FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: From the Great Plains to the nation's capital, heavy snow acting like a big fluffy blanket. Heavy snow is piling up high right here in Washington. Eight inches and counting and already it's something between one and two inches of snowfall per hour. In Kentucky, cars are slipping and sliding on dangerous ice. And in Philadelphia, they're talking about more than a foot of snow. Let's go to Amy Buckman from affiliate station WPVI. She's just west of the city in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania -- Amy.
AMY BUCKMAN, WPVI CORRESPONDENT: Well, we're here. We came out to this shopping center parking lot about 7:00 this morning figuring we would get some video and interviews with people preparing for the snowstorm, which we expected to hit around the noon. We came out of the store about 7:30 and this is what we saw. It had already started to snow and it hasn't let up since.

You can see some of the cars behind me in the parking lot. Here's a woman who's been inside buying some supplies for the snow and her car, while she was in the store, got well over an inch of snow on it. Before she drives out of here, she's going to have to wipe all of that off her windshield.

I'm actually standing in a parking space where there was a car until about 45 minutes ago. And if you can pan down and look, you can see that just in 45 minutes, we got about an inch of snow on the ground here. We are expecting anywhere from a foot up to 20 inches in areas north and west of Philadelphia. So everyone here is sort of buckling down, stocking up the house and expecting to be inside for at least the next day.

Live in Valley Kinwood, Pennsylvania for CNN, I'm Amy Buckman -- Fredricka.

WHITFIELD: All right, thanks a lot, Amy. Just an inch, but you got a whole lot more to go.
