THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

A.J. HAMMER, CO-HOST: We`ve got big news breaking today on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT - Regis` shocking announcement. Regis Philbin drops a bombshell today. He`s leaving "Live with Regis and Kelly."

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REGIS PHILBIN, CO-HOST, "LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY": this will be my last year on this show.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: And we`re asking, can the show go on without him?

BROOKE ANDERSON, CO-HOST: The mind-blowing Piers-Oprah interview reaction everybody is talking about. Piers Morgan`s blockbuster sit-down with Oprah today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OPRAH WINFREY, MEDIA MOGUL: I could weep over that but I`m not going to.

PIERS MORGAN, HOST, "PIERS MORGAN TONIGHT": Why would you?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Piers is right here and he is going to tell us what shocked him most about Oprah.

HAMMER: Charlie and Brooke, back together? Charlie Sheen, his estranged wife Brooke Mueller - explosive reports out today. Will they really patch things up?

ANDERSON: Jennifer Aniston`s "Friends" shocker. Jen`s unbelievable revelations today about her Rachel haircut.

HAMMER: TV`s most provocative entertainment news show -

ANDERSON: Starts right now.

(MUSIC)

HAMMER: Hello. I`m A.J. Hammer coming to you from New York City.

ANDERSON: Hi, there, everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today -a day of icons and shockers from Oprah to Regis Philbin.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PHILBIN: There is a time that, you know, everything must come to an end for certain people on campus, especially certain old people.

ANDERSON: Seventy-nine-year-old Regis Philbin delivered a wake-up call this morning that no one saw coming, announcing that he is retiring from his show after 28 years.

Even his co-host, Kelly Ripa, seemed rattled by Regis. So why is he leaving? And will anyone replace Regis or will the show be canceled? SHOWBIZ TONIGHT will all the late-breaking Regis developments in just a moment.

HAMMER: But first, the shockers from another icon, Oprah Winfrey. There was startling reaction today to the secrets that Oprah spilled to Piers Morgan on the debut of his new show on CNN, "PIERS MORGAN TONIGHT," including the never-before-heard revelation from Oprah about how she felt when she lost her baby after becoming pregnant at 14 years old.

Oprah telling Piers she actually felt like she caught a break. Watch this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WINFREY: I knew that when I lost that baby that for whom I had no connection to whatsoever, I will have to say. I was 14 years old and felt nothing but just, OK, relief.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: With me, right now, the man who got Oprah to open up so much, Piers Morgan. It is so cool to have you finally. You are here with us on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

MORGAN: I feel honored to be in your emporium here.

HAMMER: Well, we love having you in the emporium. And congratulations - your show obviously getting huge buzz, huge ratings success, and everybody really is talking about how much Oprah Winfrey revealed to you. Were you a bit stunned as to how much she was willing to tell?

MORGAN: I was, because you kind of feel with Oprah that she must have done so many interviews over the years. And she is so confessional on her own show that to try and pry anything that`s new out of her is pretty difficult.

But I felt that we had a great rapport. The chemistry was good. She relaxed - when anyone relaxes in an interview format, you are going to get stuff.

And she surprised me. She was very open, very frank. And as we`ve seen, she is a, you know, ratings blockbuster every time she speaks.

HAMMER: She surprised you and she said you surprised her.

MORGAN: Yes.

HAMMER: And I guess that is because she is a woman who is naturally on guard and she became so relaxed. And to me, one of the most startling revelations on that interview was the fact that she actually blamed herself for getting pregnant when she was just 14 years old. Let`s take a look at that.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WINFREY: I knew that me getting pregnant was a result of bad choices, and not having boundaries and the abuse - sexual abuse from the time I was nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, and becoming a promiscuous teenager and running the streets and going to be put into detention home and all of that.

So I knew when that I lost that baby that - for whom I had no connection to whatsoever, I will have to say. I was 14 years old and felt nothing but just, OK, relief, because I thought before the baby was born, I`m going to have to kill myself. I`m going to have to -

MORGAN: Did you really?

WINFREY: Oh, sure. For sure. My mother said, "You can`t stay here." So I had to move to live with my father in Nashville.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: I was shocked to hear say that she felt relieved that she lost the baby. How surprised were you?

MORGAN: I was shocked and - shocked by a number of parts of that story - one, that she was telling me at all. And secondly, that she felt like it was maybe the best thing that happened to her.

But she went on to say was really something quite graphic about her father without knowing that she was pregnant, saying, "Any daughter of mine ever brought shame on this family, I would want to see her washing up down the river."

So she had her own father telling her without knowing, "You know, you have a baby out of wedlock. I want you dead." This was a different time, a different era. It was something we can`t really understand in the modern era. But this is Oprah Winfrey.

HAMMER: And you look at her eyes as she`s telling you this. And you see her going to that place like anybody would, almost a confessional, you know, revealing something so personal.

MORGAN: It was like that. And I could tell it was something that she obviously thought about long and hard over the years, because I was curious as to whether Oprah felt she would have made a good mother.

