough to get involved.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WINFREY: So much has been said about what my jumping into this arena does or does not bring to the table of politics. I really don`t know. I`m going to leave that all up to the pundits who all say, "Will it be the same influence as a book club? Will it be like the favorite things show?" I don`t know about all of that.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: It will be interesting to see what happens. Oprah also said she does note the difference between giving away free refrigerators and getting involved with politics. And she just feels compelled to stand up and speak out for Barack Obama.
And now, we`d like to hear from you on the subject for our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day, "Oprah campaigns for Obama: Will she influence your vote?" Let us know what you think at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. You can also e-mail us with more, if you have more to say, showbiztonight@CNN.com. You can always do that from your desktop or your laptop or your Blackberry or your cell phone. Whatever device you have and whatever you want to tell us.
It is the five most humiliating celebrity moments ever. Paris Hilton made the list, of course. What do you think it actually takes to humiliate someone who didn`t really seem to mind that her sex tape came out? But Paris is only the beginning. Coming up, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT counts down the most cringe-worthy, blush-inducing, most humiliating celebrity moments ever.
And Scott Baio is no longer 45 and single. Oh no. He actually took the plunge over the weekend. There was another big celebrity wedding as well, and, oh yes, one we thought was going to happen that actually didn`t end up happening. It`s the showbiz wedding watch coming up. Also this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
RYAN PHILLIPPE: I ran over 150 combat missions no, complaint. I honored my contract, and I expect the army to do the same.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Looks like such a powerful movie. Wow. Ryan Phillippe is a soldier who refuses to go back to Iraq for another tour of duty. Yes, we`ve got your first look at "Stop Loss." You won`t want to miss it. Coming up.
(NEWS BREAK)
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, "The Most Humiliating Celebrity Moments Ever."
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HILTON: The most humiliating experience of my life.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Paris Hilton - I mean, she is the queen of embarrassing moments, right? But there are so many more. The most shocking, the ones that I can barely stand to watch them. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT counts down "The Top Five Most Humiliating Celebrity Moments Ever."
The showbiz wedding watch. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT reveals the stunning stories behind some big celebrity weddings. The surprise guests at one of the weddings who probably couldn`t stop crying, and the big star marriage that was reportedly supposed to happen but didn`t. Tonight the show biz wedding watch.
(MUSIC)
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City. You are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.
Tonight, a show biz special report, "The Top Five Most Humiliating Celebrity Moments Ever." SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is counting down for you the five most cringe-worthy moments of Hollywood humiliation caught on tape. You don`t want to go away for a moment of this. Let`s get right to it.
Joining me tonight from Hollywood, "TV Guide" host, Daphne Brogdon. Also in Hollywood tonight "Extra" correspondent, Carlos Diaz, and in New York tonight, "Star" magazine editor-at-large Julia Allison. Well, we have some fun to get to tonight, gang, so let`s start off with one of the most iconic humiliating moments of all time. Number five on our list, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s list of the top five most humiliating celebrity moments ever, as you see, Janet Jackson and the infamous nipple-gate incident.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER (voice over): Ah, yes. The infamous Janet Jackson performance with Justin Timberlake at the 2004 Super Bowl. Timberlake was supposed to pull off her clothing to reveal a red bra. And instead, whoops, she apologized profusely for revealing her nipple, but nipple-gate is a special and humiliating little piece of Hollywood history.
JANET JACKSON, SINGER: Very, very special.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes, Janet, very special indeed. A defining moment, if I may say, in our history. Carlos Diaz, it changed the world, didn`t it?
CARLOS DIAZ, "EXTRA" CORRESPONDENT: You mean Janet Jackson showed her boob on TV. What? Yes, this was scary for several reasons. Most scary because it turned out to be the most Tivo-ed thing ever in the history of Tivo. And I didn`t know that Tivo knew what I was rewinding and pausing. So, it was pretty embarrassing for me, you know?
HAMMER: And we`re still talking about it. Julia, it was so humiliating for her, to be sure. Didn`t hurt her career one bit, did it?
JULIA ALLISON, EDITOR-AT-LARGE "STAR" MAGAZINE: No. I mean, you know, what hurts her career is when she doesn`t put out albums. But this is the woman who, if you remember, posed on the cover of "Rolling Stone" with a guy holding her breast. If he had just moved his hand a little bit. What was embarrassing was that she probably considered it performance art, and no one else did.
HAMMER: Daphne Brogdon, do you think that`s what she was thinking because I kind of think she was mortified beyond belief?
DAPHNE BROGDON, TV HOST: I think it was ill-timed - ill thought out. But also, I don`t think she put it in the context of exactly what Carlos is talked about, the Tivo age.
