Justin Leonard Leads PGA Championship

MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Larry Smith is here to tell us how sometimes the Tiger Woods A game, even the Tiger Woods A game is not enough.
CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: Hi, Larry. The weather looks good out there.

LARRY SMITH, CNN SPORTS CORRESPONDENT: It does look good, but you were talking about Tiger. You really thought the way he played, I mean, he played well. Just made one mistake on 18 in the third round. That was -- you're talking about his finishing his second round play.

Despite that, though, he's not in the lead. But as you mentioned the weather, it is much better for the final round of the 84th PGA Championship here just outside Minneapolis in the suburb of Chaska. Justin Leonard is your leader, not Tiger Woods. Leonard with a three- shot leader over Rich Beem.

Now, Justin Leonard, the 1997 British Open champ, came from five shots down to win his only career major so far that year (UNINTELLIGIBLE). So he is not conceding or not counting out Tiger Woods just yet. Woods is at four under par, five strokes behind Leonard, but he is not conceding defeat yet with one round to go.

TIGER WOODS, PRO GOLFER: Make puts. It's really no big secret. There's only a few guys ahead of me. And tomorrow I just need to go out there and play solid. I don't know -- I think the forecast is for it to be windy, just like today, maybe not quite as windy, but I still need to hit some good shots, because this golf course is playing so hard right now.

SMITH: Woods and Marc Calcavecchia and Leonard and Beem and Fred Funk, those guys tee off several hours from now, what is a very calm day right now. John Meheppay (ph) 23 years ago scored a PGA Championship record, when he came from seven shots back to win this, the final major of the calendar year. But Woods has to overcome his own personal history to do that. You see, he has never won a major when trailing after three rounds, 0 for 15. We'll see if he can break that personal drought today.
