Hello. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.
And tonight, Jon Gosselin`s incredible abuse claim. Yes, Jon claims Kate abused him and the whole nation heard him say it in an interview that just aired tonight on ABC. It is Jon`s first interview since he and Kate also went on nationwide TV to announce they are getting a divorce.
So wait a second here. Jon Gosselin, an abused husband? I`m going to assume for a moment that was before he started running around with his 22- year-old girlfriend and before he and Kate turned into two of the biggest train wrecks on TV making big news right now.
(MUSIC PLAYING)
JON GOSSELIN, REALITY TV STAR, "JON & KATE PLUS 8": I was verbally abused.
HAMMER (voice-over): A visibly angry Jon Gosselin uses his strongest language yet, blaming what he calls Kate`s "verbal abuse" for ending their marriage.
CHRIS CUOMO, ABC NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Can it be fixed?
J. GOSSELIN: No, our relationship will never be fixed.
HAMMER: Jon`s explosive new interview aired in an ABC News special tonight with "Good Morning America" running clips this morning. Gosselin says he`s so bitter he can`t even be near Kate when they film their show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8."
J. GOSSELIN: I can`t sit on the sofa with that woman. I can`t sit on someone right now that I despise.
HAMMER: You know it`s bad when a reporter actually has to tell the person he`s interviewing to tone it down as ABC`s Chris Cuomo does at the height of Jon`s Kate-bashing.
CUOMO: You`ve got to be careful about how you talk about Kate as the mother of your kids.
HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you the divorce of Jon and Kate Gosselin has officially turned nasty as the whole world, not to mention their eight kids, are looking on.
JO PIAZZA, ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALIST: He painted this portrait of Kate really as the wicked witch of the west.
KATE GOSSELIN, REALITY TV STAR, "JON & KATE PLUS 8": No, I can`t. Would you come here?
J. GOSSELIN: Why?
K. GOSSELIN: Because.
HAMMER: In so-called "happier times" when "Jon and Kate Plus 8" still featured Jon and Kate, their bickering was a trademark of the show.
K. GOSSELIN: Are you annoyed with me?
J. GOSSELIN: Yes, very.
K. GOSSELIN: Why?
J. GOSSELIN: Because of the way you yell at me in there like I`m a freaking dog.
HAMMER: Now, in his ABC interview, Gosselin reveals that Kate`s occasionally harsh tone with him took its toll.
J. GOSSELIN: I was beaten down. She separated me from my family. She used to hold the kids over my head and say, "You know, don`t spend time with your mom. Spend time with your kids." Why can`t I spend time with my mom and kids together? I`m not going back to that lifestyle.
HAMMER: And he explains why he despises his ex.
J. GOSSELIN: I despise because she`s not speaking from the heart. Please, the stuff you tell me in private should be the stuff you tell me on TV.
PIAZZA: I think that Jon desperately wants sympathy from the American public. It`s been Jon that`s been all over the press stepping out with new women and going to bars and partying. And he wants people to see his side.
HAMMER: But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you Jon`s Kate-bashing did not go ever well with the ladies of "The View" in today`s episode.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": The ugly part is, once you put it out there, it`s there forever.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes.
GOLDBERG: Once you put that out there, you can`t take it back.
HAMMER (on camera): Well, Jon Gosselin`s explosive words were the hottest of the hot topics here on the set of "The View" today. And after the show, the co-hosts had plenty to say about Jon`s Kate-bashing.
How out of line do you think it is that he`s gone on national TV and talking about this stuff?
GOLDBERG: Well, you know what? They are both on national TV and their divorce was on national TV. And the breakup of their family was on national TV. So this is not going to be a big surprise. Me, myself, I`d prefer not to see it so I`m going to change the channel.
SHERRI SHEPHERD, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": I`m so mad at them there.
HAMMER: "View" co-host Sherri Shepherd let Jon have it when I spoke with her after the show. And she has a message for Kate Gosselin who will be a guest co-host on "The View" next week.
SHEPHERD: You know what? To Kate - I`m going to tell her when gets here. If you`ve got timber wood, I`ve got matches because I will burn up the house and tear up a car for you, Kate. You don`t have to say you did it. I`ll leave my name - Sherri. I`ll blow up Jon Gosselin`s car.
HAMMER: Kate Gosselin has her own less-explosive response to Jon`s fiery interview. In a statement today to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, she says, quote, "While I certainly have a very different perception of how our marriage dissolved, for the save of my children, I maintain that I`m not going to go into details of aspects I believe should remain private."
But with both Jon and Kate taking their mutual hate-fest public, it`s looking like this bitter breakup will remain anything but private.
