Aired February 23, 2011 - 23:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

A.J. HAMMER, HOST: Big news breaking today on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

Did Lindsay dodge jail again? Explosive developments today as Lindsay goes back to court for a brand new showdown.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was right there.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: If you plead in front of me, you are going to jail.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: The "Showbiz Flashpoint." Is jail the only thing that will set Lindsay straight?

BROOKE ANDERSON, HOST: Let`s play the Billy Ray family feud. Billy Ray Cyrus`s startling new revelations today about Miley and him. Can he possibly repair the damage caused by saying "Hannah Montana" destroyed their family?

HAMMER: Justin Bieber goes public today with his controversial new do. For the very first time since shocking the world by cutting his hair.

ANDERSON: Superstars, supermoms. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT reveals the amazing secrets of Oscar nominees who are managing the mayhem of motherhood.

HAMMER: TV`s most provocative entertainment news show --

ANDERSON: Breaks news right now.

HAMMER: Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer coming to you from New York City.

ANDERSON: Hi there, everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today.

No way out for Lindsay Lohan? Lindsay may soon want to go shopping for some designer toothbrushes that she`d feel comfortable using in jail because if things don`t go her way really soon, it`s going to be lights out for Lindsay behind bars. Lindsay was back in court today.

Wait, hmm, Lindsay back in court. How many times have we said that? We`re starting to lose track. But what was really different this time is that the judge made it perfectly clear that Lindsay could be running out of options unless she`s got iron-clad proof that she did not lift an expensive necklace from a jewelry store.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This case does involve jail time, period. If you plead in front of me, this case is resolved in front of me, you are going to jail. Period.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Let`s get right to Jane Velez-Mitchell, the host of "ISSUES WITH JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL," weeknights 7:00 p.m. Eastern here on HLN. She`s also the author of this fascinating new book, "Addict Nation."

Jane, the judge is making it clear Lindsay has two choices here, cop a plea deal and get some jail time or go to trial and roll the dice. She did not cut a plea deal today and that`s understandable because her defense attorney was just given the evidence, just given all the police reports, the store surveillance video. But was it a big mistake not to find a compromise, a plea deal today?

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, HOST, HLN`S "ISSUES WITH JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL: The way I see it, Brooke, she`s taking a huge, huge gamble. Because if she had copped a plea and cut a deal, she could end up back in the county deal with that friendly sheriff who always says, oh, it`s overcrowded, we`re going to let her out after a couple of weeks.

But if she goes to trial, if she gets convicted of a felony, she could end up in state prison where they don`t let you out because of overcrowding so easily so she could be doing some hard time up to a year.

I think she`s playing with fire here. And one of the reasons she doesn`t take this seriously is she`s heard all these empty threats so many times so she doesn`t believe it anymore. But this time it may really be the real deal.

ANDERSON: It could be, you`re right, Jane, up to a year if it`s reduced to a misdemeanor, up to three years if it remains a felony. Tack on top of that six more months for a probation violation, potentially. We are talking hard, hard time here.

She was in court today facing a probation violation from her drunk driving conviction, all connected to this felony charge for allegedly stealing an expensive necklace from a jewelry store.

A lot of people thought, hey, this could be the day that she was going to be hauled off to jail. That wasn`t the case. But the judge warned Lindsay today that her days of freedom could be numbered, especially in his courtroom. Watch.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Well, I`m just going to tell you a couple of the things if the case settles in this court will happen. Number one, this case does involve jail time, period. If you plead in front of me, this case is resolved in front of me, you are going to jail, period.

Now there may be an issue as to the amount of time that you go to, of course, and that`s why a judge has discretion in sentencing. But if the case settles here, I don`t want you under any apprehension, you will be going to jail, period.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Pretty black and white. Clearly this judge wants Lindsay in jail no matter what.

Sunny Hostin, legal contributor for "In Session" on truTV. You listen to him today like we all did. He said three times she`s going to jail in his court. Do you think that that is how this is going to wind up?

SUNNY HOSTIN, LEGAL CONTRIBUTOR, "IN SESSION" ON TRUTV: If she takes a plea in front of him, there`s no question. This would be a plea, an open plea, a plea straight up to what -- you know, to a theft charge, a grand theft charge. That exposes her to up to three years in prison.

It is a felony. And so this judge wanted to make it clear, if you plead guilty to that, straight up to this charge, you are going to jail.

I will say he also interestingly said I don`t think you`re going to take the prosecution`s plea offer but you would perhaps take a plea in front of me. That means that the prosecution`s plea offer also entails jail.

So any plea in this case, Brooke, means jail time for Lindsay Lohan. It`s not a question of whether or not she goes --

ANDERSON: Behind bars.

HOSTIN: Just how long she goes.

