JODI ROSS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Twenty-three-year-old Norah Jones is like the anti-Grammy nominee. The low-key singer/songwriter doesn't seem to care about the spotlight. Still, she could come away with a handful of awards on Sunday night.
NORAH JONES, NOMINATED FOR 5 GRAMMYS: It puts a lot of pressure on when people are saying you're great and you're going to be the next big thing. It's like, well, hold on, you know. Let me just do what I do and don't put that kind of pressure on me, because I don't want it.
ROSS: Well, it might be too late. Norah's been nominated in five categories, including best album, best song and best new artist.
Not a big deal maybe for music veterans, but Norah is a novice. She's got just one record, "Come Away with Me," which sold over thee million copies, and she makes her music on a jazz label.
JONES: The pop world is cool, but I never really thought of myself as being a part of it or wanting to be a part of it, because I'm on a label that's not really like that. They're not trying to dress me up and they're not -- they're not trying to do thinks like that.
ROSS: The daughter of legendary Indian musician Ravi Shankar, Norah grew up listening to Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday.
JONES: Stevie Wonder. I love Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash.
ROSS: All that eclectic music worked its magic, and today, her sound is near impossible to define.
JONES: Myself and the people I play with were all influenced by jazz. And I love jazz, country music, blues. We love a lot of different things, and I think it shows in the music.
ROSS: Come Grammy night, her musical success might reach a milestone. But if it doesn't...
JONES: It doesn't matter, you can always make money doing something. Just play the music you love and you'll stay happy.
ROSS: Spoken like a true songbird.
Jodi Ross, CNN Entertainment News, New York.
