Kandahar Relatively Quiet as Night Falls

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now we want to get more -- or focus now more on the forces' resumption of air strikes on Kandahar. That's where CNN's Kamal Hyder is. He joins us via videophone with details.

Kamal, what's the latest activity?

KAMAL HYDER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, as night falls on Kandahar, it is quiet. There isn't much activity since sunset. There was intense activity over Kandahar since morning, lots of Allied aircraft flying low and, of course, this being a change from the past.

These people now feel the Allied forces -- and the people on the ground feel that because of no anti-aircraft fire that the allies now feel safer to fly low -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Kamal, residents -- how many people are staying within this area? Is the majority of the town leaving?

HYDER: Well, most of them, the women and the children, anyone who could afford it, anyone who had relatives outside Kandahar, they have left. The men have stayed behind. In fact, in some cases, I saw indications today of people moving entire households because they don't feel secure, nor do they feel that this war is going to come to an end anytime soon -- Kyra.
