(MUSIC PLAYING)
Hello. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.
And tonight, Jon Gosselin`s confessions just one day after we heard Jon claim he was an abused husband. Well, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can now reveal these brand-new and almost unbelievable breaking developments about his split from Kate and how he really feels about his 22-year-old girlfriend.
SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom pulling out all the stops today to get to the bottom of Jon`s first interview since splitting with Kate. After eight children and 10 years of marriage, Jon says he has found his true love, his true soul mate, the woman he`s really been looking for all his life, the young daughter of his wife`s tummy tuck plastic surgeon.
SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is also now digging into Jon`s revelations about a Dr.Phil connection to trying to save his marriage with Kate. Yes, I know what you`re asking. What the heck does Dr. Phil have to do with Jon and Kate?
But wait, there is more. For the very first time, Jon is talking about all those reports that were floating around that Kate might have been having an affair with her bodyguard. And I was shocked by what he said and on national television.
Joining me tonight in New York is Carolina Bermudez who is a senior editor for "In Touch Weekly." In Hollywood, it`s Carlos Diaz who is a correspondent for "Extra." And Lillian Glass who is a psychologist.
My jaw dropped when I saw Jon Gosselin`s brand-new interview on the ABC special called "Family Secrets." It dropped. Let me tell you, no shortage of secrets revealed on the show. Jon was an open book. We saw tears. We saw rage.
And then, there was love, deep love, I`m talking, for his 22-year-old girlfriend, a woman by the name of Hailey Glassman. Their relationship may reek to a lot of people of rebound, but Jon says, not so. They are soul mates.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JON GOSSELIN, REALITY TV STAR, "JON & KATE PLUS 8": Love her.
CHRIS CUOMO, ABC CORRESPONDENT: Love her - big word.
J. GOSSELIN: Huge word. I don`t know. It`s like when you look at her - I don`t know - my heart pounds. I get sweaty. I don`t know. I feel like I love her more than I did Kate. Polar opposite of Kate.
I get encouragement from her. I get respect from her. Two things a man needs. This is someone that - I mean, like soul mate, like people joke about that. But I`m not joking about that.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: OK. Let me recap for you now. Jon loves his 22-year-old girlfriend he has known for a few months more than the mother of his eight children that he was married to for 10 years. Carlos, work with me on this. It just sounds a little off to me.
CARLOS DIAZ, CORRESPONDENT, "EXTRA": This is the part of the show where I talk to Jon directly. Now, Jon - dude, OK. Let me get this straight. You love her, yet you`ve only been with her for a few months. And you`re willing to ruin all the good will that you got on the show as a good dad for this one person?
If you would have kept this relationship on the down low with all the good will you had as this great dad and this great person, then you could have had any girl you want.
And I`ve got news for you. After putting up with Kate, yes, any girl is going to seem like your soul mate because that was a tough relationship.
And one more thing - she supports and loves you? Anyone is going to do that because that`s what people do when they`re in relationships. This girl is a rebound girl. Get it through your head.
HAMMER: He has been touched in some kind of a way that he has just never known before in life. So, Carlos, I don`t know. A lot of controversy has been floating around over who exactly called off the marriage. Was it Jon or was it Kate?
Because, quite frankly, both of them blaming each other since this thing happened. Well, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has been busy looking for answers for weeks. And now, in this never-before-seen interview, Jon says not only did Kate call it off, she refused to go to marriage counseling. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
J. GOSSELIN: I went to therapy and I learned about myself. If she is not going to therapy, she`s not going to fix herself. Then it`s not going to work. It takes two people. I have a $22,000 therapy bill. I mean, I tried to have marriage counseling. I did it myself. She refused to go.
CUOMO: So she never went?
J. GOSSELIN: Never went. She wanted me to fly to California and meet with Dr. Phil and I was very hesitant. I mean, I was like, what the heck is this?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. I`m not going to Charles, our director, roll that tape back. But I`m pretty sure he just said Dr. Phil there. Carolina Bermudez, off to you. Could you have seen it possibly going down this way with Kate actually wanting to work out their marriage with a little help from good old Dr. Phil?
CAROLINA BERMUDEZ, SENIOR EDITOR, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": Unbelievably, yes, I could believe that. Because these two people do not want to live their lives off of the television screen. They`re like one big contradiction.
They don`t want to be in the media, but yet, they are giving exclusive interviews. Jon doesn`t want to be seen as a bad dad, yet he`s going out partying in the Hamptons and in Vegas.