PIAZZA: It`s really sad to think that in five or 10 years, Jon and Kate`s kids are going to be able to watch this interview on the Internet. Their friends are going to be able to see it and say, "Wow, my mom and dad were really jerks to each other."
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: That`s what I`ve been saying all along. It is an incredible abuse claim coming from Jon. But should we really feel sorry for Jon Gosselin?
Joining me tonight in Hollywood is Carlos Diaz, a correspondent for "Extra." In New York is Laura Saltman who is a correspondent for AccessHollywood.com
Look at what`s going here - so much hating on hate coming from Jon. All right. I want to get this perfectly straight. Jon Gosselin says Kate was verbally abusive to him, that he despises her, says she, quote, "beat him down."
Carlos Diaz, to you, when you hear what Jon`s got to say, does it in any way make you feel sorry for him? Or are you thinking that he`s coming of like a great, big, whiney baby?
CARLOS DIAZ, CORRESPONDENT, "EXTRA": Oh, Jon. Jon, you give me a headache. You give me a headache. This is a great interview except it`s three months too late. I mean, you know?
You`ve already burned your house down by going out and, you know, hooking up with all these different women and this and that, you know, with Hailey Glassman. You`ve already done that wrong.
This interview should have happened a week after you guys, you know, filed for divorce. That`s when the interview should have happened. So many things going wrong with this - it`s not even funny.
The fact you just went out and bought a Mercedes - you just bought a Mercedes in a down economy when you should be supporting your kids. All these things that he`s doing are completely wrong.
And then, when you say, I despise the woman - that`s the mother of your kids. And you know what? Yes, maybe Kate isn`t being honest. Maybe she`s not saying same things she says to you in private but that`s a good thing.
If you`re going to be a jerk, be a jerk in private. Don`t be a jerk on national TV.
HAMMER: Yes. I think that was Jon on the phone trying to get some more sympathy from you there.
DIAZ: Yes, hold on.
HAMMER: But while you`re doing that, I need to point out that Jon not only said that he thought Kate was verbally abusive, but he actually said, as Carlos pointed out, he despises her. Watch what he told "Good Morning America."
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
J. GOSSELIN: I can`t sit on the sofa with that woman. I can`t sit on someone right now that I despise.
CUOMO: Despise?
J. GOSSELIN: I despise because she`s not speaking from the heart. Please, the stuff you tell me in private should be the stuff you tell me on TV.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. To Carlos` point - and now I`m really confused because I`m thinking didn`t Jon tell "People" magazine just a few weeks ago that he still loves Kate?
Laura, what`s going on here? Why do you think he`s hating on her right now? I don`t think or understand how he thinks he can have it both ways.
LAURA SALTMAN, CORRESPONDENT, ACCESSHOLLYWOOD.COM: You know, the thing - when she went on "LARRY KING," she seemed - she came off as very steely. And she seemed to not answer any questions.
And I wonder if took that to think like, "Well, she came off that way, so I`m going to come off as real and really put my feelings out there." And unfortunately, saying you despise somebody on national TV as Whoopi Goldberg said, you can never take that back. And that is the worst, worst, worst way to go about something.
HAMMER: You remember when these guys were first busting up, we were getting all kinds of calls and E-mails. People telling us, "Well, look how she treats him." Let`s go back to Jon`s claims about the verbal abuse thing.
It is true that Kate wasn`t always as kind as she could have been to Jon. Let`s take a look back in time, shall we? Charles, do you have something for me?
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
K. GOSSELIN: Jon.
J. GOSSELIN: OK. I said I was sorry.
K. GOSSELIN: You don`t have to be sorry. I`m telling you to you use the weird colors at home. Did you hear me?
J. GOSSELIN: Yes.
K. GOSSELIN: What was the end of what I said?
J. GOSSELIN: I can`t hear.
K. GOSSELIN: That`s what I thought.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. I mean, there`s no doubt that kind of treatment has to get old after a while. So Carlos, separate from everything else, when you hear that now, do you at least get where Jon is coming from that he felt verbally abused?
DIAZ: Yes. I mean, every marriage - every man and woman in every marriage, they feel they are verbally abused at some point by their spouse if there is a divorce that`s involved.
But you know, I`ve never seen a couple go from - I mean, on the show, she was so in his face and he handled it so well. When they were in the store, he said - you know, he kind of laughed it off. You know, "You treat me like a dog in there, like an animal."
And you kind of - I`ve never seen a guy go from handling it so well to handling it so poorly. And then she comes off on the show as being this nag. And now she`s playing the public, crying on "The Today Show."
I mean, when he was on "GMA," he said, "I haven`t cried so much - I have cried so much in the last few months more than the last eight years." Well, you`re doing it with a scowl on your face. Say it with some tears in your eyes and make us believe it.
