Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City. And get out the fire extinguishers, an explosion today on "The View."
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SHERRI SHEPHERD, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": I don`t appreciate the way you are talking to her. I mean, nobody is attacking him. You didn`t have to talk to her like that.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I wasn`t here -
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: An amazing confrontation today between the ladies of "The View" and conservative lightning rod author Ann Coulter. Did Barbara Walters kick Coulter off the live show? Wait until you see and hear what happened. We`re going to show that to you, coming up.
But first, amazing stories from the Golden Globes. And I do mean amazing. Of course, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was right there to witness something we never thought we`d see. Stories of personal triumph over tragedy. Stories of beloved stars getting what they deserved for a long time. And other stories so improbable even Hollywood`s best writers could not have made them up. And they`re all the stories that are making big news right now.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
(voice over): There was tragedy and tears.
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, DIRECTOR, "THE DARK KNIGHT": All of us who worked with Heath on "The Dark Knight" accept this with an awful mixture of sadness but incredible pride.
HAMMER: Cinderella stories and amazing comebacks.
ROURKE: It`s been a very long road back for me.
HAMMER: The Golden Globes ceremony was more than just an award show. It was like several movies in one with a number of amazing, touching stories all played out in front of 14 million viewers.
ALICIA QUARLES, ASSOCIATED PRESS: The Golden Globes were amazing this year because of all of the stories. You had the comeback kid, Mickey Rourke. You have "Slumdog Millionaire," a movie that a lot of the masses hadn`t heard of. And of course, you`ve got those winners who you thought, "Huh?"
HAMMER: One Golden Globe story could be called, "Gone, But Not Forgotten," starring Heath Ledger.
DEMI MOORE, ACTRESS: Heath Ledger, "The Dark Knight."
HAMMER: The dramatic highlight of the night was Ledger`s posthumous win for best supporting actor for his role as The Joker in "The Dark Knight." Ledger died suddenly from an accidental prescription drug overdose almost a year ago. Accepting his award, The Dark Knight`s director paid a touching tribute.
NOLAN: After Heath passed on, you saw a hole ripped in the future of cinema. He will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten.
HAMMER: Before the ceremony, Heath`s "Dark Knight" co-star Aaron Eckhart told SHOWBIZ TONIGHT everyone was thinking about Ledger.
AARON ECKHART, ACTOR: I just think this whole room and all the actors, and people who work in film are rooting for Heath and love Heath. So I`m considering it his night tonight.
QUARLES: This was more significant than just a win. It`s was a tribute to this guy who has gone too soon, this wonderful actor who didn`t really have time to blossom.
HAMMER: Another big Golden Globe story, we`ll call "Feast or Famine," starring Kate Winslet.
JENNIFER LOPEZ, SINGER AND ACTRESS: Kate Winslet -
CAMERON DIAZ, ACTRESS: Kate Winslet -
HAMMER: She won two Golden Globes, a veritable feast considering she had been nominated five times in the last 12 years without a single win.
KATE WINSLET, ACTRESS: You have to forgive me because I`m - I have a habit of not winning things.
HAMMER: The second time around, She was even more (UNINTELLIGIBLE).
WINSLET: Thank you so much.
HAMMER: But the most enduring story of the Golden Globes was triumph of the underdog.
JOHNNY DEPP, ACTOR: Sally Hawkins, "Happy-Go-Lucky."
HAMMER: Sally who?
QUARLES: I`m an entertainment reporter and I barely knew who Sally Hawkins was.
HAMMER: In winning Best Actress in a Musical or a Comedy for her role in "Happy-Go-Lucky," little-known English actress Sally Hawkins beat out superstars like Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson. Yes, she couldn`t believe it either.
SALLY HAWKINS, ACTRESS: Thank you so much. The Hollywood foreign press - sorry.
SUSAN SARANDON, ACTRESS: And the Golden Globe goes to - Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler."
HAMMER: And another underdog, Mickey Rourke, named best actor for his role in "The Wrestler" after having spent years as a Hollywood pariah.
QUARLES: Mickey Rourke was so hot in the `80s. He was on the level of Tom Cruise in his heyday. But then he started acting up, and there were police reports. And his career really suffered. Now, he takes a star turn in "The Wrestler" and he wins a Golden Globe. It`s a Cinderella story.
HAMMER: Fittingly, this underdog actually thanked his dogs in his speech.
ROURKE: Sometimes when a man is alone, that`s all you got - is your dogs.
HAMMER: But the most triumphant underdog of the night was a slumdog.
TOM CRUISE, ACTOR: And the Golden Globe goes to - "Slumdog Millionaire."
HAMMER: "Slumdog Millionaire," a movie about a poor kid in India who competes in that country`s version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," won all four Golden Globes it was nominated for, including best drama.
UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: I would look to phone a friend -
QUARLES: "Slumdog Millionaire" is really the little movie that could.
HAMMER: All of these stories made for a dramatic Golden Globe Awards show. And who knows? We might even see more real life drama in next month`s Academy Awards.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
There were just so many amazing stories including triumph over tragedy. Golden Globe Awards really did read like some great movie script.
And joining me tonight from Hollywood is Ken Baker, who is the executive news editor for "E!" Also from Hollywood tonight, "Extra`s" Dayna Devon.
All right, guys. I`d like to begin with Heath Ledger. This was just a great moment. He posthumously wins best supporting actor just as we are approaching the one year anniversary of his sudden, and of course, very tragic death. Ken, this is just an amazing story, isn`t it?
KEN BAKER, EXECUTIVE EDITOR, "E!": It really was. It was definitely the most dramatic moment of the night for me. And I think for everyone in the ballroom, it was as well. That standing ovation that he did receive was so genuine. You have to remember that room was filled with actors and actors really respected Heath Ledger to a great degree.
And I think that that award by him winning that posthumously - it was entirely appropriate. And what also was interesting about it is they played for his acceptance. They played a clip from "The Dark Knight." And it was a clip where he is meeting face-to-face with Batman. And he delivers the line, "You complete me." Evil needing some good. And Everyone laughed.
And it was such a brilliant way to capture essence of Heath Ledger which was - you know, he is the kind of actor who could be dramatic and very dark in one moment and just turn it like that into a comedic moment. And I thought it was just really a memorable moment for the Golden Globes.
HAMMER: Yes. You make a great point. What a great clip to play at the big Hollywood party. Now, Chris Nolan directed Heath in "The Dark Knight." And at the Globes, accepting the award for Heath, Chris talked about the days after Heath`s death and how people were feeling. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
NOLAN: After Heath passed on, you saw a hole ripped in the future of cinema. But with the extraordinary response to his work that we have seen all the over the world, I, for one, started to be able to look a bit less at that gap in the future and a little bit more at the incredible place in the history of cinema that he built for himself.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: And that place in history really could get even more amazing. The Oscar nominations get handed out next week on the anniversary of Heath`s death. Dayna, should we just be shocked if Heath is not nominated for an Oscar?
DAYNA DEVON, CORRESPONDENT, "EXTRA": I think you can be absolutely shocked. I don`t like to predict much when it comes to the Oscars because I really think anything goes. But I would be so absolutely surprised if he isn`t not only nominated, but if he doesn`t take home the Oscar gold. Like you said, the nominations will be announced next Thursday. And if people have Oscar pools at their office, I would put Heath Ledger down for an Oscar statuette.
HAMMER: Yes. I think this is one case where the Globes definitely can work as an indicator of who the nominations will be for, for the Academy Awards.
Let`s move on now to Kate Winslet`s amazing story - really an amazing night overall for she finally wins twice in one night after five previous nominations and no wins. Ken, why do you think this was Kate`s amazing year?
BAKER: I think Kate has really come into her own. I had the great fortune of running into her on the red carpet, standing right next to her. She has such a commanding presence.
And I think if you look at all the interviews she has given - she even told "E!" this recently that she really feels as though her craft has been perfected to a degree where she feels so comfortable, perhaps even doing love scenes in front of her husband with another man - with Leo DiCaprio.
She just seems so mature and has just reached that point. And also, I think that people respect her to a degree because of that. And so I think that to me makes a big difference.
HAMMER: Yes. And there`s a lot of humility there, too. She really loves what she does and appreciates what she has.
Now, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was right there backstage at the Golden Globes as Kate was working really hard to collect herself after winning her second Golden Globe. You`ve got to watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WINSLET: I was so shocked to win one. And two - I mean I am so honestly - I can`t believe it. I absolutely cannot believe it. It is honestly amazing.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Dayna, Kate had better prepare an acceptance speech for the Academy Awards. She didn`t prepare any for last night. But she probably should for the Oscars, no?
DEVON: I agree. Her performances are definitely Oscar-worthy. I mean, she has done such a great job this year. And I really think the stars kind of aligned for her working for both her husband and with Leo DiCaprio. You know, make no mistake - the Oscar voters were watching last night, and some could be filling out their ballots as we speak.
The nominations announced next week, like you mentioned earlier, and she is definitely the one to beat at this moment. And she is really deserving of it.
HAMMER: Yes. Again, a great indicator, I think, of what we are going to see at Oscar nominations. Even though, Dayna, as you pointed out, some others don`t like to make predictions.
DEVON: Right.
HAMMER: Ken Baker, Dayna Devon, I thank you both.