She never has been a mother. I know she`s a godmother to many children, by all accounts, a wonderful godmother. And I can`t help but think that she told us so I`d wonder if she regrets not having that baby and losing it tragically, whether she regrets not having another child in her child.

HAMMER: And it sounded like, you know, she is perfectly good with how things turned out.

(CROSS TALK)

MORGAN: (INAUDIBLE) she just locks down. Bang.

HAMMER: Yes. And she has been very private throughout her life about her love life, which is why I thought it was incredible hearing Oprah telling you the story about a lover that broke her heart. And you worked her on this. Let`s roll that.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WINFREY: I look back in a relationship I thought that really broke my heart. I was keeping a journal then. You know, keeping a journal is - you know, you get to see yourself, how you are evolving as a human.

And I remember having a ceremony in my head for that woman. I look back at that time and I hold no remorse or bitterness towards that person even though I was like, "You didn`t call me. And you don`t love me and I can`t believe -" and I still have all those crazy letters. I should burn them.

HAMMER: And she told you that she hasn`t burned them. She still has them locked up somewhere in a safe deposit box.

MORGAN: I wanted to get (INAUDIBLE).

HAMMER: And you`re trying to get - yes. You and the world right about now, Piers. But I got the sense that Oprah felt relieved that she was sharing that with you and, therefore, the world.

MORGAN: Yes. It was a fun moment in the interview, really, in many ways. In a sense, I just throw out there, "Have you had your heartbroken?" You are never quite sure what that question will get back.

And she began to tell the story of two guys. And she then emphasized one of them in particular who broke her heart. I said, "Well, name them." She`s like, "I`m not going to name them."

HAMMER: Yes.

MORGAN: They`re going to pop up on TV. They`ll say, "I broke Oprah`s heart," which I found very funny. Then she said she`s kept these letters and her own journals all in this deposit box.

And you`ve got to wonder what`s in them because for her to say, "If I died, Gayle has been told to destroy them."

HAMMER: Oh, yes.

MORGAN: What do they say?

HAMMER: Just knowing that they are still out there.

MORGAN: Yes.

HAMMER: All right. So big news that Oprah was your first guest, and you are also making big headlines today because of who you are banning from the show.

I would like to run down this list, if we could put up some of these names. Now, Heather Mills -

MORGAN: Yes.

HAMMER: Banned from your show. You introduced her to Paul McCartney, and you have said Paul told you, "Thanks, you cost me $50 million."

Also, you banned Howie Mandell who I adore. You say he winds you up every day on you other show, "America`s Got Talent."

MORGAN: So much is going on, on "America`s Got Talent."

HAMMER: All right. Fair enough. Then we have Madonna. What`s your beef with Madonna?

MORGAN: She just incredibly irritating, Madonna, on almost every level. I mean, it`s a series of crimes against music, against fashion. I just think everything about Madonna is ludicrous.

I mean, we have Lady Gaga, who, to me, is younger, better-looking, more talented, doesn`t go out with weird 20-year-olds - the whole thing.

HAMMER: OK.

MORGAN: That`s it. Sorry.

(CROSS TALK)

I`ve got these terrible opinions about people and about Madonna which can never be resolved. So I have to ban her. Mind you, if she gets on bended knee on your show and begs forgiveness of me on national television in America -

HAMMER: Yes. You`ll have her on?

MORGAN: I will consider it.

HAMMER: OK. So in other words, you won`t be having her on. I want to bring in Brooke Anderson. Brooke Anderson, Piers Morgan, I would like to connect the two of you right now. Brooke, out to you.

MORGAN: I have always wanted to be connected to Brooke Anderson.

ANDERSON: Hi, Piers. Yes. I don`t think we need to hold our breath for Madonna on bended knee like that. But I love your candor. I love you passionate opinions. And Piers - so I have a question for you and it`s about "American Idol," because it returns tomorrow night.

MORGAN: Yes.

ANDERSON: It`s got a new vibe, some new judges - Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez. How do you think J. Lo is going to do in his format?

MORGAN: I am excited to see her like everybody else. I have not heard any feedback from how it`s all been going, although Ryan Seacrest - that`s normal telling you how brilliant he is going to be.

But in terms of J. Lo and Steven Tyler, unknown quantities. During my experience on "America`s Got Talent," you know, someone can be very gifted in another capacity of entertainment, but not necessarily be a good judge.

And so it`s interesting to see if J. Lo and Steven Tyler have what it takes to be a judge as well as a performer. I mean, the bigger unanswered question is how much are they going to miss Simon Cowell?

My honest opinion is they`re going to miss him terribly. There is only one Simon Cowell. They`ve lost the dark master, so they`ve got everything to do, I think, on "American Idol."

ANDERSON: Yes. They`ve got some work to do. He is pretty irreplaceable.

HAMMER: I think Steven Tyler would be great. And I heard Steven doing a great interview for Howard Stern on Howard`s show. And of course, your big get for today`s show -

MORGAN: Is Howard.

HAMMER: Is the great Howard Stern.

MORGAN: Yes.

HAMMER: He really opens up to you especially about his hair and whether or not he dyes it. Let me take a look at that, please.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MORGAN: Is it real, the hair?