ANDERSON: How long she`ll be there. Well, whether or not she does eventually end up in jail, all depends on this plea deal. If she accepts or if she decides to go to trial. The judge gave her some time to decide, some time to -- some time to strategize with her attorney but I think it would be an enormous risk if she does not cop a plea because the deals usually don`t get better down the road.

Jane, do you think she will eventually give in, do some time, or does that seem inconceivable to us because she hasn`t made the best decisions going forward so far?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I`m trying to get inside her head, Brooke. There she is sitting in court looking at that judge. And you know what I think she`s thinking, I`m thinking, she`s thinking, I`ve heard it all before.

ANDERSON: Yes.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: This is I think at least her third judge she`s been before. They all yell at her, they all get stern. And how much time does she actually go to jail? She did 84 minutes one time and then she was sentenced to 90, 90, 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab.

She did less than two weeks in jail and only 23 days in rehab. So I think she doesn`t take this very seriously because she`s been threatened before.

HOSTIN: That`s right.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And they never really smack the gavel over her and gave her hard time. But she could be in for a shocker this time around.

ANDERSON: Yes. I think this judge is going to follow through and he was stern, like you say. But I think he was very fair in his comments to Lindsay today. And what really stood out to me the most was, you know, he was very strong, almost fatherly in his tone when he addressed Lindsay and her future.

Listen to what he said he would do if he rules on her case. Watch.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I want you to get on with your life, I want you to reach whatever potential you have, and move on and quit causing yourself, your family and anyone else around you additional stress which is unnecessary.

You`re going to be ordered potentially to see a therapist on a regular basis. You need to get a reliable, trustworthy and reasonable sponsor unrelated to any of your family members that will help you stay away from substance abuse issues, that will help you stay away from alcohol issues, and will help you get your life back on track.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: He wants therapy, a non-family member as a sponsor and jail time. I definitely think therapy, that non-relative sponsor, fantastic ideas. If she is guilty of stealing, throw her in jail, too.

Sunny, has the judge cracked the code on how to finally set her straight? Are you optimistic?

HOSTIN: I am optimistic. I mean this is the same judge that reined Conrad Murray, and told Conrad Murray you are not going to anesthetize anyone. No Propofol for you. This is a no-nonsense judge. He`s known for being very fair. That`s his reputation.

And so I think he has it right. He`s telling her you`re going to jail but as a condition of probation, I`m going to try to make sure that you`re not a repeat customer to this system and I`m going to try to make sure that you are scared straight and that everything at the end of the day is going to be OK.

He`s got the right prescription. The question is will the patient take the medicine.

ANDERSON: Good point, yes, he said he does not want her to be a repeat offender and he wants her to be a productive citizen and be able to live her life.

Sunny Hostin, Jane Velez-Mitchell, thanks, ladies.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Thank you.

HAMMER: All right, as we move on, let`s play the Billy Ray family feud.

Billy Ray Cyrus` startling new revelations today about him and Miley. So can he possibly repair the damage caused by saying "Hannah Montana" destroyed their family?

ANDERSON: David Arquette`s stunning rehab confessions to Oprah revealed today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OPRAH WINFREY, TV HOST: Who was there for you for the intervention?

DAVID ARQUETTE, ACTOR: OK, so I was in -- I came back from Miami and I`d taken a nap and I woke up and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed and Courteney had a cup of coffee, and I was like, what are you two doing here together?

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: You got to hear how David opens up to Oprah. We`ve got your SHOWBIZ first look coming up.

HAMMER: George Clooney for president? The shocking revelation straight from George himself. But will he run?

This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN, news and views.

Time for the "Showbiz News Ticker," more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

GRAPHICS: Katy Perry denies feud with Britney Spears via Twitter.

GRAPHICS: Kelly Osbourne debuts as the new face of Madonna and Lourdes` clothes.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: And we are so psyched for Sunday. It`s the "Showbiz Road to Gold." We`re going to have two shows packed with all-star contributors, including "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Camille Grammer. She`ll be our fashion and celebrity commentator.

And we`ve also got acclaimed actress Sheryl Lee Ralph joining us plus syndicated radio host Carlos Diaz. I can`t wait.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Brooke Anderson is in Hollywood.

ANDERSON: Yes, it`s going to be a big night. We`ve got the Oscars covered like no other entertainment news show, A.J., with not one but two live shows.

HAMMER: Yes, and Camille has told the both of us --

ANDERSON: But right now --

HAMMER: She is so pumped to be with us, Brooke. It`s going to be a lot of fun.

ANDERSON: And I`m sure she`s going to be ultra-glamorous and have a lot of great insights for us. I cannot wait.