Now, I would love to hear from you. Here is our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. It`s one of our favorites here, "`30 Rock` Sweeps the Globes: Is it the best comedy on television?" Well, let us know what you think at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. You can also E-mail us at showbiztonight@cnn.com.
And coming up, we have more of SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s continuing coverage, SHOWBIZ at the Globes. There were so many shocking things that did and did not happen. There were jokes flying about drug abuse and the holocaust. Yes.
Also, stars sticking their middle fingers up and their tongues out. And then, you`ve got Leo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, even Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie getting shut out of the award. What?
Well, there were fireworks on "The View." All hell breaks loose between Ann Coulter and the ladies of "The View." It`s an all-out war. Did they really kick the controversial conservative columnist off set? We`ve also got this -
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MICHELLE OBAMA, INCOMING UNITED STATES FIRST LADY: This is the woman who keeps me grounded, who stays at home with my girls and makes sure that they`re OK. I love you.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: That woman Michelle Obama is talking about is her mom. And tonight, I can tell you she`s moving into the White House. Yes. You heard me right. Barack Obama`s mother-in-law will be calling 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home, sweet, home. Really?
And now it is time for the SHOWBIZ News Ticker, more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom, making news right now.
(CAPTION READS: Golden Globe winner for Best Television Series-Drama: AMC`s "Mad Men." Golden Globe winner form Best TV Mini-Series or Film: HBO`s "John Adams.")
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GINA GERSHON, ACTRESS: I can`t wait. I can`t wait. I want January 20th to, to occur already. I will tell you I`ll just say good luck to him. I wouldn`t want his job. But thank God he is here.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Gina Gershon on Barack Obama. His inauguration, of course, just one week away.
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer. And it is time now for the "SHOWBIZ Obama Watch." And tonight, I can tell you the search for the new first dog might be coming to an end.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BARACK OBAMA, UNITED STATES PRESIDENT-ELECT: Well, they seem to have narrowed it down to a Labradoodle or Portuguese Water Hound.
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS, ANCHOR, "THIS WEEK": Medium-sized?
B. OBAMA: Medium-sized dog. And so, we are now going to start looking at shelters to see when one of those - one of those dogs might come up.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So you are closing in on it?
B. OBAMA: We`re closing in on it. This has been tougher than finding a commerce secretary.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. There you have it. President-elect Barack Obama on ABC`s "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" revealing that he`s narrowed down the doggy search to one of these - a Labradoodle which is half Labrador and half poodle and Portuguese Water Hound. No mention of the Malta-poo. I guess it lost out.
Some other big Obama news tonight. I can tell you that Barack`s mother-in-law is moving into the White House with him. Yes, really. Here`s CNN`s Erica Hill for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
ERICA HILL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: She is the silent supporter; the grandmother who quit her job to make sure her young granddaughters could have a normal life of school, tennis and piano lessons while their parents were stumping for votes across the country.
M. OBAMA: There is nothing that makes me rest more, now that I have to work, than to know that my kids are being loved and cared for by someone who`s teaching them values and discipline, and giving them a little extra candy every now and then.
HILL: A role Michelle Obama`s mother, Marian Robinson, told the "Boston Globe" she was more than happy to take on.
MARIAN ROBINSON, MICHELLE OBAMA`S MOTHER: I`m doing it, but I really want to do it. It`s not even a job. It`s like, somebody`s going to be with these kids other than their parents, it better be me.
HILL: And she will continue to be there for Sasha and Malia. The Obama transition team confirmed the president-elect`s mother-in-law is already in Washington, helping the family get settled, and she`ll move with them to the White House.
Of course, it won`t be the first time the Obamas lived with Mrs. Robinson, as the president-elect told Steve Kroft in an interview with "60 Minutes" shortly after the election.
B. OBAMA: Right here is my mother-in- law`s house, the house that Michelle grew up in. And we lived on the second floor before we could afford our own apartment. This is the favorite place to hang out for my two daughters.
STEVE KROFT, "60 MINUTES": Really?
B. OBAMA: They still love coming over to grandma`s house where she basically lets them get away with anything they want.
HILL: Whether Grandma will stay in their new home remains to be seen. According to the transition team, the move to Washington is not permanent, at least not yet. What is clear - Marian Robinson is a rock for the entire Obama family.
M. OBAMA: I want my mommy to stand up. This is the woman who keeps me grounded, who stays at home with my girls and makes sure that they`re OK. I love you.