HAMMER: Yes. I mean, Laura, clearly, he`s going for sympathy here. But are you with me that this is just going to turn people against him?
SALTMAN: Probably. I mean, does anybody like them? Is there anybody in America who likes them? Call me. I`d love to know why. Why do you like them?
DIAZ: I do. I love them.
SALTMAN: Why?
DIAZ: I love them because they are fascinating.
SALTMAN: Because you`re like - no, because it gives you something to talk about, that`s why you love them.
DIAZ: This is the point, though. People -
HAMMER: Here`s the point, because we`re going to wrap it up here. But this is the point that people love to hate them, a point I will be getting to in just a moment. Carlos, Laura, stay where you are.
SALTMAN: But that`s not the right kind of (UNINTELLIGIBLE).
HAMMER: Jon and Kate, not the first nasty public celebrity divorce - far from it. You remember Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards, right? The bitter bickering there. You have Hulk Hogan and his beloved wife, Linda.
Of course, there was Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. That didn`t go so well. How did their divorces stack up to Jon and Kate`s? More bitter? Less? We`re going to vote the king and queen of the worst divorces ever. Who do you think should get the crown?
And now, the point I was driving at and I want to hear from you on it. Our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day is, "Jon and Kate Gosselin: Do you love to hate them?" Is that why you`re watching? Vote at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight or E-mail showbiztonight@cnn.com.
Well, tonight, as we move on, I can tell you Chris Brown the hating on Oprah. That`s right. The guy trying so hard to repair his image after beating the heck out of Rihanna is actually going after Oprah over what she said about the beating. I`m thinking this is Brown`s dumbest move ever.
Also this -
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GEORGE CLOONEY, ACTOR: I know what the question is.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: George, please, take me. Choose me, George. Please, please, choose me. George, may I kiss you, please?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Oh, the life of a celebrity. The totally loony thing that just happened to George Clooney. A guy strips and asks him for a kiss and, as you see, it`s all caught on tape.
And also caught on tape, the wedding couple who totally lost it right in the middle of their "I dos."
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`ve been scared of this all my life.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Was it something he said? Why is the bride laughing so much? It`s the video everyone is talking about right now. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Time now for the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - it`s more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.
TEXT: Heath Ledger last film, "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus," will premiere October 11th. Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown to perform at Michael Jackson tribute in Vienna on 9/26.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HEATHER MILLS, PAUL MCCARTNEY`S EX-WIFE: I`ve had worse press than a pedophile or a murderer.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Ah, who can for get Heather Mills` nasty bitter divorce from Paul McCartney. The drama, the tears. What a train wreck. But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is asking, was it more bitter than Jon and Kate`s divorce?
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
And tonight, the worst celebrity divorces ever. Jon and Kate Gosselin are lobbing nasty zingers at each other in public as they go through their bitter divorce. But is their split worse than any other ugly celebrity divorces? Tonight, we`re going to make the ultimate worst celebrity divorce ever.
Joining me in New York, April Woodard who is an entertainment journalist. In Hollywood tonight is Laura Saltman who is a correspondent for "AccessHollywood.com."
Let`s get right to it - our contenders for the worst divorces ever. You, of course, have Jon and Kate who seem to be addicted to bashing each other at angry interviews. But please, let us not forget about the hot mess that was Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards` divorce.
And of course, there`s Hulk Hogan and his ex Linda. She`s still so mad at him. In fact, she`s threatening to have him thrown in the slammer if he doesn`t pay their settlement soon.
But Heather Mills` and Paul McCartney`s split was so out of control, so bad, it was almost comical. So, Laura, I go to you to cast your vote, which one of these couples wins the title "the worst divorce ever."
SALTMAN: Drum roll, please. I`m going to go with Paul McCartney and Heather Mills because I still can`t think of anybody who, in a courtroom, poured water over the other person`s attorneys head and called them some nasty names. But Heather did.
HAMMER: It was a genius, genius beautiful moment ...
SALTMAN: It really was.
HAMMER: ... and really, a gift to all of us, wasn`t it? April Woodard, worst divorce ever? Name it.
APRIL WOODARD, ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALIST: Well, you know, I`m kind of feeling the Paul McCartney thing with the tearless cry that she did there. But I think Hulk Hogan and Linda, because Hulk did have a courtroom situation where there was testosterone TV where he approached Linda`s attorney and had some words there.
And then, he also said the stuff about, "I can understand why O.J. did this to Nicole." Remember that controversy? And then, remember the controversy of them kissing in the courtroom and saying everything`s over with?