But right now I`ve got more of the "Showbiz Road to Gold." Superstar, supermoms. We are revealing the amazing secrets of Oscar nominees who are managing blockbuster careers with the chaos of motherhood.

Just look at the Best Actress nominees. Four out of five are moms or moms- to-be. Natalie Portman, mom-to-be, Annette Benning, mom, Nicole Kidman, mom, Michelle Williams, mom.

So how do these major stars balance motherhood and the craziness of Hollywood? Watch.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): Annette. Nicole. Natalie. All together these three Oscar-nominated actresses have eight kids with another celebrity baby on the way. In fact 10 actresses up for individual Oscars this year, all but the two youngest are mothers.

Superstars and supermoms. How do these ladies simultaneously manage the pressure of the spotlight with the tug of responsibility on the home front?

Helena Bonham Carter, mom to two young kids says it isn`t easy.

HELENA BONHAM CARTER, ACTRESS: I haven`t seen my kids for 10 days now. The kids saying is the most difficult job in the world, but it`s the best.

ANDERSON: A new mom to infant daughter Aviana, Amy Adams says she`s learning to let go of perfection.

AMY ADAMS, ACTRESS: It doesn`t have to be perfect. Balance isn`t about having everything be perfect. It`s about accepting the chaos.

ANDERSON: The chaos of motherhood can be an asset to an actress.

Nicole Kidman who welcomed her second daughter with husband Keith Urban in the midst of award show season says being a mom helps her tap into the deep grief required for her Oscar nominated performance in "Rabbit Hole".

NICOLE KIDMAN, ACTRESS: I had the ability, I suppose, because I`m a mother to immediately jump what it would be like to losing a child. And the emotions were just available to me.

ANDERSON: Several of these superstar moms are nominated for roles portraying mothers, including Annette Benning in "The Kids are All Right." She`s a real-life mother to four.

ANNETTE BENNING, ACTRESS: We just want to be let in.

ANDERSON: Getting in to Oscar red carpet wear could pose a challenge to soon-to-be-mom Natalie Portman but she`s not surrendering her favorite footwear.

NATALIE PORTMAN, ACTRESS: And I`m not (INAUDIBLE), definitely wearing heels. Dior heels.

ANDERSON: A superstar mom in the making taking the red carpet in stride.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: She`s going to look beautiful on Oscar Sunday, I`m sure. And you know Camille Grammer is another one of those superstar supermoms. And she will be with us this Sunday when SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is the only entertainment news show live from the Oscars.

Camille, the star of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", will join A.J. and me as our fashion and celebrity commentator.

HAMMER: And you definitely do not want to miss two very special live editions of SHOWBIZ TONIGHT this Sunday. We`re going to be live from the red carpet on CNN, that starts at 7:00 p.m. and again on HLN at 11:00 p.m. Eastern with the very first star reactions. All that happening this Sunday, February 27th.

So, Brooke, can you picture Snooki from "Jersey Shore` as one of those supermoms?

ANDERSON: That`s an interesting question. Sure, why not? But I think she would need to cut out the drunken cat fights first.

HAMMER: You`ve got to put those aside. Now today I can tell you that the "Jersey Shore" star does want to settle down and be a mommy. Maybe not today but soon. Watch what Snooks told Regis and Kelly on "Live" today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KELLY RIPKA, HOST: Do you think you`ll get married? Do you picture that in your future? Do you ever talk about it?

SNOOKI POLIZZI, "JERSEY SHORE" Yes, but it`s like, you know, it`s too soon. I don`t want to, like, scare the guy, like, let`s get married. I mean --

REGIS PHILBIN, HOST: Yes, take it easy.

SNOOKI: Definitely I`m not ready to get married.

PHILBIN: That`s right.

POLIZZI: You know, I give it, like, four, five years.

RIPKA: Four, five years.

POLIZZI: Yes.

RIPKA: OK, that`s good.

POLIZZI: I want babies, geedio (ph) babies.

RIPKA: If your babies come out not tan, what will happen?

POLIZZI: I`ll spray them. I`m just kidding.

PHILBIN: You`re going to spray the poor little thing.

RIPKA: Just joking, she`s joking.

(CROSSTALK)

POLIZZI: They`ll be tan. They`ll be tan.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: I would just be afraid that she`d try to feed them from a beer bong or something. Now what if you mixed -- as Snooki calls them a geedio baby with Justin Bieber`s hair?

Well, the "Showbiz on Call" phone lines have been ringing non-stop about the Bieb`s shocking new do, Brooke.

ANDERSON: Yes, you`re right, A.J. Most of our callers are giving it two thumbs up like Cathy in Florida.

CATHY, CALLER FROM FLORIDA: Justin Bieber, his hair looks adorable. I`m 61, so it`s not like I`m a great fan but he`s growing. He`s looking like an adult.

