Casey Anthony`s Plea; Robin Roberts` Inspiration; Oprah`s Big Gamble; Matt McCounaghey`s Wedding

Aired June 13, 2012 - 23:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

A.J. HAMMER, "SHOWBIZ TONIGHT" HOST: Sympathy for Casey? Casey Anthony speaks out for the first time since the jury found her not guilty of killing her daughter, saying she`s innocent and that she`s just misunderstood. But are Casey`s new revelations just a bid for sympathy?

Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer. Tonight, what an inspiration. "Good Morning, America" anchor Robin Roberts is in a fight for her life getting ready to have a bone marrow transplant to treat a rare blood disorder. Robin`s emotional revelation of her health crisis is now inspiring people in droves to sign up for the bone marrow registry. Her remarkable impact in just a moment.

But first tonight, sympathy for Casey. Casey Anthony has broken her silence. Speaking with CNN`s Piers Morgan by phone in a first interview since being acquitted of her daughter`s murder. And tonight there is big outrage over her words to Piers. People are outraged that Casey may be trying to win some sympathy. The big question, will it work?

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

PIERS MORGAN, CNN HOST: Obviously, I didn`t kill my daughter. She said that very firmly.

HAMMER: Casey Anthony wants the world to know she`s not a murderer and she`s not a bad person.

MORGAN: She said to me the caricature of me that`s out there couldn`t be further from the truth.

HAMMER: On a CNN show last night, Piers Morgan revealed details of his exclusive, off camera, unrecorded phone interview with Casey Anthony who has been in hiding since she was found not guilty of killing her two-year- old daughter, Caylee.

MORGAN: We had this 10-minute conversation, a random conversation in many ways, but it gave me an insight into, I guess, her state of mind, how she`s feeling about her life now.

HAMMER: Now with her interview with Piers, it appears Casey is trying to paint herself as a good person who got caught up in a bad situation.

MORGAN: I`m 22, scared and confused of life in general, not having a direction.

ALEXIS TERESZCUK, RADAR ONLINE: It seems like Casey is trying to rehabilitate her image, trying to really make people forget all the bad things they know about her.

HAMMER: "Showbiz Tonight" is asking, is Casey Anthony trying to get our sympathy? And will it work? Casey shared with CNN`s Piers Morgan more details about her life underground.

MORGAN: She said to me I`m trying to adjust the best I possibly can.

HAMMER: Her attorney revealed how Casey entertains herself.

J. CHENEY MASON, CASEY ANTHONY`S ATTORNEY: She is reading now this trilogy of books called "Hunger Games."

HAMMER: "Hunger Games." You mean that book and movie series about people killing children?

TERESZCUK: Very strange that Casey would be reading this for inspiration and maybe not the Bible.

HAMMER: Casey is also into "I Love Lucy" and "The Three Stooges."

And her lawyer revealed what she`s not into.

MASON: She doesn`t watch this so called reality shows.

HAMMER: So it`s safe to say that Casey is not "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." But Casey is also trying to clear up what she says are misconceptions that helped make her one of the most hated people in the country. For one, she insists -

MORGAN: I`ve never been a, "party girl," she said.

HAMMER: That despite all the partying she did while her daughter was missing. Something else she says she`s not doing?

MORGAN: I`m not trying to sell myself to anyone willing to throw a couple dollars at me. I don`t give a expletive about money.

HAMMER: That despite that countless reports that a representatives unsuccessfully try to sell her story. And what about the first thing she told Piers, the one point she wanted to make more than any others.

MORGAN: Obviously I didn`t kill my daughter.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We, the jury find the defendant, not guilty.

HAMMER: Yes, Anthony was acquitted of killing Caylee but it`s obvious a lot of people feel the verdict was unjust.

And they may not be swayed by Casey`s new statements because well -

TERESZCUK: Casey suffers from a bit of a credibility problem.

HAMMER: That`s an understatement.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I know and you know that everything you told me is all lies.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The truth and Miss Anthony are strangers.

HAMMER: Casey Anthony was actually convicted of lying to police during the investigation of Caylee`s disappearance. For one she lied about leaving Caylee with the woman named Zaneida Fernandez Gonzalez.

In fact, at this very moment, Casey is being sued for that lie by a woman who happens to be named Zaneida Gonzalez. But in her chat with Piers, Casey also offers a convenient explanation for her old lies.

MORGAN: I didn`t trust (INAUDIBLE) because of my relationship with my father who was an ex law enforcement himself.

TERESZCUK: I don`t believe what Casey is saying in her new interview and I think most people think once you`re a liar, you`re always a liar.