I mean, I think that they both don`t even know what they are saying at this point. And I don`t even think that therapy, well, much less Dr. Phil, could have helped them at all.
HAMMER: Well, maybe we`ll get a little help from Lillian Glass here. She`s a psychologist on staff here at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT right now. And I do know, Dr. Glass, that, you know, divorce is said to be more difficult than death at times.
And you have seen this over and over in your life dealing with this. How do you think Jon is dealing with the whole thing? Is he doing an OK job or is it just a mess?
DR. LILLIAN GLASS, PSYCHOLOGIST: I think Jon is going through the stages and we`re seeing this spill out. I mean, this is an abused person. His wife had abused him and we all saw it on camera repeatedly.
And now, he is really lashing out. He`s lashing out in terms of anger, about his hatred for Kate because he`s a lot more vulnerable and he`s hurt. And so he`s letting all of his emotions out.
And he`s not saying, "Wait a minute, I shouldn`t talk about this. This is the mother of my children." He is just letting loose because Kate has started it. So now, he`s fighting back.
HAMMER: Yes. And when I hear him talking about his love for this 22-year- old, I have to see that really as he wants to put that on TV to kind of get a dig in at Kate, just to show him how happy he now is.
GLASS: You are so correct.
HAMMER: Yes. Here`s something else that Jon talked about publicly for the first time that I just found striking - the reports that Jon suspects Kate was cheating on him with her security guard. We all remember those reports floating around. Kate has denied having an affair a whole lot in the past. But Jon went on nationwide TV to say he still has his suspicions. Take a look at this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
CUOMO: Was Kate dating somebody?
J. GOSSELIN: I don`t know. I speculate, but I don`t know.
CUOMO: Before you?
J. GOSSELIN: Before me, yes. And I`ve questioned it and asked.
CUOMO: Is it the guy that I`ve read about?
J. GOSSELIN: Of course.
CUOMO: The security guard?
J. GOSSELIN: That`s who she spends time with.
CUOMO: But isn`t he married?
J. GOSSELIN: That`s right. But I can say what I want, too. Everyone forms an opinion -
CUOMO: But is that tit-for-tat or are you genuinely feeling?
J. GOSSELIN: No, that`s a general feel.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Wow. Now, Carlos, I`m looking at this, thinking yet another completely inappropriate thing for Jon to be talking about on national TV.
DIAZ: Total tit-for-tat, by the way. Total tit-for-tat. He goes that he was the one who moved on first. And this is his way to go, "Well, yes, Kate. You`re with that bodyguard all the time. Are you hooking up? Yes, I think you are. I`m jealous."
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You did too. You did too.
DIAZ: Exactly. It`s total transference. And you know what, dude? You don`t accuse the mother of your children of having an affair on national TV. Yet, another strike against Jon Gosselin.
HAMMER: And I don`t think I have ever heard Jon talk so much. You know, usually, we see him grunt and groan and roll his eyes when they are sitting together on "Jon & Kate" or when he is being interviewed on their show.
But on this ABC special, once he started talking, he didn`t shut up. Not only that, he actually got pretty emotional, which I found surprising especially when he was talking about his kids. Let`s roll that.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
J. GOSSELIN: The pictures I gave you. I cried when I pick through the pictures. Maybe I should have kissed Mady and Cara more, you know. It`s tough.
CUOMO: Do you feel like you let them down?
J. GOSSELIN: I won`t know.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Wow. Carolina, I`m looking at that, thinking those are not crocodile tears as much as this guy loves being on TV and showing off for everybody. What do you think?
BERMUDEZ: I don`t think they are crocodile tears. But he`s going to know because his daughters are old enough now to read, to hear everything that is going on. Saying that you despise their mother is going to get back to them.
So unfortunately, yes, there going to be those moments that he did miss when he was out gallivanting with his 22-year-old girlfriend. But that`s on him. Now, he needs to be a man and take responsibility for his actions.
HAMMER: Lillian, can you help me out really quickly to understand what is driving Jon to continue to feed this frenzy that he so desperately wants stopped?
GLASS: I think Jon is so hurt and he`s just letting it all out. And he wants people to see who he is because he has been silent for so long. He`s been abused. He hasn`t said anything until now.
And so, he`s just exposing everything and he has no boundaries, unfortunately. So everything is coming out. I think both of them need to stop this immediately and go see a counselor and do it privately.
HAMMER: Amen. I have been saying that all along. Please, guys - please, shut up. And I`m not talking to my guests. I`m talking to Jon and Kate.
