HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Tonight is one of the bigger nights for handing out awards in Hollywood and for fancy parties after the Golden Globes Awards are presented. CNN's Daryn Kagan gives us a look at getting the Golden Globes look.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

DARYN KAGAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (on camera): It's not that easy to get ready to walk down the red carpet at the Golden Globes, so we've brought you into this suite. This is a luxury-pampering suite. It's set up by L'Oreal Cosmetics and also "Vanity Fair" magazine. And it's filled with experts that help actors and actresses get just that look for Golden Globes.

Come over here. I want to talk makeup first. We have Katherine Dent, an actress from "The Shield." This is your first Golden Globes, isn't it?

KATHERINE DENT, "THE SHIELD": It is. And actually it's from "The Shield" and "Taken." We've had two nominations this year.

KAGAN: And so, you really felt it was important to really have a great look.

DENT: Yes, because it's fun. You know you sort of want to feel like you're part of the crowd. And everybody looks so incredible, so sure.

KAGAN: So you're going to be getting your makeup done. We're going to talk to one of the makeup experts for L'Oreal, Collier Strong. What is the Golden Globe look? What is the look we're going to see on the red carpet this year?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think we're going to see a wide range of looks varying from a natural sculpted face to a very elegant, dramatic smoky eye, the cat eye.

KAGAN: So it's not the thing you see at the local mall?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Depending what mall you go to.

KAGAN: That's true. Now, you're going to be doing some top actresses, including Kristin Davis...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

KAGAN: ... from "Sex and The City."

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm very excited to do Kristin.

KAGAN: What are you thinking for her?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think that I'm going to give her a very sexy look, something that we haven't seen on her before. And this is my first time doing her so I'm very excited.

KAGAN: A lot of women when we're just running to get out the door in the morning take maybe three to five minutes to throw makeup on. How much does it take to do a glamour makeup to go to something big like the Golden Globes?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You know what? I think it could be as simple as applying a lot of mascara and then a nice sculpted cheek and a strong lip and you're done.

KAGAN: How much time?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, that could be -- I mean 10 minutes, tops.

KAGAN: And tomorrow for a top star, what do you think you'll...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Well, you know, I'll splurge and spend 35, 40 minutes.

KAGAN: I bet she's going to look gorgeous. Thank you.

DENT: I had my person who gave me the story -- when I went to the Emmys this year, I did not have Phillip Bloch helping me out. And so when I walked in and the crowd started going crazy for Kristin, I said, "Katherine, just keep walking, keep walking." I didn't even stop. You know, she looked incredible.

KAGAN: Because when you went to the Emmys you took something out of your own closet and you decided it was time to step up.

DENT: That's right. You know I think the dress I had in my closet was pretty, but it's not -- the Golden Globes is a whole different experience.

KAGAN: We will look for you on the red carpet. Good luck. You will be beautiful.

So you heard Katherine talk about clothes. It's not just about makeup and about hair. We need a great dress, so we're go over and find stylist extraordinaire, Phillip Bloch. Funny seeing you here, hello. By the dresses and you're with Yolanda Ross (ph) from "Antwone Fisher." Hello.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hi.

KAGAN: And you're trying to find a fabulous look for the Golden Globes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, I am and Phillip's helping me.

KAGAN: What are the kinds of looks you think we'll see on the red carpet this year?

PHILLIP BLOCH, CELEBRITY STYLIST: Sexy. Very sexy but chic. My rule is that if Grace Kelly wouldn't have worn it, you're not wearing it. It has to be very Grace Kelly. I think sexy, but chic is always really important. It's just really about being sexy but being classy at the same time. And I think that's the most important. I think, you know, people don't really want to see vulgarity on the red carpet. I mean we all like to talk about it at the water cooler the next day, but we really don't. We want to see our stars looking like stars and being glamorous and that's what's important.

KAGAN: What about color?

BLOCH: Lots of color. I think there's going to be pinks and lavenders, maybe some light blue out there, a lot of champagne, beige, kind of gold. I think, you know, a lot of the Calvin, Oscar de la Renta colors for that. But Oscar also showed some beautiful pinks and lavenders. So I think we'll see a lot of that.

KAGAN: Anything that you're just kind of closing your eyes thinking oh, please, please, do not show up with that?

BLOCK: Oh, even things that I don't see on the runways people find. I just wonder how do actresses find them. They're like where did they find that dress? And then, other times I bring gorgeous dresses and you think this dress has been around for a year, why hasn't another stylist pulled this because it's so beautiful? I think a lot of corset tops too because the actresses want the tiny waist. They work hard. They want to look good so they want little extra -- a little extra in there and then like curvy at the hips and flowy, lots of flowy, soft fabrics, I think, are going to be important.

KAGAN: So you'll be doing your public service to make up as many stars as possible...

BLOCH: Yes, doing my public service to make America beautiful.

KAGAN: Well, thank you for doing that for that contribution. And Yolanda, we will look for you on red carpet.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Thanks. I'll be there.

KAGAN: Very exciting. And that's it from the world of beauty here along Sunset Boulevard. Back to you.