HAMMER: Not that Casey Anthony isn`t apologetic -

MORGAN: I`m ashamed in many ways of the person that I was because even then that wasn`t who I am.

HAMMER: But now that Casey has come to the closest she may ever get to giving a big media interview. It`s hard to see how Casey has won any converts.

TERESZCUK: This is definitely her attempt to rehabilitate her image, but I think people are going to have a very hard time believing that she`s changed.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: Well, Casey will probably remain in hiding for quite some time. She`s serving probation for a 2010 conviction on check fraud charges.

Well, we move now to Robin Roberts` inspiring revelation. Robin shared her new health crisis with the world Monday on "Good Morning America." She`s battling a rare blood disorder. It`s quite serious. She`s going to have a bone marrow transplant. Well just two days after her revelation, the number of people signing up as potential bone marrow donors has soared more than 1,800 percent. Wow! I mean that is inspiring.

With me in New York, Marvett Britto, who is an entertainment, PR and brand strategist. Also with me in New York, Michael Billy, a TV and radio host. So the Minneapolis based Be the Match Registry which is a non-profit organization operated by the National Marrow Donor Program is telling HLN ordinarily they see about 200 to 300 people registering daily on-line, but on Monday after Robin Roberts revealed her battle, more than 3,600 people signed up in a matter of hours. I mean. wow, talk about star power, Marvett. Why do you think people responded to Robin Roberts` story the way that they did?

MARVETT BRITTO, ENTERTAINMENT, PR & BRAND STRATEGIST: When a celebrity emerges to put a face to the experience, it only helps to empower and educate a national audience. I think for Robin, the courage and resilience that she`s shown emerging from her former, her last health crisis has really rallied Americans and her national audience to really want to be courageous in their own crisis. I think they want to rally around her, they want to support her, and they want to show that they stand united while she goes throughout this journey.

HAMMER: And that`s exactly the point, because it`s not as if they`re making donations or potentially being donors for her. Robin revealed that her sister is actually a perfect bone marrow match. Still, you have all these potential donors feeling inspired to sign up and try to help others. What does that say about Robin`s specific impact to you, Michael?

MICHAEL BILLY, TV AND RADIO HOST: What is being on television worth for all of us? What do we do with the notoriety that we get from being on TV, in people`s houses? All people on television, if they have the notoriety, should use it to talk about causes. I do it my alcohol and alcohol recovery, I also do it for the gay community. We should all have causes and use this amazing venue to talk about things that we care about to rally people behind causes.

HAMMER: Another reason why she is so well loved. And I have to say I`ve gotten to know Robin a bit over the years. She really is an inspiring human being, and it`s not just TV. She`s a wonderful person and Robin, we wish you all the best to get through this as smoothly as possible.

Right now, I must move on to the brand new reports today that reality star, Khloe Kardashian is undergoing fertility treatments. Now TMZ reports today that Khloe is starting treatments to try to get pregnant. She`s been very open on her reality show about her desire to have a baby. Marvett, do you think it`s important for her to be just as open if she is going through fertility treatments right now? It`s a pretty private issue.

BRITTO: It`s a private issue, but when you have a reality show, you want to create compelling content. And I think for Khloe and the Kardashians, they`ve been very smart to take their fans on every journey, so why not take them on an emotional journey and one that`s so close to not only her but her family. I think it`s very smart of her. I`m sure there are other young women who might be going through a similar experience, so I think it`s brilliant for them to really let people go along for that experience as well.

HAMMER: Yes, I think it makes perfect sense. And quite frankly, if they didn`t do it, there would probably be some backlash because you really can`t have it both ways on reality TV, particularly when you`re a Kardashian. And look, we certainly hope that Khloe and Lamar are able to fulfill their wish and eventually become parents, whatever the path is that they choose. But how important do you it is, Michael, for Khloe`s husband, NBA star, Lamar Odum, to be a part of this process that we may see on TV because he`s made it quite clear he`s done being a part of the whole machine.

BILLY: Yes, but I think it`s important, because if you`re going to be part of the family, and the family as a whole has gone through a lot of negative press dealing with their show, this is something positive that they really shed light on and they can help a lot of people. So if I were Lamar or anybody involved, this is something you want to delve into to see how much you can do to make a difference. It`s a positive spin for their show.

HAMMER: Do you see a down side to this playing publicly, Marvett? If they do chose to go that route?

BRITTO: Not at all. I mean he is her husband, he`s her partner. So you have to be a partner throughout the good and bad experiences. So it will be smart for him to stand beside her and not, you know, choose this time to be absent.

HAMMER: And nothing gets bigger ratings on reality TV than a Kardashian baby, I would imagine.

BILLY: Absolutely. We all know.

