Bush Expected to Take Part in Easter Services at Ft. Hood

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: President Bush is expected to take part in Easter church services at Ft. Hood. Want to check on the president's day from Crawford, Texas, our Suzanne Malveaux.
Good morning, Suzanne.
SUZANNE MALVEAUX, CNN WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: Well, good morning.
President Bush is going to be spending the Easter holiday with American soldiers. Later this morning he's going to be traveling to Ft. Hood, Texas, of where it is expected that he's going to be attending a church service and possibly be visiting with those two POWs who returned late last night. As is customary the president usually doesn't make an announcement ahead of time. He likes to do these things rather quietly.
The last time that the president visited Ft. Hood was in January, January 3. There was a totally different time back then, of course. That's when the president was trying to prepare a country for the possible war with Iraq.
As you know, Ft. Hood, a very important place. Some 42,000 troops are based there. Half of those troops are now inside of Iraq.
Now President Bush today in has weekly radio address really giving American soldiers, their families, the message that he recognizes and appreciates the sacrifices that they have made since then.

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: America mourns those who have been called home and we pray that their families can find God's comfort and God's grace. His purposes are not always clear to us, yet the season brings a promise that good can come out of evil, that hope can arise out of despair and that all our grief will some day turn to joy, a joy that can never be taken away.

MALVEAUX: Now the president later today will return to windy Crawford, Texas, to his ranch where he'll be spending time with his parents and close friends and other family members for the holiday.
And we have been told that Australia's foreign minister, Alexander Downer who's actually made a statement today saying that coalition forces are preparing to deliver a victory speech in the days to come -- Anderson.
COOPER: All right. Suzanne Malveaux, we'll be watching what President Bush does later today when he gets to Ft. Hood, Texas. Thanks very much, Suzanne.