ANDERSON: I agree. Thanks, Cathy.

HAMMER: And we heard from Annie in Iowa. Hair or no hair, she`s still got the Bieber fever.

ANNIE, CALLER FROM IOWA: I think he`s gorgeous, talented, and he could shave his head and it wouldn`t make any difference to me. People think his career is all his hair, it`s just ridiculous. He`s a wonderful young man, I wish him the best in his life and I love his new haircut.

HAMMER: Moving on now to big Jesse James news today. So what is Sandra Bullock`s no good, cheating ex-hubby up to? I`m telling you it`s going to make a lot of people mad.

ANDERSON: Justin Bieber goes public today with his controversial new do for the very first time since shocking the world by cutting his hair.

All right. Ellen likes it. What about everybody else today?

HAMMER: Super-duper royal wedding secrets revealed today. We just found out some really juicy things about Prince William and Kate Middleton`s wedding, including the surprising way Kate is going to show up.

This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN, news and views.

Now the "Showbiz News Ticker," more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

GRAPHICS: NBC renews, "The Biggest Loser," with two new trainers.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: There`s big news breaking today about the royal wedding secrets of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Sixty-five days and counting until the wedding. The official invites are out. And today SHOWBIZ TONIGHT got a first look at an upcoming issue of "People" magazine which reveals many of the wedding secrets, including the news that William and Kate are putting their own touch on this wedding and breaking with tradition.

Suzanne Zuckerman is a writer and reporter for "People."

And Suzanne, so many are comparing this wedding to the wedding of William`s mother, the late Princess Diana. One of the most iconic images -- here it is -- from Diana`s wedding is her arriving in that beautiful horse-drawn carriage.

Suzanne, you have learned that Kate`s route to Westminster Abbey will be by car, right, instead of horse-drawn carriage? Why did she decide to break the tradition?

SUZANNE ZUCKERMAN, WRITER-REPORTER, PEOPLE MAGAZINE: That`s absolutely right. In fact we have a palace source who has told us that Kate has opted for a more low key arrival to Westminster Abbey.

Her thinking is that she`ll be arriving at Katherine Middleton and leaving as Her Royal Highness, whatever, so she didn`t want to sort of come along in the trappings of royalty before she was made a princess.

ANDERSON: So she`s leaving in the carriage?

ZUCKERMAN: She -- they will be leaving in a carriage so the public will get to see their sort of prince and princess in a carriage moment. Absolutely. But that`s not until after the wedding.

ANDERSON: Very nice.

ZUCKERMAN: Yes.

ANDERSON: Car, carriage, whatever, the whole event is going to be a fairy tale.

Well, "People" magazine has learned another secret about the party or parties -- plural I should say -- after the wedding at Westminster Abbey.

Suzanne, you`re reporting, right, that there are not one but two parties that day? Tell us.

ZUCKERMAN: Absolutely. And it`s an historic sort of unprecedented thing. The palace will be throwing not one but two after-parties following the royal wedding. First Queen Elizabeth will host a wedding breakfast of champagne and canopies for 600 of their sort of nearest and dearest, and then that evening, everyone, including Kate, will likely change into evening gowns and dinner jackets for a dinner dance that Prince Charles is hosting at Buckingham Palace.

ANDERSON: Wow. The royals know how to do it right.

Suzanne Zuckerman, thank you so much. Good to see you.

ZUCKERMAN: You, too.

ANDERSON: And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is going to be right there for the royal wedding. I`m beside myself with excitement about this. I`m going to be heading to London and will be there for a week leading up to Kate`s wedding to Prince William. It`s set for Friday, April 29th.

A.J., with only 65 more days until the big day, I`ve got to start thinking about what I`m going to wear.

HAMMER: Oh, the Oscars, the wedding, what are you going to do, Brooke?

Now the SHOWBIZ line-up. Here`s what`s coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

Billy Ray Cyrus, a startling new revelation about him and Miley. Can he possibly repair the damage caused by saying "Hannah Montana" destroyed their family?

George Clooney for president? Wait until you hear if George is going to run.

And David Arquette, stunning rehab confessions to Oprah revealed today. That`s coming up.

It`s the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN, news and views.

Now the "Showbiz News Ticker." These are more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

GRAPHICS: Ricky Gervais confirms he`s worth $80 million.

GRAPHICS: Hallmark Channel is second network to do biopic on Kate Middleton and Prince William.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Big news breaking today on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

The Cyrus family feud. Billy Ray Cyrus`s startling new revelations revealed today about him and Miley. But will it be enough to repair his relationship with her?

ANDERSON: David Arquette`s emotional confessions to Oprah revealed today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WINFREY: Who was there for you for the intervention?