You`re also talking about $26 to $36 million between them. You also have to consider the money and as well as the antics. So I`m saying Hulk Hogan and Linda Hogan.
HAMMER: That is a whole lot of ugliness. You just summed it up beautifully, of course, April. Thank you. Laura, I want to get back to you to the point that got us here to begin with. How does Jon and Kate Gosselin`s divorce stack up against what happened with Paul and Heather?
Let`s face it. They have some big mud-slinging going on. And quite frankly, it is getting undignified if you ask me.
SALTMAN: Definitely undignified. The thing that isn`t happening is the money. I mean, Heather asked for some ridiculous amount of money and she wanted, you know, money for wine, to buy wine and stupid things like that.
So I think if we take the money part out of it, Jon and Kate may never be to the level of these celebrities because of that. But you never know if they keep slinging the mud against each other it could get worse. By the way, this is why I`m not married. I don`t want any of this. No part.
HAMMER: Well, listen, you`re learning some valuable lessons of what not to do if you get married and then subsequently get divorced.
April, let me get to you on your choice. Of course, Jon and Kate - yes, they`re not dealing with as much money as the Hogans which makes theirs particularly interesting. But could it get as ugly in other ways as Hulk and Linda`s?
WOODARD: Gosh, it`s so hard to compete because, you know, Hulk had all of the things going on with Nick before it. They had Brooke was coming out and saying she was mad at her mom because the mom was dating a younger kid that was in her class.
I mean, it`s so hard to compete with that. And certainly, you know, Jon and Kate have their antics going on. They have their drama where he says, you know, he despises her.
And it`s gotten a lot of venomous words going back and forth. But you know, they don`t have the money. You`re talking about a couple million dollars her that they`re, you know, going to have to split up.
I think, maybe, long term, it will be bigger because we`ll be seeing these kids grow up. We`ll be seeing them go to college. We`ll be seeing them look online and see all the negative things their parents had to say. But they can`t compete with the Hogans. I don`t think so.
HAMMER: But as far as how it affects the kids - wow, there`s the real danger that we`ll keep talking about.
WOODARD: Yes.
SALTMAN: Yes.
HAMMER: April Woodard, Laura Saltman, thank you so much. I`ve got to tell you the "Showbiz on Call" phone lines - they`ve been ringing nonstop with calls about Jon`s explosive interview tonight.
In fact, look at this. We`ve had to call in extra "Showbiz on Call" operators to doing night duty tonight. We`ve never done that before.
We`ve got a call into "Showbiz on Call" from Lisette in Washington, D.C. Does she to hate Jon and Kate?
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
CALLER: Jon and Kate - oh my God, that is such a drama. And I don`t hate them. I don`t love them. It`s interesting. I feel sorry for the kids because the kids - you know, their life is on TV.
But you know, it is what it is. Basically, this stuff goes on every day in regular people`s lives. It`s just not blown up because they are not celebrities. I just hope they start thinking about the children and stop thinking about themselves and go on about their life.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
HAMMER: Thank you so much, Lisette for your call. The "Showbiz on Call" phone lines are open all the time. Please put up that number - 1-888-SBT- BUZZ; 1-888-728-2899. Leave us a voicemail so we can play your calls here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Well, let`s see. If you`re trying to get people to like you again after beating up your girlfriend, do you think going after Oprah would be a good idea? I`m thinking not. But that`s exactly what Chris Brown is doing right now. He`s attacking Oprah what she said about him beating up Rihanna.
Also tonight, Tyra takes it off. Well, her hair, anyway. Tyra banks, no wigs, no extensions, nothing nada, zip. Just her plain old hair. So what`s the deal here? Is this all a big publicity stunt?
And the secrets of Michelle Obama`s super buff arms revealed for the very first time. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ELLEN DEGENERES, HOST, "THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW": Drop it.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
That`s good. That`s good.
DAVID BECKHAM, MODEL AND SOCCER PLAYER: Excellent -
DEGENERES: So now, here in Los Angeles, when people are driving by on Olive, they`ll look at that and they`ll get to see it because that`s such a waste of my time. I took an entire day to pose with you.
And I thought, well, why not in New York? People in Times Square should see it as well.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Now, let`s go to Sunset Boulevard. Let`s see.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
BECKHAM: That`s great.
DEGENERES: Yes. So there - so we have Sunset Boulevard. We have, of course, Olive. And we have Times Square in New York. And then, I feel like it should be in London as well.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Oh, yes, getting hot in here. David Beckham is thinking, "Hey, I didn`t get paid for those."
Well, let`s move on. Things really heating up on the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s Facebook page over Jon Gosselin`s shocking new interview tonight where he claims that Kate abused him.

(MUSIC PLAYING)
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.
