Bush Meets With Emir of Bahrain

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: We want take you to the White House, where we are seeing President Bush is just now walking out. He has a distinguished guest with him this morning: The man to his right is the emir of Bahrain.

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: ... It housed our 5th Fleet and it's one of the strong allies.

He has made a big difference in his own country, been on the leading edge of reform, believes in human rights and believes in the full participation of the people of his land. And it's really great (inaudible). Such an honor to welcome you here.

EMIR HAMAD BIN ISA AL KHALIFA OF BAHRAIN: I'm pleased to have this honor today to meet with the president, who has been promising from the day he wanted to be in this job. And I'm sure America will do a great thing and move forward in all fields for the stability and security mainly of my region, the gulf region.

We have an old relationship, lasted for more than 100 and something years, and I think we will keep that one. And that's why I'm here, to consult in matters of security, matters of trade, matters of develpment. And I thank the president for his invitation, his kind invitation.

QUESTION: Mr. President, a quick question on energy policy, sir.

HARRIS: We were anticipating that President Bush would be entertaining some questions from the press assembled there outside the White House, particularly since the topic of our discussion throughout the morning here on CNN has been fuel prices and energy policy of the White House, and President Bush was there with the emir of Bahrain, an oil producing nation.

They're choosing not to answer questions, but we did get the picture for you.