ARQUETTE: OK, so I was in -- I came back from Miami and I`d taken a nap and I woke up and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed and Courteney had a cup of coffee. And I was like, what are you two doing here together?

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Courteney Cox`s ex on rehab intervention. We`ve got your SHOWBIZ first look.

HAMMER: George Clooney for president? Is Clooney really ready to get political? George Clooney sets the record straight today.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer coming to you from New York City.

ANDERSON: And I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood with big news breaking today. Billy Ray`s blues.

HAMMER: Yes, Brooke, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that Billy Ray Cyrus is finding out the hard way that when you talk about your teen daughter`s problems in a magazine and say you never should have let her do the show that made her rich and famous, it doesn`t go over all that well.

An explosive new interview with Billy Ray was just revealed today just as we got brand new information about how Miley`s reacting to her dad`s "Hannah Montana" bashing and how Billy Ray is desperately trying to make nice-nice with his superstar daughter.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): Coming up in a very special episode of "Hannah Montana."

MILEY CYRUS, ACTRESS/SINGER: I am so mad.

HAMMER: Miley`s miffed at her dad for being too chatty with the media.

BILLY RAY CYRUS, MILEY CYRUS` DAD: Do you want to talk about it?

M. CYRUS: No.

HAMMER: And despite dad`s attempts to patch things up with his superstar daughter, she`s not having it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Did you see the way she ignored you?

HAMMER: And the whole mess is causing a strain in the family.

B. CYRUS: Group hug.

M. CYRUS: Got to go.

HAMMER: OK. That plot may be imaginary but it`s very close to the real- life situation Billy Ray Cyrus is facing today in his newly strained relationship with Miley Cyrus.

BLAINE ZUCKERMAN, STAFF WRITER, PEOPLE MAGAZINE: We have heard from sources that Miley is extremely upset.

HAMMER: In the upcoming new issue of "People" that SHOWBIZ TONIGHT obtained today we`re hearing shocking new details about the fallout from Billy Ray`s explosive recent interview with "GQ" magazine.

In that interview he criticized Miley`s controversial behavior and said he regretted letting her do "Hannah Montana" saying, quote, "The damn show destroyed my family." Now "People" reports today that didn`t go over too well with Miley.

ZUCKERMAN: Apparently she has relayed to friends that she wishes he would focus on keeping the family together and focus little less on talking so much to the press.

HAMMER: But Billy Ray Cyrus tells "People" magazine in a new interview revealed today that keeping his troubled family together is exactly what he`s trying to do. He says, quote, "Day by day you focus on what you need to do to fix something that was broken." He continues, quote, "I still believe that a father stands by his family. A family is more important than negativity or darkness or fame or fortune."

ZUCKERMAN: A source close to Billy Ray actually said that he felt helpless and that might have been some of the reason that he felt compelled to share some of this and air his dirty laundry.

HAMMER: There`s been no doubt that the Cyrus family wants the picture of Dixie-meets-Hollywood wholesomeness has hit troubled time. In October, Billy Ray filed for divorce from Miley`s mom Tish after almost 17 years of marriage. Miley`s had her own problems recently. Problems that Billy Ray started speaking out about.

ZUCKERMAN: Billy Ray Cyrus used to think that whenever some scandal came up in the past regarding Miley, he seems to think that he`s the one who always took the fall.

HAMMER: About Miley`s super controversial 2009 photo spread in "Vanity Fair" when the then 15-year-old appeared to be wearing only a sheet, Billy Ray tells "People," quote, "I wasn`t there when they wrapped that child in a sheet."

But some are saying Billy Ray isn`t completely blameless in the Cyrus family mess.

ZUCKERMAN: Some sources that we spoke to felt that Miley and Tish were very clear to always focused on her career and the family, while there`s some question as to whether or not Billy Ray might have at times been focused on his own career.

HAMMER: But today SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you there are brand new signs that the Cyrus family may be patching things up.

ZUCKERMAN: Billy Ray and Tish were spotted out many times recently.

HAMMER: And Billy Ray may have learned his lesson about his tell-too-much interview. He cancelled today`s planned appearance on "The View." And "People" magazine`s Blaine Zuckerman tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT he also cancelled a follow-up interview with that magazine.

ZUCKERMAN: He did acknowledge that some of the quotes that he had said recently were truly explosive.

HAMMER (on camera): And as far as Billy Ray and Miley go, there is hope that they may return to the adoring daughter and proud dad that I met when they stopped by SHOWBIZ TONIGHT in 2006 just before "Hannah Montana" first went on the air.