Tonight, Chris Brown versus Oprah? Yes, Chris Brown is taking a break from his apology tour to lash out at Oprah for her comments about that horrific assault.
Yes, Chris, this is what I`m thinking. That`s just the thing to do when you`re trying to make everybody forget about the beating of one of the most famous women in the country - pick an argument with the most famous woman in the country. What are you thinking?
Now, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, Oprah is firing back at Chris Brown and she`s definitely not apologizing.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
CHRIS BROWN, SINGER: It`s one of those things I wish I could relive and just handle it totally different.
HAMMER (voice-over): Chris Brown is opening up on "LARRY KING LIVE" telling the world how sorry he is for battering Rihanna.
BROWN: I really regret it and I feel totally ashamed of what I did.
HAMMER: But while he apologizes for his fight with Rihanna, Chris Brown has now opened up a feud with an even more famous target, Oprah Winfrey. Can anyone say "dumb move?"
KIM SERAFIN, SENIOR EDITOR, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": It doesn`t really seem like such a great idea for Chris Brown to be bringing Oprah into this whole issue.
HAMMER: Chris Brown`s beef with Oprah stems from Oprah`s comments about Chris Brown and Rihanna in a show that aired just weeks after Brown`s brutal attack.
WINFREY: Love doesn`t hurt and if a man hits you once, he will hit you again.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: That`s right.
HAMMER: It turns out, Chris Brown still remembers Oprah`s words and he`s not happy with it. In his interview with the new issue of "People" magazine, Brown says, quote - Brown is peeved at Oprah because he feels that Oprah owes him one and tells people, quote, "I commend Oprah on being like, `This is a problem,` but it was a slap in my face."
Brown is peeved at Oprah because he apparently feels Oprah owes him one. He tells "People," quote, "I did a lot of stuff for her, like going to Africa and performing for her school. She could have been more helpful like, `OK, I`m going to help both of these people out.`"
SERAFIN: It was probably a wrong choice of words for Chris Brown to say it was a slap in his face.
HAMMER: "In Touch Weekly`s" Kim Serafin tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT Chris Brown has no right to complain about what Oprah said about him and Rihanna.
SERAFIN: Even if Chris feels that Oprah owes him one for all the things he did for her and for her school, it doesn`t take away the fact that he hurt Rihanna. And that is something that clearly Oprah cares a lot about.
HAMMER: But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, even more shocking than Chris Brown`s outrageous shot at Oprah is the fact that Oprah is actually responding.
SERAFIN: Oprah doesn`t respond to every single person that ever brings her name into a conversation.
HAMMER: In this case, Oprah is making an exception. Here representative tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, quote, "Oprah very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school. But she takes domestic abuse very seriously. She hopes he gets the counseling he needs."
SERAFIN: The fact that she took the time to specifically respond to this tells you that she really feels strongly about this.
HAMMER: Meanwhile, Chris Brown tells "LARRY KING LIVE" he`s trying to make amends for what he did to Rihanna.
BROWN: I`m willing to definitely be a man and learn who I am and learn how to control emotions.
HAMMER: But one more thing Chris Brown needs to learn - you don`t mess with Oprah.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
So what do you think? Is Chris Brown just out of his mind for taking on Oprah Winfrey?
Joining me from Hollywood tonight, Carlos Diaz, who is a correspondent for "Extra." Also in Hollywood, it`s Pat Lalama who is an investigative reporter.
All right. I`ve got to tell you, Chris Brown`s statement about Oprah`s domestic abuse show - it was so mind-boggling to me that when I read it, I actually thought I had read something that was a mistake.
Listen to what Brown says in the brand-new issue of "People" magazine, "I commend Oprah on being like, `This is a problem," but it was a slap in the face. I did a lot of stuff for her, like going to Africa and performing for her school. She could have been more helpful like, `OK, I`m going to help both of these people out.`"
Pat Lalama, let me go to you first here. I`m thinking people are going to read this and think that Chris is saying, "Hey, you know what, Oprah? I went to Africa. I helped you out with your school. You have no reason to be criticizing me for beating up Rihanna." I`m assume that you have a Lalamanian theory here. Do you think he`s just making a huge mistake?
PAT LALAMA, INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER: I`ve got a lot of theories about this. First of all, let me just make it clear. I don`t think anyone should be denied the right to take on Oprah. I mean, she`s important and she`s powerful, but it`s OK if you disagree with her.
However, he`s so off base on this one. A.J., there`s a no quid pro quo here, a trading of goods and services. You do something for me, I do something for you. Oprah has made a career and a life out of standing on principle, out of being true to her convictions.