Carolina Bermudez, Carlos Diaz, Lillian, I am thanking you. And you do not want to miss more of our explosive coverage of Jon and Kate Gosselin. So are Jon and Kate just total hypocrites?
Yes, that`s right. We are not afraid to ask. We`ve got a fired-up panel ready to go on this. And I have got plenty to add as well. That`s coming up.
Well, right now, we have got big stars revealing their true confessions to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Jennifer Aniston`s explosive new love confessions.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ANISTON: You have to be willing to be sort of be that vulnerable with another person and let all those parts be seen and not resist it because then, there is no real point.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Will Jennifer ever find love? Does she really blame herself for all those breakups - you know, Brad, Vince, John? I know people get really fired up when we talk about Jen`s love life. And you got to hear what she revealed to us. It is the interview you`ll see only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

KATHY GRIFFIN, COMEDIENNE: Yes.

GRIFFIN: Was a pedophile - yes.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: You heard right. Kathy said "pedophile." You have got to see this emotional blockbuster interview. SHOWBIZ true confessions. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
Tonight, some on-court nooky for Nadal. I`m talking, of course, about tennis star Rafael Nadal. Did you see this? After just winning his latest match at the U.S. Open in New York, a fan rushed on to the court and planted a big old wet one on Rafael.
I guess he just wanted to show Rafa some love. Get it? Tennis? Love? Seriously though, this was a little scary. And I wonder, what exactly is it with the out-of-control fans trying to get so up close and very personal with their favorite stars?
We told you about this guy who stripped down and asked George Clooney to kiss him in the middle of a press conference?
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don`t know what to say.
GEORGE CLOONEY, ACTOR: I know what the question is.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I am gay, George. I think I`m in love with you. George, please take me. Choose me, George. Please! Please choose me, George. May I kiss you, please?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. OK. Maybe this guy and the Nadal fan belong to the same obsessive fan club. And did you see this? Al Franken has a really neat party trick. Now, you would think that the "Saturday Night Live" alum- turned-Minnesota senator would actually entertain people by telling great political jokes.
But it turns out, he has another great talent. Franken can draw a map of the United States in under two minutes. And I`m not kidding. Here`s CNN`s Jeanne Moos for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
JEANNE MOOS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Al Franken isn`t just a senator. He`s a cartographer. But you can do what he did the other day at the Minnesota state fair. Minnesota public radio put it to music. Sen. Franken starts with the state he represents, Minnesota and draws a map of the U.S. from memory in under two minutes.
(on camera): He`s got Cape Cod OK.
(voice-over): He seems to know every cape, every panhandle. The blogs have taken to calling this Sen. Franken`s party trick. He`s been doing it for decades.
SEN. AL FRANKEN (D-MN): Stupid human trick.
MOOS: Twenty-two years ago, he did it on Letterman.
DAVID LETTERMAN, HOST, "LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN": Al Franken, go.
FRANKEN: The United States -
MOOS: Usually, he auctions them off the maps at fundraisers for anywhere from $200 to $5,000. But the $64,000 question?
LETTERMAN: Why did you learn to do this?
FRANKEN: A bar bet.
MOOS: In college, he bet someone he could name all of the states, forgot one and started drawing the map so he`d never forget again. Finished 13 seconds under two minutes, this is in a country where five out of ten 18 to 24-year-olds can`t find New York State on a map.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That`s got to be in here.
(BUZZER)
MOOS (on camera): That`s Pennsylvania.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That`s New York right here.
(BUZZER)
MOOS: No, that`s New Jersey.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I mean, here`s New York.
MOOS: Yes!
(voice-over): Compared to that, Al Franken is a geography god showing us the states of the United States. But could he draw a map of the provinces of Canada? I asked because, unfortunately, I couldn`t.
I made the mortifying error of saying a squirrel who became an Internet sensation hailed Banff, British Columbia instead of Alberta. My apologies, Alberta.
(on camera): The squirrel should have spanked me.
(voice-over): But geography whiz Al Franken not only can draw the U.S. map in under two minutes, he can banter while he does it, asking why Minnesota is so windy.
FRANKEN: ... cause the Dakotas blow. And Wisconsin cries.
MOOS: So do jokes about Geography.
(on camera): Virginia, Pennsylvania - what`s that?
TEXT: Maryland.
(BUZZER)
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: Didn`t you just spank a squirrel? That was CNN`s Jeanne Moos for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Hey, the "Showbiz on Call" phone lines keep on ringing with calls from all over the map about Jon Gosselin`s explosive new TV interview.