HAMMER: We`ll see what happens. All right. Thank you, as always, Marvett, Michael. Appreciate it.

We move on now to Oprah. Under attack, Oprah Winfrey taking a lot of heat for "Keeping up with the Kardashians." Is she really making a huge mistake sitting down for an interview with the family that`s famous for being famous? Oh, yes, and there was that sex tape, of course.

And stars under attack on the red carpet.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Why would you do that?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Here it comes.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think I`m in love with you.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: George, please.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: It seems to be happening a lot lately. George Clooney, Will Smith, Kim K. Under siege on the red carpet. It is a showbiz special report you have got to see. Where, I ask, have all the respect gone on the red carpet?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: You and Obama and your celebrity crush walk into a party. No, this isn`t a joke or a dream. It could be your reality. For a $3 donation, you can enter for a chance to attend a fundraising dinner with the president. That three bucks also gives you the chance to tell the president which big star should join him for that very dinner. No location or date set yet, but here`s my $3 worth, if I got to go with the president`s dinner, I would think I like to ask Kathy Griffin to come along. I think she`ll make the night a lot of fun.

Coming next. I`ll reveal the secrets from the set of "Live with Kelly."

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KATIE COURIC, HOST: I have this insatiable curiosity. Even at my age of 54, I feel like I have a lot in common with viewers. I feel like they`re my friends.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Katie Couric got a little help from her famous friends like Ryan Seacrest, Sheryl Crow, and Kelly Rippa in her brand new video promoting her new daytime show "Katie," which starts this fall. And speaking of Kelly Rippa, she has become even a bigger force on daytime TV since Regis Philbin left the show in November. "Live with Kelly" is a ratings winner but the man behind Kelly is Michael Gelman, a long-time executive producer of the show. He has been known to fans for years as really the butt of Regis` jokes, but what`s no joke is the fact that he has truly run a fun to watch, well-oiled machine for decades and he makes it look so easy.

I spoke with Gelman on the set of "Live" and he revealed to me secrets about the search for a new co-host and he tells me why he wants to end his daytime Emmy streak as the (INAUDIBLE) of daytime talk show.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: I love the fact that you`ve been doing this show for how many years now?

MICHAEL GELMAN, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, "LIVE WITH KELLY": Almost 30. Almost 30 years. Every time I start to get bored, something reignites my energy, you know, need for challenge. I mean going national, you know, becoming a national syndicated hit, you know, finding someone to replace Kathie Lee. You know, now it`s finding the new iteration of the show with Kelly and someone else.

KELLY RIPPA, HOST: Neil Patrick Harris.

GELMAN: If we`re doing our jobs right, it looks totally unrehearsed like two people got together for coffee and you know, talked about what`s in the papers and their lives, and their celebrity friends came over.

RIPPA: And jump over fire?

GELMAN: I don`t think the show really gets the respect that it deserves because we make it look so easy.

HAMMER: So when we`re watching these cooking segments, they seem to go off so seamlessly and so flawlessly, and you have (INAUDIBLE) amount of time. You have to walk through the whole thing.

GELMAN: We go through it, and the director goes through it, and we know what`s supposed to happen. We have a little experience. Yes, we`ve done 87 or 8 or 10,000 hours of live TV.

HAMMER: Holy mackerel. How many of those have you been a part of?

GELMAN: All of them. Yes. I think I`m talking to Guinness but I think they may have a world record, just like Regis. You know, we pointed out that he had the most hours on TV.

HAMMER: Right.

GELMAN: I believe that I have the most hours producing live TV.

RIPPA: This one is for Gelman.

HAMMER: These people have waited a long time to be in here. They`re big fans of the show. They finally get their chance and warming them up is a big part of your day.

GELMAN: Sure. In the old days when we were local, we didn`t have the money to pay anyone. After a while, I became a character, people expected me to be out there. And, you know, they come, they`ve been waiting a year, and when I come out, it`s like I`m the appetizer, like, oh, my goodness, it`s Gelman.

(INAUDIBLE) what are you going to do?

HAMMER: This show certainly has gotten respect from the Emmys over the years, and once again you guys are nominated.

GELMAN: Nominated again.

HAMMER: And you have a rich history of nominations, don`t you?

GELMAN: Yes, I sure do. I`m way past the Susan Lucchi mark, I`m way past less publicity. Susan had 17 and I`ve over 20 nominations. So I`m hoping this year, you know, I thought the show that we entered was our Regis goodbye shot.

HAMMER: Was there a master plan after Regis announced that he was leaving?

GELMAN: The master plan was to let it unfold organically. So it`s going spectacularly. The ratings are good, we are loving the different hosts with Kelly. I would say, you know, we`d like to get it done this year. How`s that?