She`s not going to go, "Oh gee. He performed at my school, therefore I`m going to look the other way." She`s very, very adamant about the issue of domestic violence. He needs to grow up.
HAMMER: Yes. And I agree with you, Pat. Obviously, he does have a right to speak out against her. But again, when you really take into account that she`s one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry, I think a dumb move.
And Oprah not happy about what Chris said about her. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT just obtained this statement from Oprah`s spokesperson, "Oprah`s very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school but she takes," as Pat said, "domestic abuse very seriously. She hopes he gets the counseling he needs."
And I`m thinking, Oprah, that`s a good little dig you weaved in there. What do you think, Carlos? Doesn`t Oprah`s statement just go to show how stupid Chris looks for saying what he said?
DIAZ: There are so many things wrong with Chris Brown`s statement I don`t know where to begin. Let`s see here. Chris, that gig you played in Africa, I`ve got news for you. I don`t think you`re going to be booked for that gig again. So don`t worry about that.
Also, too, the wording of your statement, "It`s like a slap in the face" - you know what? You might not want to use that figurative term when you literally hit Rihanna in the face.
And third - last but not least, and Pat touched on this, it`s the trading of goods. You know, A.J., I thank you for having me on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT as much as you have. But I`m telling you right now, if I go and get a DUI or if I ever, god forbid, hit a woman, you know what? Don`t have me on the show anymore. I`m not going to call you and yell, "Hey, man, I did your show. Can you have me on again?" No. That`s the favors stop - right there.
HAMMER: Good point. I owe you nothing, Carlos. Chris Brown taking on Oprah - also the ladies of "The View" talking. I was right there on the set this morning for "The View" at their big premiere show. And I asked the ladies what they think about Chris Brown and he what he said. You`ve got to see what Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd told me. Roll that, Charles.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SHEPHERD: I think sometimes it`s better to just sit down and just be quiet and ride it out. You know, people - it`s not what you say. It`s your actions and what you do.
GOLDBERG: Right now, you should stop talking about this because you are not doing yourself a service, because Chris is a smart kid. He`s a smart, brilliantly-talented kid. He needs to stop now.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. Again, Pat, against the backdrop that he has the right to speak out, don`t you think Whoopi has it right that Chris just needs to shut up?
LALAMA: Well, you know what? What amazes me is that these young performers are surrounded by, you know, trainers and molders and "yes" people and we`ll tell you how to live and we`ll tell you what to drink and how to breathe. No one is saying, "Chris, sit down. Shh. Make some music."
HAMMER: Yes. Yes. Let me get to this right now. Charles, can we put up these pictures that we`ve got? Because as if Chris` statements about Oprah not stupid enough, look at Twitter page, pictures of the house that Chris is going to be living in while serving six months community service for beating up Rihanna.
He`s living in the lap of luxury. Carlos, people are still furious about how easy he got off. And now, he`s been handling himself, and he`s showing off like this. Again, I think a dumb move.
DIAZ: And I think it`s further evidence and I`ve had this theory for quite some time. I don`t think Chris Brown gets forgiven. I really don`t. I don`t think he`s going to be one of these celebrities that we say, "You know what? Yes, you know, we`re a forgiving culture."
I think what he did and the fact that he did it to woman and his target demo is singing to women, I don`t think Chris Brown can come back from this.
HAMMER: You`ve got a good point there, Carlos. This may be the case where it does not happen. Carlos Diaz, Pat Lalama, thanks, guys. I appreciate it.
All right. As we move on tonight, it`s got to be tough being George Clooney. I mean, the guy attracts so much desire he can`t even get through a simple press conference without something like this happening.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
CLOONEY: I know what the question is.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: George, please. Take me. Choose me, George! Please! Please, choose me, George. May I kiss you, George, please?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: I promise you. That is only the beginning of a very loony moment for George Clooney. Wait until you hear how George responded to this guy stripping down and asking for a kiss.
Also, First Lady Michelle Obama`s right to bare arms. For the very first time, today, we`re learning the secret of those toned triceps, those buff biceps. Mrs. Obama`s trainer is telling all how you, too, can get arms like the first lady`s.
And you may now kiss the bride if you can get her to stop laughing long enough.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`ve been scared of this all my life.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: What got this bride so giggly? You`ve got to see this one for yourself. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - here come more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.
TEXT: Susan Boyle`s upcoming album already number one on Amazon.com due to pre-orders. "Desperate Housewives" star Teri Hatcher is training for a triathlon.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
All right. Did you see this? I`ve been wanting to show this to you all day. You`ve heard of the blushing bride? Now, I would like you to meet the cackling bride. This is the brand-new YouTube sensation of a couple getting married.
Now, as you see, everything is going just fine until the groom stumbles on a word in the vows.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I, Andrew Paul Daniel Engstrom.