Because we didn`t have Tivo when (UNINTELLIGIBLE) scandal, and it actually did have repercussions in television. I know that there were shows that I was part of, or would have been a part of. And everybody got very, like, "Ah, the moral police are watching us. You know, we have to be more careful." All because of Janet`s ta-ta.
HAMMER: But I totally remember that - Wait, what just happened? And I believe you just said ta-ta on my show. So let`s move on now very quickly with the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT top five most humiliating moments ever because it gets bigger. Number four on our list, it`s a Paris Hilton moment.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HILTON: Like obsessed. You`re always filming.
HAMMER (voice over): Oh, yes. Paris and the infamous sex tape. Talk about humiliating. She let her ex film her in the sack, and he leaked it to the public.
HILTON: Ew.
HAMMER: But guess what? That wasn`t Paris`s most humiliating moment. Turns out, it was when she got strip-searched right before her stint in jail. That`s what she told CNN`s Larry King.
HILTON: The most humiliating experience of my life. I never have had to do that in front of someone you don`t even know.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. So, She cites the strip-search. We`ve got to say it was the sex tape, though, because Carlos, quite frankly, we didn`t get to see the strip-search. Are you with me?
DIAZ: I`m with you on that one, my man. That`s the thing. The strip- search is one person, you know. The sex tape, millions of people saw you naked and performing, so, you know, I mean, you can`t really equate the two there, Paris.
HAMMER: Yes. Julia Allison?
ALLISON: Well, I think she`s just mad that she didn`t make any money off of her strip-search, you know. But I mean, for me, if I were Paris Hilton, I would be most embarrassed by my dad being aware that I had sex at one point, you know.
HAMMER: I have to say, though, Daphne, and you may agree with me, it was pretty hard to narrow this one down.
BROGDON: Well, it`s also amazing that she isn`t humiliated by having to go to jail, violating parole. You know, things like that. But I think that the panelists are all correct - is that she just wished it had been videotaped and she could have sold the DVD.
HAMMER: Yes, I agree with you on that. I think, you know, hopefully, she`ll look back in 20 years at this time in her life and will be more humiliated about all of what`s happening than anything else in its entirety.
Let`s move on to number three, shall we? It is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s list of "The Top Five Most Humiliating Celebrity Moments Ever." Let us reveal that it is Britney Spears. Yes. You knew she was going to be on this list.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER (voice over): Ah, Britney`s most humiliating moment. Hmm, which shall it be? Perhaps her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Or could it be when she decided to shave her head bald for all the world to see? Oh, no. By far, Britney`s most humiliating moment has to be this. Countless paparazzi shots of the pop tart going commando. No panties, and evidently, no shame.
SPEARS: Where is the party at?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: No shame, indeed. Here`s the thing. It certainly was the panty- less party, and that was pretty easy. But after she got caught once, she did it again. Carlos, does she even understand the word humiliating?
DIAZ: No. In fact, she`s already going strong into 2008. Just this weekend, she stole a big lighter from a convenience store in Sherman Oaks, California. So she`s not stopping in `07. We`ll be talking about her again in `08 with several more embarrassing moments to come.
HAMMER: Oh yes, you think? Julia Allison, again, these are the most humiliating moments for these stars, but was it for her?
ALLISON: Yes, now, Britney can just circle 2007 on her calendar and write human humiliation extreme. You know, what`s humiliating for Britney is that everyone wanted to see that for years and years and years. And now, they`re seeing it, and they`re, like, "No, please, get away. No."
HAMMER: Daphne Brogdon, what do you say? I mean, we got this one right. I mean, I was going through all of my notes of all the various Britney - by the way, it`s a book this thick. But I think we`ll give you this one now.
BROGDON: Well, don`t forget driving with your kid in the front lap. I mean, as a mother, that`s particularly abhorrent that she would put her kid in danger. I mean, really, her private area wasn`t really in danger, so I agree -
HAMMER: Driving with the kid in the front seat there, that`s just plain stupid.
BROGDON: Yes, but, I mean, it can all be humiliating that she`s not a good mother. That`s humiliating.
HAMMER: Maybe she can learn a little humility of some kind. I don`t think so. Let`s go to number two now, because this is just one of my favorite little things to take a look at. We are continuing with SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s list of "The Top Five Most Humiliating Celebrity Moments Ever." Ashlee Simpson right here at number two.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ASHLEE SIMPSON, SINGER (sung): On a Monday I am waiting
HAMMER (voice over): Poor Ashlee Simpson. She got caught red handed lip synching on "Saturday Night Live." She made up for the error by making it worse with a weird little Irish jig. What the heck was that? Well, then she just gave up and ran off the stage, but if that wasn`t bad enough, she took it a step further and blamed it on acid reflux.