HOWARD STERN, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: The hair is real and I don`t color it. Don`t get too frisky.

MORGAN: (INAUDIBLE) I give it a good yank?

STERN: I have my own hair.

MORGAN: And you dye it?

STERN: I do not color it. As you can see, I have some gray in it, but no. I`m very blessed. I swear on a stack of bibles that I don`t color my hair.

MORGAN: Really?

STERN: Yes. Yes.

MORGAN: You`re 57, and you have a naturally pretty dark curly -

STERN: Yes.

MORGAN: A big bouffant.

STERN: Yes. I`m very lucky.

HAMMER: I have always been a huge Howard Stern fan. I have been listening to him since he first came to New York so many years ago. He`s called himself the king of all media. Do you see him as the king of all media?

MORGAN: Well, it`s certainly harder. I`m the king of all British media, so only one of us can win this little joust. He didn`t seem overly perturbed about my threat, but he is what you`d expect - outrageous, super- smart, very revealing in a way that will surprise people.

I found him completely compelling to interview for now. And you don`t see him do many interviews. So I was excited to get him. And the other excitement for me is we booked Ricky Gervais right before the Golden Globes.

HAMMER: That`s huge.

MORGAN: And we now have the only interview with the most hated man in America. So bring it on, Ricky.

HAMMER: All right. Well, let`s run down the lineup for this week. As we mentioned, Howard Stern on tonight`s show. Wednesday, Piers is one-on-one with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Thursday, that great interview - I can`t wait to see this - with Ricky Gervais, fresh off the outrageous Golden Globes hosting gig. Friday, it`s the great George Clooney. Piers, it`s a pleasure having you here and it`s really been fun getting to know you over the past couple of months.

MORGAN: Absolutely.

HAMMER: I`m looking forward to seeing around.

MORGAN: It`s great to be on the same team as you. And I just want to say one thing, Regis Philbin and I worked on the first series of -

HAMMER: That`s right.

MORGAN: "America`s Got Talent" and he`s a smashing guy. And I wish him all the best. I was really sad to hear he is retiring, but what a great career.

HAMMER: Class act all the way. Piers, great seeing you.

MORGAN: Thanks, A.J. Real pleasure.

ANDERSON: Thanks, Piers. Good to see you.

MORGAN: Thank you, Brooke.

ANDERSON: And speaking of Regis` shocking announcement, yes, Regis Philbin dropped a bombshell today that he`s leaving "Live with Regis and Kelly." So can the show survive without him?

HAMMER: Big star hair news today. I can`t wait. You remember Jennifer Aniston`s Rachel haircut, right, during the "Friends" days? You`ve got to hear what Jen is saying about that hairdo now.

And there`s a startling controversy today over Sandra Bullock`s bangs.

Also this -

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NICOLE "SNOOKI" POLIZZI, REALITY TV STAR, "JERSEY SHORE": I was (EXPLETIVE DELETED) good for a sec.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: (INAUDIBLE), protect that girl.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: For the first time today, the explosive video of Snooki`s arrest when she was a totally sloshed mess at the "Jersey Shore." This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views.

HAMMER: Time for the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - here come more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

TEXT: Ricky Gervais says he will not host the Golden Globe Awards again. Lindsay Lohan`s dad says she has passed every drug test since leaving rehab.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

RICKY GERVAIS, COMEDIAN: Talking of the walking dead, congratulations to Hugh Hefner who is getting married at the age of 84 to 24-year-old beauty, Crystal Harris.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Hugh Hefner was one of the many stars on Ricky Gervais` hit list at the Golden Globes. But today, Hef doesn`t seem all that ticked off by Ricky`s joke about him.

Hef tweets, "The Golden Globes was a blast. They made fun of everyone including Crystal and me. A great night. I`m used to cheap shots. It goes with the territory. It`s ironic that living with three young girls prompted a hit TV show and marrying one prompts humor."

That`s, of course, referring to "The Girls Next Door" series which ran on E!

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. A.J. Hammer in New York.

A.J., I still cannot get over the fact that Hugh Hefner is engaged to a 24- year-old. .

HAMMER: Yes. You mentioned that before, Brooke. I actually have someone here who agrees with you. The 84-year-old "Playboy" founder just got engaged to one-time "Playboy" playmate, Crystal Harris.

And now, his ex, Holly Madison, is making big news with her reaction to the engagement. Holly is our SHOWBIZ newsmaker today. It`s nice to have you here.

Your new show is called "Holly`s World." It`s making its premiere this Sunday night on E! I know you`re very excited about that. I also know that you`re not very excited about Hef`s new fiancee. Why is that?

HOLLY MADISON, "HOLLY`S WORLD": I really don`t know Crystal that well. I just - it`s not that I`m not excited about it. I just hope he`s making the right choice.

HAMMER: Why wouldn`t he be?

MADISON: Because he wasn`t happy being married before. And I just - you know, they have only known each other for two years. And somebody in his position - I`ve seen so many girls trying to date him who maybe have the wrong intentions. Two years isn`t a very long time.

HAMMER: So you`re saying - number one, a gold-digging opportunity is what they may be seeing in him.

