Up to 2 Feet of Snow Forecast for Rockies This Weekend

RENAY SAN MIGUEL, CNN ANCHOR: Up to two feet of snow is forecast this weekend in parts of the Rockies. It is not unusual for the West Coast to get winter weather, but it typically doesn't come this early. Reporter Noel Cisneros with CNN affiliate KRON has more on the wintry weather.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
NOEL CISNEROS, KRON CORRESPONDENT (voice over): PG&E says the storm blew out 200 transformers and knocked over 150 power poles. The company is having to restring 140 miles of wire. From Eurika to Bakersfield. Sausilito's Woodward Valley neighborhood is typical. The rain and wind toppled an old oak tree which fell into wires which snapped the phone pole. The transformer blew, and the power went out to the whole hillside where Cannon (ph) and Wendy Richards (ph) lives.
CANNON RICHARDS (ph): But it's all out. And we have no water. Well, no hot water. No electricity. Can't use the computer. And we can't even turn the stove on because it's gas and it fires by electricity, you know, the little things.
WENDY RICHARDS (ph): We went out to breakfast, that's right. And then I went to the gym, had a swim and warmed up in the hot tub after my swim. And I had a hot shower. And that made all the difference in the world.
CISNEROS: Marin's power problems made for water problems, too. Because of the electricity problems, Marin Municipal Water District lost power to 13 of its 48 pumping stations. They brought in portable diesel generators, which are a temporary solution at best.
LIBBY PISCHEL, MARIN MUNICIPAL WATER: They're portable so we drive them from site to site to refill tanks as we need to. But it's very labor intensive and very slow. We don't want to get into an emergency situation, water wise.
CISNEROS: The water district is asking customers in Fairfax, Tiberon (ph) and Saucelito (ph) to conserve until the problem is fixed. So how soon will the problems get fixed? Well, this PG&E crew had been working nonstop for 30 hours, though sunshine gave the repair crews a chance to work faster with rain and wind and night returning, thousands of powerless should not be surprised if the power problems continue through the weekend.