SIMPSON: So the rumor says. Who knows?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: I just love watching that, and I can watch it over and over. Here`s another case of being totally out of touch with reality. Carlos Diaz, do you think other than Ashlee Simpson, anybody would have believed her lips didn`t sync because of acid reflux?
DIAZ: A.J., I`m just kind of mad about this whole story, OK, because the show that she was on was very ambiguous about whether they were going to be live or not. I mean, the title alone, "Saturday Night Live."
Oh, yes, that kind of is a giveaway, isn`t it? You are going to be live, and you shouldn`t lip sync. Maybe. I don`t know.
HAMMER: Julia Allison?
ALLISON: Really the jig is the best part of that whole thing, but Ashlee is another case where look at her entire career. Can you narrow it down to one most humiliating moment? She`s dating Pete Wenz.
HAMMER: Hold on a second here. I`m sorry, because this is hard. We have the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT staffers hard at work today compiling all of the research, and we`re trying to get it right. But I do appreciate you chiming in on that. Daphne Brogdon, did it surprise you that Ashlee`s career didn`t go the way of Milli Vanilli? Now, of course, we need to keep in mind Ashlee Simpson does actually sing, and she was lip syncing to her own voice on the track, but, still, you know, the jig.
BROGDON: Oh, just a moment, I was going to say an aria but I had a hiccup. Yes, you know, I think really what helped save it is her nose job. Because it took the attention away from her lip syncing and put the attention on, "Gosh, she looks great after that nose job." She kind of changed her whole look. The blonde hair and everything. She`s looking all cute and that helped her.
HAMMER: All right. But the Pete Wenz comment, I think I have to make sure we note that for this one. Well, I think we`ve accomplished a lot here with numbers five, four, three, and two, but I know everybody is sitting around wondering just what is the number one most humiliating celebrity moment ever? Well, you do not want to go anywhere because we will reveal all, coming up next here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Also, the showbiz wedding watch. Yes. People really do get married in Hollywood. You`ve got to be married, of course, to get divorced. And tonight, fortunately, I have really happy news about one guy who finally tied the knot, and as a result he is actually going to have to change the name of his television show. That doesn`t happen all that often.
Plus, we have for you the big star wedding that was reportedly supposed to happen, but didn`t. That is coming up. We`ll also have this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: I have orders to report to the first brigade.
PHILLIPPE: Not me. I`m getting out today.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: You leave on the 22nd, shipping back to Iraq. You`ve been on stop loss.
HAMMER: I`ve got to tell you, this is a movie that I think really, really hits so close to home right now, Ryan Philippe starring as a soldier who served his country in Iraq. He held up his end of the deal, like so many soldiers have, but the army did not hold up theirs. They want to ship him back. It`s a really, really powerful film. You will not want to miss your show biz first look at "Stop Loss." It`s coming up next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Tomorrow on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the year`s "Top Five Celebrity Meltdowns." A no holds barred look at the moments that made us cringe at 11:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is counting down "The Top Five Most Humiliating Star Moments Ever." Let us now recap, shall we? At number five on our list, Janet Jackson and the Super Bowl nipple-gate scandal. At number four was Paris Hilton and her jail strip-search. Number three, Britney Spears and her panty-less partying. Number two on her list Ashlee Simpson and that lip syncing fiasco on "Saturday Night Live."
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Tonight it`s our special report. We are picking "The Top Five Most Humiliating Celebrity Moments Ever." Who could possibly be number one?
Well, let`s get right to it. At least let`s bring back our coast- to-coast panel. In Hollywood, "TV Guide" host and standup comic Daphne Brogdon. Also "Extra" correspondent Carlos Diaz, and joining me tonight in New York, editor-at-large for "Star" magazine, Julia Allison.
All right, gang, we are at that point, the much-awaited announcement of the number one most humiliating celebrity moment ever. May have a drum roll please? It is Hugh Grant for his little indiscretion with a Hollywood hooker.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER (voice over): There really cannot be a more humiliating moment in Hollywood history than when Hugh Grant got caught red handed with a prostitute. The media went wild.
DAVID LETTERMAN, HOST, "LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN": If something like this ever happened to me, and believe me, it`s just a matter of time -
HAMMER: Especially the late shows.
HUGH GRANT, ACTOR: I`m told that you have been very restrained and limited yourself to just 12 jokes a night.
HAMMER: But Grant was nothing but apologetic through the whole ordeal.
GRANT: I don`t have anything more to say except I`m very sorry.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. So he said he was sorry. The public still forgave him, but still pretty embarrassing, Carlos, don`t you think?
DIAZ: That`s the key, though. You know, no one really remembers what he said to - nobody remembers the reason he gave for doing what he did. Everybody remembers, though, that he did apologize, and that`s the key. Everybody remembers Jay Leno of saying, "What were you thinking?" And then he had he that look on his face. So, the key here is, you know, own up to it. If you have an embarrassing moment, just own up to it.