MADISON: It could be. I mean, I`m not accusing her. I don`t know her. I just think two years is not a very long time to get to know somebody.

HAMMER: She is 24.

MADISON: Yes.

HAMMER: You think she`s too young?

MADISON: Possibly. I think a woman in her 30s knows what she wants a lot more (INAUDIBLE).

(CROSS TALK)

HAMMER: How old were you when you were dating.

MADISON: I started at 21.

HAMMER: OK.

MADISON: You know, I really thought I wanted to settle down, but, I mean, I`m doing so much now that I can`t imagine not doing. So there is a case and point right there.

HAMMER: You`ve been pretty vocal about the fact that, hey, you are not thrilled with the idea of him hooking up with her. And there those people - look, you go online. You read the same blogs that I do. Some people are saying, hey, this is sour grapes because it`s her and not you. What do you say to that?

MADISON: Well, I just want Hef to be happy and I want him to settle down with the right person. She could be the right person - I don`t know. I`m just saying I`m going to keep my eye on them. And I`m going to kick her butt if she doesn`t take good care of him.

HAMMER: You`re really going to kick her butt.

MADISON: Yes.

HAMMER: You will actually, physically do that?

MADISON: I can make a physical threat. No -

(CROSS TALK)

HAMMER: I have invited a (INAUDIBLE) lawyers here that might have an issue with that.

MADISON: I don`t want a Snooki situation in my hands.

HAMMER: OK. But is that something at least you`d potentially film for your reality show?

MADISON: Oh, the cameras would never miss that.

HAMMER: So apart from "Holly`s World," you are doing this Vegas show that`s called "Peep Show." Now, as I see it, what`s been given to me, there were producers that actually wanted you, of all people, to lose weight. I`m sorry. I`m having a hard time understanding this. Is that true?

MADISON: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. But I`m just concentrating more on other things. I`d really love to be in the show more. And I have been taking singing lessons for the past six months.

And there are other things I want to do in the show. And other dancers are much thinner than me. When they switched off (INAUDIBLE) from Broadway to open the show in Vegas. They were a little bigger than the girls we replaced them with when they left the local girls from Vegas for whatever reason. They are much thinner than me. They are very thin. They`re very muscular.

HAMMER: Were you pretty outraged there when somebody comes up and say, "Hey, you need to lose some weight"?

MADISON: Yes, I was surprised. Yes, I was surprised. I think every woman or every person feels like their stomach could be a little bit flatter or they could have a little less cellulite. Everybody feels that way.

(CROSS TALK)

Yes, when I thought someone else noticed it, I was like, really? Well, it`s just - I mean, I am trying to be healthy. I`m trying to get in shape.

HAMMER: OK. I think you are doing just fine. I do have to get your take on some big beauty bombshells today. There a lot to talk about with Jennifer Aniston`s startling revelations today about that oh-so-famous "Friends" Rachel haircut.

And were Sandra Bullock`s Golden Globes bangs beautiful or a big bust? I want you to stay right here. We will come back to you in just a little bit.

In the meantime, I`m looking forward to watching the premier of "Holly`s World" this Sunday on E!

ANDERSON: All right. Jennifer Lopez already has a couple of kids. And today, she is revealing whether she wants more, just as we get our first look at her brand-new music video.

(MUSIC)

ANDERSON: J. Lo looks great, no doubt. But do we love or hate J. Lo`s new music video? Coming up.

HAMMER: Charlie Sheen`s estranged wife, Brooke Mueller, the one he allegedly attacked with a knife - are they getting back together? Really? Outrageous reports today.

ANDERSON: And Justin Bieber, stay away from all cats because they do not seem to like you. It is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "did you see this?" This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views.

HAMMER: This is the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: What are you doing?

UNIDENTIFIED ACTRESS: Get out!

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: You can`t sit there. Get out! That is not a chair. That is St. Edward`s chair.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: People will carve their names on it.

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Listen to me!

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Listen to you? By what right?

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Because I have a right. I have a voice!

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BETTY WHITE, ACTRESS AND COMEDIAN: One single snow flake alone is so delicate and so fragile. And yet there are a billion of them coming together to the majestic force of nature. They can screw up a whole city.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: She looked great. Betty White was fantastic as the kooky Sue Ann Nivens on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." It has been more than 30 years since the show, which took place in Minneapolis has been off the air.

But I can tell you Mary and Betty are reuniting in Cleveland and we`ve got your first look today. A.J., "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was really fantastic, a classic.

HAMMER: Yes, it was, Brooke. The entire cast, Mary, Betty and Ed were all so good together.

ANDERSON: Yes. And on Wednesday, Mary Tyler Moore will guest star on the season two premiere of Betty`s TV Land show, "Hot in Cleveland." This morning, on "Good Morning America," they showed a clip of the reunion. Take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WHITE: I need fresh meat.

MARY TYLER MOORE, ACTRESS: Pipe down.

WHITE: What`s with the big M?

MOORE: Stands for murder.

WHITE: Is that what in for?

