Brittany Clarke Reads Poem for Father
Aired September 11, 2002 - 09:59 ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
BRITTANY CLARKE, DAUGHTER OF WTC VICTIM: My name is Brittany Clark. My father, Keith, was a chef on the 96th floor of the World Trade Center. This poem makes me feel like my daddy is speaking to me. I gave you this one thought to keep. I am with you still, I do not sleep. I am a 1,000 winds that blow. I am the diamond glimpse on the snow. I am a sunlight on riping grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds and circled flights. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone, I am with you still in each new dawn.
(APPLAUSE)
AARON BROWN, CNN ANCHOR: Brittany father died when the south tower collapsed. It was in that moment for me, I suspect for many of you, when the magnitude of this tragedy became so apparent, that these buildings were coming down and these names you are listening to, that these numbers would be in the thousands.