B. CYRUS: I`ve just always loved making music. You know, and give a chance now to work with Miley --

M. CYRUS: I really enjoy it, especially being able to work with him.

ZUCKERMAN: A source specifically said after this incident that Miley is a very forgiving person particularly of her father. And sources think that the family will pull through and get strong in the end.

HAMMER (voice-over): So like your typical ending for "Hannah Montana," maybe, just maybe, this family episode will have a happy ending.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: Well, it certainly does appear that Billy Ray is trying to repair the damage that he caused with Miley by saying "Hannah Montana" destroyed their family. Even though Billy Ray scrapped that planned follow-up phone call, "People" magazine by the way, we just heard, he did issue this statement to them.

Here`s what he said. "It is very important for me to work on mending my family right now. I`ve recently said things that were explosive and unintentionally so. But my family is the most important thing have I and we are working together to make sure our future is stronger and healthier."

So, here`s our "Showbiz Flash Point." Is it too little too late?

Want to bring in Sunny Hostin. Sunny is a legal contributor with "In Session" on truTV.

What do you think, Sunny?

HOSTIN: You know, he`s a parent. Why can`t he say those things? I mean I`m really conflicted about the entire thing, because is it so bad to say this ruined my life? She`s gone kind of amuck, she`s getting tattoos, she`s smoking weird things. This has ruined our family.

What is wrong with saying them? I know that he sort of put her into the limelight.

HAMMER: Yes.

HOSTIN: And he -- but -- and he was already also in the limelight but what`s so wrong about being a parent?

HAMMER: I think it`s because of the Hollywood connection and because image is everything when it comes to Hollywood. I think that`s the problem and that`s why she has such an issue with it. And personally I don`t think it too little, too late. I think Billy Ray genuinely wants to make things whole again and has every reason to be concerned about Miley.

Let me bring in Jill Dobson. Jill is an entertainment journalist here in New York with us.

What do you think? Are we on the right track or too little too late?

JILL DOBSON, ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALIST: You know, I think I really think he even expresses that he should have said more, he says, quote, "I should have been a better parent" in that first interview --

HAMMER: Sure.

DOBSON: -- that he gave "People" magazine. But he also said a lot of really negative things that, yes, he should have expressed as a parent but perhaps to a family therapist, or within the family, saying things like comparing Miley to other celebrities that have had tragic endings to their lives, Anna Nicole Smith and Kurt Cobain. Not the kind of things that you necessarily want put out in the press. How does that help his relationship with Miley?

HAMMER: Yes. Well, that`s true. But it`s a big gray area, and there`s a lot -- I mean I understand when so many people are conflicted over what was right and what was wrong.

If they are indeed repairing their relationship, though, do you think it would be a good idea for Miley to -- I don`t know, for Miley to, you know, make a public appearance with her dad together?

Brooke Anderson, what do you think?

ANDERSON: I don`t think so. I think that healing sometimes needs to happen in private, A.J. I think the public eye can be very piercing and very damaging to relationships if you can`t handle it. So I think maybe they might need to take a time-out for a minute.

But I do want to move on now to an explosive brand new Oprah Winfrey interview with David Arquette that SHOWBIZ TONIGHT just obtained today. We got the very first look at the interview that will air on Oprah`s show on Thursday. In it David makes a stunning rehab confession.

He tells how his wife, Courteney Cox, whom he`s currently separated from, staged an intervention that ultimately led to David checking into rehab for alcohol, for other issues that started the year. You have got to watch what he told Oprah.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WINFREY: Who was there for you for the intervention?

ARQUETTE: So I was in -- I came back from Miami and I`d taken a nap and I woke up and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed and Courteney had a cup of coffee, and I was like, what are you two doing here together?

I was just to give you -- Courteney is like, you mind coming out in the living room for a second? I was like sure. I get dressed, I put on this white outfit and I came out, and I peeked my head around the corner, my best friend (INAUDIBLE) was there, and my business partner, and some guy I don`t know. And I go --

WINFREY: This is the moment.

ARQUETTE: I go, "What up, turkeys." I guess this is my intervention.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Wow. You know, I admire his sense of humor, I admire David for speaking so openly about his addiction problem, sharing how important an intervention was for his life. And I say good for his family and friends for taking that sometimes very difficult step with him.

Sunny, are you with me?

HOSTIN: I`m totally with you. I mean it`s such a difficult thing to deal with, addiction under the spotlight, under the spotlight of Hollywood. And for his wife, his then wife, to say you`ve got a problem, his friends to say you`ve got a problem, and you need to address it, is really, really important. Especially given what we see in Hollywood today.

We see, you know, Lindsay Lohan. We see all of these celebrities suffering from addiction. I think this was a wonderful thing for his family and for himself.

ANDERSON: I do, too. And who better to talk to about it than Oprah Winfrey and maybe this is a sign --

HOSTIN: The oracle.