HILL: On election night, that same strength and love obvious in these moments, captured in time as 71-year-old Marian Robinson watched the historic election returns with her son-in-law, soon to be the 44th president of the United States.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: That was CNN`s Erica Hill for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Now, I also want to let you know SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is going to be right there in Washington, D.C. for Barack Obama`s presidential inauguration. This is expected to be the most star-studded one ever. SHOWBIZ at the inauguration right here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Well, the "Showbiz On Call" phone lines have been ringing nonstop. Lots of people calling in about Oprah Winfrey`s brand new 200-pound weight battle. Here now is Rose calling from Minnesota.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
ROSE, CALLER FROM MINNESOTA: I am totally in support of Oprah and the problems that she is having because it just shows she is human. Why does she have to be the perfect weight? What is the perfect weight for a woman her size? Her age? People should stop being so critical.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
HAMMER: Appreciate your call, rose. We also heard from Daphne calling in from California.
DAPHNE, CALLER FROM CALIFORNIA: It`s hard to feel sorry for her when she is a multibillionaire. And most of us are struggling to keep jobs. I don`t know. I think the message would have been stronger if she would have included people who are struggling with weight and maybe helped them - helped them get into an exercise program. We don`t have the benefit of having personal trainers and stuff like she does.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
HAMMER: Well, we appreciate you taking the time to call us with your opinion, too, Daphne. You, too, can call us at "Showbiz On Call" to let us know what you think this or anything else that`s on your mind. The "Showbiz On Call" phone lines always open - 1-888-SBT-BUZZ is the number; that`s 1-888-728-2899. Call the number so you can leave us a voicemail. That way we can play your call right here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Also, your calls to "Showbiz On Call" now online on our homepage, which is CNN.com/ShowbizTonight.
I got to tell you it was pretty incredible, major fireworks on "The View" today. Controversial, conservative author Ann Coulter squaring off against all the ladies on "The View." Did they actually end up kicking Coulter off the show?
Also, more of our continuing coverage, SHOWBIZ at the Globes. I cannot believe how many shocking things happened at this year`s Golden Globe Awards. We are talking jokes about drug abuse and the Holocaust. You had stars sticking up their middle finger and sticking their tongues out.
And then, Leo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, even Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie getting shut out of awards. Amazing.
Alec Baldwin won another Golden Globe. Tonight, though, brand new revelations of his battle with the bottle. Plus, the incredible thing he used to do when he drank and how he finally got clean.
And now, the SHOWBIZ News Ticker, more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making stories right now.
(CAPTION READS: "People" magazine: NFL QB Tom Brady and supermodel Giselle Bundchen are engaged. Singer Fergie and actor Josh Duhamel get married in Malibu, California.)
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer. And new right now, Kanye West says he wants to pose naked.
(MUSIC VIDEO OF "LOVE LOCKED DOWN")
HAMMER: Kanye, whose brand new song is called, "Love Locked Down," says you might see him strip down in the February issue of "Vibe" magazine. Well, that`s where he says it anyway.
Kanye, who I know loves to push people`s buttons, says if he works out for a couple months, sure he would take it all off. And that`s not all. Kanye also says he wants less, not more fans. Listen to what he tells "Vibe." This is wild, quote, "I want to make popular music, but I want less fans. I want the freedom of having less fans. It`s like the freedom of having less money. If you have less money, you have less responsibility."
Now, Kanye goes on to say what he means is that he would rather have a smaller group of more devoted fans than a huge group that buys his music because he is the popular guy.
Well tonight, John Travolta, his wife Kelly Preston and daughter Ella are thanking the Florida community for its support after the tragic loss of Jett, the Travoltas` 16-year-old son.
In a letter to the "Ocala Star Banner" newspaper, the Travoltas write, quote, "The enormous amount of love, support and condolence we have received from this community has been most humbling. Comforting words, thoughts and prayers of Ocala`s citizens have made an impossibly painful situation, a little less painful. By sharing our grief, you lessen our burden. For all of the people who have kept Jett in their prayers, know that those prayers have given us inspiration and strength. We want all of you to cherish your loved ones and your friends like there was no tomorrow."
Now, at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, the stars were speaking out about the Travolta tragedy sending their own words of comfort to the family.
Here for one is Jon Voight.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JON VOIGHT, ACTOR: I sent some words to John and Kelly. There is nothing anyone can say. But all the love and all the prayers of the public who love John and Kelly so much and this angel that they have lost - you know, it`s all very meaningful to them, I`m sure, And will help them get through it.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: There really are no words. But we, of course, send our best wishes out to the Travolta family.
All right, coming up, we have more Golden Globe shockers. SHOWBIZ at the Globes. It`s unbelievable how many shocking things happened at this year`s Golden Globe Awards and you won`t want to miss this. Jokes about drug abuse and the Holocaust. Stars sticking their middle fingers up and their tongues out.
And then you have Leo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, even Brad and Angelina getting shut out of awards. I`ve got to look into this, and I will next.
