President Bush's Opening Remarks in Normandy, France

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Over to western France as promised, President Bush now at the microphone addressing about 2,000 D-Day veterans a bit later today. Jacques Chirac the French president to his right.

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: ... both Americans and the French. It is fitting that we remember those who sacrificed, because today we defend our freedoms. We defend our freedoms against people who can't stand freedom. This defense will require the sacrifice of our forefathers, but it's a sacrifice I can promise you we'll make. It's a sacrifice we'll make for the good of America and for the good of France and for the good of freedom all over the world.

HEMMER: President Bush, again opening remarks there in Normandy, France with the French president. Some of those remarks, saying, we defend our freedom against those who cannot stand our freedom, the words from President Bush. We do anticipate a much longer address in about 60 minutes' time. We will go back to Normandy when that address is made.