ANDERSON: -- that he is well on his way to true full recovery and maybe even as marriage with Courteney Cox.

Sunny Hostin, Jill Dobson, thanks.

HAMMER: Well, George Clooney is getting political today. So is he going to run for president? Clooney is setting the record straight today. Will he or won`t he? That`s coming up.

ANDERSON: "Dancing with the Stars" doesn`t start in a week but already a spellbinding scandal is brewing. You will be shocked when we tell you who is reportedly just invited to dance.

HAMMER: Justin Bieber, his brand new haircut. Bieber shows off his cool crop for the first time on national TV today. Take a look at this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ELLEN DEGENERES, HOST, "THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW": (INAUDIBLE) a haircut. You got a brand new haircut. I love it. Don`t you love his haircut?

JUSTIN BIEBER, SINGER: I was inspired by yours.

DEGENERES: By my haircut?

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: More Bieber hair revelations coming up next, including what Kim Kardashian thinks of Bieb`s new do.

This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN, news and views.

And now to "Showbiz News Ticker," even more stories from SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

GRAPHICS: Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson scheduled to present at the Oscars.

GRAPHICS: Eminem passes one billion views on YouTube.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. A.J. Hammer in New York.

HAMMER: Hey, did you hear, Justin Bieber cut his hair. Cue the tweens screaming. There you go.

ANDERSON: Is Jay a tween now? Good for him.

It`s the Bieb`s hairy situation, A.J. And today for the very first time, we got to see the Bieb`s new cut in public. Bieber made a surprise visit to the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" today to show off his new hair-do and ask Ellen for a favor. Watch.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DEGENERES: Is it really your hair?

BIEBER: It`s really my hair.

DEGENERES: It really is?

BIEBER: I`m giving like pieces of it to different people so that -- so that they can --

DEGENERES: So I`m not the only one getting -- I asked for it a long time ago.

BIEBER: I know, but the thing is -- thing is, we`re doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want.

DEGENERES: Really? Can I auction this off? So you`re going to sign the box.

BIEBER: Yes.

DEGENERES: And it`s your hair and I`m going to auction this off on our -- on our Web site and I`m going to give the money to the Gentle Barn, which is an organization that I --

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: I`ve got to give some credit to Justin. He`s really taking a lot of heat about his new hairstyle and he`s actually doing some good here. Even Kim Kardashian weighing in today about Justin`s hair-do. She thinks it`s cute.

I want to bring in Brian Balthazar, editor of Popgoestheweek.com.

Brian, given that so many fans of the Bieb are actually Kim haters because they thought at one point that he was dating her, even though he wasn`t, what do you think? Could her endorsement do more harm than good?

BRIAN BALTHAZAR, EDITOR, POPGOESTHEWEEK.COM: Well, I always do turn to Kim Kardashian for her opinion on the important social issues of the day.

ANDERSON: As we all do, yes.

BALTHAZAR: But you know, I think she -- you know, she sees the day, she responded and suddenly now she`s part of the story. So you got to give her a shutout out for that. But she`s not making any friends with his teen fans. They`re already traumatized enough by this, Brooke. What more can she do?

ANDERSON: Traumatized? Why? I think it`s -- I think it`s decent. I think it`s cute.

I want to bring in contributing editor, Rachel Zalis now, with "Life and Style" magazine.

Rachel and I were (INAUDIBLE) our dos earlier.

RACHEL ZALIS, CONTRIBUTING EDITOR, LIFE AND STYLE WEEKLY: That`s right.

ANDERSON: Because she -- she hates it, I love it. I think maybe it`s time for him to grow up a little bit with this look and this style. But what do you think about Kim Kardashian? Do you think her endorsement will do more harm than good?

ZALIS: I think her fans wish she would stop butting in -- and that`s a big butting in -- to his business. Yes, I don`t think they`re really happy about her opinion about this. And I have to tell you, I think he should change his slogan from "Never Say Never" to "sometimes say never." Like never get a haircut.

ANDERSON: Why?

ZALIS: I miss the old do.

ANDERSON: It will grow out, give him a break.

ZALIS: It`s like when Felicity cut her hair. It`s just awful.

ANDERSON: Felicity, I was -- I was really traumatized by that one.

ZALIS: Yes.

ANDERSON: All right. Brian, you saw the girls in the audience, though, at Ellen DeGeneres screaming and crying and just losing it over Bieber. Do you get the hoopla?

BALTHAZAR: No. I am emphatically ambivalent about Justin Bieber`s hair. But I think what`s crazy is that someone decided let`s keep it, let`s keep it and action it off. And I would recommend to police to find out whoever bought the hair, you should do a background check on that person. They -- they probably have a lot of --

(CROSSTALK)

ANDERSON: It`s for charity.