All out war on "The View." Wow. The fireworks today as controversial conservative columnist Ann Coulter takes on all the ladies of "The View." Did they kick her off the show? You have got to see that, coming up.
And did you see this too? Tonight, I`ve got Joe the Plumber`s very first report as a war correspondent from Israel. And no, I`m not kidding.

The ladies of "The View" versus Ann Coulter. Wait until you hear how Ann dissed Barbara Walters right to her face. And what happened next. Things got really heated when this conservative author sat down at the co- host table. But did Ann get kicked off the show?
TV`s most provocative entertainment news show continues right now.
(MUSIC)
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.
Tonight, the biggest, the wildest, the top of the line globe shockers. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was right there at the Golden Globes which were filled with outrageous behavior.
You know, we just couldn`t believe some of what we saw and some of what we heard. Celebrities cracking jokes about the Holocaust and cocaine use. What`s up with that? And what about the offensive behavior? Stars like Miley Cyrus sticking her tongue out. Others giving the middle finger on national television.
And we`ve got to talk about the incredible star shutouts. We`re talking big time celebs, like Leo DiCaprio, Angelina and brad, Tom Cruise, all getting shut out. So what the heck is going on? And who takes the cake for sheer outrageousness at the Golden Globes?
Joining me in New York - Carolina Bermudez is the senior editor for "In Touch Weekly." Also tonight in New York is Ben Widdicombe, the editor- at-large for "Star" magazine.
We cannot talk about Sunday night`s Golden Globe shockers without talking about the incredible stars shutouts. I thought at least one of these guys would win. I mean, Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep - all shut out, "No Golden Globe for you."
Many of these A-list celebrities lost out to newbies in the business. I have not been able to figure out what`s going on here. Carolina, can you help me?
CAROLINA BERMUDEZ, SENIOR EDITOR, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": I can`t figure it out either, A.J. I mean, when you have that many celebrities that are A-list celebrities, movie stars, you would think that at least one of them would take something home. Meryl Streep - how many people have been talking about her role in "Doubt." I mean, I thought that she pretty much had it hands down, but I was surprised, too.
HAMMER: And all worthwhile wins, I should point out. But Ben, what about you? Did it surprise that you none of these A-list stars who all came out and all put on their nice dresses and tuxes? They won nothing.
BEN WIDDICOMBE, EDITOR-AT-LARGE, "STAR" MAGAZINE: Well, you know, the only name that surprises me is Meryl Streep that she lost. But you know, she lost to an actress of the highest caliber, Kate Winslet, so it wasn`t a huge upset.
And I think it`s interesting what Carolina said. You know, she described the others - Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise - as celebrities and movie stars. And I think they`re seen as that before they`re seen as actors. So maybe that`s the reason why they are not going home with the awards.
HAMMER: Well, we know that stars are known for pushing the envelope at the Globes when it comes to behavior. But there were outrageous moments at the Golden Globes last night. And we don`t exactly know who was more outrageous.
You had Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais or Seth Rogen, also making outrageous comments. You`ve got to look at al three. So let`s start off with Tina Fey. I happen to like this a lot. She actually had a very special message for all the bloggers who have been hating on her this past year.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
TINA FEY, ACTRESS: BabsonLacrosse, you can suck it. Dianefan, you can suck it. Cougarletter, you can really suck it because all year, you have been after me - all year.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. You won`t hear that at the Oscars. Well, now, I`d like to check out Ricky Gervais. He was cracking jokes about the Holocaust. This was after Kate Winslet`s win for the Holocaust-themed movie, "The Reader." Watch Ricky.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
RICKY GERVAIS, ACTOR: Well done, Winslet. I told you, do a Holocaust movie, the awards come, didn`t I? See. Trouble is with Holocaust films, there is never any gag reel on the DVDs.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: OK. Let`s move on to Seth Rogen, no saint himself. You`ve got to look at his comments about doing cocaine with Mickey Rourke.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SETH ROGEN, ACTOR: I wish I got to do this a long time ago in a different era in Hollywood perhaps, maybe like the `80s, you know? That way, instead of being drunk with Mickey Rourke tonight, I would be doing cocaine with Mickey Rourke tonight.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: OK. I definitely have my pick. But Ben Widdicombe, off to you first, of the three, who do you think should win the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT Golden Globe most outrageous moment of the night?
WIDDICOMBE: Well, I`m going to give that one to Tina Fey because I just think that she was so funny. And there was so much love for her in the room that night. I thought that was the funniest moment of the broadcast.
Seth Rogen - not so much. I think that he doesn`t have the stature to take on a lion of Hollywood like Mickey Rourke, even in jest. So I think his joke made him seem a little callow.
HAMMER: What about you, Carolina? Who should have kept their mouth closed?