In fact, we have given our "Showbiz on Call" operators GPS units so they can keep up with where all these calls are coming from. We heard from Gayle in Wisconsin calling in to "Showbiz on Call" to say she can`t stand Kate.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
CALLER: Say what you will about Jon Gosselin, but I got to the point where I wouldn`t watch the show anymore because I got sick and tired of Kate belittling him all the time. I thought she was just a horrible person.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
HAMMER: Thank you, Gayle. And we also heard from Nadia calling in to "Showbiz on Call" from Florida. And Nadia pretty much says that Jon is acting like a spoiled brat.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
CALLER: I believe that Jon is acting like a little child. And he`s trying to get contaminated with the Hollywood lifestyle, running around, chasing women, buying expensive cars and trying to hang out in cool spots.
I mean, I`m sorry. Can you just try to go ahead and take that the money and spend it on the kids? I think both of them need to get off the TV and try to concentrate on their children.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
HAMMER: Appreciate your call, Nadia. Why don`t you give us a buzz at "Showbiz on Call" to let us know what you think about Jon and Kate or anything else. The "Showbiz on Call" phone lines are open all the time - 1-888-SBT-BUZZ; 1-888-728-2899. Call the number to leave us a voicemail so we can play your call here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

We have just learned Janet Jackson will pay tribute to her brother, Michael, by opening the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. Now, there is no word on whether or not she`s going to perform.
And in her first interview since Michael`s June 25th death, Janet tells "Harper`s Bazaar" magazine this about the media frenzy surrounding Michael`s death, "It will drive you crazy. People can have rhinoceros skin, but there`s a point when something`s going to hurt you. Not everyone is stone."
Janet also says the last time she saw Michael alive was back in May at a family celebration and they had a great time. You can read more in the October issue of "Harper`s Bazaar" on newsstands September 22nd.
Impeached Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich continued his nonstop TV tour, just this morning, appearing on "The View" with his wife, Patty, to plug his new book. Blago still says he didn`t try to sell President Obama`s vacant Senate seat. And he channeled the King to proclaim his innocence.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
FMR. GOV. ROD BLAGOJEVICH (D-IL): Elvis appeared before in Madison Square Garden here in New York. And the first thing he said to the press was, "First of all, I`d like to say, innocent of all charges." He gave all that background.
And I want the people to know those are false allegations. And I write about that in the book. I`m going to prove my innocence. I`ll be fully vindicated.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. This guy likes comparing himself to Elvis. But I think the only thing they really have in common is the poofy hair, right?
Well, people all fired up on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT Facebook page about Jon Gosselin`s shocking TV interview, the very first since he and Kate split up.
Lizzy M. writing, "If what Jon said about changing himself for Kate because he loved her is true, then I think that`s wrong. You should never change the person you are for someone else."
But Lisa W. says, "Jon knew when he married Kate that she was controlling. Stop crying, Jon. You knew her and married her anyway. You big baby."

(MUSIC PLAYING)
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.
And tonight, I have been waiting for this. It is Jennifer Aniston`s love confessions in the brand-new interview Jen just did with SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. You cannot miss a moment of it.
I can tell you we have spoken with Jen many times over the years. But this is really the most open I have ever seen her talking about love, why it works, why it doesn`t and why men and women everywhere just need to pay attention to what she is saying. Because what Jennifer Aniston reveals to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is making big news right now.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
Bye-bye, Oprah. See you, "Millionaire Match Maker." Dr. Phil, the doctor is out. Hollywood now has a new expert on love. And her name is Jennifer Aniston.
ANISTON: Love brings up everything unlike itself.
HAMMER: Jennifer Aniston is opening up to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, sharing with us her recipe for finding love.
ANISTON: I think you have to relinquish control.
HAMMER: Keeping love -
ANISTON: Women can do too much. I mean, over-doting on somebody.
HAMMER: And surviving love`s end.
ANISTON: It`s not the longevity of a relationship that shows its success.
HAMMER: You may ask, what are Aniston`s qualifications to expound on the subject of love? Well, there is the string of super-famous men she has been linked to such as Vince Vaughn, John Mayer and Gerard Butler, not to mention the guy she was married to. Plus, she starred in no less than a billion romantic movies.
VINCE VAUGHN, ACTOR: You said on our very first date that you don`t like flowers, that they are a waste of money.
ANISTON: Every girl likes flowers, Gary.