MOORE: No, it`s what I have been thinking about ever since you started playing that harmonica.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Mary and Betty are in jail. Find out if they`re going to make it out after all this Wednesday on TV Land.

HAMMER: All right, Brooke. Apparently, Justin Bieber is not hot in cat land. Did you see this? A cat just going nuts when he sees a picture of the Bieb. You`ve got to watch this meow madness.

(CAT GROWLING)

HAMMER: I don`t know. Maybe the cat thought Bieber`s hair looked like a mouth or something.

ANDERSON: You know, that is a real possibility, A.J. That was some real fur fury there by that cat. And you know, A.J., this is not the first time that a cat clawed at him the Bieb. Roll that clip, Charles.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Look, it`s Justin Bieber.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: I don`t know what it is. OK. If anyone else`s pet has lost it looking at Justin Bieber, please send me that video.

HAMMER: All right. Time now for the SHOWBIZ lineup - here`s what`s coming up at the bottom of the hour on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

Regis` shocking announcement. Regis Philbin dropping a bombshell today he is leaving "Live with Regis and Kelly."

The Jennifer Aniston-Sandra Bullock hair showdown today. Jen`s unbelievable revelation about comments about her oh-so-90s Rachel `do. And a brand-new controversy today over Bullock`s Golden Globes bangs.

For the very first time today, we are seeing video of Snooki`s drunken arrest.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We are getting our bathing suits. Come on, Nicole. Really?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Fun at the "Jersey Shore." This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PHILBIN: I don`t want to alarm anybody, but I have to tell you this because it`s going to happen and the station needs to know and Gelman needs to know and we all need to know. But this will be my last year on this show.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Big news breaking on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT - Regis Philbin`s shocking announcement today. He is leaving "Live with Regis and Kelly." SHOWBIZ TONIGHT dares to ask, can the show survive without Regis?

(MUSIC)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer coming to you from New York City.

ANDERSON: And I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today - Regis retires?

HAMMER: Yes, Brooke. Jaws dropped in living rooms around the nation today after Regis Philbin announced seemingly out of the blue, he`s leaving "Live with Regis and Kelly."

All right. Come on, Reg. Say it isn`t so, please. Or I`ll continue to do that bad impression. Well, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has to dig into that stunning story to find out the real deal behind what led to Regis` stunning decision and how he apparently kept this a secret even from those closest to him.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice-over) It was a shocking and unexpected announcement today.

PHILBIN: This will be my last year on this show.

HAMMER: The gasp in the audience tells the whole story. No one was ready for the almost 80-year-old TV legend to announce he`s leaving his job of 28 years as one of America`s most beloved morning talk show hosts

KEN BAKER, CHIEF NEWS CORRESPONDENT, E!: People were definitely disappointed. I think he is still as popular as ever. And this is obviously a very personal decision. No one is forcing him out or pushing him out. It`s certainly not because of the ratings.

PHILBIN: All the fun we`ve had and all the great co-hosts and to look at this every morning.

HAMMER: And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, Regis` co-host, Kelly Ripa, was almost in tears after the sudden announcement this morning.

KELLY RIPA, CO-HOST, "LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY": I think I can only speak for America and all of us here when I say it has been a pleasure and a privilege and a dream come true. And I wish I could do something to make you change your mind.

PHILBIN: Wait a minute -

RIPA: Now, wait a second.

HAMMER: TMZ reports today that Kelly didn`t even know Regis was going to leave until 15 minutes before the show.

KATHIE LEE GIFFORD, REGIS PHILBIN`S FORMER CO-HOST: It was a surprise to, I think, almost everybody.

HAMMER: But Regis` former co-host of 15 years, Kathie Lee Gifford, revealed today on NBC`s "Today" show, she knew Regis was planning on leaving.

GIFFORD: We had dinner I guess about a year ago. And I said, "When do you think, Reg?" And he said, "I think at the end of this contract."

HAMMER: It`s also the end of an era. Regis holds the "Guinness Book of World Records" title for the most time spent in front of a TV camera. Over the years, there have been many memorable moments.

BAKER: Regis, really, in a lot of ways, is a throwback to a previous era.

PHILBIN: (INAUDIBLE) a real hip show.

HAMMER: Regis began his career back in the `60s as a sidekick to Joey Bishop.

PHILBIN: You`re so flap out.

JOEY BISHOP, HOST, "JOEY BISHOP SHOW": What do you mean flap out?

PHILBIN: Look at this. It`s not right. This is nationwide television.

HAMMER: But it wasn`t until 1975 that he got his own gig hosting the local morning show in Los Angeles called "AM Los Angeles."

PHILBIN: All of that, Monday, at 9:00 here on AM Los Angeles.

HAMMER: In 1988, Regis or Reg, as he`s lovingly called, became a household name when "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" went into syndication.

PHILBIN: Bon jour to you.

GIFFORD: Bon jour back at you.

PHILBIN: Yes. Yes. Oui, oui, too.

GIFFORD: (INAUDIBLE). But Reg, maybe they missed us. Maybe.

BAKER: It wasn`t until very late into his career actually after he was 60 years that he really broke out. And that`s why we seeing him at almost 80 years old really at his height.

