Peterson Family Copes With Grief

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: The discovery of Laci Peterson and her baby left her family and her in-laws to cope with their grief. As John Soderman of affiliate KUSI in San Diego reports, they are trying to stay out of the spotlight right now.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JOHN SODERMAN, KUSI CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): At the Claremont home of Scott Peterson's brother, KUSI's Lenay Lewis obtained reaction to the news of Laci and unborn infant's death, as well as Peterson's risk.

LENAY LEWIS, KUSI CORRESPONDENT: Hi, I'm sorry to bother you, but we're hoping that with the latest news that's come out, we could get you get you guys to make just a brief statement.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, ma'am.

LEWIS: Why not? The public wants to hear from you guys. And we want to give you the opportunity.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, not tonight. It's family time. And we're having quiet time And we're praying. And...

LEWIS: Your reaction -- can you give us your reaction.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm sad and heartbroken.

LEWIS: You're sad and heartbroken? OK, thank you.

SODERMAN: Meantime, at the home of Scott Peterson's parents, there is no reaction, just the same note that's been up for quite a while.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I know they must be under a lot of pressure. I just would hate to be in their position.

SODERMAN: But as the silence grows from inside, a most understandably distraught Peterson household. Outside, the media presence grows. And then there are even those who show up to shoot their own home video.

I saw you took your camera and walked up to the front door. What were you doing there?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I was videotaping the little note that they had on front of the door.