HAMMER: Such as "The Breakup," "He`s Just Not That Into You," and now, the upcoming "Love Happens," where she plays an unlucky-in-love florist alongside Aaron Eckhart.
ANISTON: My life is a day-by-day experiment in really bad decisions.
HAMMER: So since Aniston stars in "Love Happens," SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is asking Aniston what it actually takes to make love happen.
ANISTON: People have ways that, well, it`s supposed to look like this. And you know, they have of these rules already, sort of preset ideas of what the person is supposed to be, how it`s supposed to be, when it`s supposed to be, all of these plans. I don`t think it`s something you can control or really choose. It sort of chooses you.
HAMMER: Aniston`s second job as a Hollywood love guru is already making waves. In the new Australian edition of "Harper`s Bazaar" Aniston says women often do too much in relationships, saying, "Women complain that men don`t do enough, but it`s your own fault. You train your man to do nothing. You can`t blame someone for not knowing what his or her job should be if you don`t ask for it right off the bat. Don`t expect your mate to read your mind."
So SHOWBIZ TONIGHT had to ask Jen face to face, "Hey, Jen, what did you mean by that?
ANISTON: I think you need to know that if you are going into, you know, a rental situation, you are going to either - you`re going to maybe paint the walls a little bit. But ultimately, the structure is what it is. And if you go into anything thinking that you`re going to change them, that`s not really fair.
HAMMER: Aniston also reveals to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT the number one enemy of romance. She says it`s laziness.
ANISTON: I think like anything, if you are lazy with it, it dies. You also have to realize that it evolves. It changes. I mean, everybody knows this. This is not anything new.
HAMMER: Of course, now, people must decide if Jennifer Aniston is qualified to give love advice. If she is, maybe we found her a new career she can fall back on in case that whole actress thing doesn`t work out.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: Jennifer Aniston, love guru. It kind of has a nice ring to it, doesn`t it? So should she be crowned the love guru for our generation?
Well, joining me tonight in New York is Carolina Bermudez. She is the senior editor for "In Touch Weekly." In Hollywood tonight is Leslie Marshall, host of the syndicated radio program, "The Leslie Marshall Show."
Carolina, I`ve got to tell you, I was pretty amazed at how open Jen was with us. What do you think? Should people be taking her advice?
BERMUDEZ: Well, I was pretty surprised, too. She`s a very guarded person. Rarely does she ever let us look into her love life. But it`s kind of hard to take advice from someone who hasn`t had a successful career, so to speak, in the love game.
You know, a lot of what she said did make sense, though. And I think she`s had a lot of experience with her relationships. But I`m not sure if I`m going to follow what she says or her instructions to the letter just yet.
HAMMER: Well, there is always the theory, "Learn from my mistakes."
BERMUDEZ: Right.
HAMMER: And maybe that`s part of where she is coming from. Everybody is always talking about all the relationships that Jen has had. She was dating John Mayer, Vince Vaughn, reportedly, Gerard Butler. Some of those pretty short-lived romances. Jen does tell SHOWBIZ TONIGHT short relationships don`t necessarily equate to failure. Watch.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ANISTON: It`s not the longevity of a relationship that shows its success. I think it`s the - you know, if you have a really positive two-year experience that taught you something, it doesn`t mean - I don`t think that determines the failure or success - or the failure of love.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Leslie, what do you think? Are you buying that advice or the justification as it may appear to be that it is not about longevity? Or are you sitting there, thinking right now, "Earth to Jen. You just keep picking the wrong guys, Jen"?
LESLIE MARSHALL, HOST, "THE LESLIE MARSHALL SHOW": I do think, "Earth to Jen." She keeps picking the wrong guys. And I also think she is lying just a tad because every woman out there knows, A.J., that we are looking for the ring and the long-term commitment.
We are not looking to rent, as she said, and just put some paint on the walls. We`re not looking for a two-year solid relationship. Most of us are looking for marriage. Most of us want that to be a lifetime commitment, to have a family with that person.
And you know, how many people are like, "Oh, I had a great two-year marriage. Next time, I`ll try for four." Maybe that`s why we have a 54 percent divorce rate in this country.
HAMMER: Yes.
MARSHALL: But I - no. She is wrong on that because even though she was married - well, that`s seven years to Brad Pitt and they said it was a good seven years, I`m sure she didn`t marry him going into it thinking, "Let`s try for seven."