PHILBIN: Hello.

RIPA: Hello.

PHILBIN: Hi. Regis and Kelly here. Alma? Is your name Alma?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My name is Alice Louise.

PHILBIN: And then, the third daughter broke her leg? I mean, it never ends at your place.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What? No.

(CROSS TALK)

RIPA: She got a big break.

PHILBIN: What was that?

AUDIENCE: Regis! Regis! Regis!

HAMMER: But Regis says, today, it`s time to hang up his hat.

PHILBIN: There is a time that, you know, everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people.

HAMMER: Today, he tweeted to loyal fans, he may be old, but he`s not dead, "It`s not like dying. I`m just retiring for the show. By the way, do you have a job for me?" And today, that`s the million dollar question. Is Regis retiring for good? Is this his final answer?

BAKER: I wouldn`t be surprised if Regis becomes sort of the Bret Favre of television in terms of retirement. He will retire and then he`ll come back.

GIFFORD: I don`t think he will retire ever.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He is one of those guys who you think would work forever.

GIFFORD: He will. He will.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: Oh, yes. He is a show man through and through. But it is hard to believe that the day has come when Regis is saying goodbye to morning television. I think I can speak for a lot of people today when I say I was just shocked by this.

I want to bring in syndicated radio host, Carlos Diaz. Carlos, my friend, I`ve got to tell you, I also just figured Reg would just do the show forever. Were you as stunned as I was?

CARLOS DIAZ, SYNDICATED RADIO HOST: Yes. He`s pushing 80, by the way, so let`s get that point out there. He is so full of energy. He has been on TV, A.J., longer than you and I have been alive - well, at least longer than I have been alive.

HAMMER: Hey, hey, hey.

DIAZ: I mean - no. But what I`m saying is. He is - the show is Regis, you know.

HAMMER: Yes.

DIAZ: And it`s going to be very interesting to see what happens moving forward. But you know, I tell you, you`ve met him a hundred times.

You know, I`ve met him. We both interviewed him. Not a classier guy in the planet and I think somebody that, as a broadcaster, you have to look up to.

HAMMER: Yes. You have to respect him. A standup guy. And pipe down out there, Anderson. I hear you. I can tell you that when Regis broke the news first thing this morning at "Live with Regis and Kelly" that he was retiring from the show, he was a little mysterious about when he would be leaving. He didn`t give an exact date. Watch this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PHILBIN: This will be my last year on this show. This is going to happen at the end of the summer, into the fall, whenever it is. We don`t know that yet. But just so that you know, OK? But we`ll have a lot of fun between now and then. Come on.

RIPA: I think I can only speak for America and all of us here when I say it has been a pleasure and a privilege and a dream come true. And I wish I could do something to make you change your mind.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Of course, everybody is now wondering who could replace Regis or is the show done? Well, ABC today told SHOWBIZ TONIGHT the show will go on. They`re actually going to be announcing a new co-host, they tell us, within a few months. That leads to our SHOWBIZ Flashpoint - can the show go on without Regis?

I want to bring in entertainment journalist, Jill Dobson. What do you think, Jill? I adore Kelly and I think the show will be great and just different. But do you think there`s a possibility it can`t go on?

JILL DOBSON, ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALIST: I think it will go on and it will do better than ever. Regis is an amazing talent. We all love Regis. But many people have been saying for a while that Kelly is the heart of the show.

"New York Magazine" today reporting for some time, Ripa has admirably carried the weight of the show. And a lot of people say she`s the one that keeps it moving. She`s gets it back on track.

(CROSS TALK)

HAMMER: That`s true as a traffic cop. And a great personality. A wonderful warm personality. But he, to me, is the soul of the show and his long, silly, rambling stories are just - I don`t know. I find them very enjoyable to watch. Carlos, do you think the show can go on?

DIAZ: It`s going to be different. I think the "A.J. and Kelly Show" will be - you have to get used to it. By the way, will it be somebody and Kelly or will it be Kelly and somebody?

ANDERSON: Kelly first.

DIAZ: Yes. She`s got to get top billing. Kelly`s got to get top billing now. But the show will go on. There`s a lot of talent and people working on the show. It will just be different. But you know what? We`re going to lose Regis and Oprah in the same summer. That is terrible.

HAMMER: Yes. Well, and we lost Larry King - three icons in one year.

DIAZ: Yes.

HAMMER: We do have to get to more news that`s breaking today, by the way. Brooke Anderson, could Charlie Sheen really be getting together his wife, Brooke Mueller?

ANDERSON: Well, I`ve got to tell you, A.J., it sounds outrageous. But yes, potentially, because Brooke Mueller`s mother tells the "Palm Beach Post" that Brooke may call off her pending divorce from Charlie despite the fact that Charlie pleaded guilty to assaulting her, despite his recent reported porn star romp.

So Carlos, does it all seem ludicrous to you that this could happen potentially?

DIAZ: I have a feeling CBS, the executives at CBS, are like, "Let`s get these kids back together." Because, you know, they want their star to stop having, you know, these rants, you know, in Vegas.