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: There is a man who deserves all the success. You can find him on "Live with Kelly." They finally ends the losing streak when the 39th annual daytime Emmys air here live on HLN. That`s on June 23rd at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. I`ll be on the red carpet with all of your favorite daytime stars, even Gelman, a special edition of "Showbiz Tonight," 7:00 p.m. Eastern here on HLN. You can actually join me in the middle of all the action. You got to enter the HLN Red Carpet Sweepstakes at hlntv.com/daytimeemmysweeps. Tonight, Rihanna exposed. It`s summer in the Big Apple, but Rihanna hotter than July in this barely there top and see-through skirt. Ri, we get it, you`re hot but is this too much, or dare I say too little, for the streets of New York?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I like it. It`s traditional.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Well, I think you`ll really like the price.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Really?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It`s actually below what you were looking for. It`s at 335.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Warning. The news you are about to hear about the wildly popular show "House Hunters" could be hard to take. "House Hunters" has reportedly been revealed as a big fat fake! That`s right. The three homes, the bickering couples, the happy decisions - all staged. If you`ve never watched "House Hunters," it`s pretty simple. It`s sort of like a real estate game show with a dash of voyeurism. A buyer looks at three homes, decides on one at the end of the episode, and then you get to see what life is like for the buyer after they settle into their brand new home.

Well, today a brand new report in "Entertainment Weekly" is blowing the roof off the entire show. This is very sad to me. TV and radio host and huge "House Hunters" fan Michael Billy is here with me in New York. And let me read to you the big "House Hunter" shockers that were revealed today.

A woman who is featured on the show back in 2006 says those other two houses that she was thinking about buying - well, they were her friends` homes just spiffed up for TV. They weren`t even for sale. The heartwarming story about her family needing a big home, that was made up, too. And the whole drama about deciding on which house to buy. Well, the whistleblower says the "House Hunters" often have closed or close to sealing the deal on their homes before the show is even taped. Michael, I`m also a fan of the show. I must ask you, are you shocked, because we`re not talking about Snookie and the gang at the shore here, we`re talking about real adults making real decisions.

BILLY: I know, my partner and I love this show and we always talk about how the hell did they do this show. This is so disappointing, as a big fan. You know, reality television, Kardashians, you can concede some of it is not real. But they sold this show as the real thing. And you`re counting on the decision making. Those of us who are fans of real estate, it`s really disappointing.

HAMMER: But it`s still wildly entertaining if you step back from it all. Do you think this will affect the viewers of the show? Do you think they walk away from it now that this stuff is coming out?

BILLY: No, I`m still going to watch it. Look I`ve produced reality TV and I`ve produced "The Next American Gay, Mr. Gay World USA." Fantastic. However, as a producer, you have to concede some reality. Those are little lies. This was a major lie in reality television. That`s what I don`t get as a producer and as a fan.

HAMMER: Buying a home, there`s a lot involved in that and you know, television has to be done in a tight schedule. Here`s what HDTV which aired "House Hunters" admitted to "Showbiz Tonight" in a lengthy statement. They said they do fudge some of the show for the sake of reality TV but at the end of the day, the show encompasses what we most love about it "Through the lens of television, we can offer a uniquely satisfying and fun viewing experience that fulfills a universal lead to occasionally step into someone else`s shoes." I must tell you, Michael and I, bet you`re with me on this, I`m still going to watch.

BILLY: I`m still going to watch. Let`s have a viewing part.

HAMMER: I think we should.

BILLY: We`ll get some popcorn.

HAMMER: Buy a couple of houses. Michael, thank you. As always.

Well here`s what`s coming up at the bottom of the hour on "Showbiz Tonight." Is Oprah making a huge mistake, with a capital K? There is outrage tonight over Oprah`s interview with the Kardashians and their extended family. So is Oprah Winfrey going back in the very reason she started her own network in the first place, to get away from reality TV madness?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): Oprah`s big gamble. Oprah Winfrey is talking to the entire Kardashian family in a special interview, but critics are slamming her saying it`s a new low for her struggling own network. Showbiz dares to ask, is Oprah losing her way?

Plus, stars under attack.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Now why would you do that?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Here it comes.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think I`m in love with you.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: George, please.

HAMMER: The showbiz special report, new clues about how rude it`s getting on the red carpet.

ANNOUNCER: TV`s most provocative entertainment news show continues right now.