BERMUDEZ: I agree with Ben. I think Tina Fey can do no wrong right now. And Seth Rogen - I mean, come on. How are you going to get the comeback kid of 2009? Mickey Rourke - there`s a lot of people on his team, so it was in poor taste. And the Holocaust jokes are never funny. Sorry, Ricky Gervais, but I can`t even go there with that one.
HAMMER: Yes. You heard a little laughter off the first one. The second one, what you didn`t hear was the audience just groaning.
All right. Let us now move on to what SHOWBIZ TONIGHT likes to call the most offensive snapshot of the night. We have Miley Cyrus versus director Darren Aronofsky. Wow.
Look at this at a dressed-up awards show. You`ve got Disney sweetheart, Miley Cyrus there on the left side of your screen, looking straight into the camera and sticking out her tongue. This is not just a cutaway. This is while she was being introduced as a nominee for best song.
And yes, you have this, this soon-to-be infamous moment, Darren Aronofsky, director of "The Wrestler," flipping the bird to Mickey Rourke on national television. Ben, who is your winner there?
WIDDICOMBE: Well, I was quite charmed by Miley Cyrus. I let out a big chuckle when she stuck her tongue out to the camera. Darren Aronofsky is not 16. He`s old enough to know better. And I thought that was just vulgar, frankly.
HAMMER: I thought for a moment you were going to say you were charmed by Darren and what he was doing. I`m glad - Carolina, who is your pick on that?
BERMUDEZ: I have to go - I`m sorry, Ben. I disagree with you. I was more offended by Miley Cyrus` cleavage. Did you guys check that out? I mean, come on, the girl is like 16. Put those puppies away. So I think her parents need to kind of reel her back in a little bit. Get that girl some discipline.
HAMMER: I have a feeling there might have been a conversation. I don`t know about the cleavage you are speaking about there, Carolina, but maybe about sticking your tongue out at a dressed-up awards show.
BERMUDEZ: Oh, look at the pictures. They don`t lie. Come on.
HAMMER: All right. Let`s get on to another big Golden Globe shocker. We`re talking some major emotional moments. You have Kate Winslet and Sally Hawkins both freaking out when they won their awards at the show. Let`s take a look first at Kate. She`s accepting her award as Best Actress in a Drama. This is for "Revolutionary Road."
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WINSLET: And Meryl, Kristin - oh god, who is the other one? Angelina, I am - this is - OK. No, forgive me. Gather. Is this really happening?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. It really was happening. Now, you have to take a look at this. It`s virtual unknown Sally Hawkins up there accepting her Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy or musical for her role in "Happy-Go- Lucky." And for this, she beat out the likes of Meryl Streep as we mentioned. Watch.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HAWKINS: Sorry, I`ll try and get through as much my voice and nerves and knees will let me. Thank you so much. The Hollywood foreign press - sorry.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: I mean, put yourself in her shoes for a moment, you know. It has to be completely overwhelming. And neither Sally nor Kate said they expected to win. And these were big wins last night. So, Ben, who for you wins for most emotional moment of the night?
WIDDICOMBE: Well, so much for the famous British stiff upper lip. I mean, no wonder they lost their empire. I mean, for pure sincerity and emotion, I`m going to go for Sally Hawkins. It really makes me smile to see it again. And it makes me want to rush out see her film which I missed the first time around.
HAMMER: What about you, Carolina. Now, when Kate Winslet got up to accept for each award she was emotional, particularly second time around. And she blew a kiss to Leonardo DiCaprio, and she seemed genuinely touched. What takes it for you?
BERMUDEZ: I think Sally does, too. I mean, here`s a girl who`s relatively unknown. She`s coming out at one of the biggest award shows of the year. And she`s got her moment to shine. And you can kind of - you can feel how genuine she was when she was accepting that. I mean, it doesn`t take anything away from Kate Winslet. But I was kind of rooting for the underdog in that one.
HAMMER: Ten seconds for you, Ben. Why so many shocking and outrageous moments last night? Were people just overdoing it on the champagne or were they just missing the Globes?
WIDDICOMBE: Well, the Globes are always more fun, because unlike the Oscars, you get to drink during it. And also, there are TV and film stars. It`s a more congenial atmosphere. I think it`s the best awards show of the year.
HAMMER: It definitely is one of the most memorable to be sure. Carolina Bermudez, Ben Widdicombe, I thank you both.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BARBARA WALTERS, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": Can I just read a section allowed?
ANN COULTER, CONSERVATIVE AUTHOR: Yes, read it like you are reading "Mein Kampf" again.
WALTERS: I don`t think I did that.
COULTER: I think you did. You spat out the words when I wasn`t sitting here.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Did Ann Coulter just give Barbara Walters a smackdown? Why, that`s treason - at least on "The View" it is. So did "The View" give Coulter the boot?