ANDREW PAUL DANIEL ENGSTROM, GROOM: I, Andrew Paul Daniel Engstrom.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Do take Melissa Renee Warren -
A. ENGSTROM: Do take Melissa Renee Warren -
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: To be my lawfully wedded wife.
A. ENGSTROM: To be my waffle-y - lawfully pancake-y.
(LAUGHTER)
A. ENGSTROM: I`ve been scared of this all my life.
(LAUGHTER)
Just give her a second.
(LAUGHTER)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It`s OK, folks. I`ve seen this before.
A. ENGSTROM: OK.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. I`m amused. I think it`s funny. And I don`t want to be too cynical here, but is it just me or does this seem kind of staged, right? What kind of wedding video is this cut-away shot? They have like three cameras set up and they`re taking videos of the guests while the couple the couple is taking their vows? And the bride`s laugh, quite frankly, it sounded a little bit fake to me.
Now, we don`t know for sure if it is staged. But the fact remains a lot of people are saying "I do" to this video on YouTube and they are getting a big laugh out of it. And I guess that`s what it`s all about.
As we move on tonight, Tyra Banks has flipped her wig. Yes, I`m here to tell you she really did flip her wig on her show today for Tyra`s real hair day. The talk show host is baring a brand-new, bold look. Take a look at this.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Well, Banks has banished wigs, weaves and all to bare her true hair for the season premiere of her show. But is what she did on her show today just a big publicity stunt, or is Tyra on to something?
Also brand new tonight, Michelle Obama`s secrets revealed. For the first time today, the first lady`s trainer reveals how she gets those famously sculpted arms.
Joining me tonight from Hollywood, Jess Weiner who is an author and a self esteem expert. From New York, it`s April Woodard who is an entertainment journalist.
And I do want to begin with Tyra Banks who is, if you pardon the expression, wigging out on her show just this afternoon where she debuted her real hair. Take a look.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
TYRA BANKS, HOST, "THE TYRA BANKS SHOW": I`ve worn weaves and wigs and pieces and clip-ons and clip-outs and clip-downs and around, since I was 17, 18 years old. And I wanted to show the real me. I wanted to show the raw me.
And I just got out of the shower - beat the face first, of course, you all. And then came out of here - came on this stage and this is me, you all.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. Jess Weiner, off to you first. What do you think? A bold by Tyra or it`s just a big publicity stunt?
JESSICA WEINER, AUTHOR AND SELF-ESTEEM EXPERT: Oh, A.J., I think they kind of go hand in hand. Listen, she`s a smart businesswoman. And today is the first day of her new season. So of course, it`s going to be bold.
But having done her show and worked with her before, I really do have to say I think she`s authentically looking within herself sometimes. And I think she`s looking to see what she can challenge in the beauty world.
I was there the day that she declared to the paparazzi, kiss her fat butt and the world applauded.
HAMMER: Right.
WEINER: And I think a lot of women taking off their weaves today.
HAMMER: What was your take on this, April?
WOODARD: It`s unbe-weave-able.
(LAUGHTER)
No. I think it`s wonderful that she`s doing it. And I do think it`s, you know, publicity as well as it`s being genuine. I think that, you know, when Tyra started the show, people were wondering, how is a supermodel going to relate to everyday people?
Well, she is consistently showing us that she can. Millions of women spend thousands of dollars to have extension and weaves put in their hair. And you know, take it you have. Enjoy it. Be free from it for a day.
HAMMER: Yes. And quite frankly, I`m looking at her hair right there and I don`t think there`s anything wrong with it yet. She said since she was 18, she`s been wearing the fake hair.
Jess, you mentioned that famous time that Tyra Banks walked out on to her show in a bathing suit. That happened after the tabloid magazines wrote some really nasty headlines about her. And we have unearthed that clip. Tyra firing back.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BANKS: I have something to say. To all of you that have something nasty to say about me or other women that are built like me - I have one to say to with you. Kiss my fat ass!
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. There you go. I mean, she showed us her real body. Today, she showed us her real hair. Jess, like then, I have to imagine once again women around the country cheering on Tyra.
WEINER: I think so. You know, look, A.J., I think so. I think "The Soup" will probably have a field day with this kind of stuff. But I will tell you that I think by Tyra trying to challenge some beauty stereotypes, she`s one celebrity out there who`s pretty outspoken about it.
And I can`t get down on her for that. I think everybody out there should look within them and say, "Do I need to spend all this time in hair and makeup and trying to be somebody I`m not?"
HAMMER: Right.
WEINER: That`s a good question for her viewers to ask themselves.
