LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: All right, let's take you back now live to Washington, that Rock Creek Park site where our reporters have been stationed there as police have conducted their search for evidence in the Chandra Levy case.

(JOINED IN PROGRESS)

UNIDENTIFIED POLICE OFFICER: Thank you. Thank you.

UNIDENTIFIED POLICE OFFICER: Thanks, Sarge.

UNIDENTIFIED POLICE OFFICER: Thank you, sir.

UNIDENTIFIED POLICE OFFICER: Hey, don't talk to me about that.

HARRIS: We just sort of, we just missed it, but we were able to listen in as the officer was talking there to the press. He says that what they have found is a box and a sneaker. There are some shoes. As you can see, our Eileen O'Connor is getting in position -- Eileen, can you hear me?

EILEEN O'CONNOR, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Basically, Leon, what we're hearing is that, basically, Leon, that was Sergeant Panizari. He is of the special investigations unit. And what he said was that what they found in here was, as we've described, a box cutting knife, and also a pair of running shoes, sneakers. They appear to be fairly large. They may be men's running shoes.

Also, a few feet away was a Nike sneaker box, which we don't know if it was or wasn't related. And, again, also, Sergeant Panizari talking to me earlier said they're going to find a lot of items like this in this park. It's a huge park, over 1,700 acres. There's a lot of homeless people living in this park. So this could have been a pair of shoes that someone found at a dumpster and tried on and then discarded again.

So we don't know if it's related to the Chandra Levy investigation -- Leon.

HARRIS: Eileen, are they telling you that you can stay in that area now or are you going to have to move again?

O'CONNOR: No, we can stay in this area. They're beginning the search again. That was the evidence collection team. They're taking, obviously, all of those items in and they're going to be checking them. But now they're going to continue the search on all the way down to a tennis court area. Sergeant Panizari spoke to me earlier and told us the area all along Piney Branch Road is what they're going to be searching, down to the tennis courts. The reason is, they say, these was, this area was part of maps that Chandra Levy brought up on her computer May 1, the morning of her disappearance -- Leon.

HARRIS: All right, thank you very much for that last second of flash reporting there for us. Eileen O'Connor there at Rock Creek Park in Washington. We'll get back there as developments warrant.