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Tonight, was Ann Coulter kicked off "The View?" I`ve got to tell you, I`m sitting there, watching the show. And I couldn`t believe my eyes this morning when Ann Coulter was just ripping into Barbara Walters right there_, live on "The View."
Ann blasted Barbara for the way she was reading excerpts on the show from Coulter`s new book, complaining Barbara sounded like she was reading Hitler`s "Mein Kampf," and slammed her for - and these are her words, "spitting out excerpts."
So what really happened? And did Ann get booted off the show?
Joining me tonight in New York is Carolina Bermudez. She`s a senior editor at "In Touch Weekly." Also tonight in New York, Ashleigh Banfield who is an anchor for "In Session."
So we all well know Ann Coulter loves to push people`s buttons. That`s what she does. But to tell Barbara Walters that she read excerpts of Ann`s book like Hitler`s book - well, we showed you a little bit of that. So I want you to watch the whole thing right now. Roll it.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WALTERS: Can I just read a section aloud.
COULTER: Yes, read it like you are reading "Mein Kampf" again.
WALTERS: I don`t think I did that.
COULTER: I think you did. You spat out the word when I wasn`t sitting here.
WALTERS: Let me do this. (UNINTELLIGIBLE) because I`d like to discuss something current. I read this because I would love to hear your view on Caroline Kennedy`s desire to become a senator.
ELISABETH HASSELBECK, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": Was that gentle enough?
COULTER: Yes, that was lovely. You can do the audio book.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: By the way, that question never got answered. Carolina, let`s go to you first. I`m speechless. Did Barbara deserve that?
BERMUDEZ: No. She would be so lucky to have Barbara do her audio book. She comes off as snarky, immature. Ann Coulter - what can you say about her that hasn`t been said? You know, can dress up in her little pencil skirts and in her professional way all she wants. But she just comes off as low class during this whole interview.
HAMMER: So you love her is what you are saying?
BERMUDEZ: Basically.
HAMMER: Ashleigh Banfield, over to you. Ann, you know, as I`ve mentioned, lives for just saying outrageous things every time she pops up on TV. But what do you think? Was this just way over the line this time?
ASHLEIGH BANFIELD, ANCHOR, "IN SESSION": I am going to come out and do something that I don`t think a lot of people have done or will do. And I going to defend Ann a little bit.
HAMMER: What? What?
BERMUDEZ: Oh. Whoa. Ashleigh -
BANFIELD: I am a television journalist, and my job is to ask questions and then listen to answers. And I don`t believe for a moment that Ann actually got to answer anything on the program today. A five-on-one interview is never a fair go.
That said, let me bring it back to reality for a moment. That is that Ann Coulter doesn`t have a TV show. I don`t know if she could keep one or had one offered. So she needs residual headlines in order to sell her book. The only way you`re going to get residual headlines is do something real blatant, like attack Barbara Walters.
HAMMER: Well, it`s interesting because a few people today have mentioned it to me. It did seem like the ladies of "The View" may have been on the offensive from the very beginning. And it was pretty clear watching that the ladies sitting alongside Barbara were not happy that Mama Barbara got attacked by Ann, and rightfully so, I think. Take a look at what Sherri Shepherd said to Ann Coulter after she attacked Barbara.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HASSELBECK: Was that gentle enough?
COULTER: Yes, that was lovely. You could do the audio book. Well, we don`t know that much about her.
(CROSS TALK)
SHEPHERD: Nobody is attacking you. I just don`t appreciate the way you are talking to her. I mean, nobody is attacking you. You didn`t have to talk to her like that.
COULTER: I wasn`t here. And you are describing -
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Well, Sherri obviously really annoyed and she`s defending Barbara there as we saw. And even Elisabeth got in there. But what was interesting to me is that Barbara stayed mum even after that first comment almost looked like that she was biting her tongue. And I`m thinking in her head. She was fuming. Carolina, why do you think Barbara just kept her mouth closed?
BERMUDEZ: Well, because I think she`s a professional and she knows better. And she also knows she`s got Sherri Shepherd on her back, because Sherri looked like she was ready to take off those hoop earrings and take Ann to the playground, you know. They`re not messing around on "The View." And Barbara Walters - she`s a legend. She doesn`t need to defend herself against someone like Ann Coulter.
HAMMER: Yes. Sherri did look like she was about to kick the chair out from under Ann. Now, it didn`t stop there. Oh no, Whoopi Goldberg got in the mix. She circled back to an earlier discussion on the show about outrageous claims that Ann makes in her book that single motherhood is the cause of most of this nation`s social problems. Watch what happened here.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WHOOPI GOLDBERG, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": I want to reiterate. Nobody was putting down or attacking you.