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. And tonight, Oprah`s big gamble. Oprah Winfrey is taking some serious heat, and it`s all because of the Kardashians. The talk show queen is pushing her big exclusive interview with the Kardashian-Jenner clan, which airs on Sunday night on Own. Take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Sunday, on an all-new Oprah`s "Next Chapter," they are America`s favorite reality TV family. For the first time from the Jenner home in Kinton (ph) Hills, Oprah and the entire Kardashian family -- Kim, Khloe and Lamar, Kourtney and Scott, Kylee, Kendall, Rob, and Bruce and Kris. The exclusive. Oprah`s "Next Chapter. "

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: So what`s the big deal here? Well, you might remember when Oprah first started Own, she said that she wanted to inspire people. So there are a lot of people wondering how a show on the Kardashians is going to do that. Could this hurt O`s rep? With me in New York, Nikki Boyer, who is the host of "Daytime in No Time" on Yahoo TV, and Trapper Felides, who is the star of Oxygen`s new show, "The Next Big Thing New York."

It`s great to have you both here.

So here`s the deal. We all know and love Oprah for creating feel-good programming that we learn something from. Not everybody sees exactly how this Kardashian interview fits into that master plan. Trapper, I must start with you. Do you think this criticism is fair?

TRAPPER FELIDES, STAR, THE NEXT BIG THING NY: I mean, I`m always gunning for Oprah.

HAMMER: In a good way.

FELIDES: Absolutely.

HAMMER: You want to see Oprah succeed.

FELIDES: I`m sad, Oprah kind of went away for a little bit, and it`s been weird, because we all -- you grew up to Oprah too--

NIKKI BOYER, HOST, DAYTIME IN NO TIME: Yes, absolutely.

FELIDES: Like she`s absolutely, absolutely the queen of the universe, and I want to think that she`s going to come back, she`s going to revitalize this network and make it happen. However, the Kardashians are the wrong place to go if you`re trying to, like, establish credibility.

HAMMER: Well, let`s talk about that, Nikki. I mean, that`s the point that people are making. They are saying, the Kardashians, that is not going to make me live my best life.

BOYER: Right, exactly. When I was watching the series finale of "Oprah," I felt inspired and I couldn`t wait to see what she was going to do next. Now, seeing what`s happening on the Own network, I have to say I`m a little unimpressed, and I feel like the universe is talking about the Kardashians, so Oprah feels like she then needs to give the exclusive interview. As much as I cringe at it, there is a part of me that wants to watch, and the other part of me wants to say, what are you doing? I feel very divided in the depths of my soul.

HAMMER: Because at the end of the day -- and I am sorry it goes that deep for you--

BOYER: Me too!

HAMMER: But there it is.

FELIDES: I`m in the depths, too, but like I don`t blame her. No one is watching her network. Like, people obviously, for whatever reason, care about the Kardashians. I can never make sense of it myself. As someone who is on a new reality show, like, I have to look at them and say they`ve done something right, so -- and I mean, I hate that. I hate it.

HAMMER: There is no question they`re a viable phenomenon. We can`t ignore that any longer. And Oprah`s show, "Next Chapter," has gotten a lot of attention. As you mentioned, the network is certainly struggling.

I do love her show, I love her interviewing style. She interviewed Whitney Houston`s daughter Bobbi Christina just a month after Whitney`s death, and that raised questions about whether it was too soon. And this past Sunday, a lot of people found it curious. She interviewed rap star 50 Cent, who himself had publicly slammed Oprah in the past. They seemed to have settled up their feud, but let`s take a look at how that one went.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OPRAH WINFREY, TALK SHOW HOST: OK. Why did you name your dog Oprah?

50 CENT, RAPPER: At the time I was just looking at the situation and I started developing negative feelings for someone who doesn`t even know me.

WINFREY: So now do you have greater affection for me?

50 CENT: Absolutely, I have for a few years now.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Oh, good. I`m glad they settled that, but here`s the thing.

FELIDES: Thanks, 50 Cent.

HAMMER: You had 50 Cent, you had Bobbi Christina and now the Kardashians are up next. Here`s our Showbiz flashpoint, and I`m going to throw it first to you, Nikki, do you think this interview with the Kardashians is possibly damaging Oprah`s reputation?

BOYER: I`m going to go ahead and say no, because I`m hoping that she asks questions that will go deeper than what we all know. The things we all secretly want to know about the Kardashians, I hope she goes there on a very human level. If she doesn`t, then I have to say it`s probably going to be pretty damaging to her career.

HAMMER: What do you think about that, Trapper?

FELIDES: I don`t think so, really. I don`t think any of them are capable -- any of the Kardashian clan is capable of giving anything but the most canned response, so it doesn`t really make sense to me that Oprah would be interviewing them, because she`s there to get the real answer, and those girls are scripted to the gills.