BALTHAZAR: I know. I`m all about supporting charity but who`s buying the hair? Who is paying money for that hair?

ANDERSON: Doesn`t matter. It`s for charity.

BALTHAZAR: It is.

ANDERSON: But I got to move to this. Because, A.J., it looks like George Clooney may be trying to get himself out of what could have been a hairy situation.

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: And I should point out, by the way, Brooke, I was just scowling because of Brian`s emphatic ambivalence. I don`t have no idea what that was about.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you there are questions today about whether or not George Clooney is ditching Hollywood for Washington.

George is on the cover of the new issue of "Newsweek" magazine. Look at George go. Now the cover story of course is all about his amazing global humanitarian work. But it also reveals that the California Democratic Party wants George to get into politics.

Today George sets the record straight as only he can. Listen to what he says. "I, expletive, too many chicks and did too many drugs. And that`s the truth. I did it all. I drank the bong water. That`s going to be my campaign slogan. I drank the bong water."

Brian, I`m thinking with a slogan like that, It`s Clooney by a landslide.

BALTHAZAR: How could he lose?

HAMMER: How could he lose?

BALTHAZAR: In fact, I don`t know if he`s been paying attention to recent politicians but it`s almost kind of a prerequisite to have a scandal. At least he`s owning up to it in the beginning. You know? Although I think his celebrity --

HAMMER: But I think he`s saying it --

(CROSSTALK)

BALTHAZAR: Right. Right. But his celebrity is enough to make him influential enough. And he can make George Clooney money. Keep making movies.

HAMMER: No question about that. And as we all know, you know, having a big Hollywood star run for office and win, not that strange. Especially out in California. Once big time Hollywood actor Ronald Reagan became governor of state. You know, we know what happened after that.

Arnold Schwarzenegger did as well. And George has always told me, to Brian`s point, that you know what, he always felt he could effect change better if he wasn`t in office. He like doing it from the sidelines.

Rachel, what do you think, though? Should Mr. Clooney go to Washington?

ZALIS: He would absolutely get my vote. But there is no way he would ever take that job. I mean this guy is effecting major political change in Darfur without having to deal with special interest, without having to deal with Washington bureaucracy.

But oddly enough he`s playing a presidential candidate in his new firm "The Ides of March." Definitely the closest he`s going to get.

HAMMER: But that really is the point, isn`t it, that where he`s sits now with his kind of power and influence, he`ll do a whole lot better than getting mired down by politics?

BALTHAZAR: Absolutely. I think more people -- you know let`s look and see how many Twitter followers he has. That say -- people -- celebrities have tremendous influence on people and opinions and they`re getting news for that kind of opinion. He`s going out there and making appearances and people are talking about these things. They might not have talked about it if it weren`t for him.

HAMMER: We love our George Clooney. Thank you, Brian Balthazar and Rachel Zalis both.

ANDERSON: All right. Startling, stunning news today about the new cast of "Dancing with the Stars." You will never guess in a gazillion years who may be part of the new lineup for "Dancing with the Stars."

I`m telling you, you may be spellbound when I tell you who it is. That`s next.

This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN news and views.

HAMMER: Let`s get to the "Showbiz News Ticker." These are more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news today.

And Sandra Bullock`s ex Jesse James is ready to tell all.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): A tattooed tell-all? Sandra Bullock`s cheating scoundrel of an ex-husband Jesse James is writing a memoir.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has learned that the Oscar winner`s ex is spilling the beans in a new book tentatively titled "American Outlaw" due out later this year. Jesse and Sandra split soon after the 2010 Oscars after news broke that Jesse was engaged in several extra marital affairs. He is now engaged to reality star Kat Von D.

Dancing O`Donnell? Christine O`Donnell, the politician from Delaware, best known for declaring that no, she isn`t a witch, might be making her next appearance on the dance floor.

O`Donnell writes on her Facebook page, "I just got the official ask from `Dancing with the Stars.` Although I am utterly flattered, my initial thought was to decline as my 2-year-old nephew has more rhythm than me and my two left feet." She later added, "The Facebook comments about `Dancing with the Stars` list great pros and cons, thank you for your input. Still undecided. Book comes first."

No comment yet from ABC.

Chris can see Rihanna. Shocking news from a Los Angeles courtroom. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that just two years after the brutal domestic violence attacks involving his ex-girlfriend, the stay-away order preventing Chris Brown from getting too close to Rihanna has been lifted. It was set to remain in place until 2014.

Rihanna`s attorney Donald Etra told the judge, "I have spoken to my client and she does not object to the reduction of the stay-away order." An order prohibiting Brown from harassing, stalking or striking Rihanna remains in place.
