JOHN KING, CNN SENIOR WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: CNN has been keeping track of military preparations at bases around the country. CNN's Brian Nelson now takes us to Ft. Bragg, where a pair of soldiers tied up some personal loose ends.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BRIAN NELSON, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): They came in search of a magistrate before 9:00 in the morning, two couples eager to get married before the orders came down to ship out.

Instead of a horse-drawn carriage ride in the splendor of Charleston, Amanda Kinsh (ph) and Specialist Michael Dudley (ph) were in a hurry. Amanda, feeling a sentiment known by every soldiers' woman in the history of war.

AMANDA KINSH, BRIDE: For fear that maybe he wouldn't come back.

NELSON: The glass wicket between them and the magistrate, their friend, Specialist John Cooley (ph), and his bride Kim, were the first to tie the not.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: John, you can kiss your beautiful wife, Kimberly.

NELSON: Amanda and Mike asked to be married on the plaza outside, beside a memorial to American soldiers who had fallen in battle.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Michael, with this ring I also thee wed.

KINSH: Michael, with this ring I also thee wed.

NELSON: There was no champagne, there were no toasts, and the honeymoon was short. Some kisses and a few embraces. Two young soldiers in the 82nd Airborne, within the hour returned to base to await their call to duty, and their young brides went back to work and to school, beginning the long wait for when it's all over.