You know what? Stranger circle backs have happened. You know, every couple - no matter how much money you have, you always think about the good times. You think about, you know, the positives in the relationship.

ANDERSON: Yes. And when I first heard, I was shocked. But then, I thought, not really, because when I interviewed them when they were happily together, she seemed head-over-heels, totally in love.

DIAZ: and they have kids together, you know. So yes -

ANDERSON: They do have kids together. We`ll see what happens. Carlos Diaz, Jill Dobson, thank you both.

HAMMER: Well, for the very first time, it`s the dramatic new video of Snooki. Yes, she`s drunk and under arrest.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We are getting our bathing suits. We are getting our bathing suits. Come on, Nicole. Really?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: This is your SHOWBIZ first look. I think this is really sad, actually, but I wonder if Snooki even cares.

ANDERSON: Oh, I doubt it. And oh, no, she didn`t. Jennifer Aniston`s stunning revelations today about her famous "Friends" haircut. Remember the Rachel? And Sandra Bullock`s Golden Globes bangs. Love them or hate them?

HAMMER: And J. Lo reveals if she wants more kids on the very same day her new music video is out.

(MUSIC)

This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views. Time now for the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

TEXT: Fmr. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he may return to making movies. Britney Spears` "Hold It Against Me" sets record for most plays on Billboard chart.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

POLIZZI: Get the (EXPLETIVE DELETED) off! Get off!

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Where is she going?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She`s drunk and disorderly and causing a scene. You see that. She`ll be placed under arrest.

POLIZZI: I`m a (EXPLETIVE DELETED) good person.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Oh, boy. Snooki`s arrest caught on tape. Snooki made a scene at the beach last summer and her arrest for disorderly conduct was, of course, caught on tape for all to see on last night`s "Jersey Shore." But was it good TV or just a sad reality?

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with A.J. Hammer in New York. And A.J., we already knew this, but now, it is official. Snooki is a mess.

HAMMER: Yes. But she`s a good person, at least so she says, Brooke. The phrase "party`s here" certainly has a whole new meaning after this explosive new episode of "Jersey Shore" showed Snooki`s big arrest drama.

Snooki and her slippers were hauled off to police headquarters after she made a drunken mess of herself at, where else, the Jersey shore. But I`ve got to wonder if Snooki saw this as anything more than just another day at the office.

I want to bring in reality show star, Holly Madison, whose show, "Holly`s World" premiers this Sunday on "E!" Holly, to me, this is just sad. But that aside, do you think it is just good reality TV?

MADISON: Well, you know, I`ve been on reality shows the last five years. And I feel like when the cameras are rolling, you do have a little bit more of a feeling that anything can go.

And people at home need to remember, you know, not everybody can get away with the Snooki stuff. Not everybody doing that kind of thing is going to be - that`s not going to make them a star.

It`s not - you know, there`s something about Snooki that is one in a million. She`s lovable. She reminds me of a little young version of a Golden Girl or something.

HAMMER: But when I see this on TV, I`m wondering, is Snooki seeing this as a wake-up call, "Look at the drunken mess that I am"? Or is she thinking no big deal? What do you think?

MADISON: She`s probably embarrassed, I mean, just from the reactions I`ve had in my -

HAMMER: I hope so.

MADISON: She`s probably like, oh, no!

HAMMER: Hopefully, so she can learn from it. Snooki had her day in court. I just hope she now gets how pathetic all this looks.

But right now, I`ve got to get to more big news breaking today. Jennifer Aniston revealing why she thinks TV show, "Friends," made her look ugly.

Is "Mad Men`s" John Hamm the new Superman? Nicole Kidman`s big baby bombshell revealed to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s all making big news in "The Buzz Today."

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): Nicole and Keith`s baby secret. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban just dropped a big baby bombshell telling SHOWBIZ TONIGHT they welcomed a new baby girl via gestational surrogate last month.

Daughter Faith Margaret Kidman Urban was born December 28 in Nashville. The happy couple tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, "Our family is truly blessed and just so thankful to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who were so supportive throughout this process, in particular, our gestational carrier." Kidman and Urban also have a two-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose.

Don Draper too old for Superman? "Mad Men" star John Hamm is shutting down Superman reports in a single bound. Hamm just told MTV that a starring role in the next Superman flick isn`t for him.

JOHN HAMM, ACTOR: I think that`s a young man`s game. I think I have aged out of that one by now. But that`s fine with me. There plenty of other people available to put on tights.

ANDERSON: Jen hated the Rachel? Jennifer Aniston is revealing she was not a fan of the Rachel hairdo that caused a frenzy on "Friends."

In the February issue of "Allure" magazine, Aniston reveals, "I love Chris and he`s the bane of my existence at the same time because he started that damn Rachel which was not my best look. How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I have ever seen."

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Really, the ugliest? She did not love the Rachel? I`ve got to bring in Gwen Flamberg, beauty and lifestyle director at "Us Weekly."

Gwen, we all know the Rachel was a huge phenomenon. It really sparked Jennifer Aniston as a sensation. So should she be trashing the tresses that helped make her so famous?