HAMMER: Yes, exactly right. I`m sure that`s exactly the case. And I mentioned that Jen loves to do movies that seem to reflect her troubled love life. Whether that`s intentional or not, I don`t know.
But I did do a little digging today because I wanted to see what Jen was working on for her next few movies. Now, according to IMDB, "She is planning on doing "Chemistry," "Getting Rid of Matthew" and "The Divorce Party." And I`m no rocket scientist here, admittedly, but I`m guessing these are all romantic comedies, not big war epics.
What do you think, Carolina? Jennifer says people shouldn`t be lazy in the romance. But is there something lazy about cashing in on her rocky love life with these kinds of movies?
BERMUDEZ: Yes. It`s not much of a stretch for the poor girl. You know, "The Divorce Party," I don`t think there is any method acting that needs to go into that. I think she`s pretty much lived that whole part of her life right now.
And I do have to agree with Leslie. I mean, here`s the thing about relationships. When you`re talking to a woman, yes, it sounds great. Everything that she is saying sounds so nice and sweet.
But when you get down to it, people want to be together. You want to find your companion.
HAMMER: Yes.
BERMUDEZ: And it`s just unfortunate that she hasn`t found that yet.
HAMMER: Well, all this said, I agree with you on that. We do love Jen and we do appreciate her sharing her advice with us. Carolina Bermudez, Leslie Marshall, thanks, guys. I appreciate it.
And you can check out Jennifer`s entire interview on CNN.com/ShowbizTonight.
OK. Is it me or is Jon Gosselin just contradicting himself all over the place? You know, first, he says he`ll always love Kate, the mother of his eight kids. Now, he says he despises her.
So what gives and what about Kate? Are they both just hypocrites? It`s the great Jon and Kate debate you cannot miss.
Also, Kathy Griffin`s family secrets. Now, we all know and love Kathy for being just hilarious. But she tackles some pretty serious topics in her new book.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BROWN: You talk about your brother ...
GRIFFIN, COMEDIENNE: Yes.
BROWN: ... who you say in the book -
GRIFFIN: Was a pedophile - yes.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Why did Kathy choose to go public with such a painful and private family secret?
Antonio Banderas opens up about his wife Melanie Griffith going to rehab again. In an interview with Ellen just today, Antonio gave the remarkable back story of why his wife of 15 years is back in rehab after years of sobriety. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom. They are making news right now.
TEXT: Apple unveils new iPod line up, including Nanos with video cameras. Robert De Niro, Bruce Springsteen and Mel Brooks to receive Kennedy Center honors.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
Tonight, love them or hate them, Jon and Kate Gosselin are at it again. And in a brand-new interview, Jon Gosselin just lets loose on his soon to be ex-wife, Kate.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
J. GOSSELIN: I don`t trust her anymore. I was abused. I was verbally abused. I was beaten down. She separated me from my family.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: But wait - SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is revealing tonight that Jon`s explosive new interview - it`s just chockfull of contradictions. Watch what else he said.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
J. GOSSELIN: I will always love Kate as the mother of my kids.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: The crazy contradictions. And Kate has been speaking from both sides of her mouth too. The terrible tell-all. So tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT dares to ask, are Jon and Kate both hypocrites?
Joining me tonight from Hollywood is Carlos Diaz who is a correspondent for "Extra." Also from Hollywood, Leslie Marshall, host of the fantastic "Leslie Marshall Show."
So this is Jon`s first TV interview since he and Kate split up. I want to begin with him. Carlos, does it seem to you that Jon really does keep speaking from both sides of his mouth?
DIAZ: Completely, A.J., "I love Kate yet I despise her. I love Hailey, yet I`m going to be on a new show about bachelors." I mean, make up your mind, dude. I mean, I know it was a three-hour interview. And we can probably pick up a lot of contradictions in anybody`s interview with the last three hours. But you`ve got to know your stuff going in.
And he accuses Kate of not speaking from the heart. Maybe he needed to be coached a little more going into this. There were a few parts of this interview where I felt for Jon. For the most part, I think he comes across as not winning in this interview.
HAMMER: Yes. He really needed one path and to stay on that path from beginning to end. But I will tell you that SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has uncovered proof Jon is not alone when it comes to making these contradictory statements.
Kate really does seem to be playing the same game. You remember last month, she told CNN`s Larry King that she refuses to talk badly and get into details about her and Jon. Well, let me remind you.