HAMMER: Well, while Tyra was revealing the secret of her hair, the secret of the Michelle Obama`s buff arms was revealed today. And the first lady`s longtime trainer, Cornell McClellan, spills the beans in a new interview with "Women`s Health" magazine.
He says - are you ready for it? The secret to Michelle`s fabulous arms are, my favorite, hammer curls and tricep push-downs. April, hammer curls and tricep push-downs - that`s it. Not too complicated.
WOODARD: Who knew?
HAMMER: Is this going to inspire women everywhere to do hammer curls and tricep push-downs?
WOODARD: I know. Who knew that we had to wait so long to get Michelle Obama`s political arms? But you know, I did a story with, you know, another trainer who tried to tell me the secret but he didn`t quite have the secret. So I`m glad the secret is finally out.
But you know, the bigger picture is, you know, about 65 percent of Americans are obese and overweight. And if she can inspire people to work out their arms, maybe they`ll get to the rest of their body and we`ll be a healthier nation.
HAMMER: Jess, let me ask you this. Do you think that Michelle Obama, now that she`s inspiring the nation to have toned arms, needs to do - I don`t know - a workout video, let`s say perhaps with Richard Simmons? Can we imagine that for a moment?
WOODARD: No.
HAMMER: Do you think this would inspire people everywhere?
WEINER: No, no. A.J., no. No, please. Here`s what I want. I want us - this is good that we know that the secret to hard - you know, hardworking good arms is exercise and nutrition.
But I want us to focus on the content of her character and her powerful choices as first lady. And let us get off her appearance train for a while. She is a fabulous woman besides her fit arms. I want girls out there to look up to her not just because she`s got, you know, great biceps, but because she`s a fantastic leader herself.
HAMMER: I agree with you 100 percent, Jess. But you know, people are paying attention to that and that is not going away. Let it be a part of the whole equation if it must be there.
WEINER: Absolutely.
HAMMER: Jess Weiner, April Woodard, thank you both so much. All right. Poor George Clooney. I mean, the guy can`t even go to a press conference without getting hit on.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
CLOONEY: I know what the question is.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: George, please, take me. Choose me, George. Please, please, choose me. George, may I kiss you, please?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: George is one of the coolest guys. So I`m wondering, how did he respond to a guy stripping down and asking him for a kiss? You must see what happens next. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.
TEXT: Photographer Annie Leibovitz could lose copyright to her work due to debt. Lawsuit over "Lord of the Rings" profits settled with author`s estate.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
Tonight, things get really loony for George Clooney at the Venice Film Festival. Clooney is at the festival tonight to premiere his new movie called, "The Men Who Stare at Goats."
Well, something happened that was even stranger than the title of that movie when a guy at a press conference - well, just see for yourself.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I didn`t see your movie yet, but I -
CLOONEY: It`s very good.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, yes. But I saw you. And - I don`t know how to say it.
CLOONEY: I know what the question is.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I am gay, George. And -
CLOONEY: Here it comes.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think I am in love with you. George, please, take me. Choose me, George. Please, please, choose me. George, may I kiss you, please? Just one kiss? Please, George, one kiss?
CLOONEY: It`s hard when you take a big chance and it doesn`t really work. It is always embarrassing when you take one real swing for the fences and it just falls flat. It`s good try, though. You know, the tie looks good and it`s just long enough. You stay there. We`ll get back to you. There is a little ambulance on its way here.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is a question for Mr. Clooney. My name is Richard from "The Daily Mail" in London.
CLOONEY: Take your clothes of before you answer this question.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m over here. It`s really not worth it, honestly. I`m going to keep them on.
CLOONEY: You look great, anyway.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I guess I`m watching you, too.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. George is the coolest guy on the planet. Certainly one way to stand out at a press conference there. And Clooney, of course, being a big-time movie star, arrived in Venice last night by speedboat.
Now, you may have noticed that his hand was all wrapped up. That`s because he actually shut his car door on his hand.
Well, Jennifer Aniston says she still believes in love. In a brand- new interview with Australia`s "Harper`s Bazaar" just released today, Jen was asked if her relationships have made her cynical. She says no way.
As for why romance sometimes dies, Jennifer says, "I think it`s laziness. I really do. I think a good relationship is about collaboration. That`s the way to go in a relationship. I think you just need to talk to each other, say what you need, say what you want. That way, it`s not threatening. You just need to say this is important to me. Don`t expect your mate to read your mind."
Great advice from Jennifer Aniston. And she has learned a lot. Well, thank you for watching. That is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. And please keep this in mind you can always catch SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on the 11:00s. We`re on at 11:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific, and we`re on in the morning at 11:00 a.m. Eastern, and that`s right here on HLN.