HAMMER: Although Kris -- well, Kris also, she knows exactly what she`s doing with every word that comes out of her mouth. She does it very methodically. But there is a point -- and we do want to see Oprah succeed -- that perhaps OK, she said she was going to do this from the start, live your best life, and now maybe she realizes, you know what, it`s a tough business, and she`s owned up to that before, I got to do what I got to do if I`m going to make this thing succeed. So we`ll end up seeing what happens, and how people react to the interview.

BOYER: She`s just running out of people to interview. I mean, come on.

HAMMER: Thank you, guys, so much.

FELIDES: She lost her time slot. It`s gone. She has a network now. She has got to figure something new out.

HAMMER: Trapper and Nikki, appreciate you being here. Make sure you check out Nikki Boyer on "Daytime in No Time" on Yahoo TV, and see Trapper Felides, his new show -- am I getting the name right?

FELIDES: Felides.

HAMMER: It is "The Next Big Thing, New York," Tuesday on Oxygen.

Moving on now. These days, it seems like stars can`t catch a break anywhere. There used to be a time that at least on the red carpet, it was sacred. Celebrities got the royal treatment. They had their adoring fans, cameras flashing, and the media respectfully standing big to grab an interview politely. But I can tell you those days are over. Stars are literally under attack on the red carpet from booby trapped microphones to out-of-control stunts by alleged journalists. Stars just can`t seem to catch a break. Showbiz Tonight`s Kareen Wynter has the Showbiz special report on just how rude the red carpet has gotten.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

TOM CRUISE, ACTOR: Now, why would you do that?

KAREEN WYNTER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: From squirt gun assaults.

CRUISE: It`s ridiculous.

WYNTER: To press conference proposition.

GEORGE CLOONEY, ACTOR: Here comes.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think I`m in love with you. George, please, take me.

WYNTER: Showbiz Tonight can tell you more and more stars are facing attacks from the media. Will Smith`s stunner came at the premiere of "Men in Black 3" in Moscow. Working the red carpet, he came face to face and almost lip to lip with a Ukrainian journalist.

WILL SMITH, ACTOR: Come on, man, what the hell is your problem, buddy?

WYNTER: When the reporter got fresh with the Fresh Prince, Smith smacked him.

SMITH: He started kissing me in my mouth. (inaudible).

WYNTER: But Will`s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, was outraged as she exclusively told Showbiz Tonight`s A.J. Hammer.

JADA PINKETT SMITH, ACTRESS: People have to understand that just because we are public figures, you can`t cross a line of infringing on someone`s personal space.

WYNTER: But that line is being crossed more than ever before. Tom Cruise got victimized at the 2005 "War of the Worlds" premiere in London. This Youtube video shows an unsuspecting Cruise being interviewed by a guy with a booby-trapped microphone.

CRUISE: Why would you do that? Why did you do that? Come here. Come here. Why would you do that?

WYNTER: Tom, Showbiz Tonight wants to know why this is happening, too, so we put the question to Maggie Furlong of HuffPost TV.

MAGGIE FURLONG, HUFFPOST TV: I feel like we live in such a paparazzi culture now that is kind of seeping into the world of journalism, that now anyone who wants to gossip or chatter can get a credential to go on the red carpet.

WYNTER: In his latest premiere for "Rock of Ages," Cruise kidded with Showbiz Tonight that as far as red carpets go, nothing much has changed.

CRUISE: I haven`t noticed it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Really?

CRUISE: I`m joking, I`m kidding.

WYNTER: All joking aside, Cruise acknowledged the rules of the game have changed, and the stars can no longer trust the media to respect boundaries.

CRUISE: It`s like--

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Go with the punches?

CRUISE: Yes, you just got to roll with it.

WYNTER: Kim Kardashian rolled with it in March at an event to unveil her new fragrance. She got flower bombed by a woman who infiltrated the red carpet. But Kim K dusted herself off and returned to the press line.

George Clooney, likewise, let it roll off him at the Venice Film Festival when a journalist publicly propositioned him.

CLOONEY: Here comes.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think I`m in love with you. George, please, take me. Choose me, George! Please! Please, choose me. George, may I kiss you, please.

WYNTER: Clooney deftly deflated his admirer.

CLOONEY: It`s always embarrassing when you take one real swing for the fences and it just falls flat. It`s a good try, though.

WYNTER: Will Smith might not have handled his awkward encounter quite as smoothly as Clooney, but Maggie Furlong the journalist was way out of line.

FURLONG: That`s horrible and ridiculous, and that guy should be banned forever.