KATE GOSSELIN, REALITY TV STAR, "JON & KATE PLUS 8": My main concern is my kids. And I don`t want them to see or hear anything on TV that I didn`t discuss with them. And we discussed what they need to know at their developmental age group. But I don`t feel like I need to go any further than that at this time.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Aha! At the same time, the very same week, she wasn`t very kind when she told this to "People" magazine, "Sometimes I feel like it`s a 15- year-old I`m getting divorced from." Leslie, clearly this falls under the definition of hypocrisy.
MARSHALL: Absolutely. And if it`s a 15-year-old she`s divorcing, then how old was he when she married him? I mean, seriously. Seriously, this goes beyond love-hate with these guys.
You know, if I hear that, "I just care about my kids" one more time, I think I`m going to pull my hair out. She doesn`t care about the kids. I don`t care what they discuss with the kids. She is being hypocritical because they are - Jon is their father.
And even if you detest him as a woman that was married to him, you have to preserve the relationship between the father and the children, especially when you have eight of them. They are so young.
And come on, when they go to the supermarket, you don`t think they see the tabloids? You don`t think when they`re channel-surfing, they - you know, they see different things that we are talking about, you know, such as on SHOWBIZ?
You know, I don`t care what she`s telling them. They know more. And these two, if they really care about their kids, they need to respect each other as nothing other than the parents of these kids if they can`t go beyond that, if they hate each other so much. They`ve got to like each other just a bit for the sake of the children.
HAMMER: Absolutely. And Leslie, while you are busy pulling your hair out, my head is busy spinning, because here`s yet another contradiction that really I think is so over the top.
On the one hand, you have Jon complaining about all the attention he gets from those tabloids. On the other hand, there`s talk that he may do a reality show with the biggest tabloid train wrecks of them all, Lindsay Lohan`s father, Michael, and Britney Spears` ex, Kevin Federline. Watch what he tells Chris Cuomo on ABC. And in fact, Cuomo can`t even believe his ears. Check this out.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
CUOMO: That collection of guys going out, what impression do you think people are going to get from that?
J. GOSSELIN: It doesn`t matter. But if they speak from the heart -
CUOMO: It matters. If you care about your kids, it matters.
J. GOSSELIN: Fine. My kids don`t know Michael Lohan.
CUOMO: But they`re going to.
J. GOSSELIN: Correct.
CUOMO: They`re going to know - I don`t care about who`s involved. They`re going to know what you do. They`re going to know right now. They`re going to know from your friends. They`re going to in the Internet in a few years.
J. GOSSELIN: They know I have a good heart. I will have to make the analysis if I`m going to do "The Divorced Dads Club."
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Yes. OK, Carlos, help me out here because it`s unclear to me if Jon actually got the gist of what Chris Cuomo was trying to say to him, "Dude, bad idea these guys. Stay away. Run."
DIAZ: I used to play basketball against Chris Cuomo every Saturday morning in New York when I lived there. He`s a big dude. I was hoping he would shake him and go, "Dude, what are you doing? Come on, get through with it."
I mean, the thing is - I mean, you want privacy, yet you say, "I love Hailey." I mean, there is a reason why stars don`t talk about their private lives because they want privacy.
So if you want privacy, don`t keep talking about how much you love this girl and don`t sit there and talk about going on reality shows with other people like K-Fed and Michael Lohan when they`re not the best role models in the world.
HAMMER: How he has not figured it out yet based on the experiences that he has had since, what, the spring time when all this started unfolding - that is beyond me.
All right. Jon and Kate, do you love to hate them? Well, that`s what we asked on air and online. It was our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Let`s put those results up, Charles. A whopping 64 percent of you said no, you don`t love to hate Jon and Kate. Thirty-six percent said yes.
Leslie, do you think that maybe, just maybe, the unthinkable is happening? People are actually just starting to feel a little sorry for these guys?
MARSHALL: I don`t know if they`re feeling sorry for them, A.J., or if they are starting to get a little sick of them especially because of the constant contradictions and hypocrisy, "I just want to have a private life, but I`m going to do 10 reality shows. Call me Joe Go(ph)."
You know, so it just absolutely does not surprise me that America is, you know, maybe looking at them as being, you know, greedy and opportunistic people more so than the Jon and Kate that I and many Americans originally fell in love with - I mean, a couple dealing with eight kids.
HAMMER: It`s just not exactly what it started. It actually doesn`t resemble what it started out to be really in any way at all. Carlos Diaz, Leslie Marshall, thanks, guys.
