LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: I'm being told right now that Secretary of State Colin Powell is speaking at the state department about the shuttle. Let's listen in.
COLIN POWELL, U.S. SECY. OF STATE: On behalf of all of my colleagues at the State Department, expressed our deep sadness about what happened on Saturday with the Columbia.
I was at home watching it, just like most Americans, on Saturday morning, and relived every moment with every other American who watched the film footage. And all the while I would think about the families. And my heart goes out to the families of those who were lost.
And also pride that we have people, not only in our nation, but in other nations, who would take such chances in the cause of peace and the cause of furthering mankind's quest for knowledge. And as you have heard, we will continue to go forward with our programs.
And just to look at a picture of all those astronauts reminds you once again of the great diversity of this world and the great diversity of the United States.

HARRIS: Secretary Powell, as you see there -- I'm sorry to interrupt you, Randy -- we were able to catch him on his way into the state department to get those comments about the diversity of the crew on the shuttle Columbia. Secretary Powell, as you may know, is preparing this report that he's going to be giving to the Security Council. He's going to be meeting this morning with the leader from Bahrain, and he'll be talking to the media hopefully after that. We'll get some more from the State Department later on.