WYNTER: But Showbiz Tonight can tell you it`s not just the media that`s taking this punk-you attitude. Who can forget the Oscars when Sacha Baron Cohen, dressed as his Dictator character, dumped ashes on Ryan Seacrest. Long gone are the days when red carpets were safe havens.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: It used to be such a nice, safe, friendly place.

That`s Showbiz Tonight`s Kareen Wynter, showing us just how nasty it`s getting for stars on the red carpet. Well, tonight, another celebrity is causing a huge stir off the red carpet. We`re talking about Rihanna`s nearly topless stroll through New York City. Shopping in the Big Apple and turning heads in one of the raciest outfits ever. Showbiz dares to ask, did she go too far?

Plus, just friends? David Arquette has officially filed for divorce from Courteney Cox after two years of separation. Our Showbiz burning question, why did he do it on the anniversary of their wedding?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Ah, Rihanna. The pop star, the tweeter, the head turner with yet another big, can you believe she did that moment? Tonight, Rihanna exposed. Literally. She wasn`t stepping out for a music video or even a photo shoot. This is Rihanna just walking down a New York City street. Would you look at that? Yes, she`s a pop star, but this time there are people questioning, has she gone a smidge too far?

Let me bring in Nikki Boyer, who is the host of "Daytime in No Time" on Yahoo TV, and Trapper Felides, star of "The Next Big Thing, New York." It airs Tuesday nights on Oxygen.

So, Rihanna`s daytime get-up is so revealing we actually had to cover up part of the picture. This isn`t what people actually saw if they saw her.

Nikki, do you think this is a big cry for attention? There are a lot of people who are talking about this today, so it`s certainly working if that was the case.

BOYER: It`s working. I don`t think she`s conscious that she`s crying for attention, I just think she`s a bit on the wrong road here. I used to watch Rihanna and see what she was wearing, she`s very cutting edge, very just pushing the envelope, but this is sort of just missing the big picture. I feel like she is a little lost right now.

HAMMER: Doing it for the sake of doing it, kind of.

BOYER: Yes, or I just think she thinks she doesn`t have to listen to any rules at all. I mean, she`s not wearing a bra, clearly, and that doesn`t even look like anything trendy or hip. I`m just a little confused as to what she`s wearing in New York City.

HAMMER: We (inaudible) some of this out here, but listen, she`s a pop star. Pop stars push the limits, it`s what they do. It`s something that Rihanna has done as she has grown up in the public eye. And quite frankly, she is a beautiful woman, and Trapper, you know, a lot of people say, if you got it, why not flaunt it?

FELIDES: I don`t know what she`s trying to flaunt there. Like, I mean, I think it`s kind of silly. I don`t really have any judgment calls on her. At the end of the day, she`s just a girl who put something on and walked out onto the street. If you go down to the East Village in New York, you`ll see some crazy garbs.

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: That`s right. And people who don`t have millions and millions of followers, and then there`s the old debate about, do you bear any responsibility? But Rihanna is the first to say, you know what, I do what I do for myself, and that`s really the end of the conversation for me.

There is another big story that`s making some big news tonight. I want to get to David Arquette, reportedly just officially filed for divorce from Courteney Cox on their anniversary, and -- hold on. Not done with what he`s been up to. He`s celebrated his bar mitzvah at age 40. Usually done at age 14, but when you do that, he says, finally I`m a man. Nikki, do you think it`s a coincidence that all of these major life events happened concurrently?

BOYER: You know, I do think it`s a coincidence, because I don`t think he`s that thought out with everything. He seems like a very fly by the seat of your pants kind of guy. So I don`t think it was that thought out.

Between 2010 and now, he`s filed for divorce, he`s gone to rehab, he was on "Dancing With the Stars," he`s been partying, and now all of a sudden he gets bar mitzvahed. I feel like -- and I feel like he`s just latching on to try to find some sort of stability here.

HAMMER: And I`ll add to that, I`ve heard him say that he`s in love, that he`s actually said he is in a loving relationship. So the question is, Trapper, hearing all of those things that he`s done, the rehab, he did "Dancing With The Stars," and he was great on it. Doing this, filing for divorce on the anniversary, having his bar mitzvah, saying I am finally a man, is it all sort of bringing the master plan of his life transformation to fruition?

FELIDES: I look on the positive side of things, so I`d like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. At the end of the day, he and Courteney Cox met on like the set of "Scream," they got married. I don`t know why. They never made sense as a couple to any of us. He`s kind of all over the place.

HAMMER: So here is what we should do. We wish them all well. We wish them well. Everybody!

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: Even my cameraman Todd wishes them well.

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: Nikki and Trapper, thank you both so much.