As we move on tonight, Antonio Banderas is setting the record straight about his wife Melanie Griffith going to rehab. In an interview just today with Ellen DeGeneres, Antonio said it is true. Melanie did go back to treatment after years of sobriety and he explained why.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ANTONIO BANDERAS, ACTOR: It was said actually in some magazines that I gave an ultimatum to my wife, that I presented a demand of divorce because she has been involved in addictions and blah, blah, blah. Melanie has been an addict for many years and we always came out and we said it out loud.
It was OK. You know, we never were embarrassed of the situation. But what happened next is she was clean and sober for six years. She got a crash skiing in Aspen a year-and-a-half ago, so she went through three operations in her knee. So she has to - obligated to use narcotics.
ELLEN DEGENERES, HOST, "THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW": Right.
BANDERAS: In March, she came to me and said, "You know what? I feel a little bit weak in my determination for this. So I just thought to go to rehabilitation by myself." You know, so the whole, entire family is supporting her. And I`m supporting her and (UNINTELLIGIBLE). I`m very proud of her.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
HAMMER: Antonio said so many families actually try to keep addictions a secret, but you shouldn`t run and hide and be afraid because if you face it head on, you get the person you love back. Antonio and Melanie have been together for 15 years.
Well, tonight, Kathy Griffin`s family secrets. Kathy is hilarious, of course. But in her new book, she is tackling some very serious subjects from her own life.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BROWN: You talk about your brother ...
GRIFFIN, COMEDIENNE: Yes.
BROWN: ... who you say in the book -
GRIFFIN: Was a pedophile - yes.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Why did Kathy choose to be so open about such a painful family secret? This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.
TEXT: Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Jamey Johnson, George Strait, Zac Brown band. Each receives four Country Music Association nominations. Taylor Swift has sold more than 20 million song downloads, most in country music.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Tonight, Kathy Griffin`s family secrets. Kathy`s got a brand-new book out. And in it, she writes about her brother being a pedophile. In a new interview with CNN`s Campbell Brown, she talks about why she wrote about it. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BROWN: You talk about your brother ...
GRIFFIN, COMEDIENNE: Yes.
BROWN: ... who you say in the book -
GRIFFIN: Was a pedophile - yes.
BROWN: Was a pedophile -
GRIFFIN: And went to prison and was a crack addict and all kinds of problems - yes.
BROWN: And then died in your mother`s arms?
GRIFFIN: Yes. It was a very, very traumatic thing for my entire family and I would say, in particular, my mom and dad. But you know what? The reason I talk about it is -number one, I couldn`t write the book without writing about him, period. Period. Just couldn`t do it, you know.
BROWN: Why? Was it something you needed to -
GRIFFIN: Well, it is a tell-all memoir, you know. I think it is better that I told the story than some reporter found out, you know. And also, I think it`s important for people to know that secrets do nothing but fester. I`ve never been a keeper of secrets and I`m not going to start now.
BROWN: So was it hard writing that? I mean, emotionally -
GRIFFIN: Yes. It was awful. It was awful living through it and writing about it. Awful. Terrible.
BROWN: Any sense of catharsis, closure? I don`t know if you ever get closure when you`re talking about something like that.
GRIFFIN: Yes, I think so. You know, I think that, you know, everyone has a relative that is on the fringe in some way. And people always think it is only in their family. So I think that`s an important thing.
You know, a big part of act is saying celebrities do these crazy things just like non-celebrities do. And in this book, I wrote about things that, you know, there were times where I thought it was only happening in my family. It only happened to me.
And in fact, you know, everything from my failed marriage to my brother, with all his issues, too, you know, all the funny stuff in between - it is the story of my life. I mean, I couldn`t leave that stuff out.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Well, Kathy Griffin`s book wins best title of the year. It is called "Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir to Kathy Griffin." And it is on sale right now.
So we have been asking to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. It is this, "Jon and Kate Gosselin: Do you love to hate them?" Look at these results so far. Thirty-six percent of you said yes; so 64 percent of you said now.
A bunch of E-mails coming in, too. Nancy in Illinois, "As much as Jon was verbally abused by Kate, I think he should have taken the high road and not have been so harsh." We`re hearing a lot of that.
Also Caryle from Wisconsin writing, "I agree Kate was quite bossy with Jon, but Jon was so overly `laid back` that it appeared Kate had to carry the largest share of the load."
And we thank you so much for writing. And I thank you so much for watching. That is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Keep in mind you can always catch SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on the 11:00s - we make it easy - 11:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific. And in the morning, we`re on at 11:00 a.m. Eastern, and that`s right here on HLN.