COULTER: Look, you were claiming that I was basing this on personal experience. I was not basing it on personal experience.
GOLDBERG: No, I asked -
(CROSS TALK)
COULTER: Halle Berry`s Academy Award acceptance speech went on and on about how she was doing it for the blacks. That is identifying with her black father. I am talking about what they do in public.
(CROSS TALK)
GOLDBERG: You can`t take it, can you? You can dish it out, but you can`t take it. We`ll be right back with Ann`s book.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: OK. Now, it sounded like that Whoopi was saying we`ll be right back with Ann`s book. But the show came back and mysteriously, poof! She was gone. Now, Ashleigh, having watched the show, do you think Ann got the boot?
BANFIELD: I really don`t know. It could have been - I have made mistakes going to break before saying we`ll be right back with somebody when in fact it was only one block that was planned. And I think there were a lot of emotions that were cooking up at that point.
I will say this so about Ann. She sure does play the victim a lot for somebody who`s got a book about victims and how they`re destroying society. So, once again, hats off to Ann for getting headlines. But I`m not sure that`s the kind of headlines that help us all as a better society.
HAMMER: Now, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT did reach out to ABC. They say she was only scheduled for one segment. But Carolina, that said, was this just perfect storm - Ann Coulter, sitting down with the ladies of "The View." Even the very conservative Elisabeth wasn`t a fan.
BERMUDEZ: Absolutely. This was ratings gold. Keep doing this, producers, because they know how to get the hot guests on with the hot topics. And you know what? I mean, they got what they wanted.
HAMMER: Yes.
BERMUDEZ: They`ve been in the blogs and in the news all day, so there you go.
HAMMER: Contentious as it was, don`t be surprised if Ann Coulter returns to "The View." Carolina Bermudez, Ashleigh Banfield, I thank you.
Well, coming up, Alec Baldwin`s alcohol confessions. Tonight, brand- new information about how bad Alec`s alcoholism got. We`re talking the unbelievable way he used to spend his time after drinking all night, and how he finally got sober. This is something you definitely don`t want to miss. It`s Alec`s alcohol confessions, coming up next.
And now, the SHOWBIZ News Ticker, more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.

AMY POEHLER, ACTRESS: And the Golden Globe goes to -
PATRICK DEMPSEY, ACTOR: And the Golden Globe goes to -
POEHLER: Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock."
DEMPSEY: Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock."
ALEC BALDWIN, ACTOR: I want to thank - when you do this show, the first thing you want to say is, "Thank you, Tina. Thank you, Tina. Thank you, Tina." And I do want to say thank you to Tina Fey, the creator and the writer of the show and my co-star on the show.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: That`s Alec Baldwin accepting his Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical Or Comedy TV Series.
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. And tonight, Alec Baldwin`s alcohol confessions. Just a day after Alec won big at the Golden Globes, word`s getting out about his struggle with alcohol back in the 1980s.
A new book called "Moments of Clarity" is a compilation of personal testimonies about addiction. And in the book, Alec opens up about his past with booze. He says when he was on "Knots Landing" and he was making tens of thousands of dollars a week, he would be driving down the freeway with a quart of wine.
He says he knows everyone else was drinking Diet Coke or coffee and that something was wrong. He says he would drink all night and then play video games to wind down, in particular, "Galaga," at an arcade warehouse where the manager would look at him like, "Wow, I`m glad I`m not you."
Now, Baldwin says six weeks before his 27th birthday, he joined up with a support group and a 65-year-old retired postal worker named Lenny(ph) said, "You never have to feel this way again if you don`t want to."
All right, did you se this? Joe the Plumber has started his new gig as Joe the Reporter. Samuel Wurzelbacher - you know him as Joe the Plumber, is covering Israel as a correspondent for a conservative Web site called "PJTV.com."
The people behind the site say they picked Joe because he`s an expert on media bias. He was in a town in southern Israel today where he met with the town`s mayor and got a gift from a local plumber, a rocket made out of drainpipe.
Well, on Friday, we told you about Sarah Palin`s new interview for a documentary, and we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day - "Sarah Palin`s New Interview: Did Tina Fey and Katie Couric exploit her? 34 percent of you say yes; 66 percent of you said no.
I want to read a couple E-mails we got. One from Marie in Wisconsin who writes, "Couric`s treatment of Sarah Palin was very unfair. She had a condescending attitude that was hard to watch."
Robert from California writes, "No one exploited Sarah. She did it herself and loved every minute of it."
And that is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thank you so much for watching. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Remember, you can always catch SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN on the 11:00s - one at 11:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific and one in the morning at 11:00 a.m. Eastern.