GWEN FLAMBERG, BEAUTY AND LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR, "US WEEKLY": Well, Brooke, you know, it`s a little bit like biting the hand that feeds you, because, yes, that haircut is what made every girl in America want to look like Rachel, look like Jennifer Aniston and, in turn, make her a super famous star.

But you know, I think that part of Jennifer Aniston shtick is being self- deprecating and this is just a part of that. She is BFF with her hairstylist, Kirk McMillan, to this day.

You know, have you seen pictures of Jennifer Aniston in a bikini lately? Who really cares about who her hair looked like in the 1990s?

ANDERSON: And honestly, do any of us like our hairstyles from 10 years ago?

FLAMBERG: Good point.

ANDERSON: At least, the Rachel was better than that claw a lot of people were wearing.

(CROSS TALK)

OK. I do have to move - yes. I do have to move to more love lost on some famous locks - Sandra Bullock`s big bang theory on the Golden Globes red carpet. She debuted a whole new hairdo.

But some critics say it was a hair don`t. I think she looked pretty. Maybe the bangs were a little bit heavy, but it could be a trend, who knows?

Holly, I will bring you in here. What do you think? Were Bullock`s bangs a big bust?

MADISON: They look a little long on her. I`m wondering if she can see out of them. But I think it`s a cute look for her. Maybe a little shorter on the bangs.

ANDERSON: Maybe. And Gwen, quickly, yes or no on the bangs?

FLAMBERG: You know, I think that she is a beautiful woman. She clearly wanted to hide behind something and she used her hair. Bangs were a huge trend at the Globes. I think we`re going to see more of that.

ANDERSON: They were. Gwen Flamberg, Holly Madison, thanks, ladies.

HAMMER: As we move on, making news today, so much J. Lo news, I can barely keep up. Jennifer Lopez has two kids. So does she want more? What she just revealed about that on the very same day her brand-new music video is out. It`s your SHOWBIZ first look.

(MUSIC)

Love it or hate it? Time now for the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

TEXT: Lady Gaga to preview her new album at Thierry Mugler`s Paris fashion show. Ashton Kutcher: He and Demi Moore were more than friends right from the start.

"American Idol" is back. New season. New judges. It all kicks off Wednesday.

And the season finale of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" could get explosive. We can`t wait. You are watching SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: (INAUDIBLE) how to behave. I don`t know if she`s just trying to get under my skin or that`s her attempt at a sense of humor. I have not seen that. But clearly, she has not read this book.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Now, your SHOWBIZ first look. It is Sir Elton`s little knight in cool onesie. Proud papas Elton and partner David Furnish show off their brand-new baby boy, Zachary, on the cover of the issue of "Us Weekly."

And boy, does this baby have quite the name - Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish John was born Christmas Day by a surrogate. Elton tells "Us Weekly" he will never forget the experience of holding Zachary for the very first time.

Read more about Elton and David`s baby joy in the new issue of "Us Weekly" on newsstands Wednesday.

And in more big baby news, A.J., are there more kids in J. Lo`s future?

HAMMER: Well, Brooke, we know Jennifer Lopez has a bunch of kids already. And she`s on "Ellen" today to set the record straight on that.

She and her husband, Marc Anthony, are the proud parents of three-year-old twins, Max and Emmy. But people are wondering, could there be another chip-off-the-old-block from Jenny from the block? Well, check out what J. Lo just told Ellen about that.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ELLEN DEGENERES, HOST, "THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW": Are you done, or you think you`re going to have more kids? Or -

JENNIFER LOPEZ, SINGER AND ACTRESS: I don`t know. I don`t know. I`d like to - you know, as soon as I had the babies, I thought to myself, oh, my god. I want to do this a thousand more times. I love this. This is life.

DEGENERES: A thousand? That`s a lot.

LOPEZ: Yes. Yes. You know, it would be a first. You know, but - you know, I just thought it was something that I felt so great. This is what life is all about. And now that it`s like three years in, can I do that again?

DEGENERES: Right.

LOPEZ: You know, it`s funny. Yes, if I got pregnant, I would be extremely happy.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: After J. Lo -

ANDERSON: But A.J., wait. There is more J. Lo news as well.

HAMMER: I`m sorry, Brooke. I`m thinking she`s going to be the new octomom. Right now, we`ve got your very first look at J. Lo`s brand-new music video.

ANDERSON: Yes. Are you ready for this? It`s J. Lo`s "Good Hit."

(MUSIC)

ANDERSON: A.J., I like it. I think her "Good Hit" is hot. Looks like she`s still got it. She`s busting a move. But the video is interesting, isn`t it?

HAMMER: Yes. It`s very interesting. And quite frankly, I don`t know how J. Lo and all those dancers walk away from a shoot like that without holding their necks. I mean, that`s got to hurt, whipping your head around like that. I`d be puffing out (INAUDIBLE).

ANDERSON: It`s an acquired skill, I`m sure.

(CROSS TALK)

HAMMER: Well, good for them. That is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. We thank you for watching. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: And I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is live at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Monday through Friday.

HAMMER: And we are still TV`s most provocative entertainment news show seven days a week at 11:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific here on HLN.