We move on now to marrying Matt. Showbiz Tonight is revealing the incredible new pictures of Matthew McConaughey`s wedding to the lovely Camila Alves. Get ready for all of the amazing details from the lavish celebrity wedding.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Tonight, marrying Matt. In a stunning ceremony, Matthew McConaughey has just finally tied the knot with his long-time love Camila Alves, and "People" magazine was there, front and center, to catch every magical moment.

I want to bring in Jen Garcia, who is the senior writer with "People" magazine, and she has the exclusive details of this fabulous McConaughey- Alves wedding extravaganza. So Jen, I want you to set the stage for us. What stands out the most in your eyes from this big weekend wedding?

JEN GARCIA, PEOPLE MAGAZINE SR. WRITER: I mean, absolutely everything. It was just incredible. Not only was it romantic but it still had that kind of laid-back, relaxed vibe. But it was memorable. I mean, these people did everything to make their guests remember this wedding for the rest of their lives. They had them stay on property in these luxury tents, and both of them just looked absolutely beautiful. It was pretty incredible.

HAMMER: Let`s talk about the beauty, because, look, there`s no denying Camila is a stunning woman, obviously a very beautiful bride. Tell us about the moment when she entered the room. That has to have been magical.

GARCIA: It really was. And Matthew`s mom Kay told us that she just saw her son look up and just say how thankful he was to have her in his life, and of course their two beautiful kids, and everyone really just gasped. I mean, she just looked so absolutely stunning. And later, it was a very emotional Catholic ceremony. The two couldn`t have looked happier.

HAMMER: And their children that you mentioned came in as flower girl and ringbearer. That had to have been priceless. I`m sure there were a lot of oohs and aahs going on at that time.

GARCIA: There definitely were. They walked down the aisle barefoot, and Matthew knelt down, and the two little kids just ran towards their dad. It was a really sweet moment.

HAMMER: OK. So I noticed that there were 120 guests on hand. I know that Matthew has a lot of celebrity friends. Was it a star-studded event? Can you give us a couple of names, drop some hints as to who was there?

GARCIA: Absolutely. It really was. There was a pregnant Reese Witherspoon there with her husband, Jim Toth. John Mellencamp, who actually sang during the wedding was there with girlfriend Meg Ryan. Kenny Chesney, Guy Fieri from the Food Network, who actually helped barbecue on Sunday with everyone, so it definitely had some famous faces.

HAMMER: Now, a lot of people were not aware that this was going down. Did they do a pretty good job of keeping this hush-hush, or were there helicopters flying through the air, were the paparazzi hanging from the trees?

GARCIA: You know, people only found out about it the day or two before, so they did such an incredible job of keeping this under wraps, which, as we know, is hard for celebrity couples to do. No one got any pictures, they had the wedding in a tent. So it was pretty (inaudible).

HAMMER: And reserved all the good shots for you guys at "People." Thank you so much, Jen Garcia.

GARCIA: They did.

HAMMER: Great, great information.

GARCIA: Thanks.

HAMMER: We move on now to Joan Rivers message for Madonna. Why the queen of comedy is actually blasting the queen of pop. Here`s a hint, it`s all about Lady Gaga.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Tonight, Joan Rivers` advice on Madonna`s pop star feud with Lady Gaga. Also, Robin Roberts` brave health confession inspires thousands to help fight a rare disorder, and that tops the buzz today.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): The revelation heard around the country.

ROBIN ROBERTS: It`s a rare blood disorder that affects the bone marrow.

HAMMER: Just after Robin Roberts tearfully informed GMA viewers that she is battling a rare blood disorder, the number of people signing up to be bone marrow donors has soared more than 1,800 percent. Be the Match, a national nonprofit marrow donor registry program, reports Roberts` emotional revelation Monday morning inspired more than 3,600 people to sign up immediately.

Joan`s message for Madonna. In a brand new interview with Showbiz Tonight, Joan Rivers is blasting Madonna for fueling a public feud with Lady Gaga. Joan is offering some words of advice to the Material Girl: Leave Lady G. alone.

JOAN RIVERS, COMEDIAN: What I find fascinating is that Lady Gaga, she keeps saying Lady Gaga stole everything of mine. Which I thought -- don`t say that. You`re Madonna. Shut up.

HAMMER: Right. It seems beneath her, so we would think, and that to me seems like a cry for attention.

RIVERS: A cry for attention. Lady Gaga is so -- how can you steal a rash? You can`t steal certain things.

(CROSSTALK)

RIVERS: I find that -- you`re Madonna. Act like Madonna.

HAMMER: Good point, Joan.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: Well, tonight, the question that every man has tried to answer at least once in his life, what do women want? Tonight, Dr. Drew thinks he can figure out that very answer. Dr. Drew on HLN starts right now.