HAMMER: Yes. You say, you know, what was he thinking? Think about it. He was dating one of the most beautiful women in the world at the time, Elizabeth Hurley, and he hooks up with a hooker. That has got to be pretty horrible, Julia.
ALLISON: Not just a hooker, but I`m sorry to say this, one that looks like that. I think that was probably one of the most humiliating parts of it. But here`s the thing. Unlike all of the other celebrities we`ve talked about today, this was the one blight on Hugh Grant`s perfect, flawless, delicious British Brad Pitt career. So everyone thought what? Her? Really?
HAMMER: Daphne, wrap it up real quickly, and that is the point with all of these people. Their careers are generally still unaffected by all that has happened.
BROGDON: As long as they still bring it. And you know, Hugh Grant brings a nice woman, weepy films that we love to see, and, aww. He handled it right.
HAMMER: Yes. But I feel humiliated for him still to this day.
BROGDON: We know why he did it.
HAMMER: Daphne Brodgon, Carlos Diaz, Julia Allison, thanks for having some fun with us tonight. I appreciate it.
DIAZ: No problem.
HAMMER: Now we have to move on to your showbiz first look. It`s a powerful film with Ryan Philippe, Reese Witherspoon`s ex, who`s starring in "Stop Loss," playing a soldier excited about a return home from a long tour of duty in Iraq, only to be ordered back. And needless to say, that makes him really, really mad, and it gets him questioning everything that he believes in. And ultimately, he says no to going back.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
PHILIPPE: I was thinking I was going over there to protect my country. She sent this to me yesterday.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: She and I will make some cute Tex-Mex babies.
PHILLIPPE: Everything has turned out so different than what we thought.
(MUSIC)
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Brandon (UNINTELLIGIBLE) King, you have orders to report to the first brigade.
PHILLIPPE: Not me. I`m getting out today.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: You leave on the 22nd,.shipping back to Iraq. You have been on stop loss.
(MUSIC)
PHILLIPPE: I ran over 150 combat missions no complaint. I honored my contract, and I expect the army to do the same.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: What the hell has happened to these guys?
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: With a shortage of guys and no draft, they`re shipping back soldiers that are supposed to be getting out.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: You are a spook. It` there`s no shame in that.
PHILLIPPE: I ain`t scared. This family is done fighting this war.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: The way I see it, (UNINTELLIGIBLE)
UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: I can`t go another year without having him touch my face.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Here`s your new id. You go, you are gone for good.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: We`ll knock out another tour, and we`ll come home. Nothing we did over there bothers you at all?
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Your country needs you to go back. You know it`s the right thing to do.
PHILLIPPE: Sir, I`ve always done the right thing, and this is wrong.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: I`m not going back. I`m fighting this thing.
PHILIPPE: This isn`t about the war! This is about you and me and everybody else standing side-by-side.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: Well, this stop loss policy of not letting military personnel leave the army once their required service is over obviously has gotten a lot of people really, really fired up. "Stop Loss," the movie, will be opening in March of 2008, and I`m sure it will strike a chord.
Well, I can`t believe it. Actual, real-life Hollywood marriages that have taken place, and they`re not over yet. Coming up next, I`ve got the inside story on two big celebrity weddings. One, well, it was supposed to happen, but didn`t. Who did, and who did not walk down the aisle? That`s coming up next.

HAMMER: Well, I`ve got to tell you, it was a big weekend for celebrity marriages including one that was reportedly supposed to happen, but it didn`t. First up, though, Scott Baio and his now wife.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SCOTT BAIO, ACTOR: I am ready to get married.
RENEE SLOAN, BAIO`S LONG TIME GIRLFRIEND: So am I.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. She said so am I. The "Happy Days" and "Charles in Charge" star proposed to his girlfriend, Renee Sloan, on the season finale of his VH1 show called "Scott Baio Is 45 and Single." Yes, she also told him that she was pregnant. They tied the knot on Saturday in Los Angeles. We hear the baby was there as well.
But now, I`m thinking they`re going to have to change the show`s title. Maybe now I`m thinking it should be since "Scott is Married," "Charles Not in Charge." Let`s just move on, shall we? Back Street Boy Howie Dorough, married his long-time girlfriend in his hometown of Orlando, Florida. That also happened on Saturday. He proposed to her last New Year`s. They were dating for six years. So, Howie, we say it`s about time, and we`re happy for you.
And now on to a boy band boy who did not tie the knot. There were these reports floating around out there that 98 Degrees singer and, of course, Jessica Simpson`s used-to-be hubby, Nick Lachey and former MTV host Vanessa Minnillo were going to be getting married. They were totally wrong, these reports. Nick`s rep said they weren`t even in the same area code. Nick and Vanessa, not married.
