Youngest Victim of D.C. Sniper Speaks

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: He's the youngest victim of the D.C. area sniper attacks. Iran Brown just wants to get back to being a kid again. It hasn't been easy, but the 13-year-old kid says he's coming around. He spoke with reporters today at Washington's Children's Hospital.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

IRAN BROWN, SNIPER VICTIM: I feel great and am looking forward to picking up my life where I left off. That includes a lot of basketball and hanging out with my friends. I want to thank everybody for sending all the cards and gifts while I was in the hospital. Each one of them gave me strength to get better.

DR. MICHAEL EICHELBERGER, SURGEON: His injuries were extraordinarily severe. They were life-threatening. But he responded because of the youth of his system, I think. And because of the fact that he had the right things done right from the beginning.

BROWN: I feel good. I'm not in any pain right now. I feel normal. It's just that I can't lift heavy things or can't do some of the things I couldn't do before. But I'm just taking it day by day.

LISA BROWN, IRAN'S MOTHER: We are so tired. It hasn't been because we're trying to be secretive or anything like that. We're tired. This has been a very, very overwhelming and tiring experience. My son is 13. He just wants to get back to a normal life.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is a miracle, and God had his hand in this at all times. And I am just glad to be a Christian and that Jesus Christ died for me and that this young man knew that and is a Christian and God was with him the whole time.

PHILLIPS: Iran Brown was shot October 7 as he arrived for school in Bowie, Maryland. He was the eighth victim of the D.C. area rampage in which two men now face multiple charges.
